What’s up with imgur?

I can't get tinypic to work for me. I'm using it on a PC. I created an account & uploaded a couple of pics, then I click on the pic & enable Adobe (I have it set to disabled), I see all the codes to grab, but when I copy either the IMG code for forums & message boards or even the direct link for layouts, nothing happens when I past it in my post reply here. I don't know why? I would use it if I can get it to work.
Hmm.. I have used it on my desktop before. I don't think the process was any different. I mainly use my mobile (which takes the pics).
I don't have an account, the advantage to having one is being able to keep all your pics together (I think that's it).

I simply;
-Navigate to tinypic.com
-choose file & click 'upload now'
>There could be a CAPTCHA at this point, if so fill in response
-wait for upload
-once complete, a thumbnail will appear and viewing this image in a new tab (long tap touchscreen, right click PC) will present just the image with a URL ending in .JPG
Eg. http://oi68.tinypic.com/mc44l0.jpg

Pasting this URL into the image URL link (it's a button in the FC forum post format options [after smilies]) will then display the image like so:
mc44l0.jpg

Happy to clarify any of that if need be.

Also, I really dig this cheap, high quality bubbler!

@MoltenTiger, I went to my account & right clicked on the image, copied the image & posted here & got a thumbnail pic:

29c2hqp_th.jpg

I then clicked on the thumbnail pic on tinypics & it opened up larger & then right clicked on the image & got this:

29c2hqp.jpg

When I clicked on the thumbnail image & the pic enlarged, 4 links like on imgur appeared. I copied them individually & none will paste in the image insert dialogue box here on the format bar. Don't know why, but don't care as long as I can post pics.

Thanks for getting me where I needed to go.

It really sucks that it requires Flash to work in 2018.
Their anti-spam code thing for uploading without an account just doesn't load for me. Maybe it's my ad-blocker.

Even when hyperlinked directly to the image file on Imgur, when formatted correctly and clicked on, it will direct the user to imgur. Tinypic images behave normally and expand to full size when clicked, keeping traffic at FC. It's much, much better.
Not the way I've been doing it, since I was getting the direct link to the image from imgur by right clicking and copying image url or opening image in a new tab. (edit: then i type the bbcode img tags, or i paste it after clicking the image button) I just tried out their function to generate image links that is buried in a menu in the top right user dropdown menu, images, then the view image info dropdown, generate image links. They have an option for linked BBcode, which is what you describe as redirecting to imgur on click. Just need to choose the other BBcode option and this won't happen. It really isn't as straightforward as it should be.

Also, TinyPic are a "Photobucket Video & Photo Sharing Company". Yeah, remember what happened with Photobucket?
TinyPic requires flash for the links, has unusable HTTPS, pasting the direct link to the browser URL bar redirected me to the image page, and it also isn't straightforward enough, or Summer wouldn't be having trouble with it.
i'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has, and that they also haven't pulled an imageshack/photobucket.. yet..

that's a lovely looking set up!

FWIW I generally don't bother with any of the available tinypic settings, I find a landscape image at its default size works reasonably well.

I have had an issue with rotated images rendering in different orientations on different devices, that was on my old iPhone, though it has happened with my Sony on Android.

I have uploaded off iOS many times, I don't believe there is any reliance on flash - it should work on all mainstream devices without any additional installations. If you do the steps I listed above, it's very simple... it's just a case of directing oneself to the source image before linking into FC. Which worked with Imgur just as well, but that requires more steps to achieve - and won't work with FC anymore - and not for a particularly good reason

There's other alternatives, I was using image locker or something like that, but tinypic is my go to just because it's so easy once you know how, and it seems like a friendly enough website.. who knows, I did look around before settling on it though

No idea what the problems are - never used Tinypic before a couple days ago, I don't have an account or anything, I just browse to the image, do the spam thing if it pops up, then take the 'layout' link and use the image posting link on here.

Your exact steps don't work on my PC, why, who knows? The login connection is not secure & Kaspersky won't acknowledge the saving of my login. Next time I do get the enable Adobe I'll post specifically what it says.

@asdf420, posting a direct link into the post reply box from imgur very rarely worked for me. I had to post the BB code in order to get the pic to show.

I flagged the mods & asked if they could move the all these posts regarding image-posting over to the correct thread so others can read them.

You don't post the direct link straight into the post reply box from any image site, you have to click the Image link at the top of the FC post reply box (8 in from the far right) then post the direct link into there.

Or use their IMG code if you want to paste straight in.

These are my exact steps I just did, didn't ask for spam code this time. I don't have Flash enabled, I do use Adobe reader, I'm using Chrome as my web browser.

I don't log in and I never, EVER let any browser or addon save any of my passwords anyway.

http://tinypic.com/
choose file - navigate to the pic on your pc
upload now
copy the 2nd one down, 'IMG code for forums & message boards' and paste it straight in.

Listen, @Skunkport, my layout isn't the same as your's. Maybe because I made an account??? When I log in I go to Your Stuff & see my pics. There are 2 links, RSS Feed & URL for Email & IM which are blacked out with no code. I then get the 'do you want to allow Adobe Flash dialogue box.' (I do have Flash enabled so I don't know why it's asking me, but I don't have Adobe Reader enabled as I use FoxIt.) I then enable it & then the 2 blacked out fields show the links. I then click on the pic & 4 fields showing the links appear: URL for Email & IM, IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards, a Direct Link for Layouts (direct .jpg) & HTML for Websites. This is all I know & I'm sticking to it. ;)

That fix suggested by Pakalolo works great on Chrome. I was getting very frustrated not seeing any photos and could not understand what was going wrong. Thank you.

Imgur (and all other hosting services.).. including photobucket appear to be working for me.
With Imgur, simply stop using direct link, and use the BBC code given.
Here is a picture posted at 3 sites, and they all appear for me:
From Tinypic:

From Photobucket:

From Imgur:

Using the BBCode from imgur doesn't work for seeing my pix unless I use the browser addon that @Summer linked to. Using Firefox and the addon I see pix from imgur. Using Chromium browser without the addon I see no photos from imgur, including those imgur pix just posted by @Vitolo.

Link to my test post: The Sandbox: Make test posts here. First two are hosted on imgbox.com, the last one is hosted on imgur.

Edited to add: I just tried out two more browsers I have installed, Falkon and Konqueror. No photos hosted by imgur are showing.

It's the same thing, but the BBCode has [ img ] tags around it O_o

It makes sense to just paste the BBcode as text. The image button can take a direct link, all it really does is put [ img ] tags around it.

This is a direct link, which becomes an HTML a element (a clickable link) https://i.imgur.com/n7YOjdN.jpg
the forum automatically adds [ url ] tags.

This has the img BBcode, so it becomes an HTML img element

Code:
 [img]https://i.imgur.com/n7YOjdN.jpg[/img]

I have logged on with 3 computers.... on different IP servers.
My Mac, an ancient G5 mac, and a new HP laptop. I am seeing it on all 3.
I have had local friends try...
a few said they did not see it at all, but 3 said they could.
The three that could see it, all report using Google Chrome.

Edit:
I uploaded this one from an outside computer, and when I got home.. I can see it on all 3 computers.

I'm also using Google Chrome. I couldn't see the Imgur picture.

I do see the picture in your last post, but that's probably because it's now cached. It appears in the first post now too, because I have that picture cached.

It's not a problem that you can solve by changing how you use Imgur.

Imgur have changed, not you, not the forums, Imgur.

A mod has outright told us that Imgur are not allowing direct links because the classified section makes us count as a selling site.

Sorry, I think I missed a step where you do indeed need to click on the thumbnail before right clicking to view in a new tab, that will give the full resolution image.
That's what I get for relying off my 'memory', glad you figured it out :)

This is a direct link, which becomes an HTML a element (a clickable link) https://i.imgur.com/n7YOjdN.jpg
I'm not seeing any of the Imgur attempts..
What I have done the times I have come across broken links that obviously contain awesome pics, is navigating to this URL like you've posted.

I get an error message visiting that site. What I then do is delete the 'i.' out of the URL (so it spells http:/Imgur.com/X.jpg, and this then loads the Imgur website with the picture as the top image

Using the URL https://imgur.com/n7YOjdN.jpg (note the edited out 'i.') with the FC forum Image link button seems to be a viable workaround?

(It didn’t work. I could see the image on the device that posted it, but not from a different device. It’s deceptive but imgur is purposely broken. At any rate, a workaround would pose imgur commercial risk, and they would figure it out and prevent it. There’s no point playing a cat and mouse game with a website that isn’t interested in dispersing the money it’s raking in properly anyway. TinyPic is hosting my screen shot without issue, and it probably will for a long time. Looking at the Claisen Thread, the first page has two pictures that load. One is hosted by eBay, the other is a pic of mine via TinyPic from almost 2 years ago. You don’t see many free hosting services holding up like that, it keeps things relevant. It annoys me when I find a post from yesteryear and all it has is a big ad for some inferior hosting service that hasn’t kept the link working).

n7YOjdN.jpg

Who sees this^ that's hosted by Imgur and is Vitolos pic from above, which I couldn't see from Imgur on the forum but could from the other hosting sites..

I am using chrome with several privacy extensions, and can see imgur images. But i just checked, they don't load with firefox.

@MoltenTiger you could try pressing f5 when the image fails to load, it's probably just that it cached the failure when it tried to load it from fc

imgur.com/blah.jpg just redirects me to i.imgur.com/blah.jpg

but yeah, they are blacklisting the site, so youre right that it's not really worth bothering with them

I’m on my iPad and nothing from imgur will load on FC.
I’m sure if I made a post like this on the iPad, it would appear to work entirely;
n7YOjdN

Well, actually it didn’t lol - I was going to say it’d appear to work and on another device, it would be broken. But it’s straight up broken.
Imgur is simply a no go for FC show and tell

I think we're beating a dead horse here. Enable the Chrome or Firefox add-on to readily view previously posted imgur pics & use another site (for me that would be tinypic) for newly posted pics.
