I've got an air core cherry dog that has been running almost nonstop for a few years. Recently the o ring wore away and broke off. I miss using my glass stems and wondering what I should do

Send a message to @underdogette and she'll get you squared away.

Do it ASAP if you can because she'll be gone for the weekend and then most of next week.

I gave up on the o-rings. I also use glass stems, but I put the "basket" (screen) in upside down so the flat side is up. Basically my "stop" now is the top of the herb. Every once in awhile I get some fluff in the metal heater pipe, but this has been working super well for me for over a couple of years now.

I imagine it helps to have a variable voltage power supply as well. It pretty much makes the height of the herb in the stem sort of irrelevant. Its easy to set the voltage to accommodate your chosen herb level.

Freaky thing happened today. I lifted the lid to the toilet and found a toad swimming around in there. Yup. I'm in the US, not a third world country. And I hadn't even burned one down yet! Sadly it was NOT my imagination!

Does the difference in power supply have any impact on vapor quality (travel vvps vs. adjustable 3-12v)??

Also that power supply is suppose to be 3-12v adjustable but in the pic the knob goes from 1 to 10, so can I assume lv. 1 = 3v and 10 = 12v?

Definitely don't assume that. The useable range is somewhere between 4-6 on the dial, maybe 4-7, and that span covers 3v-12v. It's very stable though (compared to the old skool dimmers). I can give you a rough idea of voltage readings on mine a bit later, I checked it when it arrived this week with my Micro Dog but promptly forgot and meant to do it again so I could mark the dial.

Speaking of my Micro Dog, it's just beautiful, my first figured walnut piece! I'll try to get a good picture of the family this weekend in daylight to share -- room lighting really doesn't do my Micro justice. Thanks @underdog and @underdogette for making Micros available for those of us who have a hard time justifying another full-size dog but have serious Underdog FOMO. :D

Okay, took some quick readings on the new variable power supply, but I've also been getting to know my new Micro for the past hour or so...so...

At the 'on' click (which is around 2 on the dial on mine), I read 3.2v, so I was wrong in thinking it 'kicked in' around 4 on the dial (but that's not the useable range, so maybe I was not wrong?)

Six and a quarter (6.25) puts me at 11.4v, which is a great spot for me on my most 'modern' dogs, through water. On a native/direct-draw stem, I'd maybe aim for Hard Six, a bit higher if you draw hard.

At 6.8 or so, it's maxed, hitting about 12.5v, demasiado caliente, combustion on any of my dogs through a NonG stem. Anything from there on is the same, voltage doesn't budge. Might be okay for concentrates, is that hot enough on a Standard Core 2 for wax/shatter/dabs? Hope someone can chime in.

I'd say starting at about 5.75 would be a good starting for a new power supply and a new dog. Tiny nudges until you get to your right place, being careful above 6.5, watch for charry flavours. It's not as small a range as it sounds, the knob is really smooth and sits where you let it go.

Like I mentioned just above, this power supply seems really stable. Once you set your useable range, so long as you remember it or mark it on your dial, it should be bulletproof for quite some time. I think it's pretty rad that it's part of the Standard Kit for new dogs now, but they might want to consider adding some tips to the description to manage expectations.

Damn I have to use a vvps at like 13.5 for me on my dog. 12 just isn't hot enough for my liking. Is my ud not running hot enough? Very interested in a micro dog. I like the faster heat up time. I'm so impatient and don't want to leave my ud on all day. So when I get home I feel I'm waiting forever for it to heat up.

If you can get what you need at 13.5, it's running hot enough, for you. :)

I run my full-size dogs around 5.5v when I'm not in, turn 'em up to 11.4v when I get home, and they're ready by the time I settle in, ten minutes tops, and they're good all night. The Micro does heat up quicker from a cold start, but I wouldn't use it as my daily driver, they warn that it might wear quicker than full-size logs. The lower-mass core might not keep up with heavier sessions, too (though I haven't had a problem yet with more or less back-to-back hits).

Hey Dogs, we'll be traveling for the next couple weeks so internet will be spotty and our response to messages/emails limited and/or delayed. The shipping office will still be open though so there will be no delays on orders or anything like that.

Wow that's kind of awesome, at least it would be for me since I have a strange affection for toads.. I think they might be my spirit animal at times lol. Or it could be my exessive exposure to the mighty Hypnotoad. :brow:

Thanks man glad you like it.. the Figured Walnut is really, really nice. Like shouldn't be a Vape Special (but is anyways) kind of nice. I wish I would have stockpiled a few more tons of it when I had the chance. Enjoy that Micro!

Thanks for that I'm sure other users will find it helpful. We're still playing around with what we'd like in a simple, robust power supply that we can include in the Standard Kit without breaking the bank. I think we're on the right track here so far.

Not uncommon or anything to be concerned about.. I'm guessing it's an older Dog? We've slightly tweaked the specs for our heating elements a few times and have slowly made them hotter and hotter at a given voltage. Not a good or bad thing just different spec. :2c:

I have an mk2 heater core. So it can't be that old. I think it's 2 years old

Strongly agree. No wall wart, the knob feels good, the housing doesn't get hot, seems to feed Underdog cores really cleanly. Over the last couple of years I've gone from straight wart to wall, to dimmer+display dongle, to Travel VVPS, to the new adjustable, and while the Travel VVPS is definitely my favourite (and it's still available as an add-on, bad ass), the new one is a lot cheaper and plenty useful. I could chuck it into a bag for a weekend (or just an afternoon) away and not worry about it at all.

Edit: while I've got you and just remembered that other post upthread about o-rings, do you have the spec handy for any of us who might want to source replacements? OD, ID, material spec...

Are you using an extension cord to the log? Might be time to swap it out, I find when mine start getting on in mileage I have to creep up the voltage over time, intermittent connection I guess. If it's feasible, try it without the extension and see. But if the number isn't a big deal to you and it works at 13.5v, that's all right too.

So how long approximately do you wait till a new one heats up? is th 15v necessary? i found out that the ud i was using was so thick that it needed the 15v and vvps to get the temp i needed for it. I like high temps and like that i can do trates with the ud. will i need a 15v to do concentrates?

They're generally ready to take a hit or two after maybe fifteen minutes, there's enough heat in the core by then, but I tend to have a much nicer experience after about a half hour, when the wood is toasty to the touch.

As for the voltage, I can't really answer, but I've never had an Underdog that needed to be run above 12v. Even my older walnut air core, and then the standard core Mk1 that I had Underdog swap into it, were a little too hot at 12v. But I only use them with flower, and only with steel-tipped stems (which run hotter than glass ones do). If I was using concentrates through glass stems, I could see needing a bit more heat.

Thanks! Can anyone confirm their dog getting hot enough for trates with the 12v?

Just a quick update on my original UD. It's now been on for over 4 1/2 years straight (minus about two weeks) now. About 6 months ago the core started getting loose. It still is loose (no twisting though), but it still works as well as it ever has. I bought an xmas vape special for when this one goes, but I haven't had a reason to bust it out yet. With the amount of herb it allows me to conserve, it has paid for itsellf so many times over.

Fucking thing is a beast.

My dog is going on two years next month. It has been on from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM most days. Its the best microdosing vaporizer that I have found. Im sure my dog has paid for itself by now.

Gotcha, thanks. We have made the heaters a bit hotter in that time frame but every generation has its hotter or cooler running Dogs as well.. just the nature of heating elements. Sounds like you have one on the cool side.

You can start using one within 3-5 minutes but 10-15 is better. For highest performance 30+ minutes is ideal as it gives the word time to be fully heat saturated too. Most people don't need villages over 15v but with a cooler running Dog and wanting to use 'trates you might need the higher voltages.

Thanks dude! Yeah I think they pay for themselves in not too long a time for many users.. especially east coast users or people in other areas where material is expensive.

Finally got around to trying out concentrates.

I ordered some PHO wax. I just put little bits in my stem along with my bud. Mostly using the oversized NonG stem for this.

I'm really liking it so far. Definitely gives the bowls an extra kick (and I'm not using very much).

Would like to try live resin next.

Hi again Dogs.. next month is September and as usual will bring about our annual Birthday Sale.

Leading up to that I hoping that we can get some of you to post a picture of video of your Underdogs, in action or a 'glamor shot' or whatever.. cool pics or video that we could use (with your permission) for the upcoming season. Photos/videos selected would of course be credited to you (unless you want to stay anon) and you'll also get a nice big store credit to put towards a new Dog or some Dog Toys. :brow:

Feel free to post them here or on any of our social media accounts or contact Underdogette if you want to DM them to her instead.

Thanks and have fun!

Yo! Firing up my old underdog and all i can find is my nylon stem but its so clogged. Any suggestions on how to clean it. Its so tiny in there. I ussually just light a lighter under it and get the flame in there and it burns a little opening for me to rip it haha.

Drop it in a jar of ISO then use a few q-tips or pipe cleaners and clean it like you would any of your other vapes.

Pushing out the screen and running an ISO soaked pipe cleaner through the stem works for me when they're really bad. . . otherwise just soaking in ISO then rinsing under running water does the job.
