PAX Era by PAX Labs

This is my second empty pod. I broke the first, trying to imitate a youtube video. The second one I took the advise of @DMPesso, and i'm filling the empty through the mouthpiece, past a rubber stopper. I'll let you know how that works.

Works Great!

Glad to see it worked for you! I honestly wouldn’t even bother refilling a pod anymore, they just aren’t that reliable. So many of them have leaked on me unless I baby them and don’t take back to back hits or if the oil is particularly thick like the brand level, those barely leaked. The newer CCELL carts are still MUCH more reliable and give bigger consistent hits. I only like the era for convenience, discreetness (people think it’s a Juul) and variety of brands. I wish I could get good winterized oil in syringes because that Rubi from Kandy pens looks like a better version of the era.

Yeah, I wanted to know about how well this works too with the Era.

I bought EJ mix and syringes awhile back, mixed it with wax, filled up a JUUL pod, it worked. It required an additional draw to get going though. Certainly wasn’t anywhere near as potent as the Era. Clogged up after about a week. Wouldn’t wick anymore. The Era though is designed for those oils so I think you’d have much better success.
I have been told the reason it doesn’t work as well making your own is because the oil needs to be winterized aka dewaxed. That’s why most companies use winterized co2 or distillates with added cannabis terps.

I'm using a winterized distillate thinned with terpenes: on my second Pod refill. The first time I didn't fill it entirely. So far, so good for me.

Those that refill: How many successful refills can you get with a pod? I read somewhere that the pod is only good for 1-2 refills, but would appreciate any real world experience.

Are there any brands you can recommend for distillate? Also, how does your own compare to the branded pods as far as potency is concerned? I am not sure where to look for the best distillate seeing how most of them are just pure thc from trim. I would love some high quality winterized nug run distillate with the other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, CBC or whatever else there is. I hate the high from pure thc distillate. Has to be done right and it seems all the good winterized oil is sold mainly in cartridges or pods, most syringes I see are not winterized. You can tell by how thick it looks. I would love to thin it out with blue river terps. They are the best I have come across. Those gold drop blue river pods are really something special. I would refill a Kandy pens Rubi instead of the pax, seems more reliable, but if it’s working for you that’s great.

I'm from Washington State. The terpenes I used are from Connoisseur Concentrates: G-Rilla 13. The distillate I bought came from the "grey" mkt. Legal sellers selling excess product. My understanding is that shatter generally has been winterized. If you are in a legal state, ask your budtender for winterized product.

Thanks bro, I wish I was still in a legal state. I can get distillates but I don’t think it’s worth the risk. It could have leftover solvents and I’ll never know since most concentrates aren’t lab tested on the street. Not risking my health for that. If I had consistent access to clean distillates and shatters I would try it but god knows what is in the street oils.

What do you use to mix it though? Was thinking one of those electric hot plates with a small glass jar to mix it and then put back in syringe? Seems a bit of a pain to not waste any in the process unless your doing large amounts, 10 grams minimum at once. Can’t even picture doing it with only one or two grams

I use .5 mg or ml (its the same) of a terpene blend from Connoisseur Concentrates to one gram concentrate - more for non-winterized (up to 1:1). Terpenes must be similar to alcohol, because THC is not water soluble. I place the gram and terpene solution in a small glass vial (like a test tube, or heated shot glass, for example). Some folks apply a flame, I dip vial in almost boiling water. Stir with paper clip wire until blended well. It does not separate out. Terpenes evaporate, however.

Hmm, well I do know terpenes have diff boiling points but I wonder what’s left to keep the consistent runny if they boil off. That’s definitely one way to do it. Why is it so dark? Usually distillates are light and terpenes are clear ime

The above is an old photo I had. It is probably 2 grams of snap & pull and one gram of terpenes.

Here is a photo of the diluted distillate I'm using to load pods and carts.

Oh wow, 2:1 ratio of oil to terps. That’s a lot, definitely will decrease potency and I feel like that’s unnatural to smoke that many terpenes lol. I guess that’s why they use distillate because you don’t need nearly as much terpenes to thin the oil. You think adding terps to something like a ganja gold honey oil syringe would work? It’s a hexane extraction, but not distillate.

ganja gold honey oil syringe

Did they winterize it after extraction? I'm no expert, and I wouldn't be surprised if I got this wrong, but my understanding of winterization is that the freezing process make the waxes and shit collect into a soft ball in the solution, and you vacuum off the pure concentrate and leave the ball of wax. The concentrate has less wax to plug the wicks.

Yea, I believe it’s winterized because it says you can eat it or smoke it and the clarity of it and consistency seems winterized. I’ve put it in a sub ohm Kanger pro tank cartridge and it gave dab sized clouds. Was too thick for regular 510 carts, gave whispy hits without heating. I feel like it might be the perfect consistency to add some terps too. The terps don’t separate after it sits in a pod for a while?

@DMPesso Terps don't separate out. In essence, they are a plant solvent. But they can evaporate over time. If your product is edible, it means it has been activated (decarboxylated). Some prefer non-decarboxylated concentrate, as the added heat process is unnecessary if you are vaping it. But I'd ask someone who knows more about this shit than me.

I bought a new box for my Era. It is the same design as the wood one, but it is non-smelly plastic. Personally, one extra cartridge is enough for me. Some folks must go through these like water. The wood one gets gifted. Yeah, its smelly, but its the thought that counts.

I picked up a Pax Era after watching both Sneaky Pete and 420 VZ reviews, this unit looked very promising. After purchase, I picked a a cartridge at a local recreational store, and enjoyed my first session. I really liked how small this unit is, and performance was great. Unfortunately, the $60 half gram cartridge was spent quickly, and the same rec store stopped carrying them. A store manager told me that all of the employees preferred the price, flavor, and effects of a local competitor,Indigo, and that the Pax was given low priority in terms of restocking. I decided to go with a Hunibadger and I find that I get way better value vaping exactly what I want, without as much packaging waste. RIP Pax Era. I wanted to post a thread for Hunibadger, not much here on FC, but I’m not qualified yet, so too bad

Just re-loaded a pod for the second time, and topped off a half used pod. I'm using a distillate thinned with terpenes.

Have you been able to do a third refill on a pod? I'm wondering what the life expectancy potential actually is for the little fuckers.:hmm:

I haven't done a 3rd fill yet. The pod's wick is not plugged with waxes as I've been using a distillate. I'm hoping for a third.

I wonder if one could clean and re-use Juul pods on the Juul battery? They are sold in every state (I think). That would be another option for people.

Probably but the temp control app and the micro USB makes the era better I need to buy some used empty pods

Allegedly they are making prefilled CBD Distillate pods AND empty Ceramic "wick" Juul compatible pods made specifically for thick oils.

They are out of stock now, but I plan on testing the empty pod with CO2 oil and distillate. I also vape nicotine, so being able to carry one small device that gives me nic, CBD, or THC sounds great.

I haven't used the Era personally. How big of a loss would not having multiple temp settings be? The Juul only has one temp setting built in.

I've filled empty juul pods with distillate and co2 it will need to be thinned down with Terps/pg for proper wicking, the one pax era pod I've been refilling I've also been rewicking with organic cotton

Hempods is making cearmic based pods made specifically for thick oils. But yes, I think distillate or CO2 will still need some terps to thin it out a but. These pods should still work better than the standard Juul offerings, but still need to test it.
