Low Dose Naltrexone and Cannabis

Been looking into low dose naltrexone or possible ultra low dose since currently on opioids. Has anyone used LDN along with cannabis? At higher dose naltrexone is used in addiction treatment but also seems have a paradoxical effect in ultra low dose..

Ultra low dose naltrexone seems to enhance opioid analgesia and reduce tolerance. I been on same dose of Oxycodone for 7 years. Even with condition worsening I fear its only a matter of time before the powers to be decide being in agonizing pain is a better than me becoming addicted to opioids.

Thank god for cannabis if it wasn't for it I honestly wouldn't be here posting this. Cannabis has allowed me to stay remain on same pain medication dosage. Really hate the stigma and side effects from the pain meds so always searching out other options.

Everyone's biochemistry is different so your mileage may vary...
yeah, I used LDN and cannabis together with no ill effects.

I was NOT on opiates.

Thanks going see pain management doctor this week so going discuss pro's and con's of trying out LDN. More I read up sounds like might be able use it along with oxycodone if spaced right. Really would like to get off the pain meds.

Glad to hear it didn't effect cannabis that was a main concern. Cannabis works wonders for my neuropathy but have muti health issue and sadly sometimes even cannabis isn't enough. Maybe reaching for straws but seems a safe enough option to explore.

From what I've read, you can't use LDN and opioids together. Possibly if you have them at opposite ends of the day. I couldn't get hold of it, the supposed pharmacy selling it turned out to be a scam. Which is a pity, because I had to stop using tramadol due to side effects and now have no pain relief.

@HerbieVonVapster I'll be seeing a new Pain Management Doc soon as well, but I'll be looking into the spinal stimulator implants they have developed for pain relief. Already went down the BigPharma rabbit hole with the pain management group I had years ago, they are the ones who pointed me to Dr. Denny while he was operating down here in So Cal.

That sounds like the implant that made things a lot worse for my cousin, but that was about 25 years ago, and this is effectively hearsay. I'm sure you'll research it carefully. She has EDS and CRPS, in case that helps.

yeah the latest ones are supposed to work pretty well and a couple manufacturers make units you can still get MRI's with (previous generations you'd die). they set you up on a test rig before they implant it.

No idea, but I think it may be what stopped her from walking ever again. They'd misdiagnosed her, too, as I recall. Any idea what was so bad about the early models?

no. the only implants I was familiar with from way back were the morphine pumps (that broke).

the previous versions of recent vintage spinal stimulators basically have conductive leads in the spinal column, and under an MRI they would heat up and kill you (a point they all made painfully clear!).

as if Multiple Myeloma wasn't bad enough, the chemo created side effects wicked enough to keep me in a wheelchair anytime I leave the apt, and each step I take is misery. So, if this can knock my pain down even 50%, that's a win, I may be able to walk again.

Read mixed things concerning that as well. Most days i tend to take last oxycodene no later than 6 in the evening. Thinking if I take the LDN around 11pm shouldn't effect morning dose of oxycodene to bad 7-8 hours later. Also seems the ultra low dose has might even enhance the oxy's effect.

Thinking of starting ultra low and hopefully replace this for the oxycodene over time.

Let me know how that works out. I been happy with current pain management doctor been working with him 6-7 years now. Sadly he is out of state and for the last 6 years he has worked with my doctor here. New policies no longer allow my in state doctor to write for chronic pain meds.

Trying find other options. Pain doctor has agreed to take over writing my oxy scrips. I have to now enter into a pain contract and make a almost 4 hour roundtrip drive every month. Before saw him every 3-4 months.

Big change from going to doctor every 3 months and getting 3 months of scripts that where dated a month apart to this.

I wouldn't want to mix the naltrexone and the opiate, could make you SICK. check the half life for each and calculate or ask the pharmacist.

Pain contract, thank the DEA. Predicated on what insurance you have, they may not care if you test positive for THC. Kaiser is notorious for kicking people out of their pain management if they test positive.

4 hours each month, what a pain in the ass :(

Don't think it's going be a issue. Least I hope not. Lucky my pain doctors aware of my cannabis use. He even was writing me marinol up till I received my Medical Marijuana Card. Insurance is medicare so I think I am safe there. I don't use any illegal drugs so not worried about failing a urine test.

Guess compared to some I am lucky still will have access to pain meds. Scary how there treating people in pain. Have you seen the new anti opioid commercial there planning on using? Makes people that are on these drugs look like crazed manics willing to hurt themselves to get a fix.

When did LDN start being used for pain? About 15 years ago I knew of it being prescribed for treatment of PTSD but not pain.

Anyway, the insanity regarding opoids is just one of the many crazy things about this time. When they find opiates in ocean fish I agree that something needs to be done to prevent abuse. But restricting those with severe pain from accessing it does nothing to reduce the "epidemic"

they are not just finding opiates, but birth control, anti-depressants, chemo drugs, we've been too stupid for too long about what our oceans represent for us as a species.

they've been using ldn for probably a good 10 years of so, but it's still off the beaten path.

After talking to pain management doctor decided against the low dose naltrexone. Altho he thought it be worth trying he pointed out a major disadvantage to naltrexone.

Being that naltrexone is used to treat addict. He's worried that prescribing it could put a red flag on medical records. LDN isn't well know. if I need to move or change doctors I don't want a drug listed for substance addiction in my records.
