I must ask this question of anyone with a V2 hopper.

While the backend dial is smooth like glass, as @MoltenTiger and I have stated earlier, does it feel like it has a bit of "play" in it? Please allow me to explain... By "play", I mean a "catch" (as converse as these terms are, they both, together, describe the symptom).

Consider a "notch" (T1 to T2, T2 to T3, etc, is "one notch").

If you swing the dial all the way in one direction, and then - just as you begin to head back in the other direction - within one notch's worth of movement, is there a slight 'bump' in the flow of that return movement?

Pointedly, when I slowly and attentively twist the dial back and forth about 1-1/2 notches worth, I get this "play/catch" effect that is on each side of the twist.

I do engineering stuff, and these kinds of things make me imagine that "until the catch", there is no actual shift in setting, no actual movement of the internal part(s) that "do the work" to change the Temp.

I do hope this made sense to someone. :mental:

I'll have a look at it soon. It seemed quite rigid, but I did notice that the dial range is from notches 1.05-5.05 (ie. it doesn't quite line up with the notch when fully rotated either way).

At a guess, I'd say the back end dial is a potentiometer, and they don't necessarily have dial feedback with adjustment. The feedback could just be caused by the mechanical movement as the metal sleeves rotate, similar to spinning the button around which has feedback from the internal spring.

I'll have a look soon like I said, I'm about to take the back-end to work to heat shrink the clip to prevent scratches.

@JoeMama: I noticed what you’re talking about right away, but I perceived it as “grittiness”. So at the edges of the dial it isn’t so smooth and you can feel the grittiness. For what it’s worth my fully functioning Ti is gritty all the way through the dial.

Based on feel alone I’m guessing the grittiness is simply an aesthetic issue that doesn’t affect the temp setting at all. I do know my SS body seems to perform the same with both the smooth SS backend and the gritty Ti backend.

Thanks, Vapor-Eyes...

I know the grittiness thing ng yo describe; that is what I get on another one of my TI’s. Not to be confused with what I’d described, this “play” (and, @MoltenTiger , you may be right re your theory of what tha feeling is) happens at ALL points, anywhere. At any setting, depending on which way it was last rotate, will “slip”a tiny bit before it takes on more resistance to the force turning it. Just a tiny haptic sense, rather than a gritty one. A bump, if you will. As Clouseau would say it, of course. “Yes, a bemp”. :sherlock:

In any case, I fired this unit up, and Voila!, this thing cooks very well. FINALLY, I can use T3 and observe an appreciable output. My other two do not have this apparently broader range. They gotta be past T4 to get clouds at all.
Hopefully HL will get more lean and mean with their RMA processs so I can get those looked at eventually.

This is probably a dumb question, but has anyone noticed the new hoppers seem louder than older ones? I have a SS from December 2016, it makes a slight clicking sound that I can't hear a foot or two from my face, but can clearly hear with the unit up to my ear. My new Ti unit is so loud I can hear it at arm's length, it's probably also because I'm in a quiet room and wouldn't be super noticeable with background noise, but the loudness of it definitely caught me off guard.

Also does anyone feel like HL is cutting corners on quality? I posted yesterday about the clicker on my hopper having a color issue, but also last night noticed the silver part has some deep scratches and more importantly the base where the silver meets the colored body is a bit chewed up feeling which seem to affect the final quarter turn for screwing things in. Plus the tip doesn't sit flush all around the body on my new unit while the old one does.

Also are the boxes supposed to have stickers with ID codes on them? My Old SS box has a nice sticker with that and a QR code and such but the Ti unit has no such sticker, is the warranty just linked to my account or the number on the hopper itself or is that ID code somehow relevant?

Have you attempted to register your Hopper?
When doing so, 2 numbers are required. First is the serial # from the clicker and second is the ID # from the sticker on the box. I just checked this again in the "Your Grasshopper" section of the "Account" page, under "Register +".
I still think you should email customer service (support@grasshoppervape.com) right away about the color issue on your clicker and now about the sticker. My feeling about the rest of the issues you mention is that you may not get very far in pursuit of satisfaction (I think the clicking is 'normal'). Maybe I'm wrong; try stacking up all of these issues in 'priority order' and see if you can get them to fix all of them.

The clicking is pretty normal — the device is named after that sound, after all.

As for quality issues, my total guess is that they now have to be a little less picky about minor cosmetic issues because they're so backlogged. It's better for them to just get less-than-pristine, but perfectly functional Hoppers out the door. Again, total guess.

I emailed them Monday about the cosmetic issues, didn't notice that one box had the sticker and the other didn't until after I'd emailed and wasn't sure if something changed. I'm not even sure I ever registered my first hopper with them.

EDIT: I just checked the warranty registration, my SS unit isn't even on there but the electric blue one is, maybe the new units are being pre-registered now and they aren't doing the stickers? I'm not sure but that would explain why mine is already registered and why the site still has the option to input info for older units.

to be honest my hoppers did perform best with a full bowl... with microdosing I did not get big clouds and the abv was more greenish the brown...
You have to hit it more slowely on a partial pack. Full pack slows down the hot air and allows it to heat the bud, if you suck to fast on a partial pack air goes right through and the bud doesn't heat up the same

Aight guys I got my 'hopper. Bronze Ti with some wear, external charger and 4 GHB1 batteries.

Holy HECK. Does this thing RIP. I really hope it won't die on me! $140 CAD for the whole package. The 5 second heat up is bonkers. I almost feel like the Titanium grasshoppers are a little too light, and I'd prefer some more 'heft' with an SS one. Hmm...

So I've already asked about the PFE and most of ya'll say GET IT! I want to get a hydro tube, anyone have one for theirs? Looks to be amazing!

It doesn't get too hot until after rip 3-4. It's pretty manageable, especially with el condom.

How about GHB2 batteries? I get about 1.5 bowls per charge. Do the GHB2 batteries improve much?

Thanks!
Wouldn't recommend a hydotube. There have been concerns that holding the vape upside down leads to vapor condendsing on the internal and leading to failures. Just get a normal glass piece that keeps it oriented up if possible

That's a "Hemper-Sherlock Bubble Rig" that I found on DankGeek.com. Well, not really found, I succumbed to an e-mail sale but what else is new. It's a nifty little fits in the palm of your hand, throw it in bag and take it with you glass piece.
It's a 14mm joint, takes the hopper with the PFE and I've used it with my vapcaps as well.

I'm very patiently waiting on an electric blue Ti that I purchased, thanks to one of those aforementioned email sales, back in January. I'm glad to read that people are receiving units. They told me mine would be ready soon. Not as soon as they told me, but we know how that goes.

That thing is awesome. Perfect size for tucking away in my household. 14mm to 10mm for a vapcap?

So they replaced the back end on my 2-year-old ss hopper and now it's awesome. Have had it back for a few days and no way it ever performed this well. Plentiful clouds even at 3, batt life greatly improved, no more hot back end, LED stays solid until battery is actually low. Together with PFE, the experience is greatly improved.

Did have a bit of a scare earlier today when it went directly to blue, but blowing into the holes to dislodge some wayward speck easily resolved it, as I had once read somewhere to do.

It had been so long since using it I had forgotten how freeing this device is! What a happy surprise that it works so well as I had pretty much written it off and moved on, what with all the issues and negative reports. Even when it was on its way back to me, I had planned on it being backup to my Fury 2 when out & about... but now it's the Fury that will be the backup :D

GHL's honest blog post also gives me hope about their future. No offense to their former CS rep, nice person but clearly lacked both organizational and technical skills.... unlike their new rep Drew, who completely rocks. When he took over my ticket he proactively answered questions that had been left unanswered weeks earlier by the former rep, was altogether helpful & professional, and got me back my hopper super-charged.

Here's hoping all hoppers are happily hopping soon.
:peace:

This is the first time I've seen a "stubby" mouthpiece... perhaps an early beta unit?

Is that the picture you’re referring to? I don’t see a banner when I visit the site on my iPhone. Your pic looks like the standard mouthpiece, and not the pfe.

Got some amazing bud for the first time in a couple weeks tonight and happy to report that the blue Ti hopper is still a monster. I'm about as high as I can (semi-)comfortably be right now

Only good thing about not having regular access to good weed.

I just received my two grasshoppers (1 ss 1 blue ti) in the mail after 3 months in warranty repairs. No testing yet, but the heaters appear to be rebuilt (white ceramic under screen looks new to me?) and the back-ends on both are much smoother than in the past (especially the TI).

I would like to clean the chambers, as these were sent in/back without mouthpieces. Is this a) necessary b) safe to swab with iso/water/dry paper towel? The last thing I want to do is wreck these after they've been gone for so long.

Hey, congrats on return of your hoppers!
For chamber, you can swab with a lightly iso moistened q-tip, hold hopper upside down so none can flow below screen.
If your back ends are smoother, do you think they were rebuilt/reconditioned, or do you have new serial #'s (i.e., new back ends)?

My Ti Bronze went in early Feb for RMA and is still in purgatory as I have mentioned before.

I have seen a couple of folks on VLF comment that their RMA returned unit either did not work or failed again very quickly.

This is only a couple of reports and I have no way to put this in perspective. But for god's sake I hope they aren't doing that again. This was not at all unusual previously and really indicated the insufficiency of their fault detection/isolation built into the device and their test rigs.

If they start shipping repaired units that are non-functional again, I'm afraid there will be no defending them.

However, as I said...this is just a couple of reports and we will have to see in the fullness of time.
