StemPod by MPL

has anyone heard from Dan lately? My stempod has has died and I haven't gotten any responses to email or PM for a few days. I'm guessing it may be midterms but it's unlike him to ignore correspondence. The problems I'm experiencing is something that will have to be addressed at the lab so I'm hoping Dan is reading this.

Looks like he last posted Weds here normally he respond quickly maybe just took couple days off?

Now that you got me curious what happened with the stempod?

Here a link reviewing some wire for foggyent. Might be a starting spot.
http://vapingunderground.com/threads/wire-quality-sources.310245/

The only coils I have bought been the 316L mad rabbit assortment pack of premade coils. Out of them I like the hive and the super clapton the best. With 8 coils (4each) has kept me more than busy.

There some seller on eBay that make custom coils not sure thou on quality of them. I did consider this one in link so going toss it out there. Hopefully other have some better suggestion.

Last week I thought I was finally going to venture into TC on my own and started using the stempod on my Tesla punk. I couldn't get any results at TCR 215 and eventually made it up to TCR 290 without any results. Finally after a few days I gave up and went back to VW this weekend. Started at the 38-40W which is the range on the Tesla that works best for me usually but I didn't get it to work till it was up to 50W. Figured it had to be the coils getting old so I changed them out to a new set of the claptons and attached the stempod back to my paranormal. I got a "check atomizer" warning so I tried it with the Therion. The Therion flashed the dreaded "OFF" but the the coils were heating up regardless of the warning and started smoking. This was on TC so don't know how the coils can heat up enough to smoke. Anyway I can't get the stempod to work now and I'm not sure I really want to try on my own given how the coils were smoking after a 2 second firing. I checked and made sure the coils didn't make any contact with anything, the 510 screw is on tight, and all the threads are completely clean. Anyway that's where I'm at right now:shrug:

Edit- According to Dan the smoking and the coils turning blue from that firing is normal. I don't remember that ever happening with my first set but I have no reason to doubt Dan. Be it as it may, normal or not, I can't get my stempod to be recognized by the mods so it can't be used regardless

If there's anyone with coil and atty experience please feel free to offer tips/suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated

There should be a few other material file try the splinterZ profile first. If runs too hot can try to other materials. Just make sure your using the correct cold ohm. You may need to enter them manually if it resampled coil well hot.

What coils are causing problems? My stock coils are shot so used the super clapton instead. I also used this material file with them.

"Temperature (degF)","Electrical Resistivity"
-100,0.8936767578125
0,0.956298828125
70,1
200,1.0716552734375
400,1.169921875
600,1.255615234375
800,1.332275390625

The results below are for a 20 second draw. Red solid line is the set temperature (380) Green is wattage (55) Notice it stays at set temperature though most of the inhale. You can see at the end of graph how much effort it took to cause some spike and dips. Not something I normally do in daily use.

But helped me tell the peak wattage of 55 for these coils can be increased. At higher temperature I will need more than 55 watts to offset a large draw. Since only use the high wattage as needed going bump wattage to 65 for these coils.

According to the puff info on device this inhale used a average of 41.7 watts and the average temperature was 373.3 little below 380 but really not bad since that factors in time to reach 380.

@HerbieVonVapster When I last tried troubleshooting I had the stempod profiles in both the paranormal and the therion, neither mods were functioning and gave warning flashes. I'll see if changing profiles will help but I have a feeling there's a short because it's not reading any resting resistance. If I fire it goes right into the "check atomizer" or "OFF", it was the oem clapton coils that was installed by the way, not comfortable enough to try different coils yet.

You might have to install new coils if that issue keeps happening. I was getting some weak performance after about 2 months of use with the oem coils. Changed them and everything worked. Make sure when installing that both coils glow evenly. I'm not sure if people are doing that, but that's a huge aspect for rdas. Hope everything works out man!

Thanks for trying to help guys, took the stempod apart when I got home this evening and reassembled it again. It’s working so I’m happy about that. One coil is glowing faster and more even than the other:hmm:. Resistance is dodgy too, one moment it reads .43 and next it’ll read .35 so I can’t quite figure it out. Anyway I’m glad it’s not a short, but still, I realized I’m in over my head with this device. Calibrating a mod is doable but tweaking with coils is a bit more than I want to commit to after having tried. There’s just a lot more variables than I’m comfortable or familiar with so i’ll just have to appreciate this from the sidelines :).

Thanks @Summer i followed all the textbook tips, my paranormal is back in to “temp protect” again after the resistance shot up the .51ohms. I’m done. it’s not worth the trouble of screwing and unscrewing the atty and fucking up my mod over. It’s a nice device but not for me.

@almost there for what it's worth, SS wire i've had in the past tends to be quite "dirty" so a bit of smoke when firing new wire wouldn't surprise me at all.

At this point the coils could smoke all they want I just want a device that is usable. I'm getting temp protect warnings on all 3 mods. Funny, I always thought I was capable enough with my hands I didn't expect this simple coil change procedure to lead into such a drawn out ordeal......:bang:

Reminds me of the tweaking needed on the elevape at times. With the stempod need coil spacing adjusted good and make sure there not touching the side of the stempod.

With what you describing sound like you might need to tighten up the connection of the coils. If you played with coils by adjusting them etc might be a tad loose. Make sure there really good and tight. Hopefully the coils will be more evenly glowing now.

If so let cool and remeasure coil make sure that's correctly entered. I normally don't lock ohm on the DNAc but if your still having problem could try locking it with the DNA mods see it helps. On the DNAc would load default theme well troubleshooting since some can cause the temp protection warnings. Also the alloys vary in wires so can try the the other materials files.

But "temp protect" means it's working properly! It enters protection when it reaches temperature.

Shoulda been a tad clearer that is normally correct. The DNAc have a issue with some themes. Instead of throttling in temp protection it instead completely cuts power. By using the default theme it removes that from possible issue from appearing. Since he was getting the warning wanted him to test with the stock theme. Sorry about the confusions there.

Anyone in the UK with a StemPod who can recommend good places to get spare parts, UK or EU? Weighing up a StemPod as one option for next vape but it seems like it is more maintenance than a tubo, Splinter, or iHeat with the coils burning out.

maybe on some mods? I'm getting temp protect as soon as I fire and I'm not getting heat, the coils don't get hot or red.

@HerbieVonVapster Last night I took everything apart again and gave all the components a royal tune up. Wiped everything down for the 4th time and painstakingly rewound the coils back to the original shape as much as possible. Made sure everything was spaced out perfect and ALL screws are as tight as it will go after remounting the coils. Got .28 ohms after attaching the mod, this was the best resistance I've managed to date. No luck with TC but that's more progress than the sum of all of last week's effort. Anyway, things are at least getting closer to normal.

I had an epiphany this morning, I woke up with the thought "REPLAY", ha, gonna give that a go tonight, maybe I won't need TC at all if the testing works out . Thanks everyone for all the tips and support.

I get most of mine from Fasttech an ePacket from them in China to the UK usually arrives in 6-10 days
In the UK I've had good experiences with Crazy Wire Company (wireandstuff.co.uk) and vape-atomizer-mesh.com

This is the Super Clapton wire I've had best results with so far www.fasttech.com/p/6191905

The rolled up flattened out 200 mesh build worked well but it was another power hog.

So this time I've gone for a 4 coil vertical build to join in on the 4 coil fun with 4 x 12 wrap 3mm coils using 24 gauge (.51mm) 316L which is a lot more efficient. I've had 4 bowls off a new set of batteries in the invoke so far and still got 71% left. Just starting to glow at temp, temp control is excellent drawing about 37watts max under heavy load so I'm using 50W max to get up to temp which takes about 7 seconds from cold.
Fingers crossed I think I might be able to get 10 bowls from 2 batteries with this build :science:

Which differences are you observing with the quad coils?? I am extremely happy with my thick-ass 20 gauge 7 wrap dual coils but I also have some 22 gauge premade coils over here so Im tempted to try this. I think the thicker the coil, better the taste. I dont like claptons or anything with a thin wire because it gives a strong metallic aftertaste. My actual coil needs 45 watts and it takes 5-6 second to take to temp. It glows red but it wont go orange even if I let the button pressed with no draw. I have not appreciated any degradation in the days I have been using it. I get monster clouds on par with the Milaana and flavour is on par too.

I agree about the flavour, and getting a juicier vape with thicker coils like the Super Claptons
I'm quite sensitive to the metallic taste from thinner wires so I'm happy to report that there was almost no metallic taste from the start and has gone now after a few cycles.
It's a drier vapour, more like a full convection vape this time. Getting good flavour throughout the bowl with very little airflow, Abv is nice n even with a couple of stem rotations.
Not as efficient as the Splinter but flavour and production is pretty similar.

Did a quad coil setup just for fun and I don´t really notice a difference in performance over my last build. Used gauge 22 ss316 wire coils. I do appreciate much more uniform vaporization because in my test run I didnt need to stir to achieve perfect almost black bud. Used 45 watts and a slow draw, coils did glow a little but no orange at all so we are good. Here you got the photo:

keep in touch, sounds like that deck may have an issue since youre at .28 and the screws are tight as possible, that or your mods female 510 is crunched and not making a good connection. You could either send the piece to me to check out or send some pics of the deck from all angles and I can send a replacement if I can't see an obvious issue

Does anyone know what the O-RING size is?

I am trying the DNA fuckcombustion profiles but I cant find a material that works in my quad coil SS build pictured above, does any of you know which material should I configure for that??

Would suggest the stempod if not try 316L by djlsb also make sure your remeasuring resistance when you load profiles well the coils are cold.

Do make sure everything tight with the coils and the 510 screw in base isn't loose.
