Random thoughts

Almost there...
Has anyone noticed that most religions are formed by one man, all by himself, somewhere removed from the masses?
Comes down with big claims and chiselled stone tablets, gold tablets, burning bush and even alien motherships and many more...

Religion is for sheep who cannot make up their own mind.
They need the weekly socialization and to be seen repenting, waiting for salvation.
Will Salvation come in the form of another story form a prophet?

As we keep digging deeper, we keep finding new areas of civilization.
Has anyone thought that each subsequent civilization was wiped out due to not working out?
We are a giant science experiment and our time is limited to how long it takes us to destroy this world.
When the next civilization springs up, they will be in for some serious surprises!

I also wonder what a classic car of today will be in a hundred years?
Seriously, they are all garbage except for the super expensive, hand made cars.

So many random thoughts to explore, so little time!

I've always loved Italian so I suppose my salvation will come from Olive Garden?

I'm not very religious, i was forced to attend church early in my life, but it never took, but it cracks me up that those who wore, what would Jesus do? Bracelets. And the same folks are so quick to kick poor off welfare, deport illegals, lke the fact a person is illegal itself, and generally try to control other people, like us here in fact. Like that's what Jesus would do, lol. Afaik Jesus became popular by how he lived his life, not by forcing sunday rituals to insure godliness by guilt and peer pressure. Jesus would watch football on Sundays vaping some Jesus OG with me.

I was forced to go as a kid as well! Until 14 when they asked us to bring in our music and some books we liked to read...Then the shit show really started! LMAO!!!

I brought in some Metallica, Anthrax, Guns 'n Roses, Korn and some science fiction/fantasy books.
Let's just say they had a field day with me!! Devil's music and books about things not of this earth...FML!!!
I calmly gathered my shit, told them that I did not think this was for me anymore and walked out!

My Sundays got better after that since i went Radio Control plane flying with my dad instead!!
WIN, WIN!!!

The bible and any other religious text are just stories imo.
People are sheep and need to follow, some of us are smarter and see through their wolf clothing!

Is it very rare to be raised by atheist parents? Anyone else out there?

Guess there is no chance in Hell for us.

Funny way to put it

I was raised in a non-religious family and by that I mean none of us believed in god.

Being Jewish in my family meant we did the "traditional" things like keeping Kosher, going to Hebrew school till we were bar-mitzvahed and synagogue on the high holy days. Even though nobody in my immediate family believed in god we did these things to show respect to our older relatives who were caught in the Holocaust. Once the older generation passed on we all stopped following the traditions and none of our children went to Hebrew school.

Contrast my upbringing with my wife's Catholic upbringing.....my wife's family believed in god and still does. I marvel at the strength their belief provides them. Sometimes I wish I could believe as well to tap into that strength.

My children are atheists and my wife and her family have never tried to convert us and the topic never comes up. Our children were told to make up their own minds, participate in a religion of their choice if they wanted and were free to ask each of us anything. We spoke candidly in these discussions and they never turned into arguments between my wife and I. The only requirement we gave the children was to respect those who do believe in god and expect the same respect in return for their lack of belief. My youngest once asked me what she should do when her soccer team prayed before a game and I told her it was up to her as long as what she did wasn't disrespectful. So when they formed a circle to pray she stepped back from the circle and stood there with her head bowed and her hands cupped in front of her. I thought that was an OK compromise. So did the coach.

When I first met my wife her family didn't know I was Jewish and I worried they may not approve. Boy did I get that one wrong. When her family found out I was Jewish and we were going to get married they assumed my wife would become Jewish and they were fine with it. I asked my wife's mother if her daughter becoming a Jew would bother her and she said "The religion isn't as important as the belief in god and becoming Jewish won't get in the way of that belief". I was floored.

When it came to my parents I told them we would be getting married in church and they said they wouldn't come to the wedding because it would be an insult and embarrassing. I explained that my soon to be wife actually believed in god and participated in her religion and since my family didn't it would be hypocritical to deny her. I also told them that if they had wanted me to consider our family's religion they should have raised me that way.

To this day I marvel at the fact that the family who truly believed had the open heart and mind while mine was more concerned about how things looked.

Just so Dab HAppy!
I feel a new thread being pulled out of random thoughts but...
I just got free fries cause the dude making my sub didnt want to waste them and can't eat them since he is fasting for Ramadan. I was reading this thread at that time so big win for me!

The fries are waiting so I won't go to far into my religious experiences but I was raised Catholic and even an alter boy at a very early age. My father wasnt around and my mom converted us to a non denominational church. I thought the openness of belief was nice compared to Catholicism but I still didnt understand why people put their hands up or would talk out in the middle of church to say a verse from the bible or something else random as if they were coerced by some spirit and not the thoughts in their heads. I always questioned the literature and for quite a while I was not tied to any forms or acts of religion. Still I can kick that I believe in something or someone and I even question if that is just from childhood embeddment. I have a mother that prays to god when she loses her keys.

After 34 years I still have no clue whether there is a God, I don't believe in a devil and I don't believe the text is anything more than passed on stories that have been twisted, rephrased and exaggerated.

Luckily for me, I found a church that seems to fit with me. My church says it is the church that does not care. It does not care what I wear, how often I come, where I sit or whom I bring. It has good music amd good people. Somehow I still find the preaching of text from a book to be challenging to accept, but the rest is digestible in that it all promotes love for people and community.

On another note, I have recently become fascinated in learning about gurus and cults.

Cults are fascinating!
You should watch Wild, Wild Country. It's on Netflix.
Indian cult that moved to Oregon and basically tried to take over a small rural town.
Worth a watch to see all the rich and famous sheep sell everything and give their money to a stranger.

RANDOM THOUGHT:
I was reading Reddit and someone asked if there was a bong with ice catchers that diverted the melting ice water into a separate container so as not to affect the water level!
My thought was a drool catcher for the HydraTubes so as not to taint the water!

When I was 10 I tried to scam God for a new bicycle by attending an Assembly of God church (yeah, that one!) with my friend, who's father was the pastor. Never got the bike, but it was fascinating to see the adults work themselves into frenzies and tears once they got rollin' holy!

I remember they could not listen to the radio or watch TV, nor could the genders swim together. They had comic book-like scare pamphlets about the devil coming to get you, fires of Hell, etc.

The building is now a synagogue.

Went to one of my wife's catholic masses for the first time over 35 years ago. I remember thinking that the walls would cave in when this atheist Jew walked in. It was what they called a guitar mass. There was a lot of singing and everything was so ... upbeat and energetic. In my synagogue I remembered things being way more serious and somber during the service so it was quite the difference.

The mass was in Spanish for the most part and I was pretty high. There were times where I missed the timing on having to kneel, stand or sit. I figured they could tell I didn't belong or maybe I was just paranoid from the high. At one point my wife got up to take communion and to sing with the choir so I was left on my own. When my wife joined the choir and started singing I couldn't contain my laughter ... my wife can't hold a note even if she uses both hands and a wrench to do it but she had the spirit and was singing for all she was worth. She's also got a tin ear so she has no idea how bad she sings which made it all the more funny to me. I was pretty sure I was standing out even more like a sore thumb by laughing like that.

I had never been to one of her services before so when they sang this Spanish song and everyone stood up...... I was caught off guard when I turned and saw this huge gentlemen open his arms wide and come at me. I thought the guy was coming at me because of me laughing like that so I ducked under his arms and came up behind him and kept heading for the door. I guess it was my wife's turn to laugh at me because she was laughing so hard there were tears running down her face after seeing me duck under the guy like that. Turns out that at the end of the service they sing this particular Spanish song and everyone hugs it out. She could have warned me.......

I caught that one already. I have watched pretty much all that Netflix has to offer on Shamans, Gurus and Cults. Even the fiction stuff unless its vampire related. Vampires are not fascinating to me...not even people that think they are vampires...their just complete idiots. I also find docs on North Korea very interesting. I think a lot of religions can be compared to dictatorships in many forms of their practices.

Its not like I am searching for an answer, but exploring other cultures and beliefs seems to open my own a little and helps me to remember what I concretely believe in or don't.

And somehow sheep are fascinating. I am surprised that counting them still puts me to sleep.

Group think is powerful. I've witnessed it firsthand from my religious days. I was "saved" shortly after moving out of my parent's house on my own. Really, I was young, inexperienced, naive, and hopeful for good in the world. I didn't have a support system or family to rely on, so the church became my family. It felt good to belong and to be a part of something.

I really don't care one way or another if there is or isn't a "god", and it's having no effect on my life. Don't worry, Steve Harvey, my moral compass is fine.

Im on day 4 of #nofap. Trying to exceed 20 days this time, which is my all-time record since I started fapping 24 years ago. Hopefully i can get a multi-month streak going this time, and months from now when Ive lost count I can reference this post to determine what day I'm on.
20 days? Really....like all 20 in a row? Were your arms broke? Or were you in a coma? Seriously, how is that possible. You have already outdone yourself sir!

I had to google fapping. And I wish I didn't.

Reminds me of years ago when we still had a teenager at home. We bought him a new bed and found a nudie magazine taking down his old bed. After setting up the new bed, I took out the centerfold and pinned it on a wall over his bed. He never said a word about it, the centerfold disappeared, but his face was red for about a week, lol.

While I may never reach the Pearly Gates, my little brother surely has a sauna reserved in Hell. Some Catholic kids introduced us to a Catholic camp in the mountains. Great fun; hiking, archery, .22's, horses, bonfires, but we had to go to the chapel below every morning and evening. My bro hated the little bread wafers and would hold them in his mouth until he could spit them into the bushes as we exited.

I don't understand why one would feel the need to decrease masturbation unless it was getting in the way of the rest of their life.

Honestly, I've got a girlfriend, and I still masturbate at least twice a day. Most of the time I do it alone, but she likes to watch sometimes, too. There's nothing wrong with it.
