Can someone pls remind me where the term V5 originated (in Hopperland)? It's always been HL's stance that there would not be, say, a Hopper 2.0, but that the Hopper would just continuously improve (?!?) over time, and we'd all benefit, in not having to buy the next new, new thing. Just new batteries!

And I can not recall any talk along the way of versions 1 thru 4. Has there been any indication that they've made additional substantial design changes in recent months, since the shutdown that HL went through last winter/spring?

It's from their most recent newsletter update, from September, where they say "We learned of a hardware flaw affecting a small number of new heating assemblies which caused some issues with new units. This week we are launching the Version 5 internal hardware to eliminate this issue and introduce a few changes to make assembly faster."

You're right, I don't think we've been told about different versions of the body before, just general "we're always making improvements, which you'll get if you need a repair". I take this as part of their greater transparency and better communication lately.

There are barely any people who have got a v5 body yet, though, so we will have to wait and see whether it really does fix the majority of issues people have been having. Fingers crossed, as ever!

Good to hear that newer backends than mine don't engage until the "up-stroke" of clicking them on; that sounds like it would eliminate the issues I've had in the past of the hopper turning itself on in my pocket, when the clicker is pushed to be partially depressed as it jiggles. But my backend is still working, and long may it continue, I don't want to jinx anything!

I purchased a Green Ti in July from a retailer who assured me it was a recent batch, definitely post-shutdown. Even knowing that, can anyone say for sure which 'V" it is? The body has functioned perfectly on a daily basis, btw. I've not even peeked at the heater area below the internal chamber screen.

On another note: Older back ends are able to power up and get to temp even if you only push halfway down on the button, and they would stay on as long as you kept some tension on the button. They could be said to click 'on' on the down stroke (even a partial down stroke). The newer back ends only power-up after fully engaging and then releasing the button (up stroke).

I have a SS Hopper that has been running a really dodgy body for several months now. When powering on, I always (using a 'down stroke' back end) half click first. Then,

About 65% of the time it will go to cop lights, so I back off the button and try again. After 3 or 4 tries like that, it will go to red and heat up as normal;
About 20% of the time it goes solid red (heating normally to blue), so I click on the rest of the way and enjoy. Once working, it will usually continue to power on and off as clicked, through the rest of the session;
About 2% of the time it goes straight to blue, so I back right off and try again until eventually it goes to red;
About 3% of the time, it gives NO lights at all, and I give the Hopper a sharp hit against a solid object, yes, I hit it against a hunk of wood, making contact with the body right near the air intake holes. With this hit - or 2, if clicker is in correct cycle (an 'on' cycle, as this is the kind that you have to physically click 'off' even when the unit has timed out) the light will usually go straight to red, normal heating.
I have managed to limp along in this fashion for about 2 months now.

Btw, I can't get it to work at all with an 'up stroke' back end!!!!!

Both bodies described above function fine as far as temp./abv is concerned. Just lucky, I guess. I'm hoping they hold out at least until their cousin (plain Ti) gets back from the hospital. It's in Continuing Care or something.

I have a SS unit that is behaving exactly like you described. I actually just figured out this afternoon that giving it a wrap kick started it 50% of the time.

I'm guessing there's a forced fit electrical connection somewhere that's either corroded or just not making a good connection.

Thank for pointing to the V5 internals information. Yes, we do hope for the best.
As it happens, I've also had back end that would power Hopper on almost at random and we had to return for replacement, and that was one of the 'newer' style! They sure do keep us on our toes, those of us who are trying to follow along from home.

Today I received a whole new SS unit. We mutually agreed that with the frequency of RMA’s i’ve had (don’t make me go there, please) it was time for an all new unit. I have to say, this is night and day different from what I’ve been fighting with. Comfortable at 3-4 for sipping. Isn’t misbehaving. No combusting. LEDs do what the are supposed to. Finish and fit are right. No concentrated heat (other than vapor path). If they can just produce these things and have them run reliably like this.....

I warped my old feeder, cleaning with hot PBW solution. Bad idea, but it was very clean. Even says not to use hot water in the listing. My incompetence is just sad

Ordered the clear color this time. Like how you can see when to reload. Personally, I don't fear tiny PLA pieces, if there are any, but I know some have brought it up as a concern

Finally got one of these mailed out to me on my bday. Takes a few weeks .. have the pfe version of the snap on case and really like the stuff he makes. Looks to make loading the GH simple. Debated on the night and day version but settled on this one. And 15% off from some coupon. Can't wait!

I've definitely accidentally melted one of those feeders in addition to other ways they get devastated. I feel they’re a consumable product but I will order a few more since i’m back from traveling.

Great window view btw, where are ya?

I received one of my two v5 hopper bodies on Monday and I've been using it hard at 5 with water and my bong with the pfe and it's just like I remember when I first got them and they were working perfectly. The abv is a nice dark brown and I'm saving a lot on herb. There's just nothing like it. Now all I need is to get my second body and I can send them back the 4 duds that I'm sitting on now.

I really hope these new versions hold up I sent my unit back for the last time and took store credit . It really was the first vape that I used less weed with I really liked the vape it was just to stessfull waiting on the failure. I'm going to keep an eye on the thread and hope that vapefiend restock the newer units as they also serviced them if I remember and I might be tempted back. Good luck everyone with your hoppers.

Ok. I’ve been hammering this Hopper all day since I pulled it out of the package.

So far guys, this is the best Hopper I’ve used. Huge hits. No combustion even on 5. It’s absolutely wonderful. Let’s see how long it lasts, but so far I’m going to have to agree with everyone else that has v5 so far. It works amazing.

I think I’m getting my v5 tomorrow. I’m scared to use any of the 5 batteries I have ( bought 2 more so I could use them on the v5 but they haven’t shipped yet )

My Mind Is Free
Hey guys. I had sent my hopper in last year in the first week of December. It came back last weekend, and I have been putting it through its paces for the past week.

Symptoms sending in:
Wouldn't heat up enough to vape herb. Anemic pulls at lvl 5.

Clicker was wonky. I click, nothing happens, or I click, and it blinks for a second. So I'll sit there clicking and adjusting the button until it starts heating and stays on. Then sometimes I click it and it won't shut off, just resets the heating cycle, and I have to unscrew the top for it to reset...

Then it just stopped turning blue. Just stayed red, heating constantly.

So I sent it back.

On return, a little less than 10 months later:

I haven't put her past 4 of 5 in heat. 3.5 is my 5 from before. honestly, that is great imo. Performance wise, couldn't be happier about this part. I'll use heat 5 for concentrates or never.

Clicker.... Still the exact fucking same. I'll have to constantly fiddle with it to get it to turn on or off. Sometimes it just turns on when I set it down on the table, etc.

All I need is for them to replace the backend they clearly didn't bother checking. But I definitely don't want to wait another year or more for that.

So... 10 months gone, and I assume they simply replaced the body part with a new one, and shipped back everything else unchecked. Probably just took 10 months of selling new units to others before they had the spare resources to replace the body. I have absolutely no doubt they didn't even test the device for any other issues before sending back.

At least she rips proper now. I'll take it I guess.

Got my new battery. None hotter. Still rock at 5, still pull clouds, but definitely doesn’t get too hot to native, pulling at low auto shuts off like I’m not pulling at all. Clicker still a pain too. Sometimes click-red-off, click-red-off, click-red-off, click-oh-hey-now-it-works.
Also stays on occasionally when I try to off it. Rotating the clicker post seems to remedy that.
Oi

What’s returnaround like now?

For people with backend problems like "click - red - off" or "click - nothing happens" here is a tip how I resolved these problems:
Look at the inner contact point for the positive battery point inside your hopper body. The first version of the bodys had a golden contact point. Later they started to put solder on it for better contact to the battery. This solder was shiny at first and started to get dark after lots of use. When it was dark I also noticed a dark patina on my positive battery contact.
At this time my problems began so I scrubbed the contact point inside my body with a screwdriver till it was shiny again. Then the errors disappeared. Maybe this might help.

Also a side note:
I ordered a blue spare body at 08-16-2018 and a plain ti body at 09-01-2018 and they are still in progress.... really strange to me that a lot of the fu members already got their spare bodys in the mail. I live in germany so maybe a lower priority??

It was fun while it lasted .. not going through RMA limbo. I'll take it apart and see what's up . Such a shame. Fury 2 mp broke so also down my backup.

Ordered og VC so hurry and send it please George.

Edit:

Took the screen out that I put in.. removed the stock screen and everything is clean. I get the cop lights and sometimes a blue light and upon enhale it gets cop lights again. If I unscrew the body from the backend I get the loud cricket chirps and blue light.... It works? Idk what's going on. All connections are clean and free of debris no debris in oven so just a bad connection. But if I mess with it it works like it should... So I'ma hop along a little longer? Who knows what's going on. Still want to take apart the backend (I'm guessing that's where the issue is..) anyone who knows how to take it apart message me! Sooner or later I'm going in

Follow up 24 hrs later... I just unscrew the back end and click it on and the screw it on to the body slowly until it shows red. Been working like that so that's how I use it now...

:smug:Very happy

I do need to find something more reliable. Or at least figure out what in the world is going on? NOTHING works as well as a working GH :freak: And that brief period it wasn't working was pretty horrible

Alright, I have had my V5 body since Saturday. Since then I have not used any other vapes except for the Hopper. I have used it through Glass, I have used it native, I have used it all the way through a battery, I have charged it with the charger and the nitecore charger I have. I have found that setting 5 is basically a 1 hitter for a bong, and too hot for native.

Settings 3 - 4 are perfect. I get a good 5 - 7 hits from the bowl before it is cashed out. The abv is an even brown and no combustion at all.

My only complaint is that for some reason the blue lights flicker. But I think that the flickering lights is the heater hitting the max point you set it for. So instead of just continually heating, it feathers the pedal so to speak and that is where the flashing lights come from. But I could be making that up.

Regardless, I am incredibly happy with it right now. It is performing amazing in all circumstances and as I said, I haven't used anything else since Saturday to see if I could break it :) So far so good folks. There is hope.

Also, as others have said. Yes this has been a hassle, and a pain. But in the end, the Hopper is easily my favorite vape when it is working. And quite possibly one of the best vapes when it is working.

Yep, every time I come back to my hoppers it's nothing than fun and impressive performance.
The only lack of a working hopper is the hot vapor and device when using it natively.
But...
- it has an awesome design - IMO
- it is small and handy
- it's the most stealth vape of the world
- it hits like a hammer

I love it really much - but I can't trust it anymore. It's a cheating bitch :ugh:

That's pretty insane. I don't really follow this thread that closely, but new they've had repeated reliability issues with the GH.

Is a 6+ month turn around for warranties normal? That right there is reason enough to never buy anything from them in my book.

Good luck hope the V5 remains reliable. I have a hopper that is doing the weird sometimes just flashing red and other times doing the cop lights. After I fiddle with it I can get it to work. I am reluctant to send it in until the RMA processing time diminishes a bit.

How long was the turnaround time for your RMA?

I rarely touch my hopper these days. Every hit I have to fiddle with the back end to get it to work at its full potential and it's really just not worth it. Sounds like not much has changed in the past few months with HL either.
