Maintaining the High You Want

chinaboy

Still learning this thing called Cannabis
I've found mixing in medibles of some sort with your vapor intake greatly aids in maintaining the high you want ... this has been working REALLY well for me for the last while ... I've been consuming cannabis tinctures (sativa dominant strain) in everything I drink all day everyday and this seems to work great! In my coffee in the morning and my non-alcoholic beer at night (since I quit drinking a while back). This also helps me feel more "normal" in social situations where other people are drinking ... I just keep on drinking my cannabis beer!

Tinctures, you say? Sounds interesting. Do you make your own? Also, do you have any insight on how medibles affect your tolerance?

It is impossible to maintain a high, any high. They call it 'chasing the dragon'.

In order to get high, there must be a low at some point.

Vape until you feel right for you, then pause and ride it out. Chasing the dragon will only induce frustration as going from "was really high an hour ago, now just high" is standard.

I don't think I'm alone when I say the very first time I smelled weed it was a mind blower. Still love the smell, but can't pop the cherry 2x.

I agree about the big hits thing. Visually impressive, but the bigger hit of vape you blow out, the more you are wasting.

It's always tempting to do a super huge hit, but it's generally just going to get your eyes watering and induce coughing.

That's kind of the known downside to vaping. Unless you are doing wax on a nail or something, slow and steady is the best way to hit it, and patience can be a tricky one.

"Chasing the dragon" is generally used when referring to narcotics, not medication ... it is not impossible to maintain a high depending what your description of that is ... 2-3g a day, every day, consistently, work best for me with sessions spaced apart generally 1-2 hours (like I said previously in this thread, tinctures and concentrates help f0r convenience). If I go lower, it's less effective as my tolerance wanes and I get the wrong effect (too high) ... any less and my social anxieties especially really start to show up and I start to feel really nervous all the time (and start self-doubting myself ... on and on ...)

Some people use cannabis to get high and for social reasons, others its to feel better ... for those that use it to feel better, I don't think the term "chasing the dragon" really applies. (as well, many of us use it for both reasons, unfortunately the medical need generally outweighs the desire to have fun so one sacrifices the real "high" that one gets when one is not chronic in favour of the medical benefit ... so actually getting "high" in the general sense of the word can only be achieved by consuming copious amounts in every form possible ... edible, flowers, concentrates, ...)

I was always under the assumption that "Chasing the Dragon" referred to that first, unbelievable major high that one gets when they FIRST try certain drugs (i.e. Heroin)
One continues to use that drug in higher doses in hopes of getting that exact euphoric feel, but are never able to replicate it.
I think that is very different than trying to maintain a certain level of "high" during a session.

I switched from smoking to vaping approximately 5 months ago. I was smoking about an 1/8th a day and the wall was a daily companion. I had smoked daily for 40 years.

I am now vaping less than .5 g daily, I never hit the wall, and I, for the most part, maintain a fairly steady high from the time I wake until the time I sleep. If I want to get really baked, I can load up a bowl with the standard wand, or add some kief. Less, truly can be more.

As my consumption tapered down, I was only vaping fairly small dry hits thru my reduced vapor path DBV. Now that I have purchased an extremely cheap and poorly made Chinese bubbler which works fantastic, I have my daily medicating schedule fairly nailed down, and I am enjoying the larger hits that I can take with my bubbler. I load about 8-10 bowls of .05g per day, up from the .025g to .04g bowls when vaping dry. The first hit is almost always dry to get that great flavor. I then switch to bubbler hits at increasing temperature getting 3 really good hits to finish the bowl.

Doing the math, I take 2-3 hits per hour from the time I wake until the time I sleep, totaling about .5g/day and maintain my high just exactly how I like it.

Ain't vapin' great!!!

3 hits per hour sounds like a great schedule, but it doesn't fit my lifestyle... yet ;)

Wow, luchiano, tons of good information!

I never knew about any of this.

I think the way I vape is going to permanently change, thanks to you.

I seem to get more pleasurable/euphoric highs off of smaller accumulated hits and I never knew why. Now I do. I always wanted to know all the science behind "the wall". Thank you, luch! :)

No more gigantic rips for me. A lot of times I want to take a big-ass rip just to get "there" quick, but the high really isn't as good as if I took a bunch of tiny hits and was just more patient.

I've noticed before how gigantic hits can actually take you straight to the wall, almost immediately. Yeah, I think I'm finished taking really big hits.

Awesome information, thanks!

This post is great, I have an Extreme V-Tower, and when I started vaping, I got really GOOD HIGHS, I mean, I could watch a concert and really feel the music, enjoy the images, like if I were just there, watching it live! Also, almost psicodelic high, with colors changing, body floating, introspective thinking... really awesome.

After some time, my vapings sessions had less effect and I feel really sleepy, and I never had again that kind of high that I really enjoyed. Even sex was great in my first highs, but now I even can't "function" sometimes!

After vaping 5 or 6 shots in less than 10 minutes, I get a nice high bit then I continue vaping and get really stoned, sleepy....

I also adquired a Ddave mod kit, thinking I could get that kind of high again, but didn't help much.

In my first session, as I was experimenting, new to the Extreme V-Tower, I used to have hits very slowly, and very spaced between them, 5/10min or so.... maybe that is the secret?

Also, may I should get back to the stock glass (not DDave mod) so the heat is more far away and not get so much clouds?

Thanks in advance!!!!

If it was interesting it wouldn't be covered in cobwebs from 5yrs ago.
There are other threads with this type of information that aren't zombified.

The DDave mod thread and microdosing thread are two popular ones

Hello everyone.

I'm pretty new to the world of cannabis, but practically all of that time has been spent vaporizing. I only use in the evenings, and usually during that time I have other stuff to do, so I rarely get completely ripped. I haven't been able to just give full range to experimentation, so I'm still lacking in knowledge in many areas.

My specific question is what's the best way to maintain your high? Should you be taking one puff every half hour, two puffs every hour, or what? It seems like it takes about 15 minutes for my high to set in after vaping, so that makes me think I should time my next puff before I start to lose my original high?

Another thing that's related to maintaining a high is this: I've noticed that if one puff gets me high then when I go to take another puff an hour or two later, it doesn't do it for me. Is this normal?

Thanks for any input to help a noob like me:)
It really depends on your tolerance. If you have a high tolerance, a puff every 5-15 minutes might just maintain your high. If you have a low tolerance, a puff every 15 minutes could easily get your absolutely blasted. You have to find that point, for yourself.

As for your second question...Yes, that is completely normal. Tolerance works throughout the day, as well. If you vape more than 1-2x per day, you will notice a significant decrease in how much you get out of the same amount of bud.

I usually have 2-3 hits and then chill for about an hour. Then vape another hit. And then maybe an hour later hit a couple more and then pass out. Using a haze Square to achieve this which is great to take a bit and put away for a bit.

I've been testing CBD/THC % to get the high I'm looking for, wrote a nice little piece on that today

IME, that's the best way to do just about the opposite of maintain your high. You vape yourself sober!
How would you recommend someone go about maintaining a similar level of highness for an extended period of time?

^ i tend to refer to that as "plateauing"
Isn't plateauing the same thing as maintaining a certain level of something?

....................................................................................
Definitions get murky as it depends on where your plateau level is (WHAT ELEVATION?)
If it's truly a "high elevation plateau", then that would also be "maintaining the high".

But some might interpret different ????

ya, sorry about that...its how i refer to hitting that short term wall where i need to let a session run its full course before reattempting an elevation change. its kind of like, that high i was chasing has been passed and now im stuck not giving a fuck how much higher i get since its not what i was wanting. kind of like when you pass someone in the interstate and feel like you are moving quick enough then someone else passes you and watch them gain leaving you feeling like you are going slower, becomes a chase that wont produce what you were initially fine with since someone else is likely to pass you again (helps to not blast slayer too).

i find "maintaining" to be a slippery slope to hitting the Wall and blame partly the chemistry of the brain and partly the fact that even in microdosing it can be quite hard to be exact, perhaps legislation will pave a better way for this with research and scaled production (delivery method). for a while now ive preferred not maintaining any type of high, for me letting the effects wax and wane provides a better balance and outlook. im not medical and realize its a factor to my perspective of this. :peace:
