Daily smokers, why are you still buying China glass?

Just give them the number to the local Pizza Hut

You must have faith brother,

enter a random number :D

I actually used to do that, only it was the main White House # I used to give out. I stopped doing that (haven't had a phone # I would give out for years) when it occurred to me that if they ever DID actually use that number, somebody else was likely to be getting my order, LOL!

I don't have a phone and they won't let you order unless you give them your phone # "for delivery purposes"
I am pretty sure they do not check the phone numbers, I opened my account with them a few months back and the number I gave them has now been cut off (I have now got the Aussie NBN and have cut off my landline as my mobile is AU$10 a month unlimited talk and text in OZ)
Just give them your old number so it at least looks real and you should be right, got to have access to some glass, no matter where it is from......because we all know...... glass=civilised

@LesPlenty

I REALLY wanted that bong. And I used to use the ploy you suggest, for many years, a couple of decades actually, whenever I ran across something that I couldn't fob off with the number for information or all 0's. Or the White House number, LOL!

But then it occurred to me, if there ever WERE actually a problem, and they actually USED that number, and whoever answered the # I had given managed to reroute the shipment, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Makes me nervous. The last time I had a phone # to give and actually gave it out, I started getting not dozens, but HUNDREDS of scam phone calls. My phone had hundreds of numbers on the blocked list before I gave up and gave the phone up. Eventually I will have an OOMA phone but I will never ever ever give that number out once I have it.

$10 a month unlimited? I WISH I LIVED IN AUSTRALIA! For that and many other reasons. Like sensible gun control, and health care. Although almost everything in Australia is just waiting to kill you ... giant sea crocodiles that swim upriver. Little blue octopi. Deadly spiders that drop on you out of trees. LOL! You guys need the health care!

I do not think DHGate would be `on the game` enough to give your number to a courier to help you if there was a problem, I second the motion to give them Pizza Hut`s number and tell them to ask for Dave, Dave`s not here man.

What are you on about? If you actually read any significant portion of this thread you would know I am a SUPPORTER of buying via DHGate from reputable sellers.

Your post just doesn't make any sense. Unless you work for DHGate? Otherwise you're just some random guy in China that has nothing to do with anything on this whole thread.

Yeah. No. Phone = not necessity. I have a cell phone with no service for 911, why would you need anything else? I have the interubes, I can chat at my son or even skype him any time for free. Plus e-mail.

DHGate may want a phone # and I may (do actually) want some glass from there, but want not = need.

...almost off the grid

I was a homesteader for many years. Built my own house, as in with my own two hands. But not really "off the grid" per se - I don't really want to do without hot and cold running water, heat, air conditioning (and by extension power and/or gas).

I remember my grandmother being excited to get running water in her kitchen - which happened when my dad and uncles dug a new well in the basement so she could have the pump at the sink instead of out in the yard, LOL!

I have alternative means of communication, and after my last phone got spammed to death, not enthused about cell phones. I WILL get an OOMA phone eventually but for now, another phone is not at the forefront of needs. And when I DO get it, not giving that number out to anyone but my son and just a couple of friends.

Right now I'm just not confident enough to use a fake phone # to get around DHGate's intrusive demand for a phone #, but maybe later, when things are more settled and the potential loss of $25 or $30 doesn't mean I won't have grocery money for the month, LOL!

I guess my issue isn't always the quality, although quality can be an issue.

It's more the sweat shop labor that is the issue, as well as inferior materials.

I recently saw a video of some china spoons that were painted on the inside, causing the paint to melt and off gas when used.

I mean why not support your local or national cannabis movement?

Some rigs I own are 7 years old. To amortize the cost of a $1000 rig over 1 year is $2.74 a day.

Most American glass is being sold as art, rather than a practical tool, and that is probably why most opt in for the cheaper option. At the end of the day its to get you from Point A (sober) to Point B (stoned), so for $20-$200 if it gets the job done, then why not?

Plus, not everyone has $1000 in lump sum cash to buy a glass piece, the rich still own 99% of the wealth. :)

-
This also reminds me of the time when I was in university and my professor told me to buy a "handmade" guitar versus "machined made/chinese made" guitar (because they are 'better') which I did, spent $6000 dollars and I don't hear a difference (my guitar was $600), and trust me when I was 21 I could have used that money for practical uses versus another guitar.

Too many people are swayed into thinking that western made is better, or pricier is better.
Just watch this documentary about this million dollar violin that people think is better, but its not.

Anyways, the guitar is chilling in its case, and you know how hard it is to sell art, especially when its $400+ or more? Super hard, waste of money, especially if you don't use it anymore.

Too much money for very little difference, again Point A (no music) to Point B (to creating music).

So. I would not consider me a daily smoker for various reasons. But I love glass.

With me discovering dabbing I had a need for some glass pieces. I thought I needed a piece with a male joint. Nowadays it seems the general consensus is for female joints again.
I thought just for testing lets go with cheap china glass.

As i cannot order from dhgate I got what I could find on eBay. Only pieces under 50$ for customs reasons.
One (had toro written on it) broke after around 3 weeks while q-tipping.

One misses the function partly as the downstem does not go to the base of the unit. My fault I could not see it on the picture and did not ask for clarification.

A dropdown just fell apart without even touching. Probably heat stress break from the enail. Got replaced.

I work in a lab and am used to manipulate lab glass. The ground glass joint of the chinese pieces I have, look like precision ground joints, but do not come remotedly near to the real deal.
To their defence I can say I have a western piece that has a not perfectly ground joint too. Still much, much better than the chinese ones and it works perfectly fine. But I have never seen a lab ground glass joint wobble the slightest.

I did not expect lab quality from the chinese makers so that was ok for me. I expected the functionality to be a little better. I also got a quartz banger that is near to unusable.

One of the water pieces is to my liking and works perfectly fine. Ok the color is painted, but never mind. Edit: It is too big though.

All in all it was educational. I learned that I probably prefer small pieces with little percolation for dabbing. There is just more taste in these things.
Next piece, if any, will be american (continent, I do not know if you include canada in "american glass") as I think most knowledge for functional dabbing pieces come from there.
Or a chinese piece that is loved by FC dabbers.

Well the atomiser is made by Longmada id say they had a pretty considerable reputation?

Why fish for an answer then complain when you dont hear what you like? It seems like maybe you have nothing valuable to contribute? Sorry if that's construed as offensive.

We have ordered 9 or 10 pieces so far and all were very well done.
Correctly tempered consistent joints no bubbles or rough spots nice clear glass of the thickness advertised.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions @LesPlenty @arb and @ataxian. Haha you want to trigger an episode of GAS.
@ataxian it seems you have touched and broken more glass than anyone here. Makes you the ultimate expert. You only know how strong your glass is/was when you have broken it. I am happy to hear your advice.
@LesPlenty
They are cool! They have a website and it seems they also accept that payfriend" thing which would be perfect for me!
@arb cool glass too from alina0086. I'll see if they accept something else than credit cards.

In France (and in Europe for what I saw), the "culture of the water pipe" is almost non-existent, Same for concentrates, it's less generalized.
The main mode of consumption remains the joint.
There is therefore much less offer, not to mention the price.
FRANCE is very CIVILIZED!
So I will bring cheap glass there.

FRANCE is just a beautiful place!
@Sick Vape good luck with your love of glass!

I was not considering those outside the US and Canada. Have you considered finding artists locally? People blow glass everywhere.

European here.
After a life of using only cheap glass last march I found out that one of the (very) few glassblower in my country lives a couple of hours by car from home. The idea of owning something custom handmade for me was super temptating and having a chance to talk to the actual artist and even being able to see my piece while it was being made was a huge plus.
That said it costed me 400€, I constantly have to keep an eye on friends and girlfriend when i take it out and it's a PITA to clean while it gets me high exactly as my old 25€ DHGate bubbler.
In the end I'm very happy with it and I can even see myself looking for some other nice piece in the future but I understand is not for everyone.

As a glass blower i dont have anythig against china glass except how it prays on the uneducated.

I suppose i have a problem with the consumer antics of most western societies and the ironic rhetoric most mericans take while the chinese buy theyre country from under them. Irony isnt lost on me at all haha

I strongly believe in supporting local as i like to keep my money circles small, it is the route of all evil after all.

Spend your money how you like just be aware of how it effects others not just yourself. Individualism is built into us living in strongly petrol dollar controlled countries but it only controls us as we allow it.

Be a free thinker. Its not inherent in humans.
