Hello! How do I know if my coils are spent? Yesterday I had a metallic taste in my stempod and I think I burnt my coils. I was trying TCR at 225º but I had accidentally set my mod to 220W so I think I may have burnt the coils. Which coils glow the lesser? I also think that the most the coils glow the more metallic is the taste we may need to develop some thick ass high surface coils for this vape.

So here are my thoughts after spending my first weekend with the StemPod:
The StashPod looks great, but it's a little bulky for me and I don't think I will use it that often. Personally I want something that will store the StemPod, my mod, and all my glass accessories. I had waited until the StemPod was on backorder so I could get the improvements in the 1.1 version, so I was a little disappointed when I realized I got a 1.0 version (The air holes have no markings on them). My wife thinks the MPL logo looks like Hebrew. Dan generously sent 6 extra coils, and an extra O-ring. My wife thinks the MPL logo looks like Hebrew.
I got the Wismec Bronze DNA 250 mod to power the StemPod. I downloaded the FCSHARE file and applied it to my mod. Additionally HerbyVonVapster has the same mod, as was nice enough to provide me with the results from his Case Analyzer as a starting point.
I've used a number of different vapes before but the only other vape I own is an OG Air, so I thought TC was important for me. My initial attempts at TC (385 F) produced a little flavor but no visible vapor, I was able to get some vapor when I pumped the temperature up but nothing like it should be for those temps. I also played around with the airflow, and found I prefer either all the way closed, or just a crack open. I am used to sucking my lungs out with the Air OG, so I probably just need some time to get used to a more open draw. The O-ring also came loose a few times, when removing stems. It took a some fidgeting but I figured how to get it back in.
Next I played around in Wattage mode and got great results at 44 W. Really nice flavorful, and thick vapor. Exactly what I was hoping for.
I set up a few different profiles next, using the FCSHARE setting but just changing the coil material settings. I am a little confused between the difference between the StemPod, and StemPodT coil materials but I think StemPod is notched and StempodT is clapton, I also tried the SS316, and SS316TCR coil settings. I didn't notice any difference between the coil settings. Next I boosted the power to 60 W on TC, StemPodT and I saw some improvement but still not as much vapor as I would like. Additionally my coils did not glow on any of my TC attempts (55 or 60 W).
Should I try boosting the power higher, or is there something else to try to dial TC in?
So far I am very happy with it, but I expected it would take some experimentation to get it dialed in. Fortunately I am the kind of person that likes that kind of thing. Thanks everyone for making such a great online community!

On @HerbieVonVapster 's stempod profile I run it at his preset wattage and vape between 410F to 420F. Taste and vapor is at a good balance for me. These temps would seem high to me if it was a regular device but the temps on these mods are all relative.

I tried going up to 420 but found the vapor was uncomfortably hot.

That is correct. Use the stempodT for claptons.
I never noticed any significant odor coming from my Stashpod. Mine is well made and pretty much odor free (well it does smell like wood).
I have been experiencing inconsistent behavior with my Stempod and AF powered box mod lately. I believe that the resistance of my stock Clapton coils is changing. Sometimes my mod will read the resistance at .24 ohms (as set in my AF profile), other times it will read higher...always measured at room temperature.
I'm using TCR mode, and I think that the changing initial resistance readings are causing different behavior in this mode. When the mod reads the resistance at or near .24 ohms it will reach my preset temp of 436F and power cycle to keep the temp reading in that general area. This is the expected behavior. When the mod reads the resistance higher than .24 ohms I get different results. Sometimes my mod will ask me which profile to use, indicating that the resistance measured was not within 10% of the resistance set on my Stempod profile in AF. Other times it will default to the Stempod profile but with higher resistance.
When the mod reads the resistance higher than .24 ohms the mod's temp reading will never reach 436F, and the mod will deliver continuous power to the coils (I have the wattage set at 50).
I think the changes in the initial resistance reading may be an indication that my coils are wearing out. Can anyone confirm this?
No matter what happens I can always get vapor from the Stempod, and I've resigned myself to the fact that temperature control in general will never be able to prevent combustion. I always need to pay attention to the "feel" of the vapor to know when I'm approaching combustion and to cut the power to the mod.

Like the look of the new mouthpieces too - they look pretty similar to my usual StemPod mouthpiece, the DDave mods water tool whip adapter.
Whoever it was asking about concentrates - DDave does a concentrate chamber that fits. I've not actually tried it with concentrates yet but it's very tasty and simple to use with flower.

Really not a bad price if didn't already have a ton of devices it be tempting. Also a lot cheaper to replace just that part if 510 wears out. Makes me more likely to remove device from mod without as much concern if needed.
Only thing that concerns me is cheaper stainless steel might not react right with mods the use a material file instead of TCR. Not saying above links are bad wire (fyi MKWS looks to be a good quality wire) just not to assume there all equal quality. I found even if 316L stainless Steel theres a wide range of quality between manufactures causing TC issues.
I feel you want the best quality wire is the stempod. You heating it up to red hot. I would go with a well know brand something like lighting vape. Or at least research the brand you decide on.

@sickmanfraud yeah that's the right link, guess I saw it wrong. With coils, I'd recommend something domestic. Nothing wrong with China, it's just quality is better over here plus you don't have to wait a month

Running RedPanda on my Espion 200w and am having some trouble it seems.
Im watching to try out the TCR mode with it finally but would love some setting suggestions
Also Im having a problem whenever the temp is set (in this case 385 F) it isnt reading all the way up to that it stays at 70F while the coil continues to glow hot. Is this normal?

You didn't mention your TCR setting.
I believe that setting the TCR too high will result in the mod calculating the temperature too low. This can result in the mod never believing that the set temperature has been reached, and the mod will never power cycle.
Remember that the mod is only calculating the temperature based on the change in resistance of the coil and using the coefficient that you set. Changing the TCR coefficient will change the way the mod calculates the temperature.
I just got my quad coil deck in! It's on my mod and I'm ready to have some fun!!!!!
I think I fried 2 of the coils so it was short lived, but as a side note I built a deck with clapton xl's and that should be pretty fun to mess with. Slow heat up so its weird I let go of the button around 10 seconds and thats when all the vapor starts being produced

4 coils should give more inertia. But it also tends to yield super low ohm builds (as they are in parallel, not in series), which often gives a hard time to the DC/DC converter (super low voltage but super high current, tending to make the FETs overheat)

Then check the "current limit" box, you'll see that in all cases the minimum supported resistance is due to that (physical) limit. The lower the resistance the closer you get to that limit, and for some mods you're already close with builds as high as 0.2 ohms.
