Hey, that’s me!
I am bummed I will have to wait a little longer to get the LB in my hands, but I know it will be worth the wait!!
Gnarly walnut can be hard to find, rare even. When building furniture, I'd always be drawn to the crazy grained pieces for table tops. It takes on an almost quilted appearance, with what appears to be waves in the grain. Tough to plain, finish sometimes, but worth it. I'm not even listing this on the website, because I've got so little of it, but it is an extra $20 per unit. And Jill, please don't be bummed, this is gonna be one cool looking LB.

Hey @RushVaporTrails ! Indeed , welcome to FC and thanks for the shout out! Posting gets easier after your First Post, you'll be posting videos too in no time, lol .. happy you are joining the conversation and early congrats on the Quilted Maple LB!! The wait won't be much longer and you'll have a "first batch Exotic Woods" unit! Nice!

Thanks @P.A.M. appreciate the welcome and yes as a guy who owned a Suhr Modern with a quilted maple top, as soon as @Bravesst mentioned exotic woods, I knew I had to jump on it.

Welcome to the thread @RushVaporTrails, and can't wait for batch 6 myself - exotic woods, Woo Hoo!. Just set someone up with some really gnarly black walnut as well.

Thanks to you as well @Bravesst for the welcome.

It did cross my mind when forum members say they will do a review of a new product that everyone seems to love, what happens if they don't love it?

I say this because I said in my very first post that I plan on doing a review of LB when it arrives in Batch 6.

I feel confident from everything I have read and seen (@P.A.M. youtube) that I will indeed love it.

But I wanna say the LB is going to have stiff competition.

I used a volcano exclusively for about 2 years but the five minute heat up time was killing me when i wanted that quick hit. So i went to portables in the Fury 2 and CFX, two inexpensive portables that are solid and get the job done on the go...(I mostly used the CFX at home with the WPA at 430 degrees)

but then in March I got the 2018 vapcap M.

I was the most skeptical person on this forum about anything from Dynavap, the idea of using a torch was and still is something that doesn't thrill me (i am building my IH now)

But just like a lot of folks, my skeptical thoughts of the M quickly switched to amazement as to what this little thing was capable of. By far to this point in my vaping life, the most intense, strongest face melting hits i could imagine, especially through water.

and when @P.A.M. mentioned that he loaned out his M to a friend cause he doesn't really need it anymore now that he is using the LB, well that upped it to another level.

Here I am thinking, hey, I just got this M and I am surprisingly using it exclusively now (haven't heated up the volcano in quite a while although the vapor is pretty clean and special out of the volcano) but the M gets the job done way more efficiently for me and that besides a little nice flavor in the hits is all I really care about.

So with the M as my current DD, I am really curious what the LB will bring. Will I love the LB and go to it fulltime? maybe spilt the time between the two...

Perhaps each experience will be different enough (like using the volcano) where I will go from one to another just for a little change.

Its funny, when I was a kid, we used to go to the Mall (in the early 80s) and play video games in the Sears where they had an atari set up or colecovision and you could try out the games for hours.

Imagine a nice vape store where you walk in and a store employee says, "Welcome, which vapes would you like to try out today, and of course, try as many as you want, its all complimentary."

That would be fun and I suppose there would be a line out the door.

Gorgeous guitar. Have always loved the look and sound of a Pensa Suhr. Yum.

I might represent a great case study regarding the vapcap and LB. I have 5 vapcaps; '18 M, a short Ti Vong, a long Ti Vong, a carbon fiber XL with Ti MP, and a full Ti Omni XL.

I've discovered that for me, the LB is the perfect daytime/early in the day device. It's easier to sip than the vapcaps which have the tendency to melt my face. Given that the LB is nearly pure convection I can fill it up and sip on a stem over the course of 45 minutes to an hour as I'm doing as I type this, and get great tasting sip after great tasting sip. But, if you want to melt your face the LB can do that too.

And the flavor vs. the vapcaps is IME a huge difference. So much so that I've ordered a vaponic so that I can experience even more flavor with a butane device.

The LB is really versatile, but I'd be surprised if it totally replaces your M; especially when you get the IH working-that's a game-changer for the vapcap. And I say that not because one is better than the other, but because they're both great, but vastly different vaporizers.

For those using top hat/rimmed screens. I think we need to torch our screens more often than the wider mesh screens that are 'stock' on the LB. That finer mesh can really clog easily, even when it doesn't look that dirty. I'm now cleaning mine at the end of every day-I was doing it just once a week.

Here's my 'exotic' baritone. Salvaged Redwood top with highly figured Walnut back and sides and a cherry neck. Kinda like my LB.

As i say in one of my posts , iirc, and just because i am a dynavap fanboy and i really like my ti-woody ( efficiency and best high ever ) i can tell u for sure tha LB is like a convection vapcap, combining amazing smooth tasty and flavorfull hits with the ability to roast the load to perfection, delivering the same high as my ti-woody ! And all that, ON DEMAND , wich is huge plus for me.

So far, LB is my in da house and car DD replacing my beloved arizer air and woody is my love for out and about !

Edit: When i was posting this dint see @beyond6strings post. Very good comparison @beyond6strings and i agree with you 100%

I think for those of us who prefer on-demand, un-regulated devices that the LB and vapcap represent the pinnacle of efficiency and consistent quality. And let's face it, they are fun too aren't they?

I'm already thinking about hitting up @Alan for some custom stems for the LB. And of course, all this talk of exotic woods has me drooling. I wanted to get an LB for my birthday but Providence provided that to me months early. So...Now I'm thinking about something for my Canna-Christmas. Mike will probably be on batch 20 or so by then and may even have the Timber out in the wild too-we forget sometimes here on the LB thread that Mike has designed another vape that would probably suit many of us as well as the LB.

This is a good time to be alive. Great independent music, craft beer, craft weed, craft vaporizers, and craft accessories for your vaporizers.

Great point @beyond6strings. I failed to mention the convection aspect of the LB which is a huge selling point. Even though Boundless tells us the CFX is a convection hybrid, it still cooks material while your not hitting it, maybe not as bad as a conduction chamber.

The idea of on-demand heat on the LB within a few seconds of pushing a button and then taking a draw is so appealing.

Hey, @beyond6strings, the fact that your personal experience with the LB includes sipping on a stem and also face melting huge hits is exactly the versatility I think many of us will love.

I couldn't agree more. As much as I love my vapcaps, and I am a HUGE fanboy and love everything to do with vapcap, I've yet to find a way to sip on a vapcap.

I keep my Ti tips in the smallest position, so it's a bit less than I put in my LB, say .025g in the VC and maybe .040g in the LB. But I get two-three pulls out of the VC and 6-8 out of the LB. During the day I like to extract a little bit at a time, and it's harder for me to do that on the VC. And there's also more convection + conduction on the DV. I like having an almost pure convection piece. I've added a bit of conduction to the LB due to using the top hat screens, but only a very little bit.

So batch 4/5 is down to 16, as four deferred to batch 6 and specialty woods. This worked out for everybody, as I' making really good progress now that I don't have to build any extra wood bodies.

All 16 have gone through the initial test for general function, when assembled, and then the second *quality control* check. This morning I had to check 16 units. No longer do I need to sit with a vape a half a day to make sure it's 100 percent. I've learned exactly what I need to look for - expanding hot air.

Let me explain. When everything lines up, I can feel the hot air / vapor expanding as I press and pull. There should be no delay really with a battery over 375. Press and feel the pressure of the hot air expanding through the stem. It becomes more of a *woosh* than a wispy hit with harsh hot spots.

Today one unit that had passed the initial test, lagged behind the others. I had to work at getting a good hit, trying to get my timing down - felt like I lost *technique* (hate technique). When the air gets hot and expands evenly, it kinda puts the herb in a heat lock - not much fussing necessary as it creates a window for the herb to cook and you to draw. And it doesn't have to be so hot, as there's a lot of heat, with no real harsh hot spots that sneak through.

The unit got a new coil / wiring / switch, so basically it becomes a completely different vape. There was nothing visibly wrong, maybe it was just me, but every vape that leaves here needs to be user friendly. With the way LB is built, this is really no big deal, and clearly the best option to make sure every LB leaves here fully functional. In this environment, selling to the FC community, I can see no other way to be successful, nor would I ever want to ship (or receive) a vape that doesn't work to 100 percent of its potential.

The week ahead will have me finishing backplates / battery gauges / safety tabs / pic tools, and hopefully get to the post office. Next batch is not gonna be over 10, got like five spots left.

Then you are in for a treat my friend!

@beyond6strings and @Zabou do give good insight or comparisons on the LB and vapcap's. It pretty much resumes why I loaned/parted with my vapcap M. it's not that it didn't serve me well, it worked fine , it's that the LB pretty much does to me what the vc does and more , doing it so more instinctively and at your (on) demand.

I was spoiled with convection heat in my Bamboo HI log prior to my vapcap. Flavor and abv perfectness I am no stranger to . I never tried a induction heater with Vapcap and even though it is very efficient in its own and tough , etc, etc, the vapcap never matched the feeling I have with my log . the LB pretty much ranks up there with my Log . That makes my perfect (to me) desktop / portable , convection combo .

I feel quite safe and confident my Lil' Bud won't let me down plus my buddy reports using the vc every so often, so it's serving him well and healthier on someone's lungs then it would be in my pockets .

I've been putting taste aside and reving up the rpm lately , I'm still on 4:20 MTP (Monkey Time pacific)

I'm not sure whose idea it was to make the stems the same lengths as the batts, but it's genius. Got me a very cool, nearly smell proof container to put a couple of stems so I am ready for a bit of a road trip on a fine spring day.

Check it out.

Hello All,

Took a T break all day today. Just firing up LB for the first time today. After all the testing yesterday, I was shot. I slept for 9 hours last night. Tonight will be a very light evening.

LB is an extraction animal. For the first time in many years, the term *too high* has found its way into my vocabulary. When my arms and legs feel heavy, it's time to slow down. I went through a full doob tube in a few hours yesterday morning, and I was kind off my game for the entire day, hence the little break today.

Got lots done, backplates finalized. The backplate is much more work than you'd think, and it always catches me by surprise. The hole for the safety tabs now matches the vent holes - satisfies my OCD as there's now one 5/32 hole on each side of the unit. The tab will have to shrink a bit.

All in all, good day, right on schedule.

Now using a basket screen with a stock lb screen pushed into that upside down so I only have been 1/ 8 inch bowl space. Just keep both screens kind of clean, good micro dose set up.

@beyond6strings great idea have extra stems coming with my LB

The anticipation is gonna be tough for me even more now. Just had knee surgery this morning. Out of work up to 5 weeks, so I'll be on FC alot

The wood choices are very temping but not enough for me to wait, I prefer the contrast look between cherry an walnut. It's great to be able to customize your own if needed, as far as LB wood choices and stems (insert batch 4&5 wood porn here please)

I'm so looking forward to that too high, face melting high your getting:zzz:
Was gonna purchase a dynavap but gonna wait now. If my VAS doesn't flair up again

For now have to sip on a plastic stem until the LB is in my hand.

All ducks are in row, got extra top hat screens, s&b caps, extra batteries and :leaf:
Everybody must get wooded!!

Have to admit I’ve found some pretty cool stuff. I managed to find an old glass one hitter I had that fits just perfectly in the end of the wood stem. (Please try this at your own risk if you try shoving things in your mouth piece the wood can definitely crack; the thing I’m using just so happens to be the literal perfect size.)
At any rate the stem gets lengthened by like 2.5-3 inches roughly and it really makes a world of difference. You just draw straight to the lungs no holds barred, couple that with a steady rotation of the stem with your other hand and you get one smooth, even, tasty rip. Careful though, the extra length in the stem will provide a much cooler hit making it even less noticeable for Lil Bud newcomers when combustion is about to occur (had a friend recently make a big time burn on the load because he couldn’t even feel the vape coming into his mouth).Again just some advanced techniques.

Last night i tried something different too. So far, i usually micro dose and refill whenever needed with great success. Last night though, i had some PC work to do and i wanted a different setup, so that my session will last longer. So, i pushed the screen inside the stem even more, almost where the narrowing begins and filled it up with a super frosty load. We are talking about some nice quantity of herb. Just left some space before stem lips to have room to stir and..... Omg what a LB with a fresh battery can do to a load like this! Vaping heaven with endless vapor. Super thick and tasty. After some brave draws without even one cough, when top of the load took that amazing light golden brown color, i scrapped a bit at the top and stir what left inside the stem, just to discover that beneath that crust, weed was still green, dry from previous hot air that passed through it and ready for some nice extraction. I always get amazed from the potency and thickness of vapor after a good stir. This time the stirring was endless and i found myself vaping this thing till my eyes were shut from that high.
No need to say, i never finished my PC work nor the stem. In fact i left some juice in there for today's session !

Just added myself to waitlist for Timber hopefully have some sweet wood choices for that unit too when available.

I'm confident the timber will be one bad ass unit just by hearing about how great the LB works

I am also really interested in what Mike does with the Timber design.

BTW, if anyone else has struggled to get their flower dried well for vaporizers just do what @Bravesst does; put a few pieces of broken up flower on a sheet of paper and put the paper on top of a lamp for a few minutes. It's perfect. I'd been trying to dry mine in the container, but with limited success-either too dry or too wet. Mike's way to dry is just perfect, and not just for the LB. I think we've all learned by now that dry herb works better for vaping.

So now when I start my day, I pick the strain I want, break up a few pieces and I'm good to go in about 20-30 minutes. This will make life much easier as we move into the humid parts of the year here in New England.

After the next batch or two, I'm going to take Timber back to the drawing board. It should be interesting to see what develops. And about the drying of the herb, I learned that technique from one of the senior members on FC and haven't needed a grinder since. This is a no muss, no fuss system that brings the herb to right where it needs to be pre-vape. You can also just place in a small bowl and put under a desk lamp.

No shop time today, Tuesdays I usually work in Manhattan teaching fire safety. Yup, retired from the FDNY, working for the FDNY, just can't get away from them. But I'm back at it tomorrow, applying all the finishing touches - almost there batch 4/5.

@P.A.M. you are one funny guy!

on a more serious note:
Drying Herb
You want it to crumble easily, but not cook. This is a medium wattage bulb (50 or 60). I'll leave it there about half an hour. An hour would be fine, but not hours. If it doesn't crumble easily into a kind of fluffy powder (not dust), it's still wet. When we smoke, it doesn't really matter, as the heat is so high the moisture is just evaporated, with vaping things are very different. Get the water out so your vape doesn't have to, and you don't have to taste harsh steam.
