Underdog Log Vapes

Depends on the stems, generally less is more as long as you've covered the screen. Screen distance you can tweak for preference. If it's a reasonably new dog tight packing at 12V may hit combustion temps. 10.5 - 11.5V is my usual range.

My underdog is from early 2017 and has a standard core. Would that mean I could hit combustion temps?

I will mostly use it through water so I might increase the voltage so I can do speed bowls.

Hey underdog, bought a vaporizer from you about a year ago, been an amazing piece for me, got a few questions though. Number one, my minidog has a big crack down the side, even though I keep underbutter on it, any tips for keeping my main dog in good shape/helping with my minidog

#2: I have several pipes, one of which is the Large glass one for direct draw, and I've noticed, even with the screen pushed up sometimes I cannot get any draw from it, even though it is browning the material. It's been happening for months and I avoid that pipe like bad Juju, do you have any idea what could cause that, because it racks my brain trying to figure it out.

Thanks for 10/10 community response as always

Hello all, new user here. Just bought an underdog on r/entexchange and I am super impressed. Already got a wifi outlet on the way so I can have it heated up when i get home.

Any pro-tips? I'm currently trying to figure out...

  • Variable heating - I will be making my own voltage controller this evening
  • Screen location - how close to the heater should I be?
  • Amount of herb - how aggressive can I get with herb packing?

Hey welcome to the Dog Pack noble!

> Awesome, let us know what you come up with. I love DIY projects and seeing the things people make.
> Close to the herb but ideally not quite touching, the default location on new stems is about right IMO.
> Less is definitely more but play with different levels and see what you prefer. I like to just fill the screen.

Just so!

Any of the cores can reach combustion temps it's just a matter of what voltage it takes to get there. You'll probably want to play around and see what your particular Dog likes the best but I'd start testing with a voltages between 10.5 and 11.5 for the stems and then you'll probably want to boost the voltage .5v to 1v for use thru water. When you're experimenting and adjust the voltage 'up' you should give it a minute or two for the stainless core to saturate and stabilize at the new heat level.

Sup Beastman, glad to hear you've been enjoying your Pup(s).

1> Did the Mini have a crack in it when you got it? I frequently used cracked stuff in Minis so I could save them from the burn-pile. There's nothing you can do to close a crack but it's basically unheard of for one to come all the way apart so it's probably fine as-is. If not let me know and we'll see what we can figure out. Underbutter helps with overall condition but not so much cracking issues.. those are usually from hidden stresses in the wood that finally let go or from wood that's not dry enough before it's heated. Minis were only make with full dried wood so it was probably either pre-cracked or the hidden stress scenario.

2> When you say 'no draw' do you mean you can't get any air thru it or just that you don't get any vapor out of it even though it's browning the herb? Normally if herb is browning and not making visible vapor we conclude that it's just 'one of those strains' that doesn't seem to make much (visible vapor). If it's not that and it's browning the herb then I'd say you're probably on the right track with the suspicions of voodoo.

You guys might get a laugh at this I ran my dog at 13.5v and the flower in my glass stem lit up like a Christmas tree. Gross! From now on I'll only increase the voltage for concentrates.

Haha been there done that! Definitely gross, especially after you've gotten used to vaporizing and then combust.

No biggy about the minidog cracking, its not too major to make it unusable

When I say no draw, I mean air goes through and the material browns, but no visible vapor, and no physical effects, and it isn't the strain because it's only when I use that pipe. I have no idea, I guess it really just is bad juju haha

Is it a glass stem? And your other stems are nylon and/or stainless? The glass stems let through a lot more air, so you could need a little more heat (even though the herb is browning) to get the same vapor density.

It was super gross, my hands and clothes smelled like smoke.

So far my favorite part of the Underdog is its ability to medicate quickly, heavily, and efficiently. During the weeknights I would generally vape 2-3 bowls with my Arizer air on max temp through a water pipe. Now instead of spending 30 minutes medicating I am done in a few minutes minute on the underdog (as long as my lungs can keep up, which often they cant). The way the stems just blow clean like is amazing and I'm surprised that more people don't use these log vapes.

Yeah the other ones are nylon and that one is glass, but it isn't even just about visibility, I can get to the point the herb is very browned and still will not feel anything, even though the bowl is 3x larger than my nylon one

I don’t have a log vape yet, but the only time I’ve had similar experiences with other vaporizers is when the screen is pretty clogged. If you haven’t already, make sure that the screen is clean and air is flowing freely through it when it’s empty.

If that’s not the problem, I’d look for cracks or holes in the stem that could be pulling in more air above the screen and giving you more diluted vapor.

If you don’t see a problem but you want to double check for leaks, you can plug the end with the screen and see if you can still pull air through it.

If that all seems fine, maybe you’re packing it so tight that not much air can get through?

It’s such a simple part it’s hard to see what else could be causing problems!

Screen isn't clogged, I just did a reclaim, and no cracks. I will try packing it less thoroughly next time though.

Just for testing purposes, bump up the heat when you hit the glass stem. There's more herb, and more air going through the glass stems, so they need more heat to get the same vapor as the smaller, stainless tipped stems. I'd be willing to bet that would do the trick for you-- most people find they need to vape the glass stems at a higher temperature than the stainless tipped ones. :) :2c:

Ha, I almost went for that one. Had it in my cart at around 9am est and then switched it to the Figured Shedua because I already have a couple larger ones.

Too many to pick from, but that's the beauty of it. I wanted to get a smaller one as well, but I think I'll wait and get a micro instead.
