This might be a silly question, but I've heard some people mention using degummed hemp fiber as a screen in their vapcap. I want to do this, but I wondered if there's a cheap alternative to the hemp fiber as I live in the UK and ordering it online from a local store will set me back like £10. Is there a cheap alternative I could use, like cotton or something?

The carbon fiber is great, it is crazy light weight. I keep that one set at the middle tip position for microdising. It also looks pretty snazzy with the Ti mouthpiece!

I just tried the carbon fiber stem yesterday too, and it’s a nice change in look and feel! I’ll probably keep it on for a while. :)

You can use cotton, but some people worry about the pesticides sprayed on cotton or the processing it goes through before it gets to you. Still, it’s used as a wick in a lot of oil cartridges, so you may already have used it.

I just ordered extra degummed hemp fiber since I think it’s the better option, and it should last a long time.

If you plan to order anything else from Dynavap in the near future, you could just wait and get both at the same time to avoid extra shipping costs.

I’ve also seen people buy it off of eBay, so if you look around you might find another trustworthy source with cheaper shipping to you.

...or you could just stick with organic cotton. I’ve seen other people recommend it since it shouldn’t have had all of the pesticides sprayed on it that most cotton has. Unbleached may be preferable too.

Whatever you get, it takes a minute to roll up a filter, but it’s easy (if you have good dexterity in your fingers) and it does keep large particles out of your condenser/mouth if that’s been a problem for you.

Can't seem to get complete restriction (with condenser fully extended) on my Omni xl after cleaning it, and I can't seem to fix it. Any ideas/suggestions to remedy this issue?
Ha! That was my same reaction when I got my omnis. I never got any conclusive answers when I posted here so I contacted Joe with my inquiry. I was told that the Omni was not made to fully choke dilution even when dialed to the max. It’s a disappointing because it’s not set and forget, if u use a water piece you still have to find and fiddle with the carb.

It's pretty much set it and forget it for me. I can get full restriction to the extent that I can tell no difference between toking through the fully extended condenser with the mp pushed up tight to the stem and manually covering the air intake.

I pull the mp/condenser assembly out of the stem and I unscrew the mp until it just barely connects to the first thread. I lubricate the orings and push that assembly all the way into the stem.

If you adjust the mp/condenser while it is in the stem, you may not get the full length to go in as tight as you want it.

Hope this helps... My Omni XL condenser is one of the first ones released.

That’s pretty much how I adjust it too but I found that the old tips works in choking off dilution completely. Those OG 4th generations seem to have all grounds covered. Not only do they serve me well with the omnis they also fit the best when mated with the woodscents. I have to rotate those precious tips between the 2 omnis and 2 woodscents stems, what a torturous life:lol:

Sorry I didn’t finish my reply. As I was saying the 7fin when dialed to max is as you described it, if I try it with any of the 5 fins the air dilution is about 15% open. That’s enough leakage that I can make a piece of paper shift when I blow hard so it’s not a small leak.

I used to make stems slightly shorter so that they would fully choke with an Omni but reverted back to 62mm because people were having setting issues when swapping their Omni from piece to piece.

Or maybe George and team can just make the Omni condensers a little longer so the choice is there to fully close off air dilution. It would make so much more sense, if u can dial it fully open when shouldn’t you be able to dial it fully closed

Where has the time gone?
My sincere apologies if that has been mentioned already somewhere in this thread, but has anyone of you ever tried an alcohol lamp as heat source for the Vapcap? I could imagine that it works quite well, but I am sure that somebody has tried it already... Thanks in advance for any insight! :)

Something like this here for example:

I have been using a parafin lamp almost exclusively from my beginning as a VapCaper and I am delighted with this practice.

I'm thinkin there has to be a reason why he isn't. There isn't a lot that DV does accidentally and this is not a new phenomenon...

I don’t completely understand the concept, hopefully @stardustsailor would explain it to us but this is what I was told “If it was completely closed off, then the vapor would leak out into the body around the condenser, so we design it so that some air, however little, can get in through the air port. ”

Edit- for what it’s worth this isn’t really a problem for me, I’ve been blessed with enough tips and options. Mainly this has become another little obsession I’ve been fixated on:haw:

I got my vong stuck in a 14mm adaptor. Wedged in really good. Have briefly tried hot water & trying to drizzle oil down between the glass & wood, but the 2 are really solidified tightly together. So short of having to break to the stem to get it out, any ideas?

If you want to leave it closed you could do it with an oring like a non omni, but you would give away the adjustability. (why isn't that a word?)

Adjustability is a word! Just maybe not in your browser or phone’s dictionary for some reason?

So far I’m not taking full advantage of the Omni’s adjustability, but I do appreciate it and I’ve used it both wide open and closed down to the point the threading is barely connected. I can see myself using both at different times.

For me, I think an M will work for full restriction if I ever really want it, but I generally dislike the amount of restriction I get with the M carb fully closed.

I've found that the tip does require cleaning more often if you don't have some airflow leaking into the area around the base. I make sure I store my long stem tip down so that nothing drips into the stem.

I've been thinking of ways I can introduce a tiny air channel somewhere to prevent this from happening as much but an elegant solution hasn't popped into my head yet.
