rosin on plates, how to clean ?

How would one clean some blowout rosin from their plates, to then consume it?
Prefer without alcohol methods! Pic looks worse than it was--it was mostly just the outer outlines.

Newbie here and this was on initial REPRESS so 2nd press of same mtr. Cranked up the pressure and
temp a wee bit, and it erupted.

Learning as I go. Second press was very angular/ irregular mess of taking orig thin puck and break in 6 pieces and try a "bottle Tech" stack---freehand with no bag ;) So how'd that work for ya?
Why it fell apart as I was trying to load the press.

How do you best prepare a second squish? My supply is so limited that I need to get all that I can.
It starts as a very hard flat puck so what is best? Probably for direct parchment method as my load was 0.7 gram nug.

Not sure on the first question, perhaps you could gently collect with a razor blade? Or maybe try and wipe it off with parchment and use a cold pack to cool the parchment when collecting.

Take your chip from the first press and break it in half, then stack one piece on top of the other abs squish again. I'm currently re-pressing at 225 on the PID.

It doesn't look like there's much there so I would just clean it off.

I WOULD NOT USE A RAZOR BLADE ON THE PLATES.

However, if you want to reclaim it, get the plates up to heat. Then, put a piece of parchment between the plates and squeeze them together real slowly. As they come together and press against the parchment, pull the parchment toward you and out from in between the plates.

This will 'wipe' the plates with the parchment and then you can use your standard collection tool to clean it off the parchment.

I often do it this way. The Kirkland parchment I use bleeds and I often end up with rosin on my plates. This simple 'squeeze and pull' method works to keep them clean while I'm using them. I always wipe them clean with a soft cloth or paper towel after I am done with a pressing session.

Just pushing the two plates together on the heat up should exert more force on the anodized finish than a gentle scoot with a scraper, especially if the oil is warm. Could possibly try a rubber spatula or something.

I didn't see the pic when I posted, I think it's gonna be hard to collect regardless being spread so thin.

The Kirkland parchment I use does this too, I hate it, it should not be bleeding through, I don't think it's the same one they used to sell.

I'm gonna try 35 lb parchment paper next.

Heat those plates up to 550, get a straw and hit it. But seriously it doesn't look like enough to mess with. A little oil when heated thins and spreads, so it looks like more than what it is.

Damn, just bought Kirkland 2 pack (at least it's cheap). Do you guys find Reynolds parchment better in regards to bleeding?

I think Reynolds has more than one type but the stuff I used was about the same as the Kirkland. I just ASSumed I was pressing too hard and too hot.

I have tried 4 or 5 brands and Kirkland is the best (so far).

I have some Reynold 'Baking Paper' that is parchment one side and foil the other side. I'll give that a try.

?? On my first and only squish, I used the pricey Rosin Tech pre-cut parchment.
Parchment under puck came out greenish hue, like it absorbed something but not on the surface
where you can scrape it off.

Is this normal? When you lift your puck, what is parchment like directly under it??

MinnBobber,
When I pressed some Cinderella99, it left giant purple spots on the parchment. LOL I'll see if I can find a pic.

EDIT: Not sure how well this shows it but it's an example, at least.

The pigment of the herb is bleeding into the parchment.

I am using the reynolds cookie sheets, they are pretty sturdy, but I use them doubled up. Not exactly the cheapest method but I bought a 4 box pack on amazon for a decent price and I wanted something I could grab quick without having to break out scissors. So far no tears or bleed through.

Right now with my method of using a filter bottle tech style, I am hitting pressures that would have been way too high with single nugs (2500 PSI) I dont see much discoloration in the parchment at all, in fact once the collection is done I just see the puck imprint.

After "sleeping on my blowout" re-press, I think there was another problem---another learning experience.
Besides upping the temp and pressure, in order to get the 6 little puck pieces to form some kind of "pile",
I placed them directly into the crease.

The blowout was 1/4 of the puck poking thru that crease. It seems that's a bad idea---need to leave room for puck to expand in all directions :)

this was with Strongway 10 ton. With 0.7 gram it was a small footprint plus I upped temp to 220 and briefly upped pressure to 3.5 ton--wanting to experiment.
The repress puck was a horrible jumble of 6 plus pieces of orig puck stacked in an irregular/ sharp edged falling apart heap....

I did get some repress rosin which I collected on top of my orig press rosin (from 0.7 gram) so that golden goodness was turned into a darker mess :(

It seems to me that something like a 2 gram puck might be easier to work with---fit my prepress better (0.7 gram sits in about 1/3 of the prepress profile) and yield more than a "smidgen" :)
I just have a tough time using 2 grams from my small stash---in one shot :(

The good news is that I'm learning. Also very glad I went with a press that had pressure gauge as that makes for better experimenting.

And that rosin smell, oh my... I want to hang the rosin or the used puck under my nose, wow, wow ,wow !

I will say that the smell has not transferred to an OMG VapCap experience. It gets the job done--big cloud from tiny dab but the taste was nothing special. I have miniPortside and was doing click plus 2-3 seconds. VapCap will likely be my dab tool until I get into rosin more.

All the rosin tech info here has been a great help in selecting equipment and technique

The crafty SS pads in the vapcap work well for rosin, takes some time to get the chamber toasty but the flavor continues a bit longer than flowers I'd say. I use a triflame torch 1 second past click, 2 seconds once vapor production slows. I just smear a dab of rosin on the SS pad, press it down on my silocobe mat then cap it and start with the torch.

Thanks. I was very impressed with VapCap for rosin. I vape 95% plus at home so VapCap mostly loses out to miniVAP, Herbalizer, others for flower but it worked much better than anticipated, maybe cuz I manage to overshoot temps with flower BUT that higher temp equals proper temp for rosin ;)

IMO, I wouldn't pre-press a 2g load at all on those 3x5" plates. You have plenty of surface area and PSI.

Also, IMO a wax pen will take you further with your rosin micro dosing should you choose to go down that rabbit hole. The flavor off a clean ceramic donut is still some of the best I've ever had.

Guess I wasn’t very clear before. Whose plates, coils, and controller are you using, Bob?

A lil banger hanger and a quartz banger and torch and you got yourself a nice lil dabbing setup that works with microdosing as well, plus petite and you can stow 'er away nice and easy. Quick cleanup with some hot water after each session so the smell is minimal. I bet that would give you a serious appreciation for what you have before you @MinnBobber, all vapor no waste. There are a lot of "dab pro's" who have torch time + cooldown time for nice tasty dabs.

Course there's also the enail, my personal favorite, but now we're talking harder to stash and less portable.

@baron, yes, sorry I was thinking press meant hydraulic press. My plates/press is indeed the dabpress 3x5 S caged setup.

Being a newbie, that dabpress setup/quality/price rock it for me. I needed to have easy to setup equipment. Setup was:
roll the benchtop press from the corner to the power outlet. Get the dabpress box: controller unit is bigger than expected but lightweight, and the caged press. Lay the caged unit in the press, set controller on table and plug in. Good to go within 2 minutes to setup.

The 3 x 5 plates for others can handle a huge (to me) amount or my small one nug runs. And that size is very manageable/ easy to box up etc.
For me, it has a huge range to go bigger in future and the cages look like they should last a long time

@psychonaut Thanks as I do have a banger/ banger hanger/ "thingy of some sort" that I have never used.
I don't have big torch BUT a few 1/2/3 flame jet torches for VapCaps. Would the 3 flame be best/would it work?
How friggin hot do you get it???
