I love my fw5, the best portable for how powerful it is, wish I didn’t have to sell mine.

Hey are there any common issues with the fw5?

About to pull the trigger but I don't want to constantly send it in for repair since I live in Canada.

Some early units produced some charring I remember reading. I have two units. Both are significantly different in terms of how sensitive to draw speeds. The units buzz if draw speed is too slow or fast.

Mark in correspondence says there is a range on this buzzing and draw speed and that units may vary to some degree.

The first unit basically can be drawn at any reasonable speed. But at the high temp setting it produces a charring taste after the first draw. There may be air leak, like the early units. I have replaced all o-rings and correctly put back together. No change. I love the unit because it isnt sensitive to draw speed. I dislike the unit because of a char taste at high temp setting.

The second unit never produces a charring taste. But even at the high temp, with a new battery, it does not always fully cook the material, especially on the first bowl (first as in location, not first as in first draw in time). The second unit also is very finicky on draw speed and buzzing at me. I very much dislike that, its annoying as hell, but if careful I can get solid clouds, usually.

I've been in conversation with Mark, and I want to test the units more and eliminate all variables and possible misuse by me. But so far, after weeks of using both, and correctly loosely packing the bowls with medium course or fine grind material, and using fully charged batteries, the above description of the units is consistent as stated.

All and all, both units I like, I just wish first didnt char and the second didnt buzz... I'll update mark with a video of both and either I'll keep both because nothing can be done or maybe he'll have a solution.

Marc was not kidding about the redesign! Very few similarities between this and my FW2! At least visually. I opted for a cherry FW5. And again, extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and customer service working with this artisan.

I still need to find a way to collect ABV on the go, that is my one hesitation with this new design. But I will find a way, or I will just use something else on the go.
Polishing the FW5 one a lot more smoothly than when I polished my first firewood as well-I noticed visually, aesthetically, Marc has gained more skilled with working with Wood, it is also evident in the texture of the grain, both feeling and would initially as well as my finishing. Looking forward to testing out how it performs soon-
can't wait!

Little update, I've been able to nix the charring taste on my first unit by adjusting how I load the bowls and by replacing a silicone seal. Depending on the grind consistency and dryness of the material, the FW5 bowl's can be loaded more full or less full. Also air leaks can manifest as charring.

In other words, I think the unit had a bad seal, which got better with changing the lower gasket, and then I was over filling with very dry material.

Now that I've adjusted the fill level and replaced that gasket, all is well with the world.

Although, I say that, but my second unit still has the buzz buzz issue. Working on that... I still really like the unit but it's definitely much more sensitive to draw speed than the first unit. The first unit more completely roasts material too. Maybe marginal, but very noticable differences.

Can anyone comment on how the FW5 is for carrying around in your pocket? I think the only issue I would have is maybe snapping the glass stem since it protrudes from the body, but a wooden stem would resolve this.

I guess it depends on what you're doing but I feel pretty fine pocket carrying it most places. With winter coming on I've switched it to the interior jacket pocket but I was just carrying it in my jeans' front pocket before now. My main worry was fumbling for other things in the same pocket and possibly pulling it out accidentally and dropping it.

If you've loaded your firewood 5 up with the 5 chambers filled , what's it like carrying in your pocket . Does any herb fall out ? Or is it quite a snug fit ? I'm thinking cancelling my healthyrips fierce order and going for a fw5 . Thoughts, advice please . Cheers

hey i just bought the firewood 5 and i have a quick question about boosting the temperature.

so i'm trying to boost the level 4 temperature. so i click 8 > 4 > 4.

So does this boost the level 4 temperature from 400F to 401F? I want to try using 440F, would I need to do this like 40 times?

Carrying the unit in your pocket is not a problem at all for causal strolls. If recreating, e.g., skiing, it should be fine too, but I do worry about the small glass length protruding, breaking, and cutting me. Mark should make a slightly shorter glass stem and the problem would be solved.

My glass stem cracked in my pocket, but it was of no consequence because the it broke under the silicone sleeve (inside the unit) and performance is totally unaffected.

Herb goes nowhere once tray is in the unit. The tray is quite nicely designed.

Have not had any issue with the stem on either of my FW models- carry in front pocket much of the time.

Wavy on youtube in his review talks about how the fw5 invites "temp surfing" might want to check it out

Sending anything to the EU is a costly, regulatory, bitch of a time IME.... All on the EU's end of things...

Sent a used vape and buyer had to pay a $60 fee just to pick it up... for example...

(Massive domestic taxes on goods sold inside the countries, means they gotta tax the hell out of imports, and have ridiculous customs enforcement, to keep people from cheating and buying and shipping from abroad. See e.g., https://www.government.nl/topics/export-import-and-customs/taxes-on-imported-goods; https://www.flexport.com/help/413-eu-customs-duties)

I mean I'm an attorney, and i'd rather rip a tooth out with a pair of pliers than read and figure out what to do and how much to pay to ship anything commercially into the EU....

Mark is keeping life simple and easier and away from trade barriers and crazy taxes and laws.

I put a firewood 5 into my basket and selected the UK . No issues so far. My main concern is, is this the vape for me?

Yeah I don't blame him, some EU countries have insane restrictions and fees.
