Discontinued The Grasshopper

After finally thinking about it, I didn't really like taking my Hopper out into the world with me anymore, since it had stopped working randomly a few times and then came back a few hours later a few times. Moral of the story was that i didn't trust the device anymore, and even at home it would sometimes let me down.

I started using my Dynavaps more and more, and now they are pretty much my daily drivers. I sold off my hoppers and the headache that dealing with HL can be. I had spent over 500 bucks on different hoppers and accessories to end up with 1 working one that sometimes let me down. I was just done. The vapcaps can't break and of course I have my mighty any time I really need electrical vaping.

I also bought a portable Induction Heater and a desktop one after selling off the Hoppers. So for the most part I'm not even using butane anymore. overall I am much happier and even saving more bud than before. Since I was never sure if the Hopper was working on the first try or not or even if it would work at all once I had loaded it up. Then the emails stopped coming from HL and I pretty much decided that they weren't going to catch back up to things like I hoped. I don't know what is going on with that company but they made some really bad choices and I hate to see it. The Hopper is an amazing device but with all the things I was dealing with, it was becoming more of a headache than a relaxing thing. Meanwhile my vapcaps were calming and soothing since I didn't have to worry about them stopping working.

Anyways, sorry to say, that after everything I went through I finally had to jump off the bandwagon. :(

This thread is like reading old comics in the newspaper.
It is indeed depressing. Not much good/positive news herein which I empathize with as my Ti is in RMA purgatory - and also why I again have been reading posts again for the last few months after not reading for quite some time. "The more things change the more they stay the same."

Agreed. For quite some time my Ti was my only/daily vape. It worked well at the beginning but then performance degraded however I still used it as such for quite some time. Then it wouldn't turn on at all, which was the death knell and into RMA it went in September. At the time I didn't have a good backup but coincidentally and serendipitously on the day it offically died and a week before a trip to SF (ahem!), I purchased a backup which is now my primary and haven't had any issues with that one (a Fury clone). However I still want a good backup for that, just in case but I don't foresee any issues with that like we've seen with the Hopper.

But yes, even when the Hopper worked albeit not optimally, I always had reservations about bringing it outside. And I'm not throwing any more money at HL either despite I contemplated buying a new body before it died but lifetime warranty is there and it's a moot point now, anyway.:peace:

But you haven’t needed to actually go thru the warranty process yet, right? Just want to hear someone say they got their RMA done promptly from them and I’ll order one right now.

Like I said shipping is the only wait... US to CAN and back. Sachin said once he had it it would go to his guy in Toronto and he would fix it within a few days and then the shipping back to US. No I didn't have to ship it to him .. still working. Got me be back from HL (my ti RMA) and haven't used the SS from theherbcafe in a few months. My back up. I put it on the exchange and no one wanted it so it will be there WHEN my ti breaks down. Made it 7 months with my first ti before it had cop lights. Have owned 3 ti and 2 SS and sold/gave away the others. Just have the ti and SS now..

Yeah it's a fickle vape but it's the best out there in terms of heat up and extraction.. I'm sure that as long as GH are being made I'll have one by my side. Stinks they aren't more Hardy being made of metal

For sure no serious behavior. A bad CS is one thing but treating a big retailer in such a way? In addition, VDNM is/was (?) doing all the RMAs for GH bought at them for years w/o any compensation. Meanwhile they have hundreds of damaged GH in stock.

Their 5-12 days time span that THEY gave me has already gone to a month.. Really weird... they agreed to send me the replacement body and now they just disappeared.. Not that we're not used to that.. but what really is awkward is the fact that I didn't really push them or ask them to hurry or sth similar.. It's their estimation that even if they'd tell me sth longer I wouldn't have said anything..
They don't care that they are not reliable anymore.. This could have been avoided without any customer hassle but they just don't give a damn... they're just throwing days like they're peanuts without any sense of reason..I asked for an update with the replacement and they haven't replied in almost 4-5 days now... really disappointing stuff... :(

Almost there...
Just popping in for a quick visit!
I have had my GH since Feb 2017 and it has not once been in for anything, it has never been sent for any repairs or upgrades and still works perfectly.

Just wanted to share my manitenance routine that works for me!
When the performance strats to drop, I notice that it starts to flash red sooner than it usually does after turning blue. Usually I can get a good 15 swcond pull before it turns red but when it needs a clean it is about 5 seconds and the vapor output is WAY less. This signifies a cleaning is required for my GH.

Ensure you have freshly charged batteries!!
Clean out the chamber with a q-tip and the screw on end.
Load up a battery and set to 5, there is NO herb in the vape.
Click ON and wait for blue and pull as hard as you can for as long as it stays BLUE. Repeat a few times to really warm the oven up.
After about 3 heat and pulls, I remove the front end and wipe out the chamber again.
Now I will do about 2 to 3 more heat cycles on 5 and pull as hard as I can with the front end off.
After each of these cycles, I will also remove the battery and blow as hard as I can into the backend.
I usually go through 2 batteries to do this type of cleaning.

Load up a fresh battery, load up some herb, set to 5 and watch the vapor build and the timer reset to longer pulls!
This has been all that I have done to maintain my GH, except ISO the front end.
Still works like day one after a good cleaning!

I would just add one essential step to this regimen. It's critically important, otherwise the rest will not work: Be exceedingly lucky. I mean, like charmed - like, you should be buying lottery tickets regularly. If you add this one step, you are sure to have a properly working Grasshopper indefinitely. Until you don't.

Seriously, thank you for the tips, and good luck. And Happy New Year!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a working hopper for years. It's been a while since I've visited FC. The hopper cured my VAS. It's perfect for my use habits.

I actually signed back in to ask if anyone has used the hopper with either the S&b or Fury 2 dosing caps? Based on the measurements it looks like it might not (or just) fit. Maybe a bit of a tight fit, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that an S&b cap might fit?

Unfortunately no. Best I've come across for on the go easy loading is the grasshopper feeder on eBay from Israel. Just push the hopper into the feeder and give it a shake and it's full. The feeder holds around 2gs

This is reassuring. I’m expecting it to be the vape to end all others.

The vapcap is nice and all but not as stealthy. Although I use it in my car at work and even bathrooms almost everyday without fail.

The one thing I will miss when I’m using the grasshopper will be the dugout with my vapcap. Makes having reserves and reloading so simple and quick.

It seems to be a roll of the dice. Reliability is the device's Achilles heel. If you read through anything related to the hopper, you'll see time and time again something along the lines of "when it works its the best vape" . I got lucky, I hope you do too.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve told my lady to reassure her. As she’s the one who bought it and is nervous considering how much it is.

And testability and apparently repairability. Their design clearly does not provide for accurate and precise fault diagnosis and they can't seem to make subassemblies (e.g. body and back end) with sufficiently close tolerances to support interchangability.

Mine worked like a champ for 18 months and then went belly up. I now have two Ti GH's that both run cold to the point I won't waste my flower in them and I haven't felt like doing the endless dance with Hopper Labs again....yet.

I purchased a Ti in the summer of 2017. It played mostly second fiddle to vapcaps for about a year before it assumed the daily driver role. I recently purchased a second Ti , since the first one started doing the dreaded "straight to blue" light show, and no amount of tips and tricks would restore functionality.

I really enjoy single-ripping a loosely packed chamber through a cold water piece. There isn't another vape I'm aware of that can hit like the hopper.

I agree. It's just outrageously good when things are functional. I hope they do eventually work out all the problems, buI I've been having a really good time with my 420 HT GH. 220 days of service so far, sharing this thing with family over for Christmas has been, I think, the best aspect of the device for me so far. It's a very approachable little pen, and the high it gives is amazing.
People with low tolerance, for example 8 years off, are the best to toke hoppers with because it's amazing to see the potential effects. The flavour, the potency, the onset, all are just perfect and very appreciable.

I'll admit the abuse I've put various hoppers through has been obviously catastrophic. With my current unit I have taken to a different approach to it's utility.

Less is more with these things, and that's how you get years out of them.
The Grasshopper is able to consistently get me to where I want to be - way up there.

Things have a way of being. It's sad to watch the Grasshopper struggle. The proper end product is truly something else.

The vapes manufacturing/production might not be the best, but the best manufactured vape produces amazing vapour.

I guess you could say it's a bit of a caterpillar struggling to build its coocoon, it's a pretty relatable position and I hope they pull through

That's what I'm afraid of. After a year or so of being content, I'm starting to look for an alternative. I guess backup is the more appropriate word here. The fury 2 looks promising but no user replaceable battery. Unfortunately I don't know that there is another on demand milk machine with a tiny form factor and user replaceable battery on the market today. Maybe I'll just get another hopper. Although I can't help feeling that I would end up needing a backup for the backup.....

You could look also at Xmax Fog. It has a replaceable battery and seems to work fine. Has some draw resistance.
During the summer I replaced the Gh with a Fury 2 as a daily driver. Very happy with it. Not the same performance as GH but similar. Imho it's more practical having around a power bank to recharge Fury 2 and the phone/ear pods than single use GH batteries.

The Sticky Brick can hit even harder to my experience. Down parts are a) stirring is obligatory b) this friggin torch is the most unchilling and drama packed way to run a vaporizer. Otoh it's the most reliable device I can imagine.

I have both (well, not a Fury2 but a Fenix Mini, which is the Fury1) and must say, I like them better overall* than the Hopper, especially since both are really packing a nice punch and appear to be top reliable.

*That being said, "overall" is a rational approach towards it, and we all know this vaping and getting high thing is beyond that. There the Hopper is still the winner, but it turns even more into the mechanic equivalent to that coke fiend slut chick that keeps calling you for the best sexy time you ever had. Except it will not file a paternity suit or murder you in your sleep.
