Awesome guys....thanks a ton!

Quick question....cause they do not state size.....how tall is the one you have Hogni?

I see they have two variants of this design. I am looking to have this with my argo in a small pack.

taller one...5 inches?...

Mirroring my post in the cheap HQ bubbler thread, I just ordered a pair of these from Sunshinestore on DHgate. I'm going to make a stubby vapcap to match and hopefully have a neat little bubbler rig. They shipped today!

And an 45 and 90 degree version of this Ash catcher

I don't have it to my hands atm but at least 5 inches. Without your measures I'd have guessed 6 or 7 inches (height of mp)

I’m receiving a Tubo Flam in the next few days, and am looking for a J Hook or regular glass tube to use with it. I want it to be pocketable so as small as possible would be best, anyone have any suggestions?

Someone asked in a recent post for a sherlock that was a longer length. Can't find the post here so will also cross-post in the cheap, china glass thread.

Pricey, but long:

Wow, I have been literally looking for this j hook for close to a year:o. How the hell did you find it?! I goggled "gear sherlocks, gear j hooks, gear glass" and the only retailer was TV and they stopped carrying it. Anyway I wish the shipping wasn't so expensive, I would love to find this from an American site. Thanks for keeping my dream alive:haw:

FYI/FWIW, I've been told GEAR discontinued making these j-hooks, so it will eventually be extinct. The pic on the 12-inch product's page that dear @Summer linked appears (to me) to be the 16-inch version they also made. I'd been told from a few sources that these were made in Canada for the Gear premium line, not sure if it's true but at any rate, it is nice glass and quite a bit thicker than any of my other j-hooks.

Don't know about this shop at all now but when I was looking months ago, a few smaller Canadian HS sites supposedly had them but were actually out of stock. Well worth the price imo, but that shipping is expensive, almost doubling the cost to US. And that would kill the entire she-bang for me personally, making it almost 50$US approximately, off the top of my noggin. But that's nothing for many people, I suppose; we all have different priorities on which things we'll spend more cash on so no judgement.

I really love the 16-inch version w/18mm joint and it finished my line-up of production j-hooks but was the most $ by a margin. Most are between 9-11.5 inches long & 18mm, except for a baby 7-inch, 14mm dubbed "The Traveler". While each is slightly different and I do use them all regularly, I would quit them all if I could only keep "Gandalf". I thought it might be too ridiculously long and impractical, but it makes a session magical, it's great fun to watch vapor traveling that length right into my kisser.

I like the amazing flavour j-hooks provide, smoothing & cooling but not causing lots of condensation. I've got a couple of irons in the fire for customs in 2018 that are different looking to the standard profile and will hopefully behave differently but I am definitely hooked on this subcategory of glass acquisition!

I'm happy to see this thread get some attention and love, I feel a certain kinship with the good members reviving it recently. @CarolKing turned me onto the joys of j-hooks originally and I'll be forever in her debt, I never dreamed I would have so many but we have so little control over these strange afflictions...

How’s the drag with the extra length?

pxl_jockey

Just a dude
@almost there I've never noticed any drag with it at all. The diameter of tube is more slender and with the glass thickness, the length doesn't increase drag in the slightest. I was a little worried tbh, but very glad because I wouldn't have liked that at all. I dislike having to clear lots of dead air, this isn't that.

Thanks for that mention.....it's awesome!

Thanks for that hook up G-Hopper! Got it and I like it quite a bit.....use it with my argo and air2 all the time. I use water in it and it works very well. The bubbles of water come up to the mouthpiece but stop about 3/4 inch from the outlet and never further.

And with the Argo

I pulled the trigger on this. First and only J-hooks in my collection...I simply couldn't find it anywhere else at a comparable price. FWIW, I contacted GEAR Re: this specific piece and received the following reply:

"Thank you for your email. The GEAR Premium J-Hook is made overseas, however they're currently being discontinued. We do have several left in stock, but do not sell direct. You can simply ask (***insert store name***) to order one in for you if they're our of stock."

Lately I've been hitting my pieces dry - seems like a natural progression to one of these.

They have arrived.....

I am extremely pleased with the quality of these pieces at $35 CAD each. I really only needed one, but shipping was going to be $17, so I added the second piece to bring shipping up to $18 (made me feel better somehow). I could not find a matching price from any stocked retailer online.

The glass is thick and feels solid to the touch. Balance is excellent, and feels natural while resting in the hand. The mouth control on these units is something I have been searching for, for a long time. I once had a bent stem that came with my EV-2 that tapered down to the tiniest opening. I loved the control of that stem (RIP), and these hooks take that control to the next level. The long one measures out to 17" and looks absolutely ridiculous while in use. I feel like I'm playing a glass saxophone. I've been going back and forth between units and the differences are quite noticeable. The smaller piece is more of a ripper and the longer unit a sipper. I prefer the longer one as I'm all about taste, however, know that I will only be using it in the comfort of my own home. The 12" is the traveler...

thanks for the picture, I've been pondering this one for a few weeks because of the shipping fee. Did you order it from thadankshop or jupiterglass?

@almost there - I ordered from thabongshop via the direct links @Summer provided. They had to special order the long piece as it was not stocked, but that wasn't an issue at all. I've always wanted to get a quality j-hook and was pondering the OGB offerings prior to this purchase. It's the gradual taper from joint to the mouthpiece that makes these really special in my books. I wouldn't think twice about ordering again. And FWIW, thabongshop added a load of bonus goodies if your into combustion.
