Distillates

Looking through the concentrates section, I was surprised to see there was no dedicated thread for distillates, so I've decided to start one. I learned about distillates recently and find them intriguing. The most characteristic feature (and the one that fascinated me most) was that they have ZERO odor when vaped. There's not a whole lot of flavor either but that's never been a big deal for me in consuming cannabis products. I'm just in love with the idea of how completely discreet this stuff is.

Generally speaking, I'm more of a flower kind of guy, but I use distillate in my Rubi when I'm on the go, or want to be super discreet. I find oils, including distillate, to be a companion rather than a replacement for flower...kind of raising the effects of the flower to a higher level, if you know what I mean.

What do other people think of distillates?

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
At first, distillates were the only source of concentrates I had. Once other types, such as waxes and rosin, became available I left them to experience other textures and flavors. In fact, the lack of flavor in CO2 distillates did not make them very enjoyable beyond the good high they would provide (and at their high THC counts, they can pack quite a punch).

But now I'm seeing the options to artificially add back flavor to distillates in the way of isolated terpene and cbd solutions that you can buy online. Another recent post here mentioned this site https://vapeurterp.com/ which looks promising for adding both flavor and/or more fluidity for loading in carts. I see more dispensaries offering "flavored" distillate cartridges and I now see how they must be making them. I just worry about the non-glycol , "plant derived" compounds they are using, which they won't say what they are.

I'm not a giant fan of distillates, whole plant extracts are vastly superior to me (entourage effect!!!).

'reconstituted' cannabis, fuzzy... not necessarily from cannabis terpenes, they aren't adding back in other cannabinoids (CBD, CBDa, THCa, THCv, CBN, CBG, CBC as a starting place) either.

Terpenes mean flavor and much much more.

Isolates are fine for some things like CBD, but even with that I prefer getting CBDa along with it, as well as other compounds that help it's action biologically/physiologically.

for crohn's and other bowel diseases, the terpene beta-caryllophene is very important for switch off the inflammation points in the intestines. best response I've seen is a highCBD strain with plenty of BCP in it.

Agreed. I prefer a whole plant co2 extract. For me, distillate needs distilled cannabis derived terpenes or live sauce added for a more rounded effect.

I don't have any problems replacing flower with these more "full spectrum" type cartridges.

It is also in a lot of spices, pepper, cinnamon, cumin, etc. There is often a reason in traditional food recipes why they add spices aside from the taste.
It is so cool that you have the possibility to choose a strain that fits your requirements better. (compared to the selection outdoor, indoor, hash that was and is quite common in some places)

beta-caryophyllene: same as (-)-trans-cary...;) (why couldn't they chose some easier words)

edit: sorry @looney2nz its just a bad case of professional deformation

I'll post here as it seems the best place, even though the discussion so far is very different from my question.

Is anyone noticing a distillate shortage in Southern California?

There is a ton of it in pods and carts, but syringes are hard to find. Weedmaps is useless now as dispensaries list tons of items and it costs too much time to look through them all--especially when when you DO find what you're looking for the dispensary does not have it when you arrive. (I'm getting a little tired of the Weedmap Menu BS. These are supposed to be fully legal businesses that comply with state laws. I await the lawsuits on consumer fraud at the dispensaries due to the advertising problem.) [See if you think 17500 et. sec. would apply. https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/...vision=7.&title=&part=3.&chapter=1.&article=1. ] Personally, I might try 17500.5(b). How many $50 + driving cost small claim lawsuits do you think a dispensary has to lose before they start taking menu listing seriously?

I've been trying out the Pax and Stiiizy pod tech since I got one for a buddy a few weeks ago and kinda like it. The pods are ridiculously marked up right now and I'm not going to keep buying them new and want to try to refill a bit. But, I can't find the product to fill them with. I don't want to make it my hobby where I'm mixing and matching different things to make the finest juice. I just want a reasonably priced syringe I can attempt to refill the pods I have.

Anyone KNOW a place that has product in Southern California? (To limit a bit, how about in the area that can be boxed by the 710, 405, 55 and 91 freeways or near abouts.)

Yes a few of us have definitely noticed, I know @looney2nz has. IMO this is being done on purpose to keep the price of .5g carts high. Then even have .3 mL carts entering the market now.

Not long ago I posted on here asking if anyone even knew the name of a brand selling clean distillate syringes. I can't find anything.

I started to post this multiple times and it has just descending into a rant each time...
this situation hasn't gotten better folks.

Between the games they are playing with lab testing, sub-quality products, sub-dose products, packaging, etc... I wouldn't trust 95% of these folks as far as I could throw 'em.

Between the crap they are selling in carts, the distinct LACK of syringes (let alone clean labs), and the utter DRECK folks are selling for edibles, I'm surprised no one has died THIS year.

It's going to boil down to this, like the guy who died from the aspergillus that came with a side of his meds... someone will die, the lawsuits will fly. Nice if you're a lawyer. Clearly the state is too busy making money off of us patients to care.

Wow, in honor of my late friend Erik Heimstadt (Seraph on ASA and 666 on others) I dedicate my 666th post. Speaking of lawyers, he never went into a meeting without James Anthony and Greg (the ACLU drug lawyer).

Got a $50 1 gram syringe in San Diego rec store, but it's really designed for dabbing, called the Dabberatus. Plunger system pushes out tiny dab doses with every plunge, so I have to keep pushing the damn thing. Filled OVNS JC01 pod. There were 1 gram vials of Select oil, but pricey at $70, and need syringe. Select carts are same price

wow, that's pretty obscene :(

Wasn't the Jetty extracts applicator a 'dabberatus' or something like that?
Jetty has a nice product.

I finally was able to get some distillate (New Generation--Santa Ana) and it came in the Dabaratus device mentioned by @ChooChooCharlie . The device is a wonky click-type device that simply does not work that well as a syringe. The only reason I bought one was because of the drought on distillate AND because the tip of the device slips right into the side holes of a Stiiizy pod. Jetty has a Dablicator device that works GREAT. (I've used it for oiling pads for the Firefly 2.) The difference is, with the Dablicator, you twist the top to load the plunger and then push to get the oil out. With the Dabaratus, it is just like a ball point pen where the click itself will turn a bevel. Jetty has the superior device--unless you have a pod-filling need.

yeah, I used the Jetty Dablicator to fill a tank!

Dang and I thought bay area prices were bad. At Caliva in San Jose (main place I go by b/c I'm a creature of habit and their prices are pretty good for the area IME) they usually have one or two Select vials for $55 (w/o tax of course).

So what extract process, concentrate can you make from dry bud that tastes like the old time honey oil. ? Do you know what i am talking about? Maybe just oil from hash?
The newer types have almost no taste. May as well take a pill or drink some tequila...at least you don't have to clean up after every few hits with the subsequent bad tastes and maybe frying the coil, whatever.
Joints are looking better these days to me..

Are you in a legal state?

Agreed with @invertedisdead. The first Pax Pod I picked up was a Tangie live resin pod from a dispensary in Denver while moving cross country, it's still the most flavorful one I've tried (though I've not been using them recently because of the cost compared to non-cartridge extracts, especially for live resin/rosin ones), though it certainly didn't run cheap at $70...

You can DIY your own rosin from bud on the cheap with a hair straightener. The results won't be as good as with an actual rosin press but it's a cheap way to see if you like it before dropping money on a press.

Anyone knows if legal (rec) dispensaries West of the Mississippi will mail filled carts, or distillates to a legal state East.

Prices charged for carts here in Ma is pure capitalism. :2c:

Cannabis is a Schedule I drug. It is a felony to traffic or solicit the transportation of such things across state lines. Even if a legal dispensary wanted to send you one, they wouldn't. Getting caught would end their license and might put the sender in prison.

One of the reasons of a desire for descheduling--even in "legal" states--is the fact they WANT to sell weed interstate. However, both federal and most state's laws I've read on the matter still have the transportation over state lines be illegal.

Most places here in AZ have syringes. Pax, and any other of the new pods. They are sourced out to local dispensaries. So you have a wide variety of quality and prices available $25 to $50 . Distillates by nature aren't flavorful hence the added terpenes. Go for rosin, or live resin.
