I have a crafty, and it's the same for me, but i don't think it's a problem. The abv in crafty is more dark than the abv of volcano, also if i use higher temperature in volcano, and I think that is due to mixed convection/conduction system of crafty/mighty that is different frome pure convection system of volcano. I think convection is better, more efficient, so the darker color of abv for mighty/crafty is a drawback, like a burning principle. In other portable vaporizer like pax or airvape xs, the abv in detinitely black, like burnt.

Thanks Nicola, but I actually just had a breakthrough! I KNEW there was something fundamentally wrong with what I was doing, just was not getting the results that other people described.

Now folks, I have to beg forgiveness here because I am 100% positive that someone, somewhere on this message board has instructed us to do what I am about to describe. So my apologies to whomever I am not attributing this to.

I went back to the regular easy valve chamber without the reducer, used .25 g of herb and then squished the liquid pad on top of the herb before shutting the chamber. I am now getting massive thick opaque clouds of vapor, more than I ever did before!

I’m actually flush with herb right now, but if I wasn’t, I would seriously consider revisiting my entire ABV jar. There is DEFINITELY a ton of leftover THC in that jar.

The reason I got the idea to try this is I was using the dosing capsules to make herb/kief/herb sandwiches, but the herb on top was literally bright green. So instead, I did away with the herb on top and used the liquid pad on top of the kief and it worked fantastically! This gave me the idea to try the liquid pad directly on top of the herb.

Now they know if this works, I was considering putting a screen in between the liquid pad and the herb so that the herb doesn’t stick to the liquid pad. The herb brushed cleanly off, but maybe it would’ve been cleaner with the screen? Not sure, I’m going to mess around with it and see what I can figure out. Anyone else do this or have any suggestions?

Hello there,

After 3 years with my Crafty, i bought a volcano Classic with both solid and easy valve systems. It definitely needs some practice to be efficient, but I'll practice! I have some questions...

Is it better to install the liquid pad on top of the grinded herbs in the chamber? I know this is a popular advice with Crafty/Mighty.

Is it normal that the chamber of the solid valve is just lying on top on the vaporizer (no "clic" or whatsoever?)

Is it better to fill 1 cm of herbs and then inflate ballons as you need them? Or better to put just small amounts of herbs for one balloon, and rinse and repeat?

Cheers,

@Baron23 Out of curiosity, as I respect your opinions, why do you use only the highest temperature instead of starting lower and stepping up the temperature that other people discuss?

Sorry to get back to you so late, I overlooked responding....cause I'm an idiot! haha Still want to ask me a question? LOL

I run high for a few reasons:

1. with concentrate sandwiches, I run high because I want the 'trates to vaporize quickly and not more slowly melt and migrate. So, I run at 446 F and that seems to work for me.

2. With just flower, I find that running thick bags at 446 does not result in vapor too harsh, for me at least.

3. With just flower, I used to often run at 385 then bump up until I started looking for a reason to do this and couldn't find one.

4. I'm a med patient and vape mostly at night for pain relief and sedation. I'm not into fucking around and I'm not looking for "functional/creative/up" highs. I want to get stoned and stoned now.

I can put .25 g in an Easy Valve chamber and pull two good bags at 446 F and if I try the third bag there really isn't anything in there....so again, why go lower.

Just me...we are all over the place with our preferences in this and some other areas. Do what feels right for you.

On the subject of AVB...IMO too much credence is invested in AVB color. What makes it green is chlorophyll...not cannibinoids. As mentioned above by another poster, the Mighty (which I also have) is hybrid and IMO its the conduction portion of it that makes the load, particularly with a LP on top, so even of a coffee brown color.

IMO convection vapes, in general, yield lighter AVB than otherwise and if I drive one to darken the AVB I believe I quickly hit a point of rapidly diminishing returns....there just ain't that much/nothing in it.

If you want to know what's left in your AVB....well, you can always try smoking a bowl of it, yeah?
Cheers

Yes its normal for the solid valve to just sit on without a click. Definitely one of the downsides of the solid valve IMO, though I imagine for someone with limited use of hands it would be helpful.

Personally I've tried putting the liquid pad on top with little to no difference. I don't pack down the herb at all though and don't add concentrates or kief which is what I seem to see most people do when using the liquid pad on top.

As far as how much to put in, that's preference. I like to pack in a decent sized pack so I can get 2 separate sessions out of each pack...less work but if you do small packs, new every session it probably tastes better. Just a preference thing mostly I think. But when running 2 sessions i always kick it up 1 full setting on the dial for the second pack. Like first run at 6.5 and second at 7.5. Find what works best for you!

I started with a volcano about a month and a half or 2 months ago, now have an arizer solo and xmax v2 pro as well, it's been fun getting into vaping - not to mention feels a lot healthier.

Thank you so much for the detailed response, it is much appreciated. I am a meds patient as well, so I have similar goals, but unfortunately I do have to use during the day time as well, so the faster the better!

...and this running 3 and 4 and 5 bags that people discuss...I just don’t have time for that! I have three toddlers! So I made a bag about 50% longer than the regular bag and that seems to be the right amount of vapor for me to be able to get down in one session. If I do two regular size bags I never get to the end of the second bag in time.

And I would particularly like to thank you for your discussion of the ABV color (you too @Nicola !!) You’re right, I am paying too much attention to it and that’s stupid. Of course it’s chlorophyll  Thank you for breaking that down for me. And I can’t even blame the pot for making me slow! That’s just my own natural stupidity...

Nah, man....even knowing this, light green AVB still makes me nervous. I've heard it called Volcano Poo because its just characteristic of that full convection vape.

Now, my EVO is also full convection up I can drive the AVB to be pretty dark brown...but I really don't think I'm getting anything more of significance. Others like to do otherwise. Its all very personal.

Best of luck and glad to try to help as others helped me.

Cheers

Just an update:

Still loving and using my volcano daily after a few months. Some of the other shiny new vapes do make me wonder some times, but im completely happy with my volcano.

Also a bit disappointed. When i ordered my magma, i inquires about the clear magma and was told that there were no plans to restock it again. Would have much rather waited for the clear!

Also as some may remember i had been keeping my volcano in the garage due to my girl not appreciating the smell. Well yesterday i brought it inside while she was at work and ran through a chamber. I didnt really notice any overpowering smell and there was no complaints when she got home! Still not sure how it would work out smell-wise if i permanently left it inside but its a start!

The same. I was waiting for the clear version, then i ordered normal version and after few days the clear version was available again. Fuck!

My Magma arrived yesterday, but i can't secure it on the volcano chamber. I have watch the video on their site, but something is wrong. Any advice?

Does anyone think the Magma/Obsidian might put extra stress on the Volcano’s fan? I”m guessing it would be minimal but i still wonder about it. I’ve had my eye on the Obsidian for a while.

I was wondering about the clear magma, but as you said it was out of stock, although the video I saw was pretty convincing about how much extra junk the extra chamber catches that the magma doesn’t ( i’ll see if I can find video ) And honestly, $50 difference over a lifetime (or until I break it) is worth it for an extra filtering step.

On a separate note, does anyone know where to find a long handled version of the brush that comes with the volcano or the mighty? I’ve tried searching on the Internet but the search terms are too nonspecific and don’t pull up what I’m trying to find. I don’t need that exact brush, just the same kind of idea. I’ve been using kids painting brushes but I don’t like the idea of the synthetic brush fibers accidentally ending up in my lungs...

TL;DR: Long handled volcano/mighty brush?

I think mine is doing this as well. It flashes for less than a second when I plug it into the socket. However, it works just fine after it’s warmed up and ready to go.

You talk about obsidian, not clear magma, i think. Clear magma is standard magma in glass, obsidian is different. I have seen te same video from volcano tips, and i don't uderstend the value for an extra filter. I mean, i want that the most vapor possible and most active principle goes to my lung, i don't want filter because in my opinion all that is filtered is wasted. It's no smoke, no combustion, only good vapor! So why filter? Maybe i'm wrong, but i don't understand.

I would look around for an appropriate sized boar bristle detailing brush like these:

Yes sorry, I meant that I had been considering the clear magma but decided to order the obsidian because the vapor still has particulate matter in it that doesn’t get you high, it just irritates your lung tissue. So any extra filtration step is a good one. Here’s the video I was thinking of…

The quality of extraction is impressive. I have been using it for one week but I love it so far. With cautious quantites, I did what was writtent here and in the user manual: vaporize it, put the temp up, grind the materials, then vaporize it again. I managed to get decent results 4 times in a row (the first bag of course being the more potent). So in a quantity perspective, this is very impressive.

My friend just lend me his Mighty while he is away, I must have used it 3 times last week. Didn't touch it since I recieved the Volcano. It's good, but it's just that the Volcano system is perfect for me. Worth every penny.

Sorry @Nicola I was high when I responded last time and didn’t realize you said you had already seen the video. Yeah, the stuff that gets caught in the second chamber is not the stuff that makes you high I believe. I have mild asthma, so I value the extra filtration chamber. Even if I am losing some of the THC to that filtration, having cleaner vapor is worth it to me.

Even so though, I’m not sure that any THC really does get lost… Would any more experienced board members like to chime in?
