What's better than a Herbie? Two Herbies! I have both models and they are both working excellent. I keep one in my bedroom and the other at my bar. The heat up time for 445F is 20 seconds and a couple of hits puts you at a 1 minute. Instantly medicated and save the rest for later. This unit is great for personal or party mode and I love the fan assist. Well worth the money when on sale.

But what a complicated over engineered vape this this is. Examining the materials used and the vapor path there is no way I would ever use it again. It’s now in my trash can. A complete failure in my opinion.

Yeah it’s a bummer. I fished it out of the trash in case anyone asks me to point out some areas of concern. It’s just not one of my better vape purchasing decisions.

Yeah, quite the Might be a good time to let us know what materials are being used that concern you so much. What are the areas of concern? I do recall @Engineer being quite transparent with the materials used, including high temp epoxy or something.

Shame that @Engineer bailed here and never released his vape! Still secretly hoping that he shows up on the radar again someday...somewhere.... did anyone ever meet him on his road trip and offer up a sofa? Seemed like a heck of a dude.

Thanks @FlavorChaser for liking this post. I'd been looking for it for a long time. I wanted to report back that this mod is still working like the day I made it. It kicks the shit out of the regular herbie bag experience.

Why do you use the delta 3d piece too though? I have the exact setup you said ... and the delta 3d piece ... but why do you use it when filling bags?? The regular bowls, herbie or volcano (ONLY with yellow o ring or you'll melt your unit), work well without any adapter

I personally have never used the delta 3D piece for the herbalizer. If you read both of the posts that are linked at the very bottom. I made my own hybrid of the Herbie squeeze valve and the Volcano Solid valve. I don't have to hold down the bag to fill it. The idea behind using the Delta 3d piece was to provide a better seal with the volcano bag.

Wanted to tell you guys the story.

I live in Hong Kong and its 220v 50hz here. Herbie is 110v 60hz.

Its the HZ that was the problem. I plugged it in and fried the tech.

Sent it back and had it fixed (for free, so luckily)

Bought a Frequency Converter which is like another 2 hundred something dollars.

The converter is huge.

But now I can happily vape. Worth it.

I have had my herbie for a full year now.

The best.

I also have a mighty and ordered a Dynavap M, hope its cool.

Hi which converter did you use and was it a all in one voltage and frequency converter? If separate could you tell me which step down transformer you use. Also if separate what is the set up procedure. Thanks

It's been 3 yrs.since I've owned the Herbalizer and I still consider it to be one of the top 5 Desktops on the Market today( some say #3)arguably so. The unit came out 5 yrs ago , took the industry by storm and placed many a Volcano in the closet, including mine. The ingenuity of the halogen bulb, the incredible warp speed heat up time, top extraction and succulent taste. Innovative? Yes! , but that was over FIVE YEARS AGO ! Shouldn't we be getting more innovation by now? . It seems that the industry as a whole has waved it's collective hand and yelled "Check,Please".
We have all supported these companies ,many making mucho dinero. May I ask why their R & D dept. seem to be on life support? Instead of more bells,whistles & lights how about the industry as a whole just finally take the next step. Maybe it's time for "The Engineer" to return and reinvent this industry with a portable Herbie.

Also, you are using the mouthpiece from an original bag? You just removed the mouthpiece from the original bag?

Just buy Volcano replacement bags, most head shops carry them. There’s a video on YouTube showing you how to replace bags yourself if you needed help. Herbalizer is a huge ripoff, I just buy bags from them to get the new mouthpieces and hardware occasionally.

Quick clear up for my ever forgetful self, deta 3d adapter (song was it?) is all I need to make volcano easy valves fit snug and work wonderfully right?

I ordered mine in April 2014. The first unit had a board failure 1 year later. No big deal; the company replaced it with a new unit. Yesterday that unit caught fire so we had to hose it down and trash it.

It’s a bummer because I was pretty happy with it and now I have to figure out what to replace it with. I’m even considering another Herbalizer, but it’s the only vape that’s ever broken on me (twice in different ways).

I fired up Herbie last night after a 1 month break of not using it due to some new vapes. I loaded up some sour og and some moon rocks to medicate before bed and during the night. I enjoy the fast heat up 20 seconds to 445F and the large bowl which makes layering easy. This is back in the daily rotation now.

Just got the Herbie back after the sick message; took about a week to get there, it’s back about week after, and I’ve never missed an inanimate object as much.

I liked that customer service was really fucking cool.
I expected fuckery of sorts, but they held your mans down.
Prompt as fuck responses,
No stank attitude, No run around,
Nothing but fine dining and breathing.

(Felt like expressing my joy over having my baby back, thanking the people at herbalizer, and then I worried that I sounded like an Ad so I explained myself for no other reason than vain paranoia)

I made a bag @ 366F but got called away and left the house for about 5 minutes. Upon my return I smelled burning plastic from the front yard and ran straight to the vape and unplugged it. Not sure if the fan failed or what but it definitely combusted and melted itself, and the plastic placemat it was sitting on. It was clearly continuing to melt when I got to it.

I've left this thing on its various levels of standby for thousands of hours without issue but I will probably revisit that strategy going forward.

I note that member Winegums seemed to have a similar issue, reported back in December, with a unit of similar age.

I reported this to Herbalizer just now and I'll probably give them a ring on Monday.

Edit: looks like one "ViCKi LEEKX" also had a unit fail spectacularly a couple weeks ago - not sure how I missed that!

Terrifying... I'm glad I stopped mine before it got to flaming! The abv/dust leakage scenario seems pretty possible to me but since you can't open the vape without voiding the warranty, how are you supposed to inspect/clean?

I was wrong about the dates. Mine's actually only 1.5 years old, not 2.5 years old - so theoretically under warranty (I bought it online from a vape shop in VA which claimed to be an authorized reseller). It was purchased Oct 2016 but who knows when it was manufactured.

I was thinking about adding a Herbie to my vape collection. I am kind of scared to now. I have wanted one of these forever, but I bought the Plenty instead because it was cheaper. The Herbie just looks more convenient to use than the Plenty, but not if it is going to kill all the people in my apartment building. I will keep track of this thread. I really don't want an EVO.

Honestly I'm a little scared too but given the abuse Herbie is put through and the number of units out there I will probably continue to use it - assuming I get a warranty replacement - albeit more carefully and perhaps on a smart switch (or just add an appropriate fuse).

Edit: I'll definitely be strapping a thermal fuse on the base of the unit. They are essentially free at volume levels so it seems like a no-brainer for the NASA guys but sometimes when you're too smart you assume certain things Just Wont Happen (I've been guilty of this myself). In any case... that's some cheap insurance that at least you wont be feeding the fire (literally) in a worst case scenario. I guess maybe something like this 3a breaker might serve the same purpose but with the added benefit of being physically separate from the Herbie.

Fuck, the more I type the more frustrated I am that I have to hack a $649MSRP device to just be reasonably safe.

For context, the Herbie was my daily driver for more than 4 years - 1 year on my original unit and 3 more on the replacement. Several pounds went through it over that amount of time and I loved most things about it except the bags (I preferred to use the Volcano rolls).

Having dealt with the company through one replacement, I have every reason to think that they will stand by their products and make things right by anyone who suffers a failure. I personally won’t be requesting a replacement because I’m pretty paranoid about fire and think there may be a bit of a design issue involved, but also because after 4 years I’m simply ready for a change.

While some vaporizers are more combustible than others, offhand I can’t think of any that come without any fire risk. This experience was a reminder to me that I shouldn’t leave them unattended in general because things can go south in a matter of seconds.

Regarding the Plenty, I’m using it as a backup for the meantime while I try to get my hands on a Glass Symphony. Definitely less convenient, efficient, and tasty than a Herbie. It’s very sturdy and quite effective just like the other Storz & Bickel products I’ve had (Mighty and Digital Volcano). It’s a bit of an odd duck but it’s been particularly useful for me in camping scenarios where an inverter or generator is available for power.
