IF there was a chemical attack;
and IF it was Syrians killing Syrians with it;
should the U.S. do something or nothing?

While I'm not a libertarian, I am reticent to any foreign military engagement that is not under a declaration of war that we will prosecute until victory or defeat. Yet, the world scares me in that it seems closer and closer that a person in a tiny lab can make something that can kill lots of people. Chemical, nuclear and biological weapons are problematical not because they kill more dead than a bullet, but because they can kill so broadly and indiscriminately. Civilian populations are the target (aka counter value) rather than collateral to a military target (aka counter force).

I have no idea if there was a chemical attack. I do know if we want to prevent Assad from committing atrocities we would need to commit a huge Iraq style ground force to remove him from power.

That is never going to happen.

Given that, why are we blowing a few hundred million to level empty buildings?

These half measures don’t work. It didn’t work last year when we made the same empty gesture.

We either use the full force of our military, or we wash our hands of the mess. Given that all this happened because of our fucking stupid misadventures in Iraq, I’d go with the first option.

I guess I'm going to have to leave for a while as my first answer was different and might have turned this political.

Have fun guys!

In my opinion, Trump did this to deflect attention off of himself...
He has been in the spotlight for a while now with quite a few allegations against him and he needed a break.
The war in Syria has been going on for more than 10 years now, it is a civil war and the US does not interfere with civil wars, except this time...

The US is in Syria to help fight ISIS and not Assad, which is what they just did.
Makes absolutely no sense otherwise.

I tend to agree. There was a report that Trump brought up a Syria strike while meeting with his Defense Attorneys (but that could be fake news :) ). Let's not forget that Bill Clinton bombed that pharmaceutical plant right after the blowjob news hit. This seems to be a common Presidential move.

I'm also failing to see how this is "America First".

I kind of recall Obama making noises about basically engaging in an all-out war in Syria. The collective response from America was "the fuck we are!"

After Iraq, there is just no appetite for ground wars in the Middle East. I get that it's a horrific humanitarian crisis. And I wish the civilized world could do something to stop it. But America just doesn't have the stomach for it, with good reason.

Cuz it's pipelines first.

Russia said they would shoot back, but they blinked. Watch for an increase now in US bullying.

Oh. The President told me it was "America First" during the campaign.

I dunno if Russia ever had any intention of fighting back. Just as likely this was all a ruse to make the US look tough. We did give them a week notice. Plenty of time to move their hardware. The same thing happened with the bullshit missile strike we pulled last year.

@florduh

Syria has nothing of value to the US.
All other places they took over oil wells...

I agree. But it begs the question. Why did the US do this? Why risk igniting a world war for "show". It's insanity.

Has Trump approached any other situation differently? Every time there is scandal about him, he shifts the medias attention to something completely different.
I also think Comey's book has him worried. As well as what they found in his lawyers house and offices!

Check USA TODAY and Syria is not even a story, he just says job accomplished.
Then he is all over Comey...

It's almost like if you vote for a Reality TV Star, you should expect the country to be run like a Reality Show.

I remember Trump lambasting Clinton and Obama for telegraphing our moves to America's enemies. Then he Tweets out that America will be striking Syria "soon" like he's hyping his show for sweeps week.

I'd like to believe the Admin felt America needed to respond to the chemical attack. That they had the best of intentions. But I'm not delusional given the whole picture of what's going on with pornstars, criminal investigations etc.

Stop with the politics or this thread will be shut down by the mods. We’ve already been warned. I like talking politics but unforetunatly FC isnt the place. It’s happened several times already where a few folks screws it up for everyone else and fave threads get shut down.

Our mods continue to monitor the forum with little gratitude, which is too bad. Thank you mods for keeping the community on track and respectable.

Re Syria Bombing: Trump, Macron, May, ya can't really blame em, cos they're all just serving their masters - that's right, just simply doing their masters bidding!

Can't really say more than that, - NOT ALLOWED!:worms:

Not saying,

Random thought as I was surfing the national news channels.....

I don't totally believe in anything I'm hearing or seeing these days. Doesn't matter where the information comes from or what channel I'm watching and I tuned into all the majors without discrimination. Feels like every bit of information is tainted by some type of "potential ulterior motive". Sure do miss reporters like Walter Cronkite........

I don't want the above to be considered a political statement because I feel the same about ALL sides.

We live in a world controlled by the media that in turn is controlled by either left, right or neutral wing parties.
Unfortunately a lot of people are sheep and believe what they are told without actually taking the time to delve deeper and find the truth.

My favorite quote that I read a while ago seems to fit the world as we know it today:
"We listen, not to understand but to answer instead, without thinking and composing the correct response."

Almost the same as:
"I can read it over and over to you but I cannot make you understand."

It's a strange, strange world out there...

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Imagine all the different types of vapes there are, especially the portables.

Then imagine they all have little legs or wheels and can walk around.

Then imagine that there are these little sand people who drive around the desert in a giant shithole garbage truck with tank tracks,

and they hunt down and collect all the old junky vapes then sell them at auction.

I'm randomly thinking as to what thread my link belongs in to get the message out. :hmm: The FC Pet thread seems to be just pics. Anyway, this is important to me cause I've seen many vids with people vaping around their dogs or cats. I suspect it would probably kill a bird. Why would anyone subject an animal to weed, or even cigarette smoke for that matter.

I was at a party once where a large German Shepard type dog snuck into a kitchen and ate 24 medicated cup cakes. Other than sleeping a lot for two days he was fine. That dog also ate live mj plants, if given half a chance. Clearly a cannine canna abuser.

I notice that my cats are attracted to the smell when I put my unfilled vapcaps or stems on the bed.
My precious Bengal cat, Caleb, stole one of my Vapcaps. It was a Ti tipped Blackwood Square lovingly made by @phattpiggie . I have never found it, even after several thorough searches throughout the house and he has steadfastly refused to return it.

He hasn't stolen any of my stash material and seems uninterested in it. But he is in love with my Vapcaps. No more have gone missing but he does occasionally knock over my VapCap stem storage.

Back about 30 years ago.....Had a parakeet that had free run of the place and he would do anything for a pot seed including climb in your mouth to get it. I used the pot seeds to socialize him when we first got him. The first time he took a pot seed from the tip of my finger he latched on to that finger like a baby bottle looking for more and his training began. Eventually I progressed to holding a pot seed between my lips and he'd climb on my glasses upside down or hang on my shirt and gently pluck the seed from my lips. My brother took the kiss thing further by putting it on his tongue and the bird would literally climb halfway into his mouth to get it. Never blew smoke at him but he was always excited when I lit up because he knew that smell meant he might get some pot seeds.

Bird loved people with bald heads and it was one of the few times we had to lock him up because he loved to land on them when someone bald visited. Maybe he thought it was a super huge pot seed.
