This is the best vape ever, for vaping old abv with a little green in it, because you can load a huuuge bowl and get a surprisingly decent hit. At least it's all glass, with a big bong which cuts down on the whole
:puke: part of vaping old abv.

Seriously, I need to get mine going again.
I'm gonna try feeding it og sublimator power when I get around to it :mental:!

Slowly making my way through the thread and catching up on long forgotten happenings in this thread...
I missed that @biohacker was an early adopter but bailed due to numerous reasons as well as many other members. Quite a few stuck with it and received a working unit, most had parts missing.

I am about halfway through so far and finally came upon what i was looking for!!
@GHS posted a video using an EQ basket, my favorite way to micro dose!!

Some great pics of it here:

@Madcap79 Also got into the action!

Then I arrived at all the wiring issues with the heaters and the members that wanted refunds.
It seems that the concept was basically right but the build quality was in the stone ages!
I will be going over my two with a fine tooth comb, my soldering iron and heat shrink tubing!

@Madcap79 Provided a pic of both old and new heater design

Just finished the thread!! It kind of slows down the last few pages with people finding other vapes.
Cannot wait to have these two units in my hands and get the one controller working again!
I still love the form factor, the look of it and the control box.
It would be an interesting project to resurrect this vape with some modifications!

Expect some videos in the future!!

@Melting Pot and others!

The Versa twins have landed!!
Still getting the hang of the working one as it extracts so fast! It's dangerous.

The one controller was not supplying any output but the display worked, I was hoping to be able to repair it. As luck would have it I had almost the exact board to replace it with from an abandoned vape project.
The board I have is 2000W and I have to run it a lot hotter, so I have ordered a 1000W board which should solve that issue! The board only cost $3!

Lots more testing to be done but so far I have serious body stone!!
Goota go, this took way too long to type and getting worse...

Quick edit and I will leave the spelling mistake above, hilarious!
It seems to be running hot at any setting, will have to go over the boards and see what is up.
Or was it really a working feature that you could accurately adjust the temp?
Need some more time with it...wow

EDIT again:
It does work just has a narrow working band, wonder how to increase that...

Yes they are very touchy. Just afew volts makes a big difference. Also how long they've been on heat soaking.
I very glad they ended up in your collection someone that can appreciate what they have.

My collection is dwindling down:cry:
Guess I'll go edit my sig.:bang:

Opening up the Versa's is quite an eye opener...!!
Beta units for sure, no soldered wires, dangerous connections and loose wires inside the box.
I have just ordered some very nice fabric covered lamp cord to replace everything!

The power cable and the heater cables will both be swapped out, with soldered and heat shrinked connections. The wiring inside the box will also be redone and soldered.

I am thinking of eliminating the heater connection and just having a nice length of cable, enough for use with any WT.
Also considering adding an on/off switch to the box so it does not need to be unplugged all the time.

Added an o-ring to the bases so that the main unit does not sit glass on glass.

This is one intense vaporizer!!

Man you voided the warranty for taking off that sticker. Lol
Didn't one base have a red ring?
Hope your enjoying them.
Ill start saving so I can buy one back.
I really do miss them. Even when you don't use something tha ability to just take off shelf and do so is priceless.

Thanks to you now I have a hankering for a 1/5 scale buggy just not gas.

DAMMIT!!! Forgot about the extended warranty! Have an address for me?? That is not your own! LOL!!!

I was wondering what the red ring was for! I have a bag of Solo red o-rings and just used them.
Still amazed that there are two Versa's sitting on my desk!
Cannot wait for the new board to arrive and the wire! They are going to look sweet!

That is a sweet buggy! Losi makes good quality stuff! Expensive but quality!

This Japanese guy has a tricked out Baja 5B with disk breaks and a silencer!

Just wanted to note this:

When changing the wiring, I also noticed a difference between the two heater tubes.
The newer version with the rounder bottom has two holes in the heater tube, one for the heater wires and the other as an extra air inlet. This version is a lot slower in milking and needs to run quite a bit hotter. I run it at 75V.

The older version has one hole only. This version had a less rounded base and milked like a boss!
One major issue though is that the original wire coverings, which were fiberglass, has been removed and replaced with silicone covered fiberglass. The silicone has turned into a gritty dust that lined the heater tube from all the use and heat. Gave it a good clean and it is good to go again.

I have decided to use gold plated RC connectors, so that I can switch heater to different control boxes, assuming the 2nd one works well after the repair.

The new wiring looks very cool so far!

Would be awesome to have a thermocouple in there and run off an enail...

While waiting for parts to repair the 2nd Versa, I tried it using just a dimmer.
The dimmer is the same as used on the E-Nano, rated for 150 Watts so overkill for the Versa.
Works like a charm! Took a bit of fiddling to find the right temp but once I found it...
I may add a volt meter to the dimmer for an approximate voltage to compare to the control box.

I am not sure what it is about the design of this vape but it is dangerous
Two small bowls and I am done! More medicated than I should be at this time of the day...

Some items I still need to take care of:
Rewire inside of control box with soldered wire ends
New power cables and plugs
Add power switch to control boxes

I decided to make the heaters removable, as the original ones were, for ease of storing and service.
Stopped off at the hobby store and bought some high power battery connectors.
Gold plated and they can only be hooked together in one orientation, no exposed metal and the wires are soldered 5mm into the connector. They are designed to handle around 50 Amps continuous so should be good!

Using this vaporizer has proved to myself that I have been right in what I need for an extremely effective vape! Lots of heat and mass to soak up the heat!
It's almost a brute force extraction while still providing great flavor!

Also makes me ramble...

I stepped away from the Versa for a few days to give my other vapes a chance to shine!
Also this thing hits like a freight train, so I have to make sure my days are pretty free...LOL!!!

I have it set at 57 Volts and it is pretty much perfect for me at that setting.
One hit extractions of micro loads done with ease but devastating effects...
ABV is nice and even and I do not even bother stirring, the 2nd hit gets too roasted for my liking.

I am kicking the idea around of converting one of the Versa's to run off a PID with thermocouple.
This would keep it running at a more stable temp over time without heating up during a session.
I am finding that even at a set voltage, it tends to keep heating slightly and the last hit can be very roasted all of a sudden.
Considering that air is drawn through the center of the heater, the TC could be located on the side of the heater, without affecting the air path, depending on sheath materials. Could also be on the outside of the glass stem.

I am really liking the new wiring and connectors!! Still need to tidy it up a bit and redo some sections as the twist came undone...

Love using this vape and it's unique and heavy vape signature!
Wish they were still being made with all the awesome stuff they had in the works...

Does anyone know the function of the small circuit board in the controller box?
It looks like it is mainly used to power the display and serves no other purpose but not sure.
It would be nice to redesign the controller to have more range and be more stable.
Tossing the idea of a small digital Variac as a controller. Stupidly stable power supply that is extremely variable.

So may options and not sure which way to go yet...Leaning towards the PID route for one of them as a trial.
Going to have to dig through the thread to find the heaters wattage!

I think there is so much more potential with this vape in it's current state, just updated electronics and temp control would bring it up!

Versa - blasts through whatever tolerance you thought you had...

Any opinions on what would be a fair price for a lightly used and fully functioning unit?

Whatever someone will pay for it?
No warranty or hope for parts and I have not been able to find a replacement heater either. The control box reminds of the Hex-Nail saga minus the hot glue...
Depending on what it comes with $150 to $200 if you can...
Good luck with the sale!!
