Alrighty ladies and gents, I have owned a ArGo for good while now and I think this vape may fly. I have a few vapes in Jamaica and took them there new. I've never been comfortable I could remove all residue from a vape so that I could fly with it, but the ArGo is about as easy to clean perfectly as a vape is gonna get (Unless I took my FlowerPot, but not sure about finding good glass there at a price I'd be willing to pay). What do you as an hello ArGo owner think? I'm really risk adverse, but I think this is ridiculously low risk especially after shaking the tube in alcohol and wiping the heater area out with an alcohol soaked Q-Tip. Thoughts? Respect! -YaMon

I think part of the plan should include a ready 'excuse' for having it should they ask, "And what is this?". Solo has the aroma therapy dish which, with some benign herbs, covers this nicely. Just because you have the stem squeaky clean doesn't mean that they can't find enough residue to test positive in the vape itself should they decide to really look hard. Some 'back streaming' into the oven is sure to have happened.

My solution was to buy several cheap but usable vapes (Hebe in my case) to take instead. Far from ideal of course but you can take a new one in the wrap out with you, enjoy it, and then dump it. I've even gone so far in the past as to wrap it like a present, complete with birthday card, 'a friend back home asked me to bring to a friend of his' in the city I was going to. Neither existed of course, but it was a ready way out should I have been discovered. You can fall back on 'beats me what it is, a friend asked me to bring it'?

BTW I've given pairs of the cheap vapes to several friends (one to get used to here, another to take and abandon). One guy took his to Hawaii, another on a trip to a nearby country, neither had any trouble finding someone there to adopt it when it came time to go.

The risk can be high, IMO you're right to consider carefully.

Good luck.

Taking an "unknown object for a friend" into an airport is the quickest way to get enhanced security screening.

Always a risk. But if you're clean otherwise and it's a new vape wrapped up is there any real risk? I once brought a second bottle of liquor into Japan that way (honestly a gift of a nice single malt from one of our sales guys to a friend there). I had a unwrapped personal bottle of Brandy as well (only one allowed per visitor). It was obviously liquor, of course (just by shaking), they carefully unwrapped it (Japanese you know), confirmed it was 'only liquor', put the package together again and returned both to me with polite advice to not do it again. More over, they didn't notice (or maybe care?) that my Brandy bottle was the 1.75 liter size, 1.0 being the limit.

I was popular with the client's techs I was visiting until the Brandy ran out the second night. We then went 'down to the bar' to drink a bit on the company. Fun system. You buy a bottle at a huge price which they retain behind the bar with your name (in this case the company) on it. When you come in with friends a lovely lady gets it, has all manner of snacks, ice, glasses and such brought to your table and she sits at one end as your exclusive hostess as you drink and visit. All at no additional cost. Their philosophy is you didn't buy the liquor but rather the ability to drink it there in style. She would pour for all, even in less formal situations you never pour your own drink. If five are there you might pour for the other four, then one of them would stand and pour yours. They believed this prevents intoxication since your friends would never pour you too much. Very fun, but driven people. Smoked like chimneys, took naps on a mat on top of their desks after lunch. They came early to work to clean up, empty trash and boil water to fill thermos bottles for tea throughout the day. Just like a family might?

A risk for sure, but IMO a small one with small 'downside' potentially. Offered for consideration. As always individuals should asses the risks as they see it, their call?

Just stop flying guys! Better for your environmental footprint and easier to carry vaporizers with you. And stop whining, telling me that you cannot go from e.g. North America to Europe without a plane. Generations of Vikings laugh at you! ;)

@OF I’ve done just that, take vapes down. Have a DaBuddha, VapCap M w/Stash and a Vivant Alternate. The Alternate is adequate, but the ArGo really is much better and it’s too pricey to leave there. While my nose is not as sensitive as a dogs, cant smell anything from the chamber and could separate my “box mod” from the stems and perhaps take some camomile with me. Still on the fence, do not want to be a nervous nilly. My driver will have my Alternate handy and I’ll have freshly charged batteries ready when I land. Respect! -YaMon

My ArGo is on the way! Ordered yesterday.

My question is what are to correct burnoff procedures I should take?

I was thinking two 5 minute burnoffs at 400° before even trying to load the glass stem into it. Was thinking of cleaning the stems with soap and water as well.

IMO that should do it. But it's a very subjective subject, many folks cite being more sensitive than most. Some liken it to being safer than combustion by a wide margin anyway and short lived.

FWIW, I wouldn't mess with 400F, wind it up as high as you can? No reason not to......

Best advice is to do it until you feel comfortable? Some look for 'mystery vapor' with a strong sidelight in a darkened room. Personally I too wash glass first (even if it seems very clean out of the box) because it's easy and fast and sure. I then usually swab out the oven with ISO and then evaporate that off in a burn in or two until I smell nothing more than modest 'new toaster' smell at most. With Solo/Air/ArGo I've never had prolonged concerns.

But for sure be satisfied with it's being clean, by your standards.......then enjoy it, it's a good one for sure and you bought it to enjoy not worry about, right?

Regards to all.

Just ordered an ArGo and it's on the way. I have a few questions as a new user.

Will the silicone caps that come with the ArGo cover the mouth side of the glass aroma tube?

Looking to keep aroma on the low side. Are there plugs available for the mouth side to keep dirt out and aroma contained when in a backpack, bag or my pocket?

Looking forward to doing a bunch of research on this forum. Thought I'd start off with asking a few basic questions....

Welcome to the Arizer family and at FC, @roncruiser!

I am, unfortunately, not @OF, but the cap that normally protects the bowl part can easily be placed on the mouth side during transportation. It fits good and tight. I do this all the time. You cannot use the sliding closing mechanism like this, but I don't care for that. Picture to follow...

You've no idea how lucky you are there. And trust me a LOT of folks claim one is more than we really need to be happy, they take time from their busy days to so inform me all the time.......

Glad you answered, I couldn't find my box with the OG caps to check. I use vinyl tubing caps like you show on your battery top personally. They're also useful capping up the bowl end so you can carry and extra loaded stem with you (two caps).

Regards to all.

Congrats, great first vape! @Dynavaper was spot on. Being mostly convection the ArGo is not as odorous as say a Davinci IQ or a PAX, that said what are you trying to hide odors from? That may help us advise you or let you know not to worry? Hope you are thinking about a longer stem and possibly a water pipe adapter. Respect! -YaMon

What about instead of a cap, is there a plug to insert into instead of over the end aside from the foam ear plugs as mentioned in previous posts. Maybe I missed it....

I don't really think that's the reason. Because I 'know' Solo/Air/ArGo is really conduction driven (the 'heated air' is just not hot enough to do the work), there's a lively discussion of just this going on:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-portable-heater-tech-discussion.25914/

And 'real convection vapes', like say the VGs, can really smell worse than average? IMO it depends on how clean it is. Solo/Air/ArGo confines it's stinky stuff to glass stems that are easy to keep clean or 'cork up'? Add something like wood and it gets much much harder to do.

IMO how the vapor and deposits are created isn't a factor, really.

Regards to all.

@YaMon

Thanks. I'm trying to keep the odor from getting out in general. Like if I were to throw it in my work backpack or keep it in my car. Mainly to keep from advertising especially around work folk and colleagues.

The purpose of the ArGo in my eyes is the portability. Take it where I want when I want. If there are precautions to take, please chime in. Not to smoke or be high during work but have it with me and at hand when the time is right.

Maybe the ArGo requires other restraints for keeping the odor from getting out.

You will love the ArGo then. And concerning the smell: It's really not one of those very smelly vapes if cleaned from time to time. I carry mine in a small leather pouch with me all day long (together with a little stash & extra cell) and there is NO SMELL AT ALL (don't test it with dogs) noticeable from it. I just asked my non-420 colleague to sniff at my pouch (yeah, crazy workplace here) and he confirmed that he cannot detect anything suspicious, besides me not showering often enough. I used the device 15mins prior to the test. I bet you are safe.

A small pelican case would insure no odor, except perhaps in the case of a trained animal.

@OF Thanks for the link to that thread, I’ll check it out. I own the IQ and have friends with the PAX, both I find carry more odor post use than the ArGo. I’ll join the other thread to discuss futher.

Got my ArGo yesterday! I love it, but still am figuring some things out.

Should i be taking the stem out of the ArGo oven every time i want to reheat and sesh? For 1 packed bowl I typically start at 370° and do another sesh at 385° later, but inbetween the first 370° sesh and the second sesh, i typically leave the stem in and don't take out the stem and wait for the oven to heat up again before placing the stem in the oven for session 2 like I did for session 1. Thoughts?

Beats me which is best for you. IMO only you can sort that out? Try it 'both ways' enough times so you have an informed opinion and go for it.

Some guys pull the stem then 'hit' it until it cools off to stop vapor, for a host of reasons. Some of us are too lazy to mess with all that (and where to store the stem......). While what flavor is left might suffer a small bit, no potency will be lost leaving it in to cool.

Many of us, anticipating a less than a full (normal) load in the session, load a smaller amount. Using a domed screen makes this easy without sacrificing speed or efficiency of extraction. By 'only loading half as much' you can always start sessions with fresh herb and full taste.

There is no right or wrong way with Solo/Air/ArGo, least ways we've found yet. And we've had @ataxian personally on that quest for a while now without a definitive answer. You can aid in that research if you'd like (he can use all the help he can get......). Pick up a couple grams of something really tasty and get to experimenting.....

OF, can you clairfy a couple things for me please ...

1) What is the VG? Sorry, I'm not up on all the acronyms yet. VG being true convection portable? Much like the Boundless Terra is convection, or more convection like?

2) You mentioned wood. Meaning wood will retain the smell over time?

Thanks....
