Discontinued The Grasshopper

Just received my RMA TI unit (since forever - November). Someday maybe I will see my SS RMA unit (since March).using with PFE (no glass). I’m a one hitter convert.

Some observations.....

They definitely replaced the innards..... and I suspect may have replaced the innards of the backend/switch - it feels ‘tighter’ and new... plus a few signs that look like they took off the serial number cowling while refabbing it.

1) battery lasts longer. I’m getting twice as many “bowls” out of one battery as I was before.
2) heat up is faster.... 3 - 5 seconds versus towards the end 15-20seconds pre-RMA.
3) I’ve actually set it down to 3.5 - 4 on temp dial. Prior I was using it at 5... I can still, but am getting more enjoyable clouds at a lowered temp
4) it feels more solid. This is a subjective comment. It operates differently.. quite honestly like it is new again. In the day I’ve been using it (I promise it is getting a workout), I haven’t noticed any change in how it operates - after a few of the RMAs came back I noticed it degraded pretty quickly... the batteries are lasting longer. Whole unit doesn’t heat up (especially the backend) (the TI unit has been returned 12 or 14 times since I got it). And screwing on the backend is smoother than it was before as well The TI has always felt ‘rough’ when screwing on the backend, versus the SS unit, which was like silk.

The proof is in the pudding... whether it continues to operate this way for a while we will see. However, I am hopeful... this is the best it’s run in quite some time (excluding the loooooonnnnnggggggg wait to come home.

Aight guys I got my 'hopper. Bronze Ti with some wear, external charger and 4 GHB1 batteries.

Holy HECK. Does this thing RIP. I really hope it won't die on me! $140 CAD for the whole package. The 5 second heat up is bonkers. I almost feel like the Titanium grasshoppers are a little too light, and I'd prefer some more 'heft' with an SS one. Hmm...

So I've already asked about the PFE and most of ya'll say GET IT! I want to get a hydro tube, anyone have one for theirs? Looks to be amazing!

It doesn't get too hot until after rip 3-4. It's pretty manageable, especially with el condom.

How about GHB2 batteries? I get about 1.5 bowls per charge. Do the GHB2 batteries improve much?

Thanks!

Hi @deadlytoaster, exciting you got a Hopper, I'm happy it's working out well for you so far!

I have 1 GHB1 battery and quite a few GHB2s. I find the GHB2s last significantly longer than my GHB1, generally getting 3-4 bowls from them, depending on the Will of the Gods. Often I find that after the low battery indicator (red flashing leds) turning it off and back on again I can get several more hits, sometimes a lot more, before it's actually dead.

So yes, I'd recommend some GHB2s sometime, when you can invest. Not an enormous difference, but it will help. If your batteries were shot (which it doesn't sound like they are), then they could also improve performance, but probably not in your case, as it's already performing very well. Buy the batteries when you get a PFE.

I haven't used a hydrotube, nor have I seen others here use them with a grasshopper, but I'm sure it would work well. I don't know what size the joint of a hydrotube is, but bear in mind that the PFE is only 14mm, so you may need to use an adapter.

@nonbeliever, that is all fantastic news. Long may it continue!

I personally didn't get on with a hydratube(HT) and hopper combo. The HT I found cumbersome to use and requires two hands to manage. I much prefer using my MFLB Orbiter. I can just place the hopper on the 14mm GonG and hold the whole setup on one hand. I do have a custom mouthpiece for my Orbiter so I don't use the whip.

The other thing is the HT goes on top of the hopper in use so there is always the danger of water dripping or leaking back into the hopper.

Another option is a good J-hook.

GHB2's are mostly just a higher quality assured production than the GHB1's. The capacity is the same for both but the GHB2's seem to later longer before needing replacement. The biggest difference you'll notice is going from old warn out batteries to a new fresh set. Depending on how frequently you are using your hopper it's best to replace the batteries every 6-12 months. That keeps the GH running optimally.

Another glass option that I really like is the FC-188, which you can get from dhgate. It's 14mm native, and small enough for me to hold comfortably.

On thinking about it more I agree with @GreenHopper, the fact that you need to hold the grasshopper upright, with the possibility of water splashing into it and then down into the heater, sounds like a hydratube isn't the best fit for a grasshopper.

Gree-Tings....

So I sent my RMA in at Christmas, and I just got my ship notice yesterday.

This came after a second email to prompt a reply from a warranty message I'd left a week prior.

Also, (and maybe this has been stated since I've been offline), Olivia is apparently now a dude named Drew.

That is all, carry on.

My Electric Blue unit just shipped, I guess yesterday, tracking shows USPS received it at like 2am this morning. Was ordered 3/2. The upside to it being a no defunct limited color, I think they just did one batch for the bodies and then made them all hence why these orders are shipping faster than other options, except maybe SS orders.

Scroll up a bit and find link to HL recent blog post. Pretty surprising way they're finally laying it all out. Also pretty encoraging, but the worm will continue to turn slowly for a while.
I'm sure glad some members are getting shipping notices!

Hmm so if hydrotube isn't the best pick, what other compact glass pieces do you guys like? I travel a lot so the less space in a suitcase the better!

Cheers guys!

Maybe someone will show you something more compact by way of an inline bubbler, but I happen to like my hydratube. I have an inexpensive knockoff of the Pinnacle Pro hydratube (14mm), nice heavy glass so I don't worry about it breaking, and frankly almost any water piece can be a danger to the vape if you blow into it the wrong way!

My on the go glass is just a ddave style, 14mm native piece I use dry. Fits inside my @Ratchett leather case with two batteries, a doob tube and a pick great (rolled into the middle).

It's glass so it prone to breaking, but (knock on wood) no issues so far.

At home I most often use a small cake piece from dhgate. It's 18mm, but I have an adapter that stays in it unless it's being cleaned. This has water in it.

I also tried a 3D printed water piece from the friend of the guy that makes the loader, but it's intended to work with the original MP and it never really did it for me. I love the idea though and would consider tying another one with some modifications.

Others have also reported liking just using a drip tip from standard vaporizers. Extends the path and keeps your mouth from the heat.
