Watching/listening to various political TV channels/pundits announce that the latest polls show the dems will be taking back a bunch of seats and Trump's approval weighting is lower than any other sitting president at the same point in time......

Random Thought.....Didn't the polls show there was no way in hell Trump would win the presidency right up to the point where he did win?!?! He who does not know or acknowledge history is doomed to repeat it.

Please don't take the above as leaning to one side or the other...merely a random thought and observation.

A little late on this but pretty much everyone claiming National polls in 2016 were "wrong", is spinning.

National Polls can only measure the popular vote. Those National polls had Hillary ahead by 3%. She got 3% more actual votes. The Electoral College went to Trump by a margin of 70,000 actual votes.

The problem was TV Pundits interpreting those polls.

In any case, I'd be a bit worried if I were Trump. Right Wing Media demonized Hillary for 30 years. She was probably the least popular politician in recent memory, and Trump only beat her by 70,000 votes. I've been to football games with more people. I dunno who the Dems are running in 2020, but I'm pretty sure they will be able to close a 70,000 vote gap. And it doesn't really look like Trump has gained new supporters.

As for this year, all available indications are that the Dems are taking the House. It looks like the GOP will retain control of the Senate, but there's a slim possibility it goes to the Dems.

In any case, it will be nice when the House begins to provide some oversight on this.... "unconventional" Administration.

Hopefully there will be a committee that will investigate how come almost 3,000 people died in hurricane Maria in 2017 in the U.S territory of Puerto Rico Gee I wonder why? It’s called incompetency and lack of empathy. I don’t think that our president right away realized that Puerto Rico was part of the U.S. I think somebody is lacking a few IQ points.

I almost took this to the Fuck You thread.

And he doesn't seem to understand how natural disasters work. He only wants to count deaths that occurred DURING the hurricane. But that only represents a tiny minority of the casualties. And there is almost nothing the government can do to prevent those deaths. After the hurricane devastated the island, lack of power, access to clean water, prescription drugs, and general medical care caused well over a thousand deaths. THOSE are the deaths the Government is supposed to help avoid. By any objective measure, the Federal Government's response to this disaster was a failure.

And the President's response to the updated death toll was frankly disgusting to behold. Even if he didn't believe the numbers, he could've simply put out a statement saying "I've instructed Federal Agencies to investigate these new casualty reports, and to make recommendations on our future response to natural disasters."

That's how any rational adult would've responded. I just find it funny that our President ran on being a "great" businessman. The reality is, if he was a junior executive at any Fortune 500 company, he'd be fired within a week.

Anyone out there in Chile? Was listening to some Chilean music last night and I am really impressed. Looking for more music cool music from South America, but especially Chile and Argentina. Ana Tijou had a good flow, and I really appreciate many of her lyrics. I was listening to a lot of popular stuff like Newen Afrobeat, though. I'm curious about the underground music. :) That's my random thought.

Wait, here's another one:
If I assume the best out of people, sometimes I get burned. What about all those other times? If I assume the worst from people, do my thoughts have an affect on others around me, or am I just a curmudgeon. If my thoughts have an affect on others, should I keep them positive? Do my thoughts affect the way I treat other people, and if so, do I have an obligation to assume the best of people so I will treat people most positively?

If you're into space rock, Follakzoid is pretty good. Seen them once before at Austin Psych Fest/Levitation Festival (RIP).

Not traditional Chilean music if that's what you're after, but the only band I listen to that I know is from Chile!

I'm taking a Spanish class in college to meet the foreign language requirement. I hate this book. It's page 4 of chapter 1 and it has us constructing conversations (I have to look up everything) based on a drawing of a classroom & characters in it.

Part of me wants to write of the girl talking to the teacher with her hands folded in front of her "I need to go to the bathroom because I just started my period" just as a big "fuck you," but then that may set the bar high and/or piss of the professor.

Thanks for the random thought! Never thought of it that way....

Good point on the FC site! FC enforces an atmosphere of "be nice or be warned or be gone". I wish reality worked the same way.

Come to think on it further....since @Stu is the one who mostly enforces the "nice" maybe we could write him in as a political candidate and see if we can put an end to the Not-Nice that has become so prevalent.

VOTE @Stu for "fill-in-the-blank"!!!

Thanks. I had doubts about posting as it's not the most "positive" comment. Ha, yes I'd vore for Stu if I lived in the same country!

I think it's good to hope for the best in people but you have to be realistic. I try to think positively or perhaps more compassionately about others because I do think your thoughts will have an affect on them eventually (as your thoughts inspire actions). I once lent someone a fair bit of money they never paid back. In the long run it's nothing and this guy doesn't have much money so I let it go...Life's too short.

Yeah I've been burned by giving people the benefit of doubt, but more times than not I don't get burned. Plus, learn from mistakes ...I rarely clown with money cause it's money, but my time, the worst I can do is waste it, and I do that already

It took me till I was in my early thirties to realize the power of "No". I was the guy who always said "Yes" when I was asked or told what I'd be doing by my out-laws, in-laws, etc. I didn't want to disappoint anyone close to me. I started to notice that it became expected and that other members of the fam weren't being asked like me, and if they were asked, could decline without bad feelings.

The first time I was volun-told what I was going to do and declined you could hear the jaws hitting the floor thousands of miles away. What really shocked everyone was that I didn't budge even when they couldn't take no for an answer. It was soooooooooooooooooooooo liberating because from there forward I wasn't expected....I was appreciated. More importantly I was treated with respect going forward. The sheer power of the word "No".

I have trouble saying no at work a lot of the time, but in my personal life it has gotten easier. But like, if someone says something that pisses me off, I try to reflect on possible explanations rather than jump to negative conclusions. This is what I mean by giving people the benefit of doubt.

I've been straight up told that if I didn't accept a promotion at work I was fired lol I was the new manager the next day. Oi vey I'm an overachiever so it's just a part of my personality.

Oh, I do flake on people....I used to do it more. Sometimes I still do it...I have a lot of talents and friends want to use my talents a lot, but I don't always have the heart to say "Yo, I'm busy as fuck, and I don't really have the energy for other people's projects right now". My friends would understand, and the ones that don't understand can fuck off. Damn, I'm high as fuck, now it's research time.

Rt1 I’m a selfish sob and have pretty much always been a no man. Which has gotten me a whole lot of ‘why nots.’

Rt2 I’ve been thinking a lot lately that it would be nice to retire. I have bouts of wondering how I’d survive since work is my main place of interaction with fellows of my species. But I’ve been thinking a lot lately that it would be nice to retire.

My random thought is; how many people there are nowadays who simply do not keep their word, if it ain't written down (tied to contract) then you might as well forget it, even then, how often do hear, "its not even worth the paper its written on".... This is a far too common trait nowadays.

Just a quick comment on previous posts re NO!
I say No a lot and like really mean it...
PS; When you say NO, then you should just leave it at that! Cos anything after that is seeking to justify, what you don't have to. Any justification after NO, just opens the 'proverbial' door just wide enough for someone to put a foot in it -and keep it ajar, next thing you know, your hearing yourself saying yes!! Then you're left wondering how the fuck did that happen?:uhh:....

PS:@GetLeft, My friend; if you can retire do so, life is short and you should enjoy it...
As soon as I could, I got out, and believe me I've got 'years' left in terms of 'mandatory' work life, (at least 20+ at the point when I fucked them off) but I wised up to the fact of One Life, so when they offered me an early bath, (i.e. early retirement) talk about snatching their hand off, I took the whole fucking arm...
Yeah so I might have a reduced pension, but I don't give a fuck about that, we don't starve, and I can pay our bills, and I don't use credit, (fuck that shit), my credit card went 'West' into the bin, a long time ago!
I guess I can say I'm doing GREAT and actually mean it.... Growing our own nutrition, tending to our chickens and bees, life can't get much sweeter, pardon the pun, so if you can get away from the slavery, my friend get out....

Trypsy Summers, you sound like you have a nice lifestyle. I really want to retire but can't afford it yet. We own a little peice of land in Portugal and I'm paying my morgage off in the UK. The dream is to retire in Portugal, grow our own food etc. and perhaps rent out the house in the UK to provide some income. I have a feeling it isn't financially feasable and I'll be stuck working full time for many years yet.

I have a thought about portugal. Cannabis is de-crimiminalised (sort of) but growing isn't legal. If I grew my own there would I have legal problems I wonder?
I read they don't treat drug users as criminals but as people with an illness that need help. If you have more than a months supply of any drug they send you to rehab. But I wonder about herb. I get the impression many people go there to live this kind of life so maybe it's kind of accepted?

Portugal is often promoted as a very progressive place regarding drugs policy but still with no "right to grow" it dosn't really seem that progressive to me unless it is pretty much the case in practice.

My friend; life is really what you make of it,
As I alluded to earlier, I was in the system, 'a little Tina Handerson' working like a slave, and I sure loved my slavery, I fucking loved it!...I shudder now when I recall how I felt it was unthinkable not to go out to work, to be a commuter, giving them the best time of my existence/life (up to that point) until I woke the fuck up...
The system has people believing, (instead of knowing) in nonsense, working you to the bone, and when you're done, your cast aside to shuffle off the mortal coil, your best years left way behind in service to the system.

Don't get me wrong, life is really about choices, and what you do with them. I saw the opportunity and just went for it! My friend everything we need, we have, as the saying goes, "knock and the door really does open, ask and you really will receive." These are universal truths that once understood cannot be broken...

In terms of growing Cannabis, I live in the UK and lets just say we ain't really apprehensive about what they want to to deem as illegal, people around our way don't really get involved in being captured,:mental: the women (and men) round here are warriors quietly tending their crops, and living a good life - by living by the Golden Rule, which is the the only law that matters, that is; unto others do not that, you would not suffer to have done unto you...

I guess what I'm saying; is that you just need to raise your frequency, my friend, cos in life you'd be surprised at how little the term 'CAN'T' applies in your life when you work with a higher vibration...

Tomorrow I'm going to be picking some potatoes from the no dig plot, I've harvested some squashes yesterday, the chicken eggs are just excellent, the bees are in fine fettle going into winter, this will be my first winter as a beekeeper (on my own) so we'll see how they go, gotta say they are very defensive at the moment.

So I'm going to go and collect apples make some Apple Cider Vinegar and also collect some opium lettuce to make in to natural painkillers pills. I don't use pills/tablets or anything prescribed from Big Pharma, the closest I get to the state health service is to go and get a diagnosis if needs be, then I go away and treat myself, I think I would only go to the N.H.S. if I needed them to cut something out, but never for any prescriptions and other such poisons, but hey that's just us,:suspicious:

I would not say I'm free, cos in this world that is impossible...However, I can live a life that is free from disturbance and not being under the amount of stress that puts people in Fuckedupsville...
And at the moment, that kinda makes me content...
Nearly has content as I will be when my 260watt 301L Quantum board drops, in a week of so!;)

So yeah its all about that - life:tup:
