What’s up with imgur?

As has already been said, repeatedly, in multiple threads.

The forum admin is the only one who can do that. He is not currently active. So it can't be done.

Replies have said the administrator is the only person can fix the Imgur problem, nothing has been said why we can`t just upload directly.

I really don`t give a toss about Imgur, I just want to know why we cannot just upload directly to FC, no other 3rd party dickheads with their stuped rules that keep causing theses sorts of troubles.

I just told you, there's nobody here that can change the forums to allow us to upload. Any major changes need administrator permissions. The only guy who has them apparently tends to vanish on a regular basis and is currently not around.

allowing uploads is a bad idea. makes it to easy for script kiddies to hack the site
there's ways to embed stuff in uploaded images and have them run as PHP on the server, maybe XSS vulnerabilities, but there's ways to avoid that. Anything can be made with security holes if you're not careful enough

a nice way to implement image uploading from within the forums could be something like imgbb, or any imagehost that has a "plugin" for forum software.
XenForo is listed here https://imgbb.com/plugin
and it seems easier to upload directly to imgbb and get the bbcode, than with imgur. However, they have the exact same "don't do anything" terms as imgur.

postimage also has plugins, but not for XenForo

Could implement or look for an open source image uploading software like imgbb, and host it separately from the forums

Just to be clear...the forum admin = the forum owner. Not currently active = he ain't really been around for the two years I have been a member and image process is only one of a number of issues that Vtac has ignored.

By the by, I'm pretty sure that the owner makes money off of this site, but it does not seem like he is willing to invest in its upkeep and improvement.

I doubt the owner makes anything off this site. No ads. No sales. Best thing is the few freebie vapes the 'testers' here get from the manufacturers for promotion. Maybe a kickback from the site sponsors but I doubt it.

And, Vtac signed in here and posted earlier this year. I think March or so.

He'll be back and all will be fine.

Maybe we should just call him. His phone number should be listed in the whois. So many easy ways to fix this problem. Not really a big deal. Wait until the database crashes... not THAT will be a big deal. LOL

That does open another option. If someone or a group of someones wanted to take over this forum, they could buy some space and time from you and a valid copy of Xenforo. Then, all then need is a backup of this site and they could move the forum. They would still need access to the server's cpanel to re-direct the name to the new server.

It is definitely a puzzle. But, not an unsolvable one. Access to the server cpanel would be pretty cool. That would certainly open a few new opportunities. LOL

Almost there...
It occurs to me that perhaps the "fix" I mentioned will only work on the "fixers" pc. :hmm:

To test this, can I get a quick survey of who can/can't see Cyberguy's cat in this post? Thanks in advance.

:peace:

I SEE THE CAT, I SEE THE CAT, I SEE THE CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D:cool::brow:

I ran the Firefox script add-on and as I mentioned earlier, I SEE THE CAT!!!
It's been a royal pain, especially in PM's with images not showing up.
Hopefully it gets fixed soon for everyone!

Thanks @Stu and @pakalolo

@PoopMachine I'll see your, "since the 90's" and raise you a dial-up BBS running Wildcat from Mustang Software. LMAO

That's fucking scary to even think that far back. LOL I hosted my first board in 1986. I can't even remember that far back. Dial-up? OMG, we have come so far, haven't we? I can remember watching screens paint left to right. LOL

One thing about the computer hobby, it's always something new.

So, I'm sure you can help. You are obviously knowledgeable. And, I saw some other posts from peeps who were obviously not new to a keyboard. This forum is running 1.5.13. I didn't see any exploits for this version. I tap the admincp every now and then with a new password attempt but without knowing vtag, I'm shooting blind. Anyone know the name of vtac's pets? Children's names? LOL j/k

Unfortunately, the domain info is under WhoisGuard, Inc. so there's nothing there. You might contact the abuse support but you might get a ball rolling that we can't stop. Call them in Panama? LOL There is an encrypted email address but I'm not sure if it simply goes to whoisguard or if it's forwarded to vtac. It is listed for tech contact so it's worth a try.

Sooner or later the big bomb is going to drop. Something should probably be done, or at least attempted before then. After the bomb drops, all you can do is pick up the pieces. Been there done that for sure. LMAO

Oh, you want pissing contest? I was running two BBS systems in 1983, one using TBBS (TRS-80) and one using PAM (Apple][), but I installed my first computer network in 1970 using BTAM to link TWX machines. This is not my first rodeo.

If you think we are ignoring the problem or aren't aware of the potential for disaster, please disavow yourself of this notion. We know how to contact @vtac. Right now, he is not responding.

ROTFLMAO..... The TRASH80..... You know, there are STILL clubs of people who use those things Fucking cult. I never had a TRS80 but Tandy got me later on with a 1000, was it a TL1000? Been too long. The DOS kernel was on an IC on the motherboard. LOL I guess they figured DOS6.2 was the top of the line. LMAO Like Gates said, we'll never need more than 640k of memory. Not as long as we stick with DOS 6.2

During the TRS80 days I had a Texas Instrument TI-99-4/a. Another one who put the OS on a chip. In this case, it was an open expansion slot. When you think of it, it was a giant thumb drive and the OS and the games loaded there. We used cassette tape in those days to store data. LOL

Hey bud, never meant to say no one was trying. Just, not succeeding.

Salutations PakaLolo,

Who wants to blame the owner, as long as FC's domain name ain't allowed to go expired by October 26, i guess:

So, who's left around today who knows what has lead to this "MIA" situation exactly? Any hints which might justify the eventual sinking of VTac's FC ship?? Like a mutiny preceeding the VA migration, for example?...

:worms:

Also, has there been any new retailer/advertiser approvals since he went MIA last spring?

It may help to dissipate some of the related confusion as observed once in a while. As if FC became a convenient source of "free meal" where to host lame 3rd-party mercantile links, using multiple IDs and other fake strategies... Which is most regrettable for decent members, if it's actually what that is like.

Good day, have fun!! :peace:
