Boundless Tera

Guess I'll be keeping tabs on if I see anything funky coming out of my unit until the new models are around. I'll still use it for now, haven't had any issues yet. Good to know I should keep my guard up though.

I guess ill put mine away people really bumming me out over if it's safe to use... Idk anymore. :uhoh:

My first impressions of Tera are great. It's large for a portable but battery life seems to be great. Good even extraction but I'm not scientist. Not a lab rat either .. our health is important. Be careful friends! I'll be around :)

I have to say that if I had one of this units, no matter with batch, I will return it ASAP.

At the same time I'm impressed with Boundless. They found about the problems and tried to srt them, they fuck again and took it seriously. It has to be hard to fire a friend, even when bad decisions cost you thousands of dollars.

All my respect and support, still here waiting for a proper Tera.

I don't know any of the Boundless people involved and have only watched short stretches of a couple of their early live streams so I can't comment on any personnel issues or restructuring that they have gone through.

I have seen articles where Randall was referenced as the "owner" while announcements of his departure describe him as "former CEO".

What I do know is that in a 35-40 year career as a Program Manager for high tech products (mostly telecom core network equipment) it was a CONSTANT battle with Sales and Product Management to not rush new product releases. Prod Mng and Sales rountinely make schedule commitments for the roll out of new products and then push hard to stick to these schedules almost no matter what test results or product readiness. They push for patches and band-aids and to get product shipping because its not going to be their problem when the shit hits the fan in the field (queue up the Program Manager for that shit storm).

Its an age old story and its kind of like hyenas and lions...both are in the same ecological niche, but have very different priorities.

It is my considered opinion, and not just because I was on the receiving end of these rushed products, that utterly complete and thorough testing is worth it even at the cost of release schedule slip. And for just the reasons we see here. It takes years to build a good reputation but only a short time to destroy one and then years to win back customer trust.

I gather Randall was either the source of the push to get the Tera out (perhaps especially the second shipment which still had the silicone spacer adjacent to the heater) or at least was the sacrificial lamb.

I do not currently own a Boundless device but I always rather liked these guys and felt that they were trying to bring a good product to the market for a reasonable cost. I hope they get back on their feet, resolve these issues, and are successful in the future.

One of you guys please post in another thread to let us know when boundless sorts their shit out. I don't own one and it wouldn't make sense to watch a thread for a vape I don't own and got recalled. Like if any of y'all are fans and want to give FC a heads-up when the dust has settled.

hey doggo this is the best show in town to watch :haw:
not sure how exactly you're expecting someone to give you a heads up in another thread, but it appears like @BigJr48 took it upon himself, so you're good :p

So here is my Tera story. I'm in he UK.

I got one unit for £140, which smoked and smelled bad, so I returned it to the seller. This first unit had the original water pipe adapter (WPA) and so was from the first batch.

Then I got another unit from Vaposhop which was discounted at £150. This also smoked and smelled bad. It had the updated WPA but I could not flip the screen. I also returned this unit.

I then ordered a unit directly from Boundless for about £160 and £180 after import taxes. I placed the order after reassurance from Boundless about safety (message at end of post). Since placing this order Boundless's web site has shown the Tera as out of stock. I finally got this 3rd unit which also had the new WPA and this time I could flip the screen. This unit smells bad but does not smoke like the first two. It does taste a little funny so I'm running it dry and blowing air through to try and clear this out.

Now I've just got an email from Vaposhop saying they are recalling all Tera units. (I've added the email below.)
I really like the basic design of the Tera, that's why I got it. Just don't trust this 3rd unit, so I've raised a ticket with Boundless requesting a replacement without Teflon.

I find the reassurances and reduced prices a bit disconcerting. Even in the email below from Vaposhop they say there is only a risk if over heated.... but how does that happen, the temperature is limited and there are no guide lines to using the unit. (yes I know using it in concentrate mode, but that is an advertised function)
I really want to keep this unit as I've waited so long and I've no other working vape so I'm forced to smoke.
Maybe sometimes it is better to smoke.

Email from Vaposhop
Good afternoon,

We are very sorry to inform you that we have discovered that the new Boundless Tera is currently unfit for use. There have been several well founded reports around the world about the integrity of the teflon coating on the heating chamber. When accidentally overheating the Tera, this teflon coating could degrade over time.

We believe that this could be harmful for your health and this is not tolerable. We have been in close contact with Boundless about this issue and they support our opinion that we should recall those units from our valued customers immediately and replace them.

Let us remind you that there is no direct risk involved during the initial, normal use of this vaporizer.

As your trusted vaporizer supplier, we are taking full responsibility. This means that we are recalling all Tera vaporizers that have been sent out. We therefore ask you to respond to this e-mail in order to receive the pre-paid return label to ship your vaporizer back to us free of charge.

You may choose one of the following options:
1. Be the first to receive a new Boundless Tera from a new batch including some goodies (estimated time of arrival unknown)
2. Get a full refund with 15% discount on your next order.
3. Get a different model with a 20% discount on the unit.

Please respond to this email with your chosen option (1, 2 or 3). Our team will make sure you receive the return label and get updated on the next steps.

While we regret the whole situation, both Boundless and we are working hard to resolve this issue as soon and best as we can. We are of course not only good partners with Boundless but also very close with our community, that means you!

We expect Boundless to publish an offical statement soon and we will keep you updated during the recall process.

If you have any feedback you’d like to share with us, you are more than welcome to do so. Our customer support team is ready to answer all your feedback and questions!

Best regards from Amsterdam,

Kind Regards,

VapoShop

Hello ,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues still. The best way to tell that you do not have a recall Tera is look at the WPA it should have stainless steel metal bottom. I assure you that the relaunched Tera's are safe and all issues with the originals have been resolved.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you for your patience.

Message from Boundless a few weeks ago.

At least they admitted it.

Both my original and replacement CFV absolutely stank of chemicals, so I contacted Boundless and even sent the link to the PIU teardown, where plastic tape could clearly be seen in the airpath.

Until that point, CS had been very friendly and responsive. However, after this mail I did not get a further response. I would advise all vapers to think carefully before ordering a product from this company. I certainly will never again touch one of their vapes.

Bad design is bad design. Ignorance is no excuse.

This is very concerning... If this really happened it means some of the new Teras were re-packed 1st version :bang:

Recall from Vaposhop but nothing as yet from Boundless.
Boundless have not done a recall just refunded or replaced.

The first recall started the same, it was the vendors that decided to recall before bndls.. I guess we'll see if other vendors join..

I have a second gen Tera and also received the recall mail from Vaposhop.
I was first thinking of waiting for the third gen Tera but I'm in doubt now to exchange it with the S&B Mighty. Any one who has tried both units ? Is the Mighty an upgrade or more like a side-grade ?

Mighty is a great vape, just for me doesn't have the function of swapping out the batteries

cmon its not all bad news - I thought I heard eric say on last livestream that Tera's without Teflon (lets call it TWT :)) is scheduled for some milestone (maybe for internal Boundless testing) June 1.

Good to know.. +I appoint you our chief livestream notifier

Do you guys have any other suggestions for changes in the Tera v3 aka TWT? If you write them here, notoriousLrg will communicate them to boundless
It'd be nice to have another feature other than no teflon, which you have no way to check

Well sent back my newest Tera to PIU for full refund. PIU has been a solid company through the hole ordeal  It was never used and its been sitting on my bench doing nothing but sitting there

I was planning on waiting for the newest Tera.

VAS came on strong and bought a Dynavap M 2018. Well I love it so much I plan on using the refund to build a new Omni XL  Thanks @CarlosSpiceyWeiner

Maybe after the Tera3 comes out and is bulletproof for an extended time Ill take another crack at one :mental:

I'm thinking it might save them more money to just scrap the Tera all together and continue on with the CFX 2.0

I know how shitty that sounds but they have to be losing out pretty good by now. Maybe have some special for the CFX 2.0 that the early Tera adopters that had to go through all the crap get. I'd rather that then another what seems like by now, cursed Tera. I'm sure most everyone is turned off of it by now.

Well my 2 pennies would say

1. Individual battery level indication.
2. USB C, fast charging and running from power supply, as well as Micro USB.
3. Battery Case loose
4. Battery Temp sensor and turn off.
5. New WPA designed to fit the molding better.
6. WPA tapered slightly smaller.
7. multiple pressing the buttons speed needed to be reduced.
8 Removable loading chamber.
9. Button quality improved.
10. Vibration alert to match the crafty, ie short indications when its switched on to heat up
11. Possibility to fit 20700 batteries.
12 - 100. NO PLASTIC SMALL/TASTE, the fundamental design not to give you cancer.
