710 coils

@710Coils ... I'm going to have to try one of these 30mm axial coils with opaque quartz banger ... (and carb cap of course) ... @biohacker has nothing but good things to say about them (and he's not the only one)! If you could PM me when you have more I'd love to get one ordered to see how it pairs up with my FC E-Nail :) I'll be curious how they perform and how the maintenance is for use w/ rosin ...

@Hogni Very excited to see what you think of all your sweet sweet loot once it lands =) You definitely got a serious haul ordered =P

@JCat the coils and bangers are due this week and I can send you a pre order invoice if you wanted to lock it all down ahead of time.

I will shoot you a PM to sync up =)

Loving the new banger, axial coil, and cap. Also sad I didn't get a second mood mat, I want one for my FC-UFO I use with my glass symphony. I'm going to grab blue one when I order the octopus bubble cap and stand.

@710Coils what temps can the mood mad handle? I'm wondering if I can set my glass symphony on it and get color changing effects without melting and/or setting it on fire.

Okay I may have been hitting the sauce a bit too much lately but does anyone prefer the torch over the e-nail/axial coil?? I don't quite understand it, but I just feel like I have a better dab experience when i'm torching the banger! Is it the DOWNtemp?

Anyone else torch exclusively for reasons other than cutting the cord/convenience? I've got some serious torch vs axial/enail testing to do! And i'm not even using an IR gun... just 20s torch time followed by 30s cool down. Perhaps i'll try cutting my coil power right before I take the dab to compare..

Sounds like you are going to need an FC E-Nail so you can use a "script" to replicate the experience the same way every time

I don't have the patience! The axial responds slower than the flat coil i'm used to, but that may have more to do with the size/mass of the banger vs the dnail slim series halo.

I think I just prefer the torch for a bunch of reasons.

@biohacker this is not for everyone and it’s ok if you prefer torch dabbing over enail. I think ofnitnlike cooking over an open fire or on a stove. They are both great. But some prefer one over the other because of personal preference.
One question I did have. What controller at you using?

He's using the High5 LCD one (ie. Omron E5CC). --unless something has changed

Have you run the auto-tune @biohacker ?

So if the temps are swinging dramatically on the omron it’s most likely one of 2 things

1: banger is not snug against the bottom of the coil. This can be tricky to sort initially. But sliding the clip back to the bend will help push the bottom of the coil against the banger

2: omron has an internal solid state relay. When I build my home brew controllers I always use the non integrated ssr omron and add my on ssr. I use a 40am and that’s overkill. But I also never see a temp swing beyond 4 degrees

1 can be fixed easily. But 2 is a bit trickier.

@biohacker can you let us know if you had a snug fit between the coil and the bottom of the banger?

They definitely use an external zero-cross SSR. (I own one of these too and have had it opened up, as well as their cheaper ones ... all external relays)

I would guess more the tip not snug (ie. the thermocouple not making good contact with the banger)

The only downside to the High5 e-nails is their non-standard coil wiring ... apart from that they are great value (especially their Omron based ones) and nothing wrong with the internals ...

Edit: all of the High5's I've seen use a 5A zero-cross SSR, lots for 150W (ie. 150W/110V < 1.5A)

Also I have the same controller as @biohacker (when not using my new FC E-Nail) and it performs admirably with everything I own :)

You know that's the very first thing I did :D

Not sure who said anything about swinging temps?

Of course it's snug, it works great, I just prefer the experience of the torch over the enail/coil that's all. Perhaps it's because I ONLY heat it up on the bottom?

I wouldn't want to own anything else myself... the controller is awesome, as is the axial coil. I guess i'm just old school

@JCat If they have an external SSR. It can be swapped for a better one very easily. So thats really good news for @biohacker. If its a fit issue. Try crossing the clip ion an X when adding the clip and then slide it to the back of the neck where the curve is. You will find a point where is pushes the bottom of the coil against the base of the banger

Keep me posted

There's nothing wrong with the SSR's that are in there :) ... the difference between the SSR-DA40 that you are likely referring to and the 5A one they are using is non-existant ... they are both zero-cross which means they switch at the time the AC sine wave crosses zero ... the difference between 5A and 40A is a moot point unless your coil was >500W as that has no impact on the switching ...

I aim to please =)

You are all long term relationships that I want to nurture and build.

I would not be where I am without all of you and so there is not a day that goes by that I do not take a moment to reflect on how far this wheel less car has made it. Really is humbling and powerful as I would never of been able to get remotely close without all of you.

It takes a village to raise a child. I believe the child is my business and you all are the village =)

So thank you for being soo damn supportive and I look forward to our continued relationship and hope all of you a wonderful day

Your loyal coil and quartz monger

Every other month is the next best thing with you though @biohacker .... ... ;) ...

Gave it a try with my torch quartz banger though, and you're not wrong ... does yield good effect and flavour ... still think I'll prefer the coil ... can't wait for my axial and opaque 30mm!
