Discontinued Ghost MV1

How's it going with your Ghost, @MinnBobber?
......................................................................
After a couple poor sessions in a row, yesterday brought Ghost success--good vapor production and good med effects.
The small included written manual says to load with "coarse grind" which I followed implicitly. Re-reading all of their website FAQs and info and viewing again all videos, what do I find??
FAQ section says to load with "medium coarse" grind which I tried and that might have been the difference....

1. what grind do most use, med-coarse or coarse?
2. early on, one successful session for me included trying a "ghost first pull" :) , where on first use I let it buzz to temp and go to ending buzz with only a 1 second draw to move the air.
Didn't do that on my recent good session, went directly to real draw. Is such a first warmup needed or of no real value?

Hope the success continues as I was frustrated with inconsistent performance. I was going to show it to a couple folks
last week and glad I didn't as it was not up to expectations then.

3. In all my vapes I really like having an added bottom screen and top screen (keep any ABV dust from falling down into heater OR getting sucked out with vapor). Here too, IMO the bottom crucible holes are bigger than I like. I tried a bottom screen which had no restriction on airflow BUT it was during the "poor performance period" so I quickly went back to stock crucible. Anyone here tried using an added bottom screen, with what results???

Glad that things are on the upswing and hope next session = two in a row :)

Once stock use with full crucible (per Ghost instructions) is dialed in, I'd really like to work on crucible mods to enable
microdosing as many I assist are microdosers .
FYI, I did a screen below micro load and one above to hold in place (like I did with great success in Haze Square) earlier and it was not a success.
Anyone have success with microdose use?

Current success was with 3 yellow light temp to start for a couple pulls, then a couple on 1 red temp, with a finish on 2 red temp. Running stock temp settings.

Hope to keep learning what works best on MV-1.
Any tips from users are always appreciated!!!

I used to use course after playing with prerolls and their high degree of consistency. Now I grind it as fine as a space case grinder allows by grinding upside down for part of the grind time. Preroll is finer.
I like my results. Evenly dry seems best and that is what a preroll is.
This device can over power any not best grind at level 4 or 5.

I'd say my grind is medium coarse to coarse. I have no issue with the size of the crucible holes on the bottom, maybe because I don't use a fine grind.

Mostly I'll do the 1st heat cycle w/o a draw or if I choose to draw, I won't get any vapor just flavor.

I fill up the crucible either even to the top of the rim & slightly above then do a very light tamp down. Just enough to retain heated air when going through the load. I don't stir for the entire crucible if I'm finishing it. It I only take a couple of hits out the crucible, I will stir when I continue with the bowl.

Hope your next session got you vapor. Keep us posted.

@MonsterWithoutBorders, not familiar with the term preroll. Is it just fine & dry?

A preroll is a commercial joint. The best one use bud only and are a bit cheaper than bud. I guess that this comes from trimming. Pieces that are too small to sell as bud. Different companies have different level of fineness for grinds. They are all finer and much more consistent then I can grind. They must use a machine. They tend to be drier than normal flower that u would get. They work amazingly well in the mv1 and are very easy to load to an exact amount. Quick to load. And amazingly consistent results in this notoriously inconsistent device. I always get full extractions at level 3 after a few draws at 2 or 1. When I set it to 4 or 5 I usually only get burnt taste.

how come VC and other reviewers won't give MiniVap a shot? It's been out there since early Volcano times, more than 10 years ago?.. it kind of makes this vape look like a newbie.. how come people interested in the MV1 is not interested in the MiniVap? :S.. it has to be a matter of propaganda I suspect.. MiniVap doesn't get much of that and still packs quite a punch... at least it seems way better tan S&B portables, and way better than this one of course.

I would at least suspect of a person that a few years ago argued the PAX to be his absolute favourite due to portability, look and discreetnes and now is considering the MV1 to be the absolute best… weird

It's TOO big to even be considered a portable. Plus, the thing is certainly not discreet and looks like a bad engineering nightmare.

is the outcome of my "taste and perception" that that person earns money for that review?.. for a person whose priorities are portability, look, discreetness, design, size, bulkiness, etc... I can't see how that person can go from the PAX to the MV1.. weird to say the least.

MV1 and MiniVap they both fit the same niche, still the MiniVap hasn't got one single review (after 10+ years in the market?) from the most important reviewers out there while the MV1 got them before even released…with really high scores in all of them by the way… WEIRD

MiniVap is not even close to the MV1 in terms of performance. It lacks in many categories. Users of the Ghost see that, and clearly do not want a dated paperweight. The Ghost is performing far better than most portable vapes out there with the newest firmware update, mp and tweaks that GV has completed.

So started testing replacement number 4 or 5 (I've lost count). I'm going to lots of testing before commenting. @Summer I might want to send it to you for a second opinion if it's not up to par based on my usage?

I just received a new one yesterday. The black plastic has changed. It's no longer as soft, more of a harder surface on the battery and above. As far as performance, I've been running the devices hot in the past so I calibrated to hot accordingly and then let it rip. The feel is exactly the same as the prior units I've had. Totally on point. I just wish it was a tad smaller and not reflective. I've been walking with the face of the device facing me and the matte black back facing outward. Works, but sometimes my thumb pops the latch which is a little annoying. Been to the shore, museums, malls, parks, nobody knows what this thing is. It's an E-Cig mod yo.

Now that's a bold statement regarding the miniVAP ;)
Multiple miniVAP owner and MV-1 owner here.

Any other owners of both on this thread?
Ghost is the flashy newcomer but miniVAP is damn hard to top IME

Hey everyone,

Bought an MV1 last week on the premise that it would have amazing flavour.

I’ve used it 4 or 5 times now and I still seem to get a “toasted” flavour on the first hit.

My previous vape was a solo and the flavour on the first hit was so much better than the Ghost. The taste I’m getting on the MV1 is similar to that from the solo when the herb is nearly fully vaped.

Has anyone else had this issue? Should I get in contact with Ghost about it?

Hello
Can anybody tell me if Ghost respect warranty and would replace my device in case of a defective unit if I get my vape from an unofficial retailer? Like CL?
I have found a brand new at a good price to replace my ff2 :)
Also, how would you rate the efficiency of ghost versus ff2? if you have tried both?
Thank you very much in advance! This forum helped my get my first vape, crafty and then my second, ff2 and I was never disappointed with my choices.

No, Ghost would not cover from an unofficial retailer:
"nor will any warranty apply to any Device purchased second-hand or through unauthorised resellers. Please contact GHOST if you would like information regarding our authorised dealer network."

Thx a lot for saving my ass. That is sad as I was choked after reading from you what a great CS they have and wanted to get the unit tonight.
It's a brand new unit but considering the huge amount of defective units here I wouldn't take the risk even if it is significantly cheaper ($210 USD)
Apparently some do take the risk. I have seen used one going on auctions on ebay.
Then I might just get a used ff2 again! I know that they do cover it for 2 years regardless of where it was bought.

@Brewervapesalot, what is your assessment of how it's working in comparison to your last unit for which you posted the videos? Don't tell me it's not surpassing the Argo in session longevity?

I'm just not impressed. It's probably the worse of all the units I've had. I'm not evening using it. They supposedly tested it before sending it. The flavor tastes charred really badly. It does not heat evenly and chars the center of the crucible leaving the outside green and/or light brown. It also over heats quickly. I get better clouds with the Argo. I went to update and reset it, and I think the version said 1.3.8. It now says 1.3.4 after resetting and updating. Theres no change in performance.

I'll send it to you if you want to play around with it. It's a $300 plus paper weight. I'm not using it and discouraged to the point I'm not bothering to email ghost right now.

More info please: what temp did you use?
How many hits? Coarse/ medium, or fine grind? How full and how loose/tight did you pack it? ETc

I've used the first three temperatures as I want to taste the flavour. I assume that's the best way to do it at the beginning of the bowl.

Medium/Coarse grind, used the ceramic chamber to scoop up the herb and packed down only lightly. The bowl is full.

I don't think that it should taste toasted within the first rip, so I'm quite confused.

@Brewervapesalot - it sounds like you're huffing on it really hard. The problems you're describing happen on most on-demand convection portables I own if I hit them too hard. And if you're overheating, check your heat sink to make sure it's inserted all the way.

@Gambit18 - I don't think I've ever heard the problems you're having. On your first post I thought you might have it on L5 or concentrate mode. I'd give Ghost a shout...you might have a defective unit.

I spoke with Ghost. They have very good customer service. This is my fifth unit since September last year. All faulty determined by ghost. But some moments of greatness I'll admit. I asked, and they're issuing me a full refund. I offered to pay some shipping. They said no, and sent me free shipping label to return. Told them I'll try their next model.
