Thanks for helping with newbies! Brings back memories of broken switches. It was really only a few months ago when I was fielding endless broken switch issues. No more. The new switch was an LB life saver, and one of the most remarkable things about LB 3.0. Now that switch issue has been completely resolved, Lil' Bud just works. Sometimes you gotta slow down and smell the roses, as this is one goal I can mark off as complete. I have achieved Maytag repair man status.

The improvements in performance are icing on the cake, and the cooling tube pure heaven for a taste chaser like me.

@mr899 It's probably the switch if you're getting nothing. Unfortunately, I can't just pop in a new switch into an old LB, as so many other changes happen to allow the new switch. Do you know how old the unit is?

When it comes to technique, everybody has different combinations that work for them. This is a manually regulated, on demand, powerful convection device, but the function of the device is only half of the formula. Herb prep, load, tamp, as well as tube set up, screen installation.

Dry out the product before crumbling by hand or grinding. The basket screen should be clean, and with a proper set up, it'll stay pretty clean with just picking it clean. The basket screen should be set back so that it's about 1/16 to 1/8 from the tip. Only load your properly prepped herb to cover the screen. Tamp a bit so it stays in place and forms a flower puck, no air spaces, but not tight.

Hit the button and draw slowly, get a sense of what the coil is doing, heat is doing. The idea is to get the heat to hover in the product at just the right time /temp, all controlled by your breath and trigger.

@bossman Yes, a little *back* or *bottom* resistance helps the user regulate the heat. So does the glass insert, so does the hemp fiber, so does the distance. Without the used screen or henmp, it can be harder to get right, combustion more likely.

Indeed all great answers for @mr899 everyone.

I'd share a few tips but if you read all 91 pages and still ain't getting nothing , I'd say 1) someone traded you a defective unit , *wishfully* not knowingly. 2) sounds like a switch glitch . Email Mike and ask for options

Nothing new to report on my end , Lil' Bud kicks ass!

Many thanks for all of the suggestions, I had tried most of these, but am not getting anything. I think this must be newer LB since it does not have a slot for the battery safety tab.

I am willing to send for repair. Please advise if this is possible.

Mostly Cherry and Blends, there is a really gnarly FW in there. Half the cherry, as well as the solo walnut unit, will have same stock switch boxes for a nice effect.

This and the Elite will be happening over the next few weeks. I need to get some more FW into the mix, and bring this total up to about 40. I'd like to build my cooling tube stock up to handle the demand that seems to be building, to be available for this batch.

I received my blend (Black and Tan: Cherry/Walnut blend looks like #130s) today and it is great to have an on demand vape. I felt the FOMO as I really wanted to spend less than 1 minute to get blasted. My regulated vapes make me wait 90 seconds and thanks to my short term memory, I'll forget I have a bowl that's cooking for 5 minutes. Then I'll get too high and forget to finish the bowl or my 12 minutes is up. I've used and owned many regulated devices like the Solo, Air, Da Vinci, etc., the the desktops of the SSV, Vapor Bros, and EVO.

One thing I realized after my first session with a 30% thc banana kush, I was rocked after 4 lung busting rips. I didn't make any precise measurements on the screen, but I think I got it. Pressed the screen down until it's flush with the bowl of the roasting tube. For my first session, I used the vape just like a spoon pipe with a carb. I used my fingers to close up the two holes and pressed the button. I took long steady inhales for maybe 10-20 seconds? and blew out bong sized hits. Amazing.

For my weekend plans, I think I'm going to connect it with a silicon tube so I can use it with my bong.

Thanks Mike, this is a beautiful piece of art (and classy) and I'll put together a video in the near future.

Got home from work early today, and while there was no *plan* for the day, I decided to move forward on my 30 Lil' Buds in progress. Today was switch box cut out day, and the way I do this is a lot like the way I'd cut box joints or dove tails on the tablesaw. In other words, the stock is milled away by the blade in multiple passes, so the entire switch box space is literally turned to dust. Of course my table saw has a dust port, with a dedicated shop vac, but the ports clog with this type of work, as small flat slices of wood will lodge themselves everywhere. I always wear long sleeves, and a dust mask for switch box cutouts, because by the time I'm done, I'm covered in saw dust. Thirty switch box cut outs, at about 20 passes per unit, that's a good 600 reps with the saw never shutting down. I guess that took about 2 hours, then I had to hand finish each one. When I first started this process, the hand chisel work was about 20 or 30 minutes per unit, today it was a minute or two.

Tomorrow, I continue boring holes for the taper and coil, as well as finalize the switch boxes. Pre-assembly will be right around the corner. Then it's coil forming time!

Was also looking at some walnut stock. I haven't decided whether to continue my online search, or just go local. We'll see. I was teaching at a school today, and they were about to throw away some kid's building blocks that are pretty much the same size as the cherry blanks I buy (1.5" x 3" x 12") I've been buying, only in maple. So look for some maple Classics coming soon, at a slightly discounted price.

Good Freaking Morning!

I'm really excited about my battalion of Lil' Soldiers... 30 bad boys, lined up. For a vape lover, it's like watching The March of the Wood Soldiers, when the soldiers get wound up and come alive.

I got some glass inserts on the way, by the end of the weekend, I should have a couple of cooling tubes posted for sale. Right now the supply is very limited until I get a big tube order from Alan. The cherry, maple, or walnut (limited supplies so you have to take what's left) tubes with a 19/19 taper, glass insert, 1/2" hole bored 3/8" into the tip is $40. If you want the addition of the 8 circumference vent holes, it's an extra $10. These are drilled about 3/32 from the tip around the perimeter, allowing heat to enter the load from not just the open face, but via 8 strategically places holes for a more even roast. It also removes material, speeding heat up time. Shipping will be $5. First come first serve, if you already know my paypal email, just send payment, or else can PM me for my paypal info.

This won't get posted for sale on the site until I build a couple and take pics. I figured I'd offer the few units I'll have for sale here, until my mega batch of tubes comes in. It's all about keeping the funds flowing, so I can stock up on material. Whatever is sold here, will be used to purchase the roasting tubes for the Elite and the 40 units I'm adding to inventory, as well as cooling tubes.

The March of the Wood Soldiers, when the soldiers get wound up and come alive.

It has probably 45 + years since I saw the film, but I remember some damage after the toy soldiers came to life!. Batten down the hatches and make sure Mrs. Bravesst and Reddy are safe!!

It is so obvious that I almost forgot..take a Lil Bud (or 2) and lots of batteries.

Out in the shop, moving 30 units through each process takes some time. I'm cutting the groove for the rear coil post in the coil chamber, not a big deal when building 10 or even 15, but 30 can take some time. When you do things in bulk like this, where the most time is spent becomes obvious. This is something to think about when trying to streamline the building process.

The two things that really changed inside Lil' Bud, the modification of the inside of the switch box, as well as groove cut in the coil chamber are jobs performed with hand tools, namely chisel and file, and are tedious, time consuming, very fussy, jobs. Shaving time means faster production, and better prices. When I made all of these improvements over the last year, I had to bump up pricing a bit to reflect the extra time spent on each unit. Taking a little look at that now.

Good morning,

Cooling tubes are selling - very wise choice for anyone who loves a smooth, tasty session. Very nice, the plan is coming together. My glass inserts arrive this weekend, and I'll put together my first cooling tube order. After a few more sales, I'm going to order a mega batch of roasting tubes and glass inserts from @Alan. I modified few last night, working with old tubes. Tomorrow, I will begin to streamline the modification process.

2 more tube sold while I was posting this. With all this accessory talk, makes me want to build a Lil' Bud Convenience Station, so you can store extra tubes, batteries, ABV, product, a couple of pic tools. Something that'll keep everything super handy and available, while being discreet. Maybe even plug it in and make a dual charger part of the set up. USB for the Elite. Hmmm...

I LOVE this idea. I have mine kind of cornered into one location, but I've got 6 roasting tubes, the LB, and half a dozen batteries that I'd love to have in their own place. I'm way more orderly about my vaping than when I was about smoking, and this would help a lot.

@beyond6strings first I wanna tell you about my latest. I ground after drying and crumbling. Used an S and B grinder. The result was the coolest fluffy powdery pile of 100% even, no lump heaven. I'll never not dry AND grind again.

The vape station, Lil' Box, is too good an idea not to happen.

I agree, it is too good an idea not to do it. Looking forward to that.

And I've got a huge dollop of OCD so I've been a grinder of all flower since I got my first one a decade ago. I have two pretty expensive grinders, but I've ended up liking the grind I get from a cheapie I got on Amazon. It's perfect for convection vapes-even fluffy, not too fine, and I do think it makes sessions better.

Hmm, the stem sure does look interesting. I'm curious about the holes in the front of the bowl and how it affects the session. Man, LB is changing so fast...
I'm loving all of the development. Something about the multi wood LBs, especially with walnut, looks so old...like from my childhood in the 70s or something. Like little pieces of furniture that match that aesthetic.

I can attest to the glass being a great addition, but it is fragile. I miss my glass insert from Alan, and I didn't have it very long. I use my wooden stem every day. So many people hoppin' onto this, I would love to hear some feedback from some of them after they arrive.

BTW, we know Vapwood is big when there's a u2 edition LB (lol like the u2 ipod back in the day - trying to make a reference about your speed of progress lol I'm high, what do you want from me?)

Good morning everybody!

Let's talk about cooling tubes. The tubes are still being tweaked, as I use and observe results. All the *practice* runs are on my older tubes.

Reason Behind Each Mod in my MRCT
1. Glass insert narrows the ID, changing the volume of air pulled. It also absorbs quite a bit of heat, and gives you a some more distance from the vaporization process.

2. Bored out bowl opens up the tip, makes the bowl a little larger, and provides a shelf (at about 3/8, or the thickness of a forsnter bit head) for the inverted basket screen to sit just right, same depth every time. It also has the effect of removing mass, and less to heat is needed to get good vapor. This is something you can't do with an all glass mouthpiece. I am really trying to get this depth just right.

3. Perforations around tip provide a way for hot air to convect into the bowl from the sides, not just the open faced bottom. The effect is enhanced by reducing the OD around the very tip of the tube, providing a small amount of clearance. These holes also remove mass, so less heat is needed. (upon request only).

4. 19/19 sized taper simply gives you a bit more distance from the coil. Coil to stem distance will be bumped up to 13 mm. This greatly reduces heat and enhances smoothness and flavor.

5. Hemp fiber, a small amount, kind of rolled into a soft ball (not too dense), and inserted into the glass tube. I feel this is more important when the screen is spotless clean, and a bit more resistance is needed to slow things down.

This may be available in longer tubes as well. I am pushing these cooling tubes right now for a couple of reasons. One, they make LB sing. Two, I'm trying to raise the funds to make a very large tube purchase, so I can stock cherry, maple, walnut, as well as cooling tubes in each.

The cooling tube is now available as an option with every Classic, Blend, Total Package, for an additional $25, but is $50 sold separately.

The cooling tube idea is going places. Look for more original concepts in the upcoming months. I've been milking the crap out of ever load with a couple of stirs. I like the bored out bowl. I've been going back and forth with the depth of the bore. Alan has been using as little as 5 mm, while I've been boring to 7 or 8. The 8 mm bore does allow you to stir a bit more easily due to the extra depth. The screen is about 3 or 4, so that gives you 4 mm's of overflow. I may try boring to 6 mm. Also, Alan has been boring a 14 mm hole vs. 13 (half inch). I just ordered a 14 mm bit to try it out. This should be too bad to do in a 19/19 taper, s the tip sits in a bit more meatier portion of the taper.

I've been taking a step back, looking at LB's form. The coil / tube configuration is excellent, and the rest is just supplying power at peak efficiency. Connections, switch, battery, wires, all as good as they can get. Of course the Elite is in the works, but I look at the Elite not as an evolution, but a side track, while the Classic continues to break barriers as a manually regulated device.

I honestly believe the coil / tube configuration, especially with the cooling tube, has taken manual regulation to another level. I am not going to mess with that much. I feel, for an experienced vapist, LB is a very user friendly machine, as is, while the glass insert and short taper really tame LB.

Keeping all electronics out has been a challenge. Even the battery gauge is not part of the circuitry, and cannot effect function. The switch issue had thrown us for a loop, maybe even slowed down popularity, but that is now so over. This new, heavy duty 3 amp monster is truly a pleasure to operate. There is no reason to be trigger shy with LB.

I'm ranting... must be that early morning wake up stem.

Looking/sounding good! Personally I don't think I could ever have applied the adjective "ranting" to any of your posts-
I appreciate the transparency and detail. To clarify the boring, would be for the wood stems that do not have a glass insert?

I bore a 13 mm (may soon be 14 mm) perpendicular hole into tip about 3/8" of an inch deep. This allows the basket screen to be inserted and rest against the little shelf that's created by boring a hole in a hole. You now have a set placement of the screen, which enhances flavor and coolness, especially when doing this with a 19/19 stem instead of starting at 22 mm's of taper. So the boring we're speaking about here is only for the first half inch or so. The 12 mm glass stems will fit inside the standard 12 mm ID of the tubes.

As far as the general need for a cooling tube, I feel that came into play around batch 7 or 8. Coils got tighter, the foil lining reflected radiated heat back into the coil, the new switch let all that 18650 power to come through, and we need a way to tone down. I finatically standardized the coil to stem distances. Alan introduced me to a few more concepts to help cool everything, glass insert, hemp fiber, shorter taper, bored hole, and here we are.
