So how can I tell if mine supports use on the wall-wart? Any risk if it doesn't?
And how beefy a 12 volt supply does it take to operate it that way?

I thought I just said, but obviously wasn't clear enough. Sorry about that, let's try again. Turn yours on, then plug in the charger. If it still runs it won't work with PA. Alternatively, plug in the charger and while it's charging try to turn it on. Again if it will 'use while charging' you're SOL.

The 'PA able' one will charge or run but not at the same time.

It will not run PA on 12 Volts, that's what nine Volts is for? PA on 9, charge on 12 automatically. The PA needs to be at least 2.25 Amps (marginal, 2.5 or more recommended)......but at 9 Volts not 12?

No damage from undervoltage. Random useless flashing up to about 7 Volts, then PA mode to 9 (no charging), then more nonsense up to 10.2 or so when proper charging starts and works up to 15 Volts. In no case apply more than 15 Volts, 13 is a much safer upper limit.

If your unit is one of the newer versions (with larger air holes and less restricted draw) you're SOL. 'Use while charging came before that. The last new ones to ship that way (allow PA) were several years ago.

Sorry, what is PA?

Mine was purchased a long time ago, when they first became popular.
Can you tell what it will and will not do?
Thanks, @OF, appreciate your help.

PA is Power Adapter, the ability to run on an external power supply rather than internal battery pack. What you're asking about?

If it's really from 'a long time ago when they first became popular it has a ceramic bowl? If so you're good.

There is a danger using serial numbers, Arizer says so. They have issued numbers out of sequence. That said, I don't think it's old enough. Mine that do 'true PA' have more simple numbers, without the M1A1 prefix?

The only one who can really tell for sure is you with the test(s) I've suggested (which are conclusive). Is there a reason you can't just do that that test???

The bowl on this unit is lined with metal. If I plug in the charger from idle, it charges, but it will also turn on and run. If it's running, and I plug in the charger, it continues to run.

If I can operate it while on the charger, assuming it will run that way with a discharged battery, I'm happy.

You said " if it will 'use while charging' you're SOL." Why do you say SOL? You mean for the special case of running it at 9v with a 2.5A adapter? What's the advantage of that?

Or is it that if the battery is too depleted, it will not operate at all on the 12V 1A adapter?

Yes.

What I thought we've been talking about? About being able to use the 9 Volts on the bottom.

The main advantage is not wearing out the battery when you don't need to.

Not sure whether to fix or replace my solo. for the second time I’m having issue with the lights flashing. Previously it was under warranty through Aroma-Tek I fixed it no charge. Absolutely

My solo stopped working (lights flashing). Can I repair this by repacing the battery? (Last time this happened it was under warranty). Assuming its time for me to buy a new vape how does the original model Solo compare to the Air? (I have a wood stem from Ed and would it fit on the Air?). My preference is to not spend more the $150. Anything else I should consider? (I do not need that small as I only use at home)

My Solo just stopped working (flashing lights). Last time this happend it was under warranty. Now that its not would a new battery fix it? Someone posted they were going for around $25.

Modnote: 3 (pretty redundant) posts merged.

I don't mix ROSIN with Flower.

When I clean a stem with cotton batten I make multiple layers, tar - pot - tar - pot etc so I can roll it into a ball without getting sticky fingers, and it stores in the basement of the grinder. KidFated. mentioned being overly medicated and it certainly works, but I'd describe it more as being strong but in taste lacking the nuance of flower. It looks like dried rabbit poop.

I love me some Solo - Got 3 so far but gave one away. The new one I got Dec 2017 started a strange symptom a few weeks back when fully charged to level 7. I immediately turn it on after charging and it only shows the battery is charged to level 6. Doesn't matter how long I let it charge.... it will stop charging at level 7 but only displays having been charged to level 6 after removing it from the charger. The new one also can't finish a full session when the battery shows level 2.

My 2014 Solo (First one I purchased) is outperforming the new 2017 version. Thinking of sending the 2017 back for a replacement or a fix. Anyone seen this before? Kinda feels like a battery issue.
