@NewVape710 Very interesting, I always like when you post technical drawings! For me, the proposed NewNut isn’t really necessary and would restrict the user to 5mm balls only. What about the user with bigger balls? Or those trying to cram in as many tiny balls as they possibly can? While it might not be my choice, I do believe that they’re entitled to their own lifestyle choices.

BOTTOM LINE: Doesn’t matter if it’s necessary. If you make it and simply offer it as an add-on part, a lot of people will buy it. Just to try it and have the option available whenever they feel like a bit of 5mm balling. I also like the idea of a scraping/cleaning ledge but I’m not sure if it’s enough benefit to warrant a NewNut.

What I am sure of is that if you design one that meets your own high NV standards, you will sell them all day long and half the night. People love getting the accessories and add-ons, I know I do. Dammit, I think I just sold myself on the NewNut!

A special dish retainer nut that will retain the 5mm spinning balls. Please understand that this photo is for discussion only. Currently there are no plans to modify or create this part.

?? From the drawing, it looks like you need to remove the nut the take out the balls?

Can anything similar be done (instead) on the outer wall as centripetal forces has the spinning balls hugging the outer wall?
Would a smaller ridge on the outer wall be more efficient?

Hey---I don't even own NV (yet) so just food for thought...

@NewVape710 - the flange on the dish nut would be big enough to keep the 5mm balls in even if held upside down and shaken correct? So the lip on the outside wouldnt be necessary because the gap between the flange and the dish wouldnt be 5mm.

I would be interested if that is the case for sure. The freedom of being able to let a guest (or my stoned self) grab the vrod head for a flower hit with balls in the dish and not worry about going carpet surfing for them would be great as long as it didnt make it difficult to get the dabber in there!

Do you all feel this is necessary? Should it be a new nut? The overhang will slightly impede the open dish area. The overhang could act as an edge to scrape the dabber clean. Wrench Flats would most likely be needed.

NewVape will have a booth on saturday at the Miami Art Basel 710dabday event. If your in the area please stop by and say hello.

Our new payment policy "wire transfer over $500" seems to be working well. I really appreciate your understanding and supporting this change. This will allow us to spend more time on developing new products.

You beat me to it Edwyn...I had a post all typed up and was about to post it. I apologize for taking so long, but I was stuck at the doctor all day yesterday. I couldn't have put it as eloquent as you did anyhow. :)

What Edwyn neglected to say is in his reply he told me how much he loves FC and all of the members in here. I think the feeling is mutual Edwyn!

Anyone have tips for keeping the SiC dish *and* quartz balls clean? A lot of people suggest q-tips after every dab for the dish alone, but I don’t know if/how that would work with the balls in it...

@NewVape710 I just got the VRod and some 5mm quartz balls, and I’d pick up a nut that held them in for sure!

I haven’t dropped my balls yet, and I’m doing my best to avoid it, but if I let someone else touch it I see a much greater chance of ball flinging and subsequent problems.

If you decide to try making some of these nuts, even if they don’t make it to full production I’m interested in one!

That would be nice, but it wouldn’t be easy to do that and keep it secure with the current design. It couldn’t be part of the VRod head since the SiC or quartz dish has to get in and out, plus the carb cap currently seals to the dish which wouldn’t be possible anymore either. Not sure if that would be a bad thing or not though, or if all of the dishes have the same height.

If it was okay to seal to that lip instead of the dish, the way I could see it working is making the side of the VRod a little taller and threaded at the rim with the ball guard being a thin ring with threads under it, something like a camera lens filter.

Since we’re dealing with vaporized concentrates filling that chamber though, we might end up getting those threads stuck with reclaim...it’d probably have to be warmed up for removal. It may just be too delicate and difficult to deal with...

Having just got the current VRod and some quartz balls, picking up a new nut is more appealing as an immediate solution for me and other existing users, but an outer rim may be worth thinking about for future versions!

All my days in a daze...
I am very much looking forward to getting my FP SH soon and running it in a side-by-side comparo with my beloved Sub Apollo. My Sub is SS so right away I know the FP will have a sizable taste advantage, but I'm personally more concerned with impact so that will be where the rubber meets the road: fast draw, high(er) temp, single (well 1.5) hit extractions.

In the meantime I must say NV's customer service, via Lori, is absolutely phenomenal and was a great help to me.

In terms of companies behind the vapes, the FP and Sub, there is NO comparison... lolol... NewVape destroys Enrico in every way... development, interaction with and quick adjustments to customer requests, customer service, EVERYTHING. ;)

Any thoughts on using very dry material vs material thats been sitting with a moisture pack? Pros and cons.
My stash is a bit dry now, Ive gone down to 580f with fine grind. Thinking of using a boveda pack.

@graydeh1 with the latest Black Friday sale I did pick up some CVaults and Boveda packs. I was surprised that Boveda's are not sealed somehow they were in the CVaults (including the extras I ordered). I keep whole bud in the CVaults with Boveda packs and then have several @JyARz Satchmos for ground herbs ready to go (No Boveda packs). Can't imagine being in a legal state where this inventory of CVaults and @JyARz would need to be significantly larger as this is the first time I have all my herbs stored properly. AT least this is a far cry from where I kept them in the past, so happy to no longer have any plastic involved.

My initial perception on some freshly ground is it is a bit smoother, but also has a couple more draws in it. The extraction is not as quick. Kind of like putting new wood in a my wood stove, the fire languishes a bit as it is trying to burn off moisture in the wood.

@graydeh1 - I've been using boveda and kilner style jars for the better part of a year now, the low RH of Colorado really dries out the bud in the shops and when I would grind it, it would basically turn into a powder. Decided to grab some of the little packs, I typically only have 7-14g of a single strain in a jar at one time and usually 15-20 different jars in my drawer, all with a 4g 58% boveda pack either taped to the underside of the lid or just dropped in amongst the nugs. Some have been in there for 5 or 6 months and they are basically the same as when I put them there. I love those things.

I grind a full grinders worth at a time usually and it sits in the grinder throughout the day drying out as I use it anyways so by the end of the day there probably isnt much of a difference when vaping from when I pick it up but at the beginning as @YaMon said it's a little smoother IMO and may take a tiny bit more heat/time to get extracted but it's really not much IME, definitely doesnt add to the number of draws I take. 660 and a long slow draw and I can kill 85% of a 3 heaping scoop bowl (using the NV tool) topped with 1/3 scoop kief. Again maybe the 5-25% RH has something to do with that for me too though. Gas furnace is also really drying out my apartment. Will report back if this changes once I get a humidifier in the near future.

BTW I bought my boveda on amazon directly from Boveda, and they came vacuum sealed with a resealable zipper after you crack the seal. I put the extras in a jar together. I think I got 2 packs of 12 or 15 4g 58%. According to them good for up to 1/2 oz of flower. Some people recommend the 62 but really you could use whatever % your heart desires, they come in a really wide range. I heard you can even rehydrate them yourself but I havent had to yet even over like 5 months.

Thanks for that, will order that way in the future. Definitely thinking about putting Boveda packs in my @JyARz, but they're closed most of the time. Can't imagine not having a humidifier in Colorado. 1st thing I set up when I get to a place to stay out there!

Yeah for a while my nose got cracked on the inside because it was used to the east coast humidity but now that I've been here 6 years it's gotten used to it. Still uncomfortable though, definitely gonna get one soon now that I have satisfied some VAS twinges between the vrod, sticky brick junior and 59$ preorder of the new rbt splinter that I'll receive in a couple months!

Noob question, does anybody notice that the vrod head doesn't sit perfectly level on the bowl? (Without holding it)

So far this thing is wicked, love it!

Is it the weight of the handle and cord that makes it look that way?

Yup, this happens on my new showerhead as well. Lifting the handle makes it flush with the grooves of my shovelhead bowl, otherwise it "leans" towards the cord. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to have an affect on performance so I'm not too worried!

Also I'd like to add, my coil cover in just two days has turned a very nice blue, the raised disk where the intake holes are is all purple, and the entire dish is a ridiculously shiny gold.. Pretty stuff, it can stop changing now if it likes and I'd be happy!

It’s normal. It’s partly the weight of the handle and cord, partly that the head isn’t as tight as possible on the bowl. There’s not a lot of extra room, but there has to be a little or the head would get stuck on the bowl all the time.

Hey guys, I picked up a new adjustabowl with a 14mm female to replace my old one piece bowl during Black Friday. I’ve noticed my new bowl isn’t air tight when assembled and that daylight can be seen between the walls of the bowl and stem piece. I was hoping it would gunk up and seal after use, however I’ve ran over a half ounce through it already and haven’t seen any improvement with the leak. Is this normal, any thoughts on how to seal it up?

Are you not getting an efficient draw? A small gap shouldn't make that big a difference since the actual vapor path through the bowl has a much larger volume.

These bowls can’t have a perfect seal since they’re 2 pieces of metal that both have to allow for assembly, disassembly, adjustment to your glass, and thermal expansion if you heat them up, but there should be very little space there.

If you think yours has too much space you might want to take a picture or video showing it and post here or send it to NewVape to get a second opinion on it, but if it doesn’t seem to be affecting performance it’s probably not worth worrying about.

Oh, and if you haven’t already done it, after hand-tightening the handle you should use a paper clip or mini screwdriver or something in the hole in the handle to lightly tighten it a little more. Just enough to stay secure in the glass joint. That should also remove a little more of the space.

There’s always the chance that the hole is just slightly larger than it was supposed to be. These pieces are machined to a very tight tolerance, but mistakes can happen.

I thought part of the advantage of the adjustabowl was you could adjust it so it rests on your glass joint - making it more air tight.

I also dont do the paper clip thing as I like to loosen it and pop the bowl off the post for easy dumping after the post has been seated in the glass joint due to heat expansion. Honestly when I bought one I thought that was another part of the advantage of making the bowls 2 pieces - so it didnt matter if the post got stuck  guess I just made that up myself though after seeing the NV vids on how to use them.

Anyone else use it this way?

No, I think you’re right and that was part of the intended design. If your glass is flat and even then the bottom of the bowl should sit tightly on it and keep it pretty air-tight, but we have seen some people with glass that doesn’t quite seal, and at that point whatever gap is around the post comes into play.

Thanks for pointing that out though, I wasn’t thinking about it!

How much flower does everyone Load in the flowerpot? I've found filling the bowl 3/4 full gives me the most vapour, with the carb cap on

I usually do anywhere from a thin layer barely covering the screen up to maybe about half. I could do more, but I don’t really need to! :freak:

I use the carb cap with just flower occasionally, but I usually leave it off for that.

Really? When I don't use the carb cap it seems like there is not a whole lot of vapour. I'll try again with a tiny amount of flower (w & w/o carb cap) and see how it compares
