400*+ vapor temp / different amounts loaded

I have a question. Figured I would ask in a new thread. I read a bunch of the articles on vaporizing at different tempatures. I have found that it works better for me if I’m over 400 degrees. I use pax 3. I’m finding some times I get higjer then others. When the pax vibrates and beats up I take take my draws it seems like if my chest don’t hurt I don’t get insanely high. Some times I will let it heat up and sit for a minute or so. Are you supposed to let the weed heat up as well a little longer before taken draws? When it gets real hot it hurts when inhaling like burning, but it seems like i get higher then I would if not feeling that burning feeling. I always take 2 10 second pulls. Or could the amount of material I load impact it as well? Some times half full other times I fill the entire chamber up and pack right. Not sure why the highs are not always consistent. Wether I’m smoking a high cbd strain or high thc strain it’s the same. One day I’ll get a mild high the next it seems like I’ll get really high.

The 2 things that remain the same are tempature and I always take 2 10 second pulls on the strains I’m used too. Yet a different result.

The way I myself used the PAX3 temperatures I didn't find huge differences in quarter pack, versus half pack, versus full pack except for the amount needed to fill it. But I imagine when starting out at high temps like 3 petals or more, then filling your oven up full is probably making the resulting vapor more potent than with a half oven.
There was a set of variables listed like a formula in a Storz and Bickel vape manual and it mentioned the relationship between Temperature, load amounts used, and the exposed surface area of the material.
It is true that extraction can be tuned by adjusting those variables, and with a full oven and high temperature setting it looks you have the formula set higher than with a half oven?

So in theory, to get the same results from a half oven you would raise your temperature and/or regrind or stir your material during your session (Or grind it finer in the first place? But this part is not always true!)

i started out at higher temps but after a few years, i have a great fondness for vaping at lower temps. i go as low as 330f for both buds and shatter. i mostly vape shatter these days and i was surprised to find that 350 is a lovely high. i'm retired and vape throughout the day so i don't want to get zonked at 7 a.m. by vaping at 400 to 430 :).

At this post my I rather be sleepy then higher then a kite in my head with no body high. Chronic pain is not fun. I may be a little higher and eventually relaxed and get tired but at least I’ll have a body high too and most pain gone.

But now I’m confused again. I vaped 1 8 second draw last night held for about 4 seconds got a tiny high. Woke up early am about 4, and needed more so took a full 10’secind draw held for about 5 seconds, and don’t even get a buzz. Now I’ll probably try 2 10 second pulls and be fine then out of no where one session I’ll get higher then a kite. The highs I get are not always consistent. Same time and same amount of draws, some times I get super high others I get the high I like and others it’s barely noticeable. Unless having an empty stomach or light meal before vaping has a big impact.

I think the thing to remember to is that you are in a different mental place everytime and different things are going on in your head i.e. things that need to be done that day and so on. For high temps I always turn to my flowerpot and I basically compare that to doing a few shots in a row at the bar, its always a bit intense at those temps but some days I need that

i read that as vapor is different than smoke, it's a good idea, and fairly easy to hold the vapor longer than you would have held smoke. i take smallish tokes so it's easy to hold it in for as long as i want. as an ex respiratory therapist pothead, i think it works.

and i usually don't judge a new genetic until 15 minutes or so after inhaling the shattery goodness. it takes awhile for the vaping high to kick in. i even set an alarm. :)

This is not how it works.

:2c:
works for me. what can i say. placebo effect? i've only been getting high since 1969 and a respiratory guy for a few years so please enlighten me.

the old the smoke is immediately absorbed so doesn't need to be held thing? it's not smoke.

And now vaped some more pineapple shock some as I have been, and a 12 second pull eyes are not even red I got the head buzzing but don’t feel high yet 16 seconds got me to high the other night.

Also thought I was told that vaping and smoking are different, but even holding in smoke is pointless for more then 5 seconds.

Almost there...
Holding your breath slows or stops the alveoli gas exchange which is the entire reason you get high. It is science. This topic has been beat to death here at FC so I do not have patience for the debate.

edit: When you hold a hit in as long as possible what you are really feeling is a lack of O2 in your blood. You can hold you breath 'cannabis free' and experience this 'lightheaded' effect.

+1+1+1!!
Your best bet for max absorption is to breath deeply a few times and then take your hit.
Nice and deep. A vape that produces dense vapor almost instantly helps a lot!!
Once done with your hit make sure you still have some room for a good gulp of fresh air.
Hold for a few seconds and exhale through your nose, more exposed mucosa for absorption.
It should be like breathing naturally for the best effects.

We know this and it has been :horse:but I somehow think it will never :rip:instead it will be opening a can of:worms:every time, ultimately resulting in :shit:!LOL!

It took a few years for me to realize that I had to unlock the potential of the vaporizer for my own use.
We vape at all different temps and can achieve the same color ABV.
Masters!

this is one of several articles i was reading. i like to keep an open mind.

a high one but an open one.

Smoking Vs Vaping: Absorption of THC
On the other hand, a more recent study from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, conducted by renowned cannabis researcher Arno Hazekamp, has got certain stoner circles talking. This study was not on joint smoking but on vaping, using a classic Volcano vaporizer made by German company Storz & Bickel.

According to this study, people that used the Volcano vaporizer exhaled a pretty big percentage of inhaled THC – in fact, 35% on average! The study instructed participants to hold their breath for 10 seconds. It would be interesting to repeat the study with different “holding” times to see if it altered the amount of THC being exhaled, as that could really help to answer the question.

https://internationalhighlife.com/does-holding-hit-make-higher/

after growing 4 crops a year for 20 years, and reading the multiple opinions on everything from roots to curing, i find that what is true today, often runs into a different reality the longer something is studied.

i'ma hold it once in awhile. :)

i also like to exhale a bit, inhale some fresh air, repeat. i take smallish hits but it sure gets me there. i have a bunch of shatter but don't like to be wasteful.

Interesting. One thing I have found out it seems like 390* is a less intense high then 420. Less of a body Hugh to though. Got a nice high going about an hour later took a 8 second hit was good for abit woke up around 4am took 2 8 second hits on 420 and got higher then a kite. More of a head high though. I’m starting to find with some strains that the pain relief seems to be capped wether I’m a little or or vape way too much, and I just get super high but the pain relief and other effects remain the same.

Holding your breath longer to get higher is just not true. You may feel lighter headed because you are oxygen deprived. I don’t count but only hold in for a few seconds. My temp is anywhere from 375 degrees to 390 depending on the vaporizer. A harsh cannabis strain may require a lower tempreture.

Sometimes like with the Enano I don’t know my exact temp. I go with what works with whatever cannabis I’m using. Different weed may require a different temp. Different vaporizers make a difference - the lenghth of your airpath for example. A longer airpath a higher tempreture maybe? A dryer strain a lower tempreture?

All of us are different far as how sensitive our throats and lungs are as well. A lot of different factors.

Completely subjective and each session can be a little different regards our perception of effect.
Nice thing is you fuck around and over do it...........you wake up from a loverly nap instead of die..........always a plus in my book.

I dont want to throw coal on this fire but I have one simple thought I wish to suggest.
First though I have reported often how my own personal herb supply has been so limited and unguranteed for years that I have cherished every bud to get the maximum from it.

This basically means holding my hits for longer than most. I have akways observed an unquestionable and direct correlation between longer hold times and a markedly stronger and longer lasting cannabis effect, which has gotten me a lot more stoned on less weed.

I have tested it out many times, exhaling sooner (5 seconds vs 10 or more) and I have honestly gotten noticeably less stoned and go though my weed much faster. Im not disputing the deoxygenated effects being deceiving, but that is not the reason for the much stronger effects from a longer hold.

I do akways try to keep the air moving. After I clear each hit, I continue to fill my lungs with air slowly as I can and get the vapor deeper down. I hold it for a while, then often do some re-breathing for the bigger "money" hits.

With all that said (sorry I couldn't resist chiming in when my own experience is so compelling), the simple suggestion I wish to put forward is this:

Maybe even when the hit is held dead still in the lungs, no re-breathing, how can we be so sure that the air and vapor is not still moving inside the lungs? For all I know it could still be moving and wisping around enough with enough oxygen present for increased absorption to continue to take place. I know it might seem like Im just trying to convince myself although I really dont feel the need. Just a dumb thought Im sure but one I am curious about and must have at least some validity?

@Alexis one idea for you from some of my recent research - previous tests performed on THC absorption rates cannot account for terpene absorption rates. Terpene absorption begins in the oral cavity, so its possible that even if holding hits in longer does not increase THC, it may increase absorption of a terpene which better directs that THC to the CB1 receptor.

Absolutey great point man. Also with so much emphasis on thc absorption in the only (useless) studies done, what about all the other compounds /cannabinoids as well?

We really dont know and are all still guessing/theorizing. We need some proper research done but I bet it will be a good decade before we get some really interesting and revealing actual scientific intel on this. But I hope Im wrong about that and things come to light much sooner,
in other areas too.

I feel greater effects from held draws. It was explained to me that the aerosol we call vapor settles or comes to rest in a way that smoke does not and that's at least one cause of improved absorption from holding the hit, right? Happy to learn more about it though and I'm not pressed if it turns out I'm wrong.

Yeah I’m noticing it too now. After last night though I thought I was finally getting hang of vapor but I’m just not getting consistent results. I been doing 1 13-15 second draw all weed and getting a mild head high last night only thing difference I know of it I packed the chamber all the way to the top and was my first time vaping all day and I got so high on a 13 second pull I’m still feeling sluggish all day today. Have not even eaten yet today I’m just not in the mood to eat.

I feel you bossman. “They” say that holding a hit does little to no difference but man, do I feel one. And not just the short “buzz” of oxygen deprivation - the high lasts and is much more intense this way.

This effect may very well be in my head but isn’t that where it should be?

It def makes a difference compared to exhaling right after you finish a draw. Gets me higher faster and u feel it more. Works so much better when hold it in for 2-3 seconds

I’m starting to find with some strains that the pain relief seems to be capped wether I’m a little or or vape way too much, and I just get super high but the pain relief and other effects remain the same.

I have found the same thing. I deal with incapacitating chronic pain every day, but some days are definitely worse than others. I use a hybrid during the day and an Indica at night, as I have never found a Sativa that can take care of the pain.

When I was still trying to find a Sativa that would work for me, I just chain-vaped all day long and it was still not enough to touch the pain. I would end up getting dizzy and nauseous, but I would still be in pain! Totally useless. I literally have given away over an ounce of medication to others because the strains just didn’t work for me.

However, on my bad days it’s difficult for me to find relief even with straight indicas. I think I need to move on to shatters and what not but to be honest, I’m a little intimidated and don’t really know where to start on how to use those things with the volcano. Or should I use my pax3 instead? If anyone has a link to a discussion of these issues or maybe some good videos on the topic, I would be most grateful! I need extracts for dummies!

If you have a mesh concentrate pad for your Volcano you can put that in your filling chamber and put your extracts on top, use the max temperature for extracts. If you don't have a pad, they are available through Storz + Bickel or any retailer that carries Volcano parts should be able to get it for you.
