Is dabbing worth it?

Concentrates are essential for on the go stealth toking.
If I had unlimited funds I might like to go all concentrates but I find flower a fuller spectrum experience. You do have to put up with some end of the bowl taste that is not present with dabs (done correctly). If you are big on flavor then dabs are the way to go.
I''m not into bangers etc. because I honestly don't want hits that big. I would rather chip away at a glob in a log vape.
You can explode your tolerance if you start doing big dabs on the reg as it is super easy to intake a huge amount.
I got a good deal on live resin so now I am hitting that all the because it is so convenient and mess free in a log. And for sure worth it in my wax pen.
You get what you pay for mostly but the quality is coming up as the market matures. But mostly it is buyer beware.

I'm sitting on this precipice now myself and am interested in all the feedback here. I'm looking to add a desktop vape and am strongly considering one with a titanium quartz e-nail for a great dab set-up as well as the ability to vape flower; I'm planning for some quality concentrate usability with this combo rig. I did pick up some Super Lemon Haze live resin recently
bowtie.gif
.

I get the higher dosing concerns with dabbing in a quality e-nail rig, but an e-nail rig can be used very well and very easily to microdose. The nail/banger set-up can be used for more than only big hits from what I've read and seen. An e-nail/e-banger gives excellent precision and they can be easily dialed in to preference; it's also the most efficient method to intake it (the most complete vaporization and least amount of waste).

Any thoughts or feedback? Thx

Tell me about doing dabs in the log vape. I've been reading up on the e-nano and everything I've read says it doesn't do concentrates very well. Many also resort to using cotton, etc. And the hardware gets sludgy and dirty quickly since it doesn't totally vaporize all the product. What do you do and how do you find it?

Thx

I like the enano for concentrates a lot. No mess at all and less clean up than using it for flower. You put a small glob on cotton and it melts into the cotton as you vape it. When you stop getting vapor (you stir it as you go along to make sure the melt has been even) and then you just toss the cotton. No cleaning the dab surface like nails and buckets.
If you like huge hits the enano works OK. If you like small hits - like I do - the nano and cotton is much better than other methods. You can go at the exact pace you want. Not like with a nail etc. where if you don't breathe in the whole hit then it is wasted.
Puffitup has an organic cotton and Dynavap sells degummed hemp fiber and either can be used for dabs. Just get a log vape with a gong to use in a bubbler and you are ready to go. Clean up could not be easier.

Sounds like you are looking at a Flower Pot and while I haven't used it I would get one without reservation. But honestly I like a log better and would want one first. Logs do not get dangerously hot and won't start a fire if knocked over. I would be far more wary with an enail or Flowerpot.

Actually I'm interested in the ditanium desktop vape. The flowerpot is too expensive and I also worry about the safety and extreme-heat hazard of that vape design. I mentioned in the ditanium thread here that I recently read a post where a guy burned his hand badly on a Flowerpot setup :(. I worry I'd do the same thing at some point. The ditanium setup is more safe with the wood shield and in how it's used. It has the grade two titanium quartz e-nail for great concentrate use and does great convection flower vaporization as well. Get some micro dabbers and you can take small hits with this setup.

I've been looking at the e-nano ti as a more basic but still very high quality and well designed option. It vapes flower by convection perfectly for a desktop vape but it's not an optimal concentrate/dab design. What that means is different to different people and there's no single best option, everything has its strengths and weaknesses. Thx. Great feedback and much appreciated.

I wanted to chime in here. I actually have to dab, and can no longer even vaporize flower. There are tons of contaminants and irritants even in flower vapor. I have asthmatic reactions to both, but even .3 of flower locks me up and I require Ventolin. With clean concentrates (not all are clean) I can dab a .2 and recover within ten minutes. Because I medicate for many reasons, I am a high dosage rather than high tolerance patient. I medicate heavily, to the point of near sedation, during moments of extreme type 1 bipolar events. I couldn't even do that with flower, it would't be possible.

With these things stated, I think that depending on your issues, the question isn't if it is worth it. It is the only option for some, and the best option for many.

I am a medical cannabis user. I am allocated 70 grams a month (total regardless if it is THC or CBD) I make green dragon tinctures for most of my material, and I vape.

If I were to take my 70 grams how much live resin or other concentrates would I be left with and how would that translate into pain relief?

Can you add some coconut oil to live resin and make capsules?

You could press it into rosin if you know someone with a press atleast,
You should be getting around 20% resin yield from "good weed", so that would be 14 grams of oil from ur 70 grams.

I too feel the oil is better for pain,

@sickmanfraud I’ve heard a lot of praise for rosin lately too, although I haven’t picked any up myself yet. If you do want to get more into concentrates that seems to be the best way to go, especially for home concentrate makers.

There are some great (and expensive) presses out there, but if you want to try it out with a small investment and you can’t source rosin directly, Slug .33 or even a hair straightener can get the job done, but you won’t get as much out of your flower as you would with a more serious high pressure rosin press.

You can still vaporize or otherwise use the smashed flower though, so it’s not necessarily a waste if you can’t get full extraction. I think edibles may be the way to go there though.

Oh, and if you do Instagram stuff NewVape is giving away a nice one they make right now!

The FlowerPot is a great option and I don’t find it nearly as scary to be around as I expected* so I wouldn’t discount it based on that unless you have a lot of accidents and you know you can’t trust yourself with it, but the Ditanium’s a very similar concept and I trust @stickstones ’s judgement on vaporizers so I’m sure it’s also a good alternative at an attractive price!

There are some things I like better about its design, and more things I like better about the FP’s design, but even if you picked up a Ditanium and considered moving to a FlowerPot someday (assuming you also saw advantages in the FP’s design), you should be in good shape the whole way. :)

* We have seen a few significant burn reports in the FP thread, but I’ve had it for more than a year now with no burns or other problems and most users are fine with it.

It’s not quite the same, but think about it like being around a candle. If you feel like you wouldn’t be safe, it’s not your best option. If you think you’d be safe working with a candle though, you should be okay with the FlowerPot or Ditanium. :)

You might want to look at edibles or cannacaps. You can can make your own from concentrates. That way you would only need to vape for a touch up dose.

I have asthma as well, and when it's bothering me, I like concentrates better too, but when it's real bad I stick to cannacaps.

Thank you for the reply. I think that the safest way to make a concentrate would be with a press/hair dryer.

Butane is out 100% and I would have to find an anchor point on the porch for a vise and Slug .33.

There are a couple of decent(?) less extravagant plug-in devices one is called the ju1ce box and another is called a canna-Clamp. For me the problem is that shipping would be a fortune and VAT is an additional 18%.

I was hoping to get a son of mine to bring one of these items to a family wedding which got canceled. Asking anyone who is not family to bring something that heavy will never work.

Probably worth the few dollars to find a hair straightener on Aliexpress and test the concept.

@VaporWare, In the Flowerpot vs Supreme thread, you said that too large a dose makes you anxious. According to what I read and from personal experience, but I suggest vaping some CBD if you get anxious.

Hah...thanks, I’ve actually already started putting extra CBD on top of everything the last couple of days and it seems to be helping a lot in avoiding that (or large bowls extracted slowly are easier for me to handle than tiny ones extracted very quickly - that’s the other simultaneous change I made). Guess I probably need to pick up some more vaporizable CBD! :)

Good luck with the rosin. If mixing CBD with the other concentrates I have helps enough, I’m sure I’ll pick up some rosin to try soon too.

If you go with a hair straightener, just expect not to have the greatest yields or a sturdy long-lasting press. It sounds like it should do well enough to see if you want to continue down that road though. :)

So you'd recommend a rig over a pen?

I would. First off, I find that the rig set-up is the best way to roll in terms of economy of the material (I use a lot less and get a lot more out of a dab than sipping on a pen) and flavour. I just can't deal with the on-coil taste of concentrates, personally. I don't mind the prefilled distillate carts for the purposes of stealth consumption, but all-in-all, I just use concentrates at home due to the centrality that a rig took in my ritual. I have multiple pens and all but one of them have been given away, and that one collects dust.

LOL, I take almost a gram of RSO a day :D The concentrates are for break out anxiety and manic episodes. I have found that for my conditions, I must use a full spectrum approach and think of the product as medication and not in any way recreational. !00 mg THC oral here, 150 mg THC through vapor consumption, etc....., through out the day, and then I compile everything in excel along with notes. Analysis of this over time is how I am creating my program.

I've switched to concentrates a few times hoping to switch over but I always go back to flower. I like dabbing because it is stealthier and smells a lot less. What I don't like about dabbing is that it shoots my tolerance through the roof, I end up dabbing all the time, and I prefer the high from flower rather than shatter. I find the shatter high has more anxiety and is more of a head high. I really wanted concentrates to work well for me but it wasn't worth it.

I like dipping my high thc concentrates in cbd isolate, which helps me have a relaxed full body high (no anxiety). It gives a feeling that is hard to replicate with flower only.

But I also like the medication from flowers too. Just proves the versatility of this plant.

Sorry, I may have missed a few older posts here after messing with my thread notification settings. I ended up getting a VapeXhale EVO as it suits my needs and at this point was the best option imo as my first desktop and primary vape. Thx for the feedback. I like the FP a lot but it's no candle imo (:2c:). I currently have 8 candles going in my TV room and a wood fire going in the fireplace so I'm pretty comfortable with that stuff. If I burn myself with a candle (or the fireplace), and it happens with a lot of use, it's a minor injury of small size. OTOH, with the FP being a high heat source, burns can be second or third degree as well as larger in size; such a burn may need a hospital visit (or visits).

Absent minded actions can happen when medicated :\. I'm reminded of this recent video only a few days old now. Sorry, I can't embed it here to auto start at 3:39; people will have to manually select the 3:39 time stamp and start watching at that point.
__________________________________________________________________________

I picked up Armageddon and Nuken concentrates in addition to my earlier Super Lemon Haze live resin to try dabbing soon hopefully

. I'm looking forward to trying dabbing but I don't have a water piece yet for the EVO (backorder). What do members think about doing a dab from a vape like the EVO without water (using a dry mouthpiece)? It would be a low temp dab.

Thx for any input! Cheers

The candle flame is twice as hot as a Flowerpot would ever get.

True, but the temperature is only one of a number of considerations with a burn hazard. A FP has a similar thermal energy to a candle flame, or more. And people don't grab a candle flame (at least I don't), probably because a candle flame is an obvious heat source when active. Furthermore, the size of the burn hazard is an important characteristic; a candle flame is a very small heat/burn source compared to a heated nail/banger/coil/head which will cause a large hand burn if inadvertently grabbed.

For me Dabbing was not worth it. I enjoy it a lot. However the cost for me was getting a little too excessive. My tolerance went through the roof as well. Plus I believe now that you really do need an e-nail, and a high end insert to experience the absolute best flavor. I tried to get by with three different brands of concentrate pens, and there was always harshness or something off about the taste. If I had more disposable income I’d partake for sure. IMO Flower is just way cheaper, and with the right vape you can achieve some really great flavor. The flavor is not as “concentrated” as a good dab hit. However I’d compare flower to tasting a moderately sugared drink. It’s plenty refreshing, and tastes great. Then you start drinking soda.

I stopped all cannabis for a good 6 months just because I started doing other things and my “weed” hobby took a back seat. Since I’ve started up my weed hobby again I have left the dab rig boxed up. It comes out once and a while when my wife and I want to get Jr. High stoned. Lately though I’ve been more than satisfied with my stealthy portable vape and some great flower. Super quick, and easy. Way less equipment, the pros go on and on for me.

Rarely consider vaping flower. Enjoy both growing and extracting. Stable shatter can be easily divided and measured. If you try it, start with a small dose ~5mg.

Tolerance isn't so bad, IMO. You might benefit from higher dose effects.

Also rarely consider using SiC HALO D-nail. Currently using the AVS Molecule exclusively, produced by an e-cig specialty wire supplier. Before that, it was DIY e-cig coils. An inexpensive alternative with top-notch flavor and effects.

dabs isnt really the crack of cannabis,
you just need to realize it gets u so much higher, so ofc your tolerance will rise accordingly,
and if you dont realize that and let your tolerance go nuts, and just keep on smoking the oil, sure,

can be avoided if you are aware of these things and use your brain / have a small amount of self disciplin, :D
