Watching/listening to various political TV channels/pundits announce that the latest polls show the dems will be taking back a bunch of seats and Trump's approval weighting is lower than any other sitting president at the same point in time......

Random Thought.....Didn't the polls show there was no way in hell Trump would win the presidency right up to the point where he did win?!?! He who does not know or acknowledge history is doomed to repeat it.

Please don't take the above as leaning to one side or the other...merely a random thought and observation.

RUDE BOY

Space is the Place
Didn't the polls show there was no way in hell Trump would win the presidency

Tv pundits made it sound that way but Clintons loss actually fell within the margin of error for most of the polls... then again She did win the popular vote by 3 million votes so the polls weren't wrong.

I kept telling people that they needed to pay more attention to Micheal Moore but. . .

Every year having to relive 9/11 puts everyone in a funk. I hate anniversaries of horrible things. I know those that were killed deserve respect and acknowledgement but every year! The ceremonies have to be hard for the families and friends.

@CaroleKing, I'm of a different mind. No one is compelled to acknowledge or even care about the anniversary. I think it's important for the families, NYers & Americans to have this acknowledgment every year. And it also initiates the young people who didn't witness this horror firsthand to the realities & nightmare of terrorism, patriotism & the preciousness of life. Every year I watch & re-watch all the 9/11 documentaries. This year was the 1st year that I watched the entire reading of all the names of the lost. NY NBC here did a nice job of captioning the names & pics if available of all the victims. I just read in the paper yesterday that shortly the # of 1st responders who succumbed from illness will surpass those who perished. The victims medical expense fund is due to expire in 2020 & the money may run out before then.

9/11 is a good day to do something to give back to your community. Maybe help out at your food bank or your children’s school. It’s just a sad day to remember.

It’s important to remember those that are dealing with health problems associated with the smoke and ash and make sure they have excellent medical care that’s paid for. Not take away people’s healthcare.

So sad hearing the names of those that were killed.

I just know how hard a death anniversary is.

Sometimes when I'm really, really, really bored I'll look at "our" Facebook page. I'm not sure if this is specific to "our friends" (and yes I use the term "friends" loosely) but I've noticed an increase in posting augmented reality pics. You know.....the pics where folks can put animal ears, animal noses, butterflies, eye glasses, etc. on themselves in the pic.

I've noticed these pics have something in common......aside from the addition of the virtual prosthetic..... these pics wipe clean all the wrinkles these folks actually have on their face. Another thing I've noticed is that these folks pucker their lips like they're blowing a kiss or something a lot of the time. Admittedly some of these pics can be hot looking in a strange way.

Anyone else found themselves getting aroused while looking at a 60+ year old woman, with a fake cat button nose, fake butterflies in their hair, fake purple hair who is puckered up and completely missing those wrinkles and bags under the eyes?

TMI?

Tomorrow is the 15th of September, the day I recognize as the Anniversary of The Day I Stopped Drinking Alcohol. In reality, it could of been the 14th, or the 16th, but I like the idea of "The Ides of September, 1986" : Shakespearian, in a way. In any event, I'm sure I'd be dead had I continued drinking. I salute you drinkers of moderation. I know I can never have an Adult beverage again. "One is too many, and a hundred is not enough."

Love it. I'm much the same except I couldn't tell you even what year I quit - it was 8 or 9 years ago, give or take, and it had to happen. I never did any 12 step program, or had any counselling... just toughed it out. In hindsight that was a mistake. I now realize that I was a dry drunk for a long time after stopping. Sure, I never drank again but instead of celebrating that I resented it. But everything is cool now :D Fuck alcohol a million times more than anything else :myday:

It's tempting to conclude that we live in a world populated by idiots however rationally I know I'm likely to be affected by the same cognitive biases as everyone else so I'm also likely to be one of the idiots. To think I'm not would be arrogant I suppose but still it's disturbing to witness the things humanity does.

It's as if we live in a post satire world where things are so absurd that satire is now idistinguishable from reality.

I should visit FC more often as it's a nicer area of social media where people seem a little more humble and thoughtful than average.

Thanks for the random thought! Never thought of it that way....

Good point on the FC site! FC enforces an atmosphere of "be nice or be warned or be gone". I wish reality worked the same way.

Come to think on it further....since @Stu is the one who mostly enforces the "nice" maybe we could write him in as a political candidate and see if we can put an end to the Not-Nice that has become so prevalent.

VOTE @Stu for "fill-in-the-blank"!!!

SEE WHAT I MEAN? Well played.... If @Stu attempts the "If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve" approach I say we write him in anyway. Now we just need to decide on the office we want him to run for.....

Problem is the two positions I'd like @Stu to consider aren't voted in...... Off the top of my head.....Drug Czar, replacing James W. Carroll or AG replacing Sessions. Would have to convince Trump to nominate him or get Trump replaced. Guess we'll have to wait and write STU in for POTUS.

Why did I chose Drug Czar or AG? Not for the reasons you'd think.....neither of these positions seem to require much time (based on the efforts of these two positions currently) so a little effort would be a step up and it would leave him plenty of time to keep FC running. No way I would suggest sacrificing FC for the good of the nation :lmao:
