I've just removed or edited a few posts about hipsters and microdosing. If someone wants to make a thread about hipsters and microdosing in the lounge, be my guest. Although judging by the posts here that thread would likely get shut down pretty fast. Play nice folks, and please keep the thread on topic.

Thank you.

Hello, @StringTheorista ! :wave:Should be dropping in your lap, anytime now. Yes, let us know, please. :nod:

Miqro arrived yesterday. I am a micro-doser (and emphatically not a hipster), and a relatively new partaker in the herbal medicine. Also, not experienced with conduction vapes—I’ve used vapcap, lotus, e-nano.

I filled the oven with about what you could overpack into a vapcap, tamped it, extended the pearl to max extension. Ground with Santa Cruz shredder, so it was not a fine grind. First hit was honey bananas on smart path 2. Delicious! Worked on that bowl for the rest of the evening. This morning GSC, same load, took it up to path 3 and briefly 4.

The trouble I’m having, and seeking advice about, is this:

It cools the vapor very effectively (not really a problem, but read on). So I don’t feel vapor in my mouth or lungs (unlike vapcap, where I can tell there’s vapor. And with this small amount of medicine, there’s little to no visible vapor. So I can’t tell whether I’m hitting it with the best technique, because I can’t tell what I, am getting. I've read reviewers talk about “sipping” it, and I know how to do mouth pulls (my preferred vapcap technique), but with this device I can't tell whether I’m getting anything. (As it turns out i got more than I expected this morning ;)). A switch to the extended mouthpiece helped a bit.

I am open to any and all suggestions that have worked with this or the IQ, as I assume it responds to the same techniques that work with the IQ. I gather not long slow pulls, but beyond that, help!

Buried the lede: this is an impressive little thing. Beautiful fit and finish, excellent flavor, eminently pocketable and discrete. I’m liking it , and expect to love it when I figure out the best way for me to interact with it to get the level of lift I’m seeking.

If you're getting good flavour, and effects, it sounds as though everything's going well :nod:, not sure what help you need?

Others may have a different take, but I find the mIQro doesn't really need any 'technique' beyond knowing that long, slow lungfulls are kinda pointless, as all the vapour has already left the vape and entered your lungs in the first few moments.

I too 'feel' VC vapour in my mouth, and I also don't 'feel' the vapour from the mIQro as it's a little cooler by the time its made its way through the vape, but I don't find this problematic in any way.
Taste for me usually happens on the exhale (on all vapes, except maybe the Millana, and Grasshopper, but even with them it's mostly evident on the exhale), all I generally experience during the draw is heat (unless it's an exceptionally tasty strain, or I'm using higher temp's).

This is just a guess, but is your concern that you simply can't tell if anything is happening until you breathe out?

If so I'd say just don't worry about it and trust the vape to get you there, as the mIQro doesn't demand any real technique you can't really get it wrong.

In that respect it's a great vape to share with non vapers as the only instruction required is "suck on this", and "give it a few seconds to recover between draws".

Glad you're enjoying it though :tup:

So happy to hear you're enjoying your MIQRO. @Copacetic is spot on about the vapor process and even tailoring your personal experience. Another tip, if you'd like to see more vapor, I'd recommend vaping on smart path 4 and/or vaping between 415 -430 F. Hope this helps :-)

I recently got my Miqro and wanted to give some initial impressions in a written format, since most of what I've seen has been in video form. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm old fashioned sometimes and don't have a fancy recording rig or editing software, so here goes!

(FYI this is reposted from Reddit if it looks familiar)

The first thing you can't help but notice is just how tiny the Miqro is. I'd seen videos and reviews online but to actually hold it is just impressive - mostly thanks to using a 18350 battery instead of the more standard but longer 18650. The build quality feels incredibly solid too, as it's components feel weighty and rigid. It sits great in both the hand and in the pocket. Hinges move freely and magnets and doors snap tightly without being a burden to open either the chamber or the mouthpiece/battery compartments.

I will say that it took me a bit of fiddling to figure out the flow of the modes and what all of the readouts on the LED displays did, but the instructions (https://www.davincivaporizer.com/content/user-manuals/miqro-vaporizer-owners-manual.pdf) do a great job of showing what each of the outputs should be for each mode. Because there's quite a few functions but only 3 buttons, it's worth reading over the instruction manual to make sure you know how to get in and out of Precision Mode. There's a few times where you'll be shown a lot of numbers, like going from Smart Path to Precision Mode will show you the (1) current temperature of the oven, then you press up/down and it will then show you (2) the current set Precision Temperature, and if you keep pressing up or down it will then (3) change the temperature, and finally (4) flash your current Precision temperature. It's a lot of information to take in at first but at this point I understand exactly how to interpret the readout and each mode has its own display style - Smart Path has 4 dots across which blink while heating up; Precision Mode has 4 dots vertically when at temp, showing animated up arrows occasionally interrupted by the current temperature when heating up; Boost/Standby Mode shows animated up/down arrows depending on if you're holding the Control button or not. My advice? Play with the Miqro until you get to this point on your first day and you shouldn't have any problems in the future.

After doing burnoffs and playing with all of the buttons and settings to get an idea of just how to get between the 3 modes (Smart Path, which is the default and starts at a preset temperature and raises 20 degrees over the 5 minute session; Precision Mode, where you choose your own static temperature; and Boost/Standby Mode), I loaded up the chamber about half full, probably 0.10-0.15g, and adjusted the pearl to the right depth so it made an indention in the herb when I closed and reopened the chamber, but was still gentle to close. The pearl is a nice touch from other vaporizers I've tried, reducing the chamber size to make chamber "full" even with a half pack. This really helps with convection since a tighter pack means more contact with the hot walls lending to more efficient extraction and a better use of battery.

Personally I like starting at lower temps to get the most out of my herb, and since Smart Path 1 begins at 350F and goes to 370F I started in Precision Mode at 330F. The flavor was so good and rich while being very cool, an impressive result out of such a tiny device. The draw resistance wasn't too bad either, though I expect that filling the chamber more would have contributed to a higher resistance, though more time will tell with that.

After a few hits at 330F I decided to try Smart Path 1 (350-370) and found that after a stir of the herb everything was a nice golden brown. There was a little bit of green left but it was mostly a nicely even toasting of the herb. Wanting to really try out the Miqro to its full extent, I went for Smart Path 4 (410-430) and found that the vapor wasn't nearly as hot as I expected. I've tried other pen-shaped dry herb vaporizers in the past and on their hottest settings I always felt like I was going to choke on the heat. The Miqro wasn't like this at all, as the mouthpiece stayed warm to hot but not uncomfortable throughout all of these sessions and the vapor was a enjoyable and flavorful experience, even at the highest setting.

After about an hour and a half of playing in menus and taking drags the Miqro finally buzzed to tell me I had 10% left. As a side note, the haptic feedback was really nice. It's noticeable in your hand or from a few feet away that it's buzzed, but certainly nothing like the haptics on the Boundless CFX which are a bit loud for my tastes. It took only about an hour to charge back to full as well, which means that even without using my second battery the downtime between empty and charged really isn't bad. A second battery or a battery pack would solve this issue easily.

I have to say one of the things I was most impressed with was that I never felt like I got too far gone in these session, which is exactly what I wanted out of the Miqro. Being able to easily microdose was my hope and it seems that DaVinci has been able to do this, as I was able to write a first draft of this First Impressions review and get a lot of thoughts down without the fogginess or "what was I doing again?" that comes with some other heavier hitters like my Sticky Brick Junior. That's not to say that I didn't feel good from the Miqro (far from it), but I feel like it's easy to avoid debilitation with the Miqro. I'm excited to see how this fits into my daily life of chores, writing, research, and gaming.

All in all I think this is going to be exactly what I was hoping for out of an ultra-portable vaporizer. It's compact, discrete, and has a lot of variety with individual temperatures or smart paths. The only real "concern" is the battery life, but I knew that already about the Miqro and with a second battery on hand I could absolutely get through a day or day and a half without issue using it as a primary vaporizer without recharge. The ability to use while charging is also a massive plus, as a battery pack while out and about (which I carry anyway for charging phones) means no worries about running out of battery if you come prepared.

While I don't expect the Miqro to become my sole daily driver, I expect it will have a very regular place in my sessions and in my pocket.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you enjoyed! And I'll be posting a more thorough review of the vape and of the Explorer's Kit once I've had some more time with everything.
Thanks for the review @yourtokingbuddy. I’m gonna steal your 330 degrees then path 1 approach.
Figuring out how to set a precise temp was a bit wonky. I expected that it would be a matter of setting the individual digits of my target temp one by one. But actually it’s just going up or down from current temp. Once I grokked that, it was reasonably straightforward.
So an update,
I got my Miqro on Monday and have been playing with it for a few days now and I'm not sure what to think honestly.
It's small but feels nice in my hand, I find myself just wanting to pick it up and hold it for no reason.
Actual use is where I think I must be doing something wrong. I get vapor, I feel the effects, but everything tastes like I'm sucking on a dried out stick I found on the ground. I have tried 4-5 driffernt strains from berry flavors to earthy flavors and it all tastes bad.
I am totally new to dry herb vaping and have never smoked, I have only used oil Vapes in the past so I am a hardcore rookie so I am pretty sure I am just doing something wrong.
I have tried all four of the smart paths and various manual settings covering the full range with no noticable change in taste, I have tried different strains from different growers all bought from medical clubs and had friends that smoke try them so pretty sure it's not that.
I have heat cycled and cleaned between uses, I've tried both the flat and extended mouth piece.
I just ordered a new 2pc space case grinder that I will get today to see if my grind has just been bad. Other than that I am wondering in I am over / under filling or packing the bowl but I'm not noticing a difference. The ABV is all coming out darkish brown but doesn't look or smell like there is any burning and I almost always keep the temp below 390F.
So I need some ideas here on what I might be doing wrong or what I can try. I am totally new to all this so nothing is too simiple of a mistake for me to be making.
Showed this to my roommate. We aren't in a legal state and he only needs 1 hit ever (how I used to be!) anymore would put him in an extremely uncomfortable state.
This is perfect for him at a great price perfectly discreet.
I'll get one too myself due to the size. Think this is great size wise even smaller than a pax.
Love the progress we keep making on vapes! Keep plowing ahead with more quality options!
Will purchase second I get my first paycheck from New job to add to my collection. Still need a Dr dabbed too haha
That's weird, all I can suggest is to try lower temps ?
I know I much prefer smart paths 1&2 for flavour.
Higher than that and taste suffers.
Not sure what else to suggest as it sounds as though you have access to much better material (and much more choice) than me.
I can't believe I'm even saying this:
What do you guys think of a phone app for this?
I'm normally not a big fan at all of phone apps for these devices, but maybe it could be an option for some people who may find it faster to configure via the app rather than wait for led signals?
Sounds like it would be good for configuring smart paths.
Maybe we won't know til we try.
I like this price point being available in a micro device. I think they really hit the sweet spot here.
We're not even done with how good these types of vapes can be. I'm sure induction technology with this size when that's possible will be insane.
Excited to see what comes next. Each time I see devices like this it's a MUST HAVE and there have been many of those innovations coming out in rapid succession I'm excited.
Just random baked thoughts. Can never get this feeling from what I have available to me current.
Sitting here with my scrunged up vape pen I have hidden at home currently at my mother's place. You get what you get sometimes haha. Will be sad when this runs out this was actually good.
Only 5 or so more days until I finally live in a legal state. Only cost me a crap ton more in rent, but finally I can pick strains and thc content. Ugh can't wait.
Gotta read the thread and see the bong usage the 10mm mouth piece was intriguing although an odd size but if it works well with adapters what do I care. Maybe works well with ecig attachments or nectar collector, I guess I'll hunt not a long read.
Edit :vaporizers help you save bud and low you different methods of doing so. It's an investment.... If I buy a lot of vapes I'm investing in my vaping future. I'm not justifying it to you all... Just explaining it to you. Hahaha
The fit into the 10 mm bowl of the j hook is a tad loose, so I stabilize the glass with my fingers as shown. I also rolled an o ring onto the mouthpiece of the MIQRO so the j hook is pressed against it.
How is the smell while using? I've only had convection vapes except the dynavap I guess, is there a difference in smell/odor. lingering?
Thanks,
Thanks,
I have similar experience in that most of the vapes I've tried are convection.
I do find the mIQro to smell a little more than my other portables (both in use, and at rest after starting a bowl), but not strikingly so.
I've had a comment that the IQ smells more than the VC, and it does, but I was sharing a couch with the person who mentioned it, and when I've used the VC while they are around, I've been sitting on the other side of the room.
It smells more than my other stealth champ, the Grasshopper, but it feels more discrete in use for some reason, despite smelling a little more.
Thanks, I feel like I can vape and go to work with no odor with my convection vapes. Afraid of having an odor. I'll keep my eye on the grasshopper. Maybe when they're at version 8-9? Haha.
Your comment on the size discreetness is interesting. I'll keep that in mind. I wanted a vape for bars and this is probably it. I don't like drinking at all anymore. Vaping just makes me think of how poisonous alcohol is lol.
Happy to help :cheers:
Bear in mind that the DV does smell a bit more than the GH.
It's definitely not a 'night and day' situation though, much more subtle than that.
I was lucky enough to get a fully functional Hopper (so far, had it about 2+ years, I think) and if general reports re' Hopper reliability were normal, then recommending a purchase between the GH and mIQro would be much harder, but as things stand I'd definitely go for the mIQro.
Operation is quite different, and a quick, discrete hit is over in seconds with the GH (if you want it to Be), but the mIQro allows/forces a slower approach which takes several pulls for the same effect.
This is more leisurely than the GH, but arguably less stealthy in terms of the number of pulls you are taking which might attract attention in a bar.
The mIQro can be entirely concealed from sight in an average male hand (even with the long mouthpiece) though, which kinda offsets the 'get 'er done quick' advantage that the GH has.
Not much between them as far as stealth goes, but in light of the historical :rant: surrounding the GH I definitely recommend the Davinci (even though I've had it much less time, and there is far less reports in this thread than the GH one).
GH are still trying to get their first vape to function reliably, whils DV have moved on and have the experience of 3 entirely different vapes behind them before this one.
Oh, I do feel that I owe it to you to say that the GH can be a fair bit more economical with your herb than the DV.
But this only really applies to micro-doses, which are possible in the mIQro, but are less satisfying in regards to vapour production.
I am talking about very small doses though.
On medium to large doses there's less difference in economy.
I'm with you on booze, sorta.
I love all sorts of booze, malt whiskey, good gin, red wine and my favorite is probably Belgian trappist beers.
Sadly alcohol doesn't agree with me, and even fairly small amounts have the potential to make me very ill, so I only drink small amounts at a time, occasionally.
I'd give booze up in a heartbeat in favour of legal :leaf: though!
