The Mighty/Mighty+ by Storz & Bickel

VanCough

Environmentalist
My Mighty was the first vaporiser I purchased back in August of 2015.

It helped me start to kick the joints, although dynavap was the true nail in the coffin of my habit, and now I haven’t smoked anything in almost a year.

Unfortunately the old girl is getting tired now and she needs some new batteries. I contacted Storz and Bickel twice and their response both times was that because my unit was outside of the warranty period, my only option was to send my unit in and pay €248 for a new one. Gee, thanks...

Thankfully I’ve been alerted to @jcat’s ‘Custom Crafty Battery Packs for Easy Replacement’ thread and I’ve offered to be the guinea pig to see if his packs work in the mighty.

I can’t believe I couldn’t find any decent photos of the mighty disassembled. So I figured whilst taking mine apart to provide @JCat with the information he needs to be sure his packs will work, I’d document it for all you FCers ;)

My serial number is MY023021.

First remove the sticker on the back of your unit, I used a hairdryer to warm the glue so the sticker came off easily in one piece for reapplication at a later date.

Underneath the sticker are two screws, in @jcat’s guide for the crafty he states they are a Torx 7 size but curiously mine were a Torx 6 size. The screw holes are deeply recessed so if you need to purchase the appropriate screwdriver get one that has a narrow bit holder.

Once they’re removed there is a clip underneath where the orange pockey tool inserts into the unit, push down on this area whilst you pry the plastic shell apart at the corner and it should pop open fairly easily.

Next came the frustrating part for me, as you can see in the photo below I’ve unfortunately broken one of the small plastic clip slots at the top of the unit by trying to repeat the prying method I used to open the bottom. Fortunately my pain is a lesson for you all, just push the shell from the bottom up and it should slide the clips out and then the shell is off.

Here is a photo of the Mighty’s internals (I’ve already unclipped the battery and temperature leads to the motherboard):

Here is an internal view of where the air enters into the unit (it is seperated from the electronics when the shell is complete):

Here is the information on one of my batteries (both are the same), it’s not a particularly good cell but it isn’t terrible either with a total of 5400mah combined and a 10amp per battery discharge rate. However, there are cells available now with 3000mah+ and 15amp+ discharge rates; which is probably what the newer units have.

Here is a photo of the heating unit and motherboard/screen removed from the shell completely. It was secured by four more T6 screws (see photo 3):

And finally the inside of the front shell, I believe the white circle is a moisture detector? So if you need to send yours in for repair due to water damage then perhaps this could be replaced to ensure your warranty is honoured?

The following photos are for @JCat to ensure the connections are the same in the mighty as they are for the crafty to ensure his packs will work:

Sorry for my inaccurate measuring, the wires were unaccommodating. Stretched out, the wire with the white connector measures ~4cm whilst the wire with the black connector measures ~5cm:

Hopefully this can help someone else in future! :peace::leaf:

Yes. (from me :) )

They are internally Panasonic NCR18650 PF's if I remember correctly. I posted more details in my thread about it. I tried a bunch of different cells and settled on the Sony VTC6 cells as the best ones (this is for the Crafty, but the packs are identical in the Mighty, there are just 2 instead of 1)

Great job @VanCough ... too bad about cracking the case though :( The Crafty just pulls apart, 4 screws, and no "snapping" together of case, so you don't run into that issue. From your measurements the cable length is exactly the same as on the Crafty packs, and all the connectors are the same. To install the new ones you strip the shrink wrap off the old ones as you re-use the temperature probes (the smaller connector). These aren't connected to anything, you just lie them against the batteries when re-installing; they are responsible for measuring battery temperature and shutting down the circuit if your batteries get too hot; they have the exact same ones in the Crafty.

If you check the link in my signature I have a thread on the packs as well. Cost for them is $45 USD (or $80 for a pair? ... haven't sold any for the Mighty yet, so I've just sold singles to-date ... lol)

@VanCough

Do not let them get away with a 248 euro repair dude... that is 100 less than a whole new unit plus they KEEP the unit?!

If you used a creditcard are you protected? I have section 75 in the uk my card is jointly liable for buys over 150 so 348 is well in. Now they told me before buying batterys fade but just send it in for 60 euro. Well this is not true they just told me that they changed the policy sometime secretly and now demand 248 euro when 2 yrs is expired.

It took me having this email promise as proof and 3 emails before they started to take me serious and after demaning 248 euro multiple times and stating im out of warranty now they offer me a 60 euro fee battery replacement. I dont even want mine done right now i only emailed them to check the new battery did not makeservicing my older vape in future impossible but they backtracked there too.

First it was i need new battery AND new firmware which is not feasable and now they tell me it is? So really i am annoyed they as a large successful german company get away with this in the EU. And im going to find out the truth here and if they changed the policy while having lots of info on the web like google storz bickel battery warranty then im going to put a complaint in with whoever does the eu version of uk trading standards. In my eyes what they are doing demanding 248 euro is shameful and a disgrace. Because folks what has just happened here in secret is the Mighty just became a disposable vape unless you pay 248 Euro.

great pics !!
consider opening the heating-element to clean any gung/oil inside it.
it seems it is already dripping from the air opening (pic 4).

Good catch! That was the only pic with enough angle to see that.

If you do open the heating-element could you please take pic and share it? I am very curious!

I took it apart again last night and had a look, I don't think it's easily done and I don't want to risk breaking it so unfortunately I'm going to pussy out of that one!

I am alternately medicating with two Craftys, and will replace the battery in each at the same time. I'll be glad to get the $80 price for the pair. Thanks in advance @JCat

Was all set to get the mighty but looking at that pcb right near the air flow can't be healthy ....

Any thoughts on this

How does this thing pull, does it produce cool vapour as it looks so close to the heat chamber and im looking for cool vapour

also do you have to load a big bowl or can you vape with a small amount of dry herb?

Mighty produces surprisingly cool vapor via the thing on top called the 'cooling unit', which sends the vapor on a longer path through some baffles. That thing can also be called a reclaim factory because of the amount of goo that condenses inside - which in turn is evidence that it's been cooled!

I want to add that often a desire for cooler vape may actually be a desire for less-dry vape. Conditioning thru a water piece can really help to soothe the effect of 'dry' vapor produced through the heating process. Some folks actually prefer removing the cooling unit and going direct into water tool.

There are multiple methods of doing small amounts in Mighty; you can learn more about it in these pages, or if you do buy one you'll learn soon enough! But just dropping a small bit in the chamber is not optimal.

Here is some clarity on new packaging and models, I purchased the left model from a third party retailer it came with an 08-2017 production date, 20% more battery sticker I’m pretty sure this is the latest model in older packaging.

Regarding the old damaged model.
The rma “In regards to your defective housing, we can offer you either the replacement of the defective Housing free-of-charge, or, alternatively, a new MIGHTY for the price of 79,00 €.”

I paid the €79 and I received a new replacement mighty
direct from S&B, the mighty came in a new box design
with a 01-2018 production date, 20% more battery sticker.
see the box on the right side in the photos below.

So I hope this helps the regulars in here and anyone who is
on the market to purchase a new mighty
my advice is to buy direct from S&B to ensure you get the latest model.

You can load small bowls. Some say use capsules. Others say place your herb in the oven and place the concentrate pad on top to sandwich your bud in the oven.

Thanks!

Would the mighty be much of an upgrade on the solo?

Or would you opt for the volcano
Major upgrade. The vapor is cooler, thicker, and easier to draw than the Solo....which can cause you to collapse a lung , the draw is so restricted.

The Solo is a Hyundai compared to the Mighty’s Lamborghini. You’ll never look back. I haven’t touched my solo in over three years. Probably doesn’t even work anymore.

there is a video on youtube how to do this, it's fairly easy.
if yours is stuck, it's probably from the oil which has "glued" everything together.
heating it up a little would help.

btw: happy 4:20
