@Zak McKracken even with the entirety of a small flame in the intake (to the point of the flame choking out) all i got was warm air.

The only way i've managed to get anything out of my brick so far is with a big flame, but at that point my torch takes ages to extinguish once i let go of the button.

A bit ashamed of myself really, i naively thought id take to it like a natural, but so far no dice. Will keep practicing of course.

If your torch keeps running when you have the flame turned up where you can use the brick and doesn't vaporize properly when you turn it down, I strongly recommend getting a different lighter. The difference between $3 and $10 is huge and I find I get better hits with my Scorch Torch than I did with my Eagle. For something that will last a long time an additional $7 on a lighter is negligible

Fair play @yourtokingbuddy i have a couple honests as come with the SBJ, an aomi i use with my vapcap, and i have another, much larger honest, that i havnt actually tried yet as its so large. Will have to invest in a better one!

Edit: ooof, searched scorch torch and they only seem to come from the US, which means the postage is more than the lighter!

I've been using the SBJR as my daily driver for a few months now, and I still feel like a rookie with this thing. It definitely helps to experiment with different torches, I have 3 different torches and 2 broken ones. Some of these torches didn't last a week.

I took another FCers advice and got a triple flame lighter. I can see why they call it an 'Extractor.' It's very intense and easy to combust if you use it on a fresh bowl. No "spray and pray" with this thing.
Just need to react quickly with the triple. If I blink, I'll combust. That's how fast it lights up.

But if I use a strong single flame for the first few hits and then switch to the triple for extraction, I get better results.

So yeah, it was the torch that was lacking. Used a bigger flame and instant results!

Still not taken it to its limit, but neither have i combusted yet. All in all a good time was had!

Thank you all you guys for your advice! You got me there in the end! Hats off to you all!

I got my purpleheart jr today and I love it ! First,I gotta say that the included hongfeng torch is better than the honest until now(although a little pain to fill ).Second,I had some problems adjusting from the OG.I found that I needed to get the lighter closer to the intake.Looks like it is harder to combust than the OG ,but I have to test it more.

Here with walnut OG for comparison.Looks like she could use some waxing btw.I use the cork permanently.

@Zak McKracken wow that's a beautiful SBjr!
She is a looker alright! And a great hitter!I haven't figured it out completely,I can extract a lot faster with the OG but I'll find it.I think it is mostly because I need to get the lighter really closer, which is combustion territory for my daily driver OG.It is a little more woody-tasting than the other ,but I'm sure this will be fixed after a few more bowls.

How fully do most people extract in their SBjr? I am tending to get a mostly dark tobacco coloured roast out, but i have not managed to extract as fully as i do with my vapcap for example (ground coffee ish dark).

The one time i have gotten close to that level of extraction i was conciously pushing my luck and the heat, and got s real nasty taste off it. Avb seemed scorched rather than burnt, pretty black but no white, but the taste was :shit:!

Still loving my SB Jr.

Also, I have of late taken up the mind set to discount AVB color...or at least not put as much significance on it as I did previously.

I find with full convection vapes, like the SB Jr, that I can indeed get dark brown AVB if I just push for that last draw, but I really do believe that all I'm doing is vaping off the last of the chlorophyll and oxidizing some plant material.

I have found that I'm happier when I look into the SB Jr bowl, say to myself..."gee, looks like there may be one more in there" and then put it down and don't push for that last draw. LOL Learning when to quit has been a big part of the SB Jr for me, at least.

Cheers

@Baron23 ,is there ever just one left in the SBJ ?:D

@Megaton I kinda like the taste of the last few.Matter of taste I suppose. If I keep low temps (LOTS of hits) and stir often,I get more even extraction .If I go very close I have to stir after every good hit(which I actually like to do,part of the ritual). My last bowl was this one.Colours don't tell the truth because of flash. It is actually"coffee ground with tobacco flakes".

It is not easy to get dynavap style avb,but it is possible. The sticky bricks are a LOT better to the throat than vapcaps though. Both are great, but I don't love my vapcap as much as my brick.Better quality vapor.Real on demand ,but also a session vape. Also, more potent for me.To just sum it up,the day I got my OG after one month smoke free,I knew I had found something I enjoyed almost as much as my joints... And I was very bummed to leave my brick home when fishing and just take the vapcap and the mighty with me(I know,I make it sound like a torment ) . So,the SBJ is here to rule.

Aye, like most of us im saving my AVB anyway, so i'm not too worried about wastage, just intrigued as to how far i should bother going. I find on a full bowl, a nice tobacco colour AVB has my nicely lifted, so its all good. Id rather not push it and have avb than combust and have a bad time all round!

I do love this vape more and more as i get more experience with it. Next step is to invest in a better torch i think.

@Baron23 , @Zak McKracken . I am very much in agreement with your , the steam that I enjoy most of all my vapes, including the time I take between steam and steam  ...

Before..I was hurrying my ABV but I also learned to enjoy of the good with my SBJ and if I have doubts of something else to take -> charge that ABV in my vapcap; then I verify that a draw or two as much of bad taste and almost non-existent steam is not worthy of my Sticky Brick Junior:rockon:

@Zak McKracken i said? how nice is your SBJ? If it were pink i died... for I would die, of envious! :bang:

I usually get a dark coffee bean colour as long as I’m trying to get all I can from a bowl. Other times I’ll stop at light brown. Depends on how I’m feeling. It’s easier with a full chamber too. It spreads the heat more evenly. I try to always use it on a full chamber to get even and full extraction. I used to micro dose with it, but found it was tougher to fully extract with a small amount. Now I just “micro sip” instead. I can stretch a full bowl 2 days that way.

How big is the chamber on the SBJ? I measured around .1, but wanted to know other people's findings. Also, what solutions have you all found for increasing efficiency and reducing the chamber size? So far I've tried putting the screen higher up in the chamber, but the screens are a pain and they wind up slanted. Wish they had a spacer that could raise the screen so the screen could rest on something making it more stable like when it's on the bottom.

You can put in a liquid pad of the mighty to significantly reduce the chamber. I use it for hash and it's amazing.
I usually fill half the chamber unaltered, and can take my time with consuming it.
But I do have to agree, alltough it is a truly awesome vape, it is not great for truly microdosing like the lotus for example.
