VapCap Induction Heater for Desktop and in Car Use

Well, mine is the JarHead (plugin) so it's isn't a battery/charge issue for me.

I did notice the click was taking a long time, before it went dark. I wonder if the cap was getting hot and just not clicking for some reason...

I played with this problem some more last night and it IS very intermittent so it is hard to capture. It ONLY seems to happen with the Ti Omni and it only seems to happen after the tip is warm/hot. I don't think it has ever happened on the first heating. I didn't get a lot of practice in last night so I will work on it some more tonight.

Are there other users out there with JarHeads and Ti Omni's that have never experienced this? While it may be something about the Ti, I don't think the Omni condenser is a factor, so a Ti bodied UNI may suffer the same fate (assuming it is not my cap or something unique to my setup causing this).

@Summer I'm not sure how old the cap is, but it is dedicated to the LE tip I am using on the Omni as the LE tip needs a more squeezed cap. I will try to play around with different caps, and maybe a different tip...

Other than this cap they seem to move around between my different VCs.

Added: Just wanted to add that the cap works normally and well with a torch lighter. It clicks as expected. It is only with the JH there is an issue.

And Finally: OK, it's the cap. Once the cap gets hot it starts misbehaving. It does the same thing in my VongXL, it doesn't need the Ti stem to fail. I will just have to dedicate a new cap to the LE tip wherever it ends up. It is interesting that it works better with a torch and I may keep it as an emergency cap <g> but it comes out of rotation right now. I don't know if this is the reason, but it IS the most concave of my caps so there may be a little less room in there...

Forgive me if this has been discussed already - but, if you were to only heat your vapcap with an IH from the day you got it, would the cap remain looking nice? Or does it still get discoloured?

I can't say from experience but the question has been asked before and I THINK the answer was that the cap will discolor a little bit but not nearly as much as it does with flame.

I'm sure someone will come along and verify this.
Thanks @Hackerman. Hows your simplified IH research coming? :p
I'm reading all about them now and would really like to try building one, but I'd like to keep it simple as well.

@wam I just got the mosfet today. I was hoping to do without it but I can't seem to get a common switch to work. I'll have my new power supply tomorrow so I can run a few tests.

I'll let you know as soon as I have something that works.

Salutations,

The ~0.8 g "susceptors" happen to weight nearly the same as a 1 mm thick x ~12.5 mm dia. 17-holes metal disc located in my fully-customized VaporGenie pipe:

(Each hole is #53, e.g. 1.5113 mm dia.)
IMO that should make the IH driver compatible, which would give access to some alternative consumption method relatively to dry flowers.

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

I received my skeletor from @Pipes two days ago and I must say I'm really happy with it. I happened to find a perfectly matching tin box, but after placing the skelly inside, it somehow shortened. When inserting the cap, the led just blinks up for a fraction of a second, then stops. No heating. If I take skelly out and use it on the table or in a ramen bowl, or works as expected. Does anyone know which parts I could insulate to have it working in the metal case?

Thanks again, @Pipes, for taking vapcaps to the next level!

Can the PSmini be used indifferently in Europe and North America or are there any compatibility issues at the power/câble level ?

Hey MrMonss,
Yeah they can be used in Europe. The supplied charger can work on varying voltages, ranging from 100v to 240v I belive. The only thing you might need would be an adapter to fit your socket, however pipes supplied 1 for me with both Portside and PSmini

My Skelly in the fish food tub just keeps going, I'm on an 800mah battery now so my run times are a little less but it's still a full day and a bit of vaping for me. 12 bowls instead of 15.

Mom of the Goons asked me for a Skelly Enclosure so a Skelly Enclosure she got.

I am looking at options to build around my newly acquired skelly and I think I may have it figured out now. I am looking at a 4.125” sq “Softball display case” that says it is made from “acid free crystal styrene”. Looking around online I found some material specifications for Polystyrene which says it has a melting temp of 210-249 C or 410-480 F. Do you think this will be enough to withstand any potential heat from the heater? Has anyone used anything similar to house their unit?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you are going to get much heat outside the receiver tube so it shouldn't be a problem. I have the plugin one (JarHead) but I have noticed no warming of the glass or the metal top. The batteries (on the Skelly) may warm a little on heavy use, but not very much and nothing like what you would need to harm your box.

I also need to say again how much I love that Bocote box PP made above. Every time I see it it calls to me.

Hey guys, my PS mini is on the way and couldn’t be more pumped!

Shipping question: for those in the US, how long did shipping take? My package was “accepted” in Canada on may 4th. But no movement whatsoever since then... not sure if held up in customs or something?? Just curious what others timeframes looked like

You may be kept in suspense, if the delivery happens like mine did. Once it hit USPS, the updates to the system were non-existent. After thinking the post office had lost it, it magically appeared in my mailbox.

I just looked back and mine was accepted on May 3rd. And it was delivered yesterday. So hopefully you’ll get it today or tomorrow.

This is just a general "thank you" to @Pipes and the other FC users who contributed to this design! I built this very analog, bare-bones version of this IH last night, and have been blown away by how easy it is to use and how well it works! I have mine powered by a 12V marine battery at the moment, and it loves have all of those amps available. I am inserting my tip the full length of the tip (but only the length of the tip) and I am hearing it click in a super-speedy 1-2 seconds. The resulting hits are flavorful and large.

I am very impressed with how well this thing works, even in this very bare bones construction. Full credit where credit is due - thank you for spreading the word on this and sharing your work!
