What strains are good for Sleep Apnia?

Larrytreez

I have had it over 2 years and feel so much better. I wouldn't mess with any settings. Was a little to get used to in beginning as with most new stuff. I'd say put it on half hour before you want to fall asleep. Pressure starts real low when you put it on. Give it 2 weeks, it took a buddy of mine a month.

Will try to use it. How do you guys arrange it near your bed. I was thinking of buying a headboard and placing the unit behind a headboard on some object like a night table.

Unit is real quiet. Remember the hose is ribbed so anytime it rubs on something hard, it's going to seem like there is a zydigo band in your room.clean hose once a week, as well as face shield and face cusion every day with a little hand soap.. I use bleach and water for hose, even though they say you shouldn't.

I find putting my unit higher than my head while i asleep is really annoying. I think its because the hose can move all over and touch my face.

So i put my machine at head level on my side table that way the hose always falls that way.

There's research btw suggesting THC can lower your AHI.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23346060

There is a larger follow-up study published in Jan 2018 Sleep Journal by the same researcher from University of Illinois Chicago. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29121334 He is using synthetic THC (Dronabinol) in these trials. This is not Cannabis. I compare this to an "Apple vs Pineapple". They sound similar but are not the same by any stretch of the imagination:lol:. The latest study showed similar improvements as he found in the proof of concept study analytika posted above. For the non medical geeks out there, in the latest study the 73 patients and the pill givers and sleep techs didn't know if the patient was getting a fake drug or the real drug...and...if they got the real drug, they didn't know how much the patient received. Then the results were compared to a sleep study without any of the study drug.

The issue remains that if you inhale/ingest/absorb real cannabis you get many more ingredients than THC. CBD would be the likely suspect along with some of the relaxing Terpines which could cause relaxation of the smooth muscles in the upper airway when you go into deeper sleep.

I got one of those early 'darth vader' sounding models back in the early 90's...
awful awful awful, masks and mustaches/beards don't work for shit either.
switched to breeze headgear and nasal pillows (properly sized!) a newer quieter CPAP,
eventually had the gnarliest surgery ever to be free of the damn thing.
It worked, but DAMN... ROUGH.

I've talked with friends and family over the years, and if your mask doesn't fit, change it...
try the various masks that are out there (many kinds), try nasal pillows and different headgear like the Breeze, they make a bite guard that operates as mouth oriented device pumping air in through
the bite guard (I don't know if it also does Mandibular Advancement).

Masks aside, I thought most places had switched to using autopap's, that automatically titrate the pressure unique for each patient (on demand). Pressure is a big one. For some folks it's awful high to keep their airway open, but once you get established and your metabolism starts to change, you can start losing weight which helps.

The other biggie for people is a humidifier (built into many of them now), and how easy it is to clean both the humidifier AND the CPAP, hoses and gear. Cleaning is huge, you can't be very lazy with it (unless you bought one of those 'autocleaning' units they are selling on TV here in so cal), a dirty cpap rig can and will make you ill.

Stay well!

Severe insomnia here.. Over the years have had 3 sleep centers tests. Outcome was mild sleep apnea. Find it hilarious since the last testing I had to go back twice since I couldn't sleep at all. Tried CPAC and was no help. I vape but it only helps with the anxiety I get from not being able to sleep.. But I have to remedicate since I only sleep an hour and half at a time usually less. Recently went out of town and had no meds. Didn't sleep for 3 days.. Was terrible. Lots of info here so need to go over it all.

Were these certified sleep centers? Or sleep 'labs' that the healthcare group sent you to? I went to the Stanford sleep clinic a number of times eons ago (they monitored and tested for any kind of sleep disorder), and in the last 5 years was sent to a sleep lab, where there was no real sleep tech, and all the telemetry (no infrared record of the test, apparently not looking for restless leg or periodic limb movement disorders.) All telemetry appeared to be shipped automatically to a polysomno doc offshore to read and determine if you had OSA.

You really want to be evaluated in a certified sleep clinic, who will evaluate you for ALL sleep disorders, not just OSA. They may crack the insomnia nut for you.

Before my cancer diagnosis, I was the BigPharma guinea pig for the Pain Management Group I used, copious amounts of Ambien CR were in the mix... I DO NOT recommend that stuff. While I can't take melatonin 'cause it's contraindicated with my cancer, most people can. Better yet, or in addition to.. chewable L-Theanine has proven helpful with my father's insomnia... others try Trypophan too. Just be careful with tryptophan if you're taking a prescription anti-depressant, you do not want to cause a serotonin storm!!

Some of the terpenes (I think Myrcene and Linalool if I recall correctly) are involved in sleep, along with the presence of CBN. CBD is helpful for dropping anxiety levels, and helping with depression, but I haven't had it actually help me sleep aside from those aspects. A profile typical of the more 'couch lock' style indica's, although some if not many of us have a paradoxical reaction (I responded really well to Trainwreck <sativa>, but haven't been able to find any GOOD Trainwreck in years, it's either been mislabeled or the varietal drift that has occurred fundamentally changed it's profile.)
My Emerald Triangle 'brother' Erik and his brother Dr. Jay were 2 characters who were behind Trainwreck and prominent figures in the early medical cannabis movement... they are greatly missed :(

I was trying to see if I could go without one med they prescribed from Stanford with all the various forms of cannabis I've been using... but in the last week discovered that it hasn't really worked on EVERYTHING. But I'll take what is has worked on, no problem!

Good luck!

Yes both centers were certified. The last time had me going back because I didn't sleep at all and second time was the same.
My strains are all Indicas with mostly high myrcene levels and also linalool. Over the last 2 years have tried over 20 indica strains. Nothing completely knocks me out. But they do help to quiet my mind so I can get a tiny bit of sleep until the effects wear off then I have to medicate again and again and again. When u add it all up I get 2 to 4 hours of sleep nightly.
Over the years I have found only one person that was as bad as me. She worked in a dispensary and used a CBD oil. I tried it and it did nothing. Tried edibles still nothing.
Have been saving my AVB from the Volcano to make edibles. Read that the AVB has a lot of CBN that helps better then CBD. CBN is not available in the edibles only from the AVB u vape.

I so hear you...
I get maybe 1 2-3 hour nap a day, if I'm lucky I get two.
Personally, I have not responded to oral CBD oil, except perhaps for the concentrate made by Care By Design, they have a 4:1 syringe of CO2 oil,
and that worked.
My next batch of medibles, I'm going to try using the edible CBD oil I bought from
CWBotanicals (Charlotte's Web folks in CO) along with the various other concentrates I've got. If you don't respond to edibles, you might look into using digestive enzymes along with them (many people are low in HCL and enzymes, especially if they've been using antacids). Edibles are the only thing that really works on me... vaping is for breakthrough pain and only last 20-30 min, where the edibles are good for 3-4 hours.
Not sure if the amount of CBN increases in ABV, I thought it was an oxidation process that occurred over time (exposure to light helped too).
I do recall one company making an edible that had CBN in it, sadly, brain-farting on the name.
Have you tried any of the other remedies I mentioned?

The only edible I tried was a chocolate candy bar that was recommended. Small dose and nothing but continued uping my dosage with still no results. Recently bought Terpofx Sleep Elixie same results.
With CBN I read it has helped insomnia users. Problem is it is only useful if used from Vaping. Haven't tried it yet. Appreciate your knowledge and feedback.

I got diagnosed with central sleep abnea about a year ago I was surprised I only weighed about 135 pounds and I'm 5,6 but central is when the brain isnt telling the tounge to move so i guess it can happen to anyone! I think they told me i was having like a small eppisode every minute or 2. Now ii get like 3 every night with the cpap! I absolutely hated the mashine in the beginning but after like 2 months I got used to it and I love it now! Wearing it for like 20 or 30min before bed while reading or something did seem to really help for whatever reason! And messing aroumd with the mashine with different temps helps 2! If i don't wear it now I feel like a zombie throughout the day lol!

I saw you posting about sleep apnea and stuff. I've never heard of a strain helping with sleep apnea, just insomnia and such things. I would strongly recommend you use your CPAP. If it feels -harder- to breathe, then it's easily possible that the pressure is pushed up too high and needs to be lowered. It's okay if it's like that, just means either you or your doc needs to adjust it a bit. Talk with him/her and let them know how much it sucks and they should take it from there.

I have sleep apnea too, and there are times when I wake up in the middle of the night and pull my shit off because I can't take it anymore, and I've had mine for a good while now. Not because it's hella uncomfortable or anything, probably something more like I'm half asleep and I'm like GET THIS FACE-HUGGER OFF OF ME NOOOO.

My CPAP is some kind of ResMed, not sure on exact nomenclature but it's a beast and I normally sleep like a beast with it! A whole :shit:load better than I do without it!

Ya apnea can be very different for different people! See, I'm 5'8" and my weight floats between like 210 and 230, but most of it is muscle. I have obstructive I think it is, so of course the doc is always on my ass to lose weight. Hard to do that sometimes...especially when I partake of :leaf: and then I see that bag of honey bbq chips the waifu just bought me sitting in there unopened...

Mine also has a little plastic tank on the side I can put distilled water into for humidity, which can also really help or really f me over. If I leave the humidifier on and it goes empty, it'll dry my shit out and it's hella uncomfortable to wake up like that. So make sure yours is filled up and set up just right and get a good pillow! Your pillow can screw you hard and fast if you have one of those normal fluffy pillows that your face just sinks right into. They're mad comfy, but they can move your mask or nasal pillow and break the seal, which can also make sleeping extremely difficult and it'll make your cpap way less effective. I have a contoured memory foam pillow thing that I use. I fold mine in half and either sleep on my back or side, though side is what the doc recommends because obstructive sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is not something that can be helped by any strain. It is mainly helped by a CPAP machine. Although if it's mild enough, there is a dental appliance that has to be done by a dentist. I preferred that to a CPAP machine- much more comfortable- but it only works for mild apnea.

@Dutchem, when I read "mild apnea", insomnia and anxiety it makes me think "UARS!" Patients who have UARS have different needs from those with OSA because of the anxiety. They will most likely be happier on BiPAP than ordinary CPAP. Read about UARS (I compiled a list here https://pastebin.com/2rWSxqps) and look for a doctor who is specialized in UARS. Barry Krakow MD is well known, look him up.

@Kosherbubba, you have a ResMed unit with something called "EPR." It might be turned off right now. You can set it to 1, 2 or 3, which are the degrees by which it makes exhaling easier.

Which is why he needs to get checked and have a sleep study- to determine if he needs a cpap, bipap, or whether a dental appliance would work. Not something anyone can determine, including a doctor, without data.

Yes, I am all for sleep tests, but @Dutchem said "Over the years have had 3 sleep centers tests. Outcome was mild sleep apnea." and that he couldn't deal with CPAP. My point is that UARS often masquerades as "mild sleep apnea" while UARS needs attention to some specific things, especially if CPAP doesn't work immediately. You need a doctor who is trained and sensitive to score "RERAs" in the sleep study, which is normally not done.

RERAs are completely ignored in my country (confirmed to me by some "dissident doctors" who wrote to me) and my apneas are too rare to be warrant a diagnosis of sleep apnea. UARS though, wrecked my life, giving me terrible fatigue and anxiety; all of which were rectified with the BiPAP I bought second-hand for myself. I made choking noises while I sleep just the same.

To see how it's done:

I understand. Thanks. But I wish mine was still mild- the dental appliance was so simple and didn't interfere with breathing or sleep. Where I live the sleep tests usually assess for cpap or bipap. I'm a mouth breather so have to have a mask that covers my nose and mouth. Very unpleasant.

Have you tried the F&P Simplus? It's a little bigger than the mask I started with (ResMed Quattro Air) but it works really well for me. I've been happily using the same cushion for a year now.

I know this is off the thread but thanks for the suggestion. My eyes are so dry without the cpap that it interferes with my sleep. Adding the face mask and having the warm air blowing in my eyes is pretty intolerable. Right now I have a resmed air fit f10.

And this discussion probably doesn't make using a cpap more appatizing

I have the same mask! It's been pretty good to me so far!

@little maggie I am also a mouthbreather when I get sick. Many are the mornings I've woken up with drool lining one side or the other of my mask because my mouth came open in my sleep and out comes the drool, lol.

When I was getting fitted for mine I asked the nurse if it came in gloss black or not. She looked at me like O.O wut? So then I'm like 'So I can RP darth vader in the bedroom, duh.' Her face was priceless.

Maybe I'm weird, but I kinda like my CPAP now. I've had it for a while though.
