Multi-brand Vivant Alternate

I have not owned a mighty or crafty yet have used both extensively. I find the performance of the alternate maybe a little lacklustre in comparison; truly not that big a deal I find. However the whole process of using the alternate over the mighty or crafty is more streamlined ime. From loading the bud, to the heat up time, the adjustable airflow can be used as a carb, and the battery can be replaced when necessary (after every bowl or 2). I temp step 1 or 2 sessions on each temperature for 1 minute at 356, 368, 380, and 388 so that means I get 5-10 solid minutes of vape time from the same bowl of 0.10 - 0.20g. I find this dosage to be just what I require most of the time. I own 2 of these vapes (a sign that I enjoy using the vape). I could have bought 1 crafty for the same money or the best part of a mighty and I do not regret my purchases 1 bit. I would rather own 2 semi reliable decent performing vapes rather than 1 with damn near the same performance (ime) with less features. And don't even get me started on the crafty's battery issue :/

Hopefully not too dumb of a question.. I've been going through the thread and it seems that the V3 is the latest iteration, is this correct? Is this one finally working? I got an open box one for cheap, and if I can just buy the top cap and turn it into an OK vaporizer it would be awesome. Thanks you!

The unit itself will probably crack eventually but the v3 top cap seems to hold up fine. You could also just buy a waterpipe adapter from delta3dstudios that could double as a mouthpiece.

Thank you for the info! So far I haven't found anything that points to a "Health Risk" from the unit or the mouthpiece cracking, but I just recently started to read about this vape so I don't have the full context yet. Do you know if there are known or suspicion of health risks? I can deal with cracks as long as health wise it is ok. Thanks for the help!

I don't suspect it's unhealthy. Zero off taste or smell and I've been using one for quite a while now off and on.

Hey, what battery should I get for my Alternate? I have had the device for over a year now and the heat up time is slower than it used to be. Still using the original battery. Obviously I will need an 18650 battery, but I am wondering if there are different batteries that wouldn't be good to use with the Alternate.

I stick with Sony VT6 or LG HG2, they are overkill for most vapes, I like them because I can use them in any vape without worrying if they are large enough, both are 3000mah and 25 amp draw+.
I recall reading somewhere that there were some batteries that are 1mm larger than the rest, which could make the vape crack faster, have you heard anything like that?

After getting a unit that has never really had a top cap on for extended periods of time I think the top cap is what makes it crack. Time will tell I guess but it's so hard to actually lock the v3 cap on this fresh unit I could easily see how with heat and time the plastic would crack.

Maybe the lack of topcap helps to dissipate the heat better as well? I just got my Alternate and Vivant actually sent me a replacement v3 cap right away. I am about to test the v3 cap for the first time this weekend, but I am actually quite exited for it. Despite its flaws on the v1 cap, I was pretty happy with the performance. I get the historical baggage that the vaporizer got, but if the v3 cap works properly, this seems to be quite a nice vaporizer. How are you linking/disliking yours?

@DataRocks Can't wait to hear your opinion, I purchased mines and never used it because of the negativity.

I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised. The vapor didn't feel harsh , although I topped at ~410. I did some burnoffs, and I was still getting some plastic taste after the burnoffs without material inside, but once I put some material inside it was actually very tasty. Honestly I do not think it will replace my vapcap, just because I am more of a micro doser, but it will definitely be part of my rotation. If I find an effective way to microdose I might end up using it more. I also need to buy more batteries because I feel it went really fast through the battery.

My Alternate fell off a bench on a dock in Lake Tahoe and the battery door/cover fell off and into the lake, so now I need a new battery door/cover. They're only $1.99 on their site, but it doesn't make sense to pay $8 for USPS priority for a part this small. I need to call Vivant on Monday unless someone on this thread can help me out and send me an extra cover that they have. I'll pay for postage or whatever. I don't consider myself cheap, but $8 for shipping a cheap plastic part that can probably be sent in a standard envelope, I wanna see what my options are.

I'll preface this saying that I feel that vaporizer communities feel a lot like "car enthusiast" communities, where the community will "forgive" a lot, as long as there is engagement from the company and the company tries to "do right" by their customers.

Questions on Alternate:
Although the topcap is in V3, the body is still v1 for most (all?) of us, are there any health/safety concerns for the v1 body? I have heard comments of people not using their Alternate at all because of this concern.

Feature Asks:
- It would be great to get loading capsules for v1 body. It would be great to get a capsule holder
- It would be nice to have a desktop companion app to upload custom settings. Maybe configure temp paths like the IQ does?
- Having a vibration motor in a v2 body could be great.
- Different colors and materials for the v2 body.
- USB-C connector for v2 body
- It would be great to have a "Boost" mode for on-demand draws.

Great things about the alternate:
Engaged customer support ;-)
With the v3 topcap the vapor feels very smooth and cool.
It has a great size and form factor.
The click-on grinder is a great idea, but wish it was more of a funnel for my other grinders.
It has a removable standard battery, please keep this.

Good things:
- The beep and heater light indicator.

Things that do not feel as great, but not as bad:
- Battery life, I understand the physics constraints of the battery, but I think my unit my slowly trickles the battery down when OFF.
- The included brush lost bristles on day 1.

Bad things:
- Uncertainty about the body. Read several posts of cracking (I know it might be a vocal minority), and I baby my unit so I hope it lasts a long time.

I have wanted to purchase an Alternate for quite a while but I am still put off by the problems with the cracked body near the battery. If the body was made of a new/different/better plastic I would get one. It seems Vivant was able to fix the cracking mouthpiece problem so surely the same could be done to the body.

Hey together,

Thank you Vivant for my replacement alternate!
So to anybody Vivant will take care of you if the alternate body got a crack!

I love the alternate and I loved the grinder till one of this lil rods in the top of the middle part of the grinder was broken and fell into my bowl.
I didn't realised that and vaped this acrylic part, which was melting!
That was really bad, tasted like burned hair or so.
Melting acryl!
Can't use this alternate no more.
So in this case vivant couldn't replace the alternate.
They said it wouldn't be unhealthy to use it for the future 'cause the alternate only got food-/medical grade materials.
So the grinder is food-/medical grade.
I can't use it anymore cause the taste.
But my girlfriend's with the crack will get replaced.
My idea for the V2 alternate:
A Grinder/filling tool what is withstanding over 220° Celsius.
The heating channel should be removeable like an battery pack with contacts instead of cables.
Anybody knows if the fumes from food-/medical grade acrylic are toxic?
Love and Peace

Sorry to hear your problems, not replacing it is just slack/poor customer service, no wonder PIU will not stock/sell them anymore. It was Vivants shitty plastic part that broke and has wrecked your vape, they should replace it. I was almost going to purchase one as they have seemed to have finally fixed the cracking mouthpiece, not now.

I think the Alternate is a great little thing and i would buy it again!
But I would recommend to use it only with stainless steel grinders and not it's own filling tool.
I mean acrylic grinders aren't too bad if you take care that no sand is getting inside of it, as filling tool ok, but I would never use a material what isn't withstanding the highest temperature of it's device.
So acrylic isn't the solution for an filling tool.
And yes you can say that it isn't my fail that the acrylic rod got into my bowl.
I never overfilled the grinder and used it without sticks and seeds.

Personally Ive been using the Alternate for awhile now and really the main thing I would upgrade would be the body of the unit. Make it like the Fenix/Force unibody type Aluminum coated with plastic? Will keep the cost low and IMHO it would be a big winner.
