Firewood Vaporizer

@Soda: do you have a link/source for that info?

https://versedvaper.com/are-ceramic-coils-safe/ I got curious on the issue originally from a comment on a Woodscent review on youtube that said using ceramic coils on vapes at over 400 degrees degrades them if their not vitrified. Most of the info I could find were on ceramic plates cracking at 400 and can’t really find much on vaping elements. But another concern of mine from reading some articles to find how accurate that was, is the fw5 uses friction on the tray but isnt that just rubbing ceramic on ceramic as well creating more oppurtunity for ceramic dust? Idk if what im saying is just uninformed or If just read some fear monger article but I just got concerned and asked

It's an interesting article. "Vitrified" appears to mean to make glass like, correct? It appears to make the ceramic much less permeable to water.

The ceramic trays do not seem glass like to me. I have a small chip on one tray. The trays do suck up water. [EDIT: on second thought, the trays are pretty dense and are pretty hard and perhaps glass like. They seem like a coffee mug and chip similarly or like glass would]

But I also make these observations, and write this, while hitting the firewood 5 many times, in a not too concerned fashion....

I would like to know more though, too....

I think the term "vitrification" in this sense is coming from the pottery industry. I have never seen it used with the type of ceramic used for firewood. However the firewood ceramic parts are all fired to over 2000 F and definitely undergo a change where they become much harder, change color and probably become less permeable to water, but I'm not sure because they are still permeable after firing (a lot of the clay used in pottery is too btw). So whatever you call it, yes the firewood parts are properly kiln fired to very high temps.

The concern with ceramics is overblown anyway. Even vitrified or kiln fired parts can produce hazardous silicates and other particles when they are ground up, but the issue is quantity. People who need to worry are people who are in regular contact with dust clouds that they can breath in - for example people who mine stone, people who grind stone, dirk bikers or anybody riding a vehicle frequently on dirt roads where there is a lot of dust, people who live in desert where there are frequent dust storms, etc. Those people need to use proper protective equipment to be safe. The amount of ceramic dust that can be produced by a vaporizer on the other hand is less than what you would breath in after a slightly windy day at the beach... the beach is nothing but a ton of silicate particles rubbing against each other (sorry a ton is actually a massive under exaggeration). You probably have already breathed in a larger mass of silicate particles in your lifetime than exist in all of the firewood's ceramic parts (and those aren't in particulate form). I wouldn't worry about this, I honestly really don't think there are any concerns with the safety of ceramics in any vapes.

Thank you so much for the reply! This really cleared up my concerns, the devices are amazing so im glad i can vape without worry... although i just now developed a phobia for the beach:uhoh:

Mr. White

Be good or be good at it.
Missing my fw5, its in for repair and will have it back next week. Nice turn around :)
I think as soon as my vrod flowerpot gets here I'm going to send mine in to see if it can be fixed so I know what temps I'm vaping or there about anyways .

What's wrong with yours? Mine would fire as soon as I put the battery in and I had no idea unless I put my ear up to it, to hear the heating element.

I love my fw5. I never used any of the other ones but this vape is beastly. Very effective and efficient taste is really good and cloud performance is also Impressive.

Has anyone made stem milk with the FW5 and do they have a picture of their stem before making it? I'm about at the point/color where I'd usually make it with bigger stems but the FW5 stem is much thinner so don't really have a reference point to where its ready to go. If there's no one with a picture, can someone who got a high dosage try to describe what the stem looked like when its about ready? Im currently at about an Amber throughout the stem with a roughly half inch brown glob .

My FW5 came in Wed. but I've had a cold and only am only really putting it through its paces now. Man, this is a sweet little vape. Awesome flavor. Beautiful woodworking and build quality. Something of a center hot spot problem but I'm not stirring and once I dump it out and don't have the hot-spot to compare to it seems to actually be pretty evenly vaped. Could also push further, haven't taken it past 4 1/2 yet.

Finally got a break (way too many illnesses in this household!) and sent in my defunct FW2 to Marc, for credit toward my FW5!
FW2 was my third vape ever, and was so much more then I hoped for. Even more excited about FW5.

A wooden wake and bake; these two play nicely together:

Very nice scene! Looking forward to getting my MF Escape Pod Stash box to pair with my forest for a similar look!

This has quickly become my go to vape for out and about. Its just so small and pocket sized. Vapor quality is good (not fantatic but good) and its very self contained. This is the vape that i just cant put down atm. My splinter is not getting much attention.

My go to too.... its bigger than a pax, but the smell is so slight. The five smaller bowls are perfect for quick toke and go use.

Hey are there any common issues with the fw5?

About to pull the trigger but I don't want to constantly send it in for repair since I live in Canada.
