I wonder if you soaked it in water and then wrung the excess out before inserting it, if that would cool it even more? :hmm:

,
Exactly what I was thinking...

@SpudBob
Do you find you can rip through a stem faster? I find I can ride the edge right up to near combustion, but not combust, still not hot or harsh. This is also easier on the battery, but if you're not paying attention, you can get really high.

Great day in the shop coil building. I got 50 wires tinned, 50 butt splice connectors prepped, 25 disks drilled and 50 anchors installed. That might have taken a few days a couple of months ago. My skills have improved, but so having figured out the best way, as well as having the right tool for the job - these three things have sped things up considerably. Thank God the toolage for this work isn't too crazy pricey.

I'm ready to form some coils.

Hadn't really noticed. Wetting the hemp may cool it but may, also, change the effect/taste of the vapor too! Try it and see!!!

I was able to extract the entire microdose (loaded until basket screen full) in two or three huge hits, a quick stir, and one more. This wasn't about sipping while relaxing, but rather rapid extraction. Between the LB 2.0 power and the hemp fiber smoothing effect, I was ripping away. Here's the Lil' Cherry beauty.

Wow she's a beauty. Amazing how the light differance in photo changed the look. I was like wow really like first one. Then realized there the same one in both pics.

Imgur
Imgur is done, even pics that were showing with the work around are not. I am officially using tinypic. I guess this is affecting every thread on FC, which is now imageless. What a bummer.

I'm going to have to post pics with every new post just to catch up. The below Lil' Bud is a Two-Face. One piece of cherry, totally different on the right and left sides. One side is rather *bleached*, very light cherry, the other dark cherry. It's a keeper.

Tbh i would love some loaded Stem pics. You can find out amazing things from a used loaded Stem pic i suppose (eg load depth, level of extraction, distance from mouth tip, etc) :sherlock::sherlock:

Let's get some pics uploaded for all those FC stalkers checking out the LB thread. I love the idea of loaded stem before / after pics. Yes, you can tell lots and lots from the stem, which I have always felt is half the vape (thanks @Alan).

My results were about that... 8 hits/ sips or so. Nice even dark brown ABV in the end. But the game has changed for me with hemp fiber filters. Only drawback I can see if FASTER EXTRACTION, but that is what I love about it. There are some things that I questioned at first.

ABV dark brown to black. Almost no ABV left in the end. I can crush a stem in 3 to 5 hits, and there is next to no ABV left (not worth keeping). This filter has allowed me to get closer to the fire, so to speak, but not combust. I know I'm not combusting, but there is a bit of a taste loss.

It's not for everybody, if you like 8 or 10 nice tasty hits, stick with no filter. I started this when my in laws were over and I needed to slip away quickly, and didn't want to cough. The vapor is full, still tasty, but somehow smoother. Not 100 percent sure why - cooler, less particulates, but freaking crazy potent. I feel like I'm getting 10 hits in 3, battery lasting all day. First time since Denver, I'm almost too high. Lil' Bud with hemp filter is a super extraction tool. I think that the better coil, reflective heat from the ss, as well as the 3 amp switch have all contributed to the potential power boost as well, as well as a little more suction / resistance with the hemp fiber.

@SpudBob method is awesome. I kind of twist up a nice piece, bout an inch long, not too tight, and then cap it with a basket screen. I've got about 3/4 of an inch of filter. It is remarkable how much this changes everything. I think it actually absorbs lots of heat because the unit is staying really cool, even with a new battery on long hits, no feathering - just gotta let go ( breath and button) at the right moment.

I use the filter on my Glass RBT stems especially the short ones. Its just too hot for me without. So @Bravesst what I REALLY like is my @Alan Koa WonG with the 8mm glass liner. Did you get one of these from him??? The 8mm size and glass/wood combo, IMHO, is the best. I don't know if its the reduced diameter or the wood/glass combo but it really improves Ryans unit. Im sure it may have a similar effect with L.B. I broke the original 3" glass tube in the WonG and replaced it with a 4" stem. May not have the exact effect with L.B. as inlet/heater/mating surface not same, as RBT "M", but highly recommended to try if you got one. If not I'm sure @Alan will hook you up! Just sayin!

The hemp filter is not without its issues, however. Tougher to keep the screen clean for sure. And when I decided to pop it out, it was so caked up, I just tossed it. Could have cleaned it, but got lazy.

Not sure if everyone vape profile will produce the same results, but below are my pros and cons list.

Hemp Filter Pros and Cons
My Pros
Cools
Smooths
Allows bigger hits
Extracts faster*
Improves battery efficiency
Hits harder
No coughing

My Cons
Bit of work to set up
Bit of draw restriction
More work to clean
Little less taste
Shorter sessions*
Getting closer to combustion - not really sure if this is a con if I'm not combusting, as the vapor that hits my throat is cooler, and the stem is the only thing that's hotter (even the unit is runner cooler). I guess I can try and pull back on the sweet spot, but that is where the rapid extraction takes place. It's almost a *swoosh* as the oils turn to vapor.

Neutral
ABV darker

*Extracts faster and shorter sessions are two sides of the same coin

Got pretty lazy today, not sure why, but after one of key pliers (small flat nose) broke (self opening spring fell out), I decided coil forming could wait. I've got 20 soldered up tennis nets ready to be turned into coils, another 20 plus wooden bodies together. Probably gonna up those numbers before I assemble. Looks like I'm attempting to build some inventory. Not sure if that's possible, but speed and efficiency are really coming together, as quality improves as well. Having a little LB iventory is probably the best way for me to get going with Timber.

Awesome starting get excited about this. Can't wait see more pics

Now this strain is abit harsher then average so I tend to take less long draws. I personally find all strains vary in abv shade and extraction quickness as well. Thanks for the fun showyourstem challenge @Zabou !

The abv looks really good in those pics. I do find with avb it also depend on the user. My friend always hits the milaana causing tunneling. My comes out perfect.
The picture shows me this device is extracting very well and that what matters.
Thank you posting them.

I don't know if this is the case in those photos but Do know that P.A.M. does stir during sessions. That CAN make a difference. Maybe he will chime in!

I just had to chime in, been putting a small piece of vape cotton, very small sliver off the stuff, all fluffed up , into the stem about an inch down from mouth end of stem. Push a regular head shop screen on top of that so you don't suck out your filter, good to go. Oh boy the extra small amt of draw resistance added because of cotton and screen makes the lb way easier to hit. Gotta be something about the screen cotton set up is regulating my draw speed/force calibrated just right for the lb. Moral: a little bit of filtration ( cotton, hemp, piece of doggy toy) with a screen on "top"of that in your lil bud mp changes the way you hit it for the better. We likey. Improves performance even. Our humble opinion down here at the Lab. Cheers, and thanks Mike for the filter idears. D

@SpudBob , yes I do stir every few hits, as seen in my videos. I stirred after the 4th hit in these pics. i use my rounded off battery safety tab to stir . Works great as a stir tool , I love its double purpose .

I found the same increase in performance on the Milaana by using a smaller diameter mouthpiece. 8mm instead of 11/12ish I.D. I think its the sweet spot for the Milaana anyway!

I adjusted my hemp filter, reduced volume by about 75 percent. Now I kind of have a lose thin layer I push down to the screen from the top, not much at all. Draw resistance *slightly* affected. Taste virtually unchanged. Sessions back to sipping, longer, but still no coughing. Searching for my sweet spot, or maybe it'll change from day to day. @SpudBob I'd like to try and tapered stem (@Jill NYC ) as well.

Got a new flat nose pliers coming, so later this afternoon I should be able to form some more coils. I love this little mini flat nose. It is flat and thin, with no serration, kind of like a strong, flat, tweezers. Perfect for flattening out little bends in the coil, as well as getting into tight spaces for a twist. I am not at my best without this $8 (on amazon, nothing is $8 in New York) tool.

Switch Testing Complete
I've been at it with all three switches before I commit to one and build 25 units with it. Even though I made the decision a few days ago to go with flush round, I've been testing that switch hard. The hemp fiber has helped my push the crap out of it, without coughing. Results seem to be super positive, the switch staying cool, while allowing all the amperage necessary for superior vaping. Ahhh... Sold prototypes can now ship this week. I still have 2 available ($169 with stem / shipping).

I guess while I was testing switches, I was also testing everything else, including all 2.0 features. On the unit I've been pushing hard, the ss foil was installed a bit differently, tweaked a bit. I think this is keeping the heat in the coil, as I crush the button on this unit and it stays pretty cool. I'm impressed with what a tiny piece of foil can do. I think keeping it tight to the wood, not allowing heat to slip up behind it, might be key. Either way, it's cranking, and cooler.

I haven't tried the hemp filter ideal. Seeing the post here going have to give it a try. Maybe I just stick a small fluffy bud in the stem :) Humm got me thinking about THCa. I wonder being away from heat might pick up some form the bud in stem?

Wonder if could fit one these in the stem? Mouth piece always needs cleaning around the top. This be nice for sharing and keeping area where lips contact stem clean. Maybe cut half or more of filter off till you find right air flow.
Cloud also keep inside of wooden stem clean.

Wow. this is getting to be a science project :science:, THCa?

@HerbieVonVapster
It might keep the upper stem clean, but below the screen gets gummier.
@DirtyD
I really like the micro-filter concept, kind of the best of both worlds. Back is that signature taste and longer sip sessions, gone is any harshness or hotness.

Forming coils, got 10 done. I was struggling a bit, as I waited for my 5 inch flat nose pliers to come. Some coils went together so nicely, others needed that special adjustment that only the flat nose can give. I went back over all ten once the tool arrived, but barely used it. Just having it on my workbench makes me better at coil forming (there is a certain zen in that).

Here's a documentary on THCa amazing even the raw plant has such great medical value.
Watch how it helped person in the video. Well worth watching.

I even made a batch of green dragon without using heat. Figure couldn't hurt.

https://www.cannabis.info/en/blog/the-life-she-deserves-2018-doc-review

Sorry kinda off topic there.
Just watched the entire video. Great story. I am blown away. Ironically, I'm a certified / registered medical marijuana user in New York state. I'm actually waiting on my registration card so I can make my first trip to the dispensary. To bring this back into topic, still no flower in NYS, but I plan to add a drop of oil to an occasional LB stem. Looking forward to it. Also be nice to partake any time, any place. Hopefully they'll have flower soon.

Hello boys and girls...

I've got 19 coils formed (don't ask on 20). Not bad, considering sometimes they bite the dust. One day I've gotta take a pic of my *coils that never made it heap*. It's about 1/3 of a large coffee can full - maybe 25 or 30. Mesh has memory when rolling / forming. If I don't get it right on the first try or so, or at least close, it's an uphill battle after, and really not worth it. Sometimes I'll struggle to rescue mesh that's gone astray, but since I'm well stocked on all raw materials, no reason to struggle.

Time to assemble and get some units shipped out. I'm going to assemble 10 / ship, assemble 10 / ship. I have a couple of switch failures to repair as well, but way less than I expected. So far I'm 100 percent good with the larger switch - no issues.

So with the switch settled, I plan on continuing to build, sales or no sales, and build a bit of inventory. I don't plan any changes beyond this point. After some stock is built up, I'm going to focus on Timber. That should get up and running without a hitch as it shares the same inner workings of LB.

I did learn a couple of things along the road to batch 7. Finish has come a long way, not only are the edges uniformially rounded, but the round switch goes very well with it. In addition, I saturated the wood bodies with beeswax, to a ridiculous level, also hit each unit with some 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper. The finish has deeper, richer on my cherry unit, which seems more durable finish wise. The rounded edges, especially the back plate, are a pleasure to hold.

The hemp fiber has helped me immensely, especially in testing and pushing the unit. But personally, I'm finding just a drop of hemp, pushed all the way down, is hitting my sweet spot, giving me plenty of taste and a bit of a cooling effect.

I'm predicting this assembly will come together pretty quickly, everything, including back plates, is done. Just have to build safety tabs, pics, and battery compartment bottoms. All very easy stuff.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Looks like you are really digging the hemp fiber going need try that. Can you recommend a source or type I should look for?

I guess it being hemp you could even revape the filter. Could be away to reclaim some goodies.
