The Nomad From Morwood

Have read some stuff about accus and their developement.
Dan, wouldn't it make sense to use 20700/21700? They nearly need the same space but probably have/will have a better performance potential (in the future)?
I vote for LiPol as well as for other safety improvements. I’m father of 4, including 2.5 yr boy, so these numerous 18650s and unprotected device are PITA to me. And yes, I vote for more mAhs.

After all the discussions on joint sizes of the Splinter I'd like to know the size of the Nomad. 14? 18? Or a special size?

Dan’s post, below, indicates 14mm OD and 11mm ID. This was from several months before release, but I don’t hink he’d have changed it at that point in time. I’d measure one, but I’m away from home with no ruler at hand.

Stock stem size is 14mm Glass tube with 1.5mm thick walls.

This gives you an internal diameter of 11mm for the chamber. Depth of chamber is adjustable to whatever you like.

If this doesn't work for you, an alternative is a custom stem with 2.2mm thick walls. Giving you an internal diameter of 9.6mm. A 27% difference in surface area.

If this is still too large. I would recommend a custom chamber tip made from SS or hardwood. Cut to your exact dimensions. These stem tips will be inserted into the end of the stock glass mouthpiece, using an O-
Ring connection, and will allow for both custom bowl sizes and different materials.

An SS chamber will take longer to heat up, but so long as the walls are ~1mm or thicker, will retain enough heat to give you a small amount of conduction heating.

A wood chamber will augment taste, but give you better insulating properties compared to glass, which may slightly increase heat up times.

Chamber tips can be pre-loaded and switched out on the go.

I have no problem working with you to create THE perfect bowl size/shape/material for you.

With the double-screen, nothing falls down ever. It's always self-contained. For sure it adds a single extra step when loading and the same when unloading, but come on, we are not that lazy! After a session the screen cools down super fast. I just use my pinky to remove it (it's super close to the edge, you don't need any tool) then I can blow the load out or use anything to stir it out. I never touch the second screen, it always stays inside the stem.

I like the idea, or the theory of it at least. But can you really remove the screen with your pinkie finger? In my own instance, being a somewhat larger person, with large hands and feet (and all you ladies know what that means...uh huh...large shoes and gloves!) there's no way my pinky is going to be able to remove the screen from such a narrow stem. Unless...maybe...I grow out my pinkie nail like some of us did back in the early 70's in order to indulge other...uh... "past times". So what to use...something unobtrusive and easily portable...maybe a stubby #2 pencil with eraser still in tact? Any ideas from those of you who aren't using the screen in the body arrangement?

Nah you don't have to fit the whole tip inside, just pinch the edge of the screen against the glass (it should be nearly protruding anyway for maximum efficiency, as the closer to the heater the better) or yeah use the tip of your key maybe? We always have keys in our pockets no? :)

You could also grab few of these if you need a quick drop in option. Going try find a shorter stem for use with them. 2 fit perfect in the little vials home depo gives away to send a water sample in.

When I use vaporizer out and about tend not to bother saving ABV. So tend just blow the out of stem well still warm.

There’s some discussion of this earlier in the thread, but I believe the conclusion was basically that they are too new to be easily available to everyone or for Dan to rely on the sizes and performance of cells he could try to be exactly the same as future versions, and while the sizes seem very similar to 18650s, there is a large enough difference that the Nomad would have to be larger to fit them. Plus a lot of people in this community already have 18650s.

Dan did leave the door open, so it’s possible he’ll make them in the future, but right now he’s still working out the issues in the first version and trying to get through the waiting list, so it’s probably going to be a while before he can work on that if he decides to do it.

Thanks, but meanwhile market has changed. There are more of promising 2x700 batts everywhere available at the market.
Do you use old 18650 with your Nomad? Not worth to pair it with virgin ones? ;)
And it's probably going a while too before I'll get my Nomad so i's time enough for improvements and changes - I don't hope the design.

The 14 is not my favorite. But Ddave has a great set up for both size stems. I use his stems and screens for all my vapes that use either a 14 or 18mm stem (the preload pack comes with everything). The ones I get have a narrow end that I use with a bubbler or whip but that's not necessary. Also if you check out the website that goes with the MVT you'll find some other great products for 14mm stems. It's the only 14mm I own. I tried tophats and they just didn't work as well for me as either above.

So these will fit?

The Mistvape stuff caught my eye wonder if the wooden wong would fit?

Decided to take my nomad camping next week. Put together a little travel kit for her.

If the Nomad is 14mm the Ddave 14mm stems will fit. I like the prepack because I like to make sandwiches with a screen below and above the flower and the packs are set to do that. The MVT stem is also 14mm so the wood one should work as well.
Also if anyone likes to use a whip, the one I use with 14mm stems came from Alan. He has some great accessories including different stems. He's pretty good at responding if you just email him and ask for what you want. Don't know if that's changed since he's busy with the iHeat.

The Nomad is not a tapered 14mm joint though, so the only way those stems would work is upside down as a GonG I believe. That 14mm diameter is like an Arizer straw tip, so not quite a perfect match for tapered joints. I can test what stems might fit when mine finally arrives

Thanks I been working with Alan on getting my iheat order together. He just sent me a picture of a 14mm glass stem. Going have to get one and make sure it fits. I like the look, and having a built in screen seems like a good ideal.

I'm confused about what you mean about it not being a tapered 14mm joint. The part that holds the flower is standard 14mm diameter. It only tapers on the other end of the stem. The only vape this hasn't worked on is the fury.

Yeah I just mean it is not the same size as Mist or HI stems, like Kero said. I will test with all the variety I have but I don't expect much... That one looks pretty damn nice though @HerbieVonVapster! I do love internal fixed glass screens more than steel mesh

@szai: I don't know, the Samsung 30T and 40T are still super pricey ($20 a pop on imrbatteries) The LG HG6 is sweet but it's a 20650... Fasstech no longer sells the original Sanyo's, only tons of crappy rewraps...

It's still a bit early and we now have 3 competing sizes and no clear winner (20700, 21700 and 20650) That last one is a good compromise for compatibility: just need a spacer cylinder but no length extender. Would be easier to support for the Nomad but as said before, the body would have to be thicker.

I don't know when you guys started thinking it was 14mm but it clearly is not. I posted comparison pictures earlier when imgur was still working. So here are the direct links for reference:

Is it 18mm or a non regular size? The MVT is 14mm but the HI is 18mm so if neither of those fit it must be a unique size. Otherwise one of Alan's or Ddave's will fit. The MVT won't fit 18mm.
Mine isn't coming until the end of September and my I heat will probably come then too so I suspect the best stems will be identified by then.

The Nomad does not use a glass on glass connection for the stems like those vapes though. As Kero said it is just a straight tube held in place in the wood collar with O-rings above the heater module, a unique design.

Kerozen do you think that would also not work with the Nomad? Kinda was hoping it might.

The 18 and 14mm sizes you mention refer to the tapered end of the glass stem, which doesn't fit in the Nomad because the Nomad doesn't have a tapered fitting like Milaana/MVT/etc etc.
Any stem to be used in the Nomad will have to be a straight tube with parallel sides/outside diameter(size currently unknown), unlike the iHeat/MVT stems.

I don't know the OD of Nomad stems, but once we do we can look for tubing or 'straight' stems that will fit.

To use the Nomad with a bubbler we would need a stem with one straight end (size currently unknown) to fit into the Nomad, and a regular tapered end of 18 or 14mm to fit into the bubbler.
(other sillicone or whatever solutions will also be possible , but lets stick to pure glass solutions for the sake of this explanation so as to avoid confusion).

Personally, I will be sticking with the supplied stem anyway as I found the glass screens that I tried on my Millana (420EDC top hats) let a little too many herb particles through compared to regular metal mesh screens.
If an appropriately sized stem with a finer glass screen than the 420EDC top hats becomes available, or is discovered, I would certainly try it though!
And I will deffo try the 420 top hats that I already own, even though I'm pretty certain that they will allow a little too many scooby snacks through for my liking, just like they do in the Mi'.

I hope this clarifies the situation?
Let me know if I've erred.

Loads of posters beat me to it
But I'm gonna post anyway
