MUSA Wooden Vape

DIY Log Dabbler 😁🪵💪💨💨💨
One thing about the MUSA Log gave me a little pause... and that was the still unanswered question of how the f**k do I make a 10 mm Vapcap ss tip work in a 18.8 mm glass heating core cover!? While I like the ability to use the ELB and to connect to almost everything glass on a stable basis, I miss a bit the ability to connect small glass or ss/titan roasting tips for efficient micro dosing. Filling the ELB with just a trifle poses (at least for me) the same problem, I have with other vapes that utilize fixed chamber sizes: You have to use some kind of extra screen/reducer to keep your herb a bit compressed and in place, as otherwise it just floats around within the chamber and simply won't produce the ideal amount of vapor (this is no problem, if the ELB is filled properly with at least 1/3rd of a full load, however).
The log's answer to that problem has been the use of flexible chamber sizes via sliding bucket screens in direct draw stems/WPAs and the use of small sized ss tips, like from a Vapcap (look at the Aromalogs from Ed's TNT/Dynavap), that hold a maximum amount of ~0.1g. from which they produce a ton of vapor, utilizing the conduction effect.
Ok... how to do that with the MUSA Log!? I used a ss universal WPA adapter from Flowermate at first and added a piece of 12/10mm ss tubing, that could hold a Vapcap tip. It worked, but looked ridiculous. Added a whole 5 cm to the hight of the whole log and the hot adapter would drop into your lap, when trying to use it with a bong. Not a very good solution. Then I looked around on me table and saw an ellbow screen from my Arizer EQ... which fitted nicely into the 18.8mm glass heating tube (the ellbow screens are only 8mm long and other than the much longer ELB screen, usually fit all 18.8mm joints with a bit if careful handling -note: never ever use force with these screens! Preform them in an old 18.8 adapter or something, if need be. They should fit snug, but not super tight! Else you risk breaking the glass!)
2lawitg.jpg

Sadly.. the ellbow screen (left) is still a bit too wide to accommodate a Vapcap tip. I fixed that, by putting the top cap of an ELB screen (right) within the Arizer elbhow screen, as the top cap fits both, the Vapcap and the ellbow screen perfectly. The seal seems tight enough and using it at a temp setting of about 5 o'clock gives you nice fat clouds out of your Vapcap tip with a nice, evenly browned AVB.
Lo and behold... your perfectly fine working (also optically and functionally 100% unobtrusive) Vapcap adapter for the MUSA Log, which I hereby declare "daily driver":rockon:

What I really like to see, is a fitting, wooden direct draw stem, that could come either with a 10mm glass roasting tip (should also work with the adapter) and/or an opening, that could hold a Vapcap ss/titan tip and a fitting wooden WPA.
This would add another (maybe more classic) experience to the already existing option, of using it more like the Cloud EVO with the ELB screen, WPA and big stem. I'd gladly pay for such additional accessories.

ETA: also made a WonG adapter for the use of the MUSA with a Vapcap

I have had the Musa for a while now and this vape is AMAZING!!!
I agree completely with this review and would even bump it up to 10/10 rating.
This vape is so versatile and beats ever
I also vape hash with it.
I put the hash in the lid of the easy bowl and draw slowly at first so the hash melt a bit and gets stuck and then pull normaly, and it works great!!
Usually I have to sandwich the hash with herb but the Musa takes it right on.
This vape ROCKS big time!!
I absolutely love it!!!!

Can you give some more details about vaping hash with the Musa? What amount of hash do you put in? Since the chamber is quite large I would think there a need to add some degummed hemp fibre.. I would appreciate any helpful details since I've been struggling with vaping hash but when it works it's just so good..

I imagine you can put in the top cap of the Bullet and maybe put another cap or screen on top if you are not going to use it inverted :). You can also try the muunch capsules loaded directly into the heater . (Those are Arizer cup screens )

try to get the hash as small as possible and just load it into the musa herb chamber. it works perfectly fine without sandwitching it with herbs. but it will stick to the herb chamber after the vape session. a burnoff is recommended.

My apologies - I owe you all a review after owning the MUSA for around 2 weeks now!

The MUSA and myself had a rough start. I received it on a very stressful day (with many stressful days to follow) and my first usage was no fun at all. Just to say it already beforehand: That was my fault, not the MUSA's. I assembled the mouth piece wrongly (however I was able to achieve this) and the resulting experience, paired with my expectations, was not satisfying. I thought "Fuck, another EUR 250+ badly spent!", put it back in its package and planned not to use it again in the foreseeable future.

Some days after, @MUSA Vaporizer was so kind to contact me to hear about my experience and I told him everything that I thought would suck about his vaporizer. He took a lot of time to explain my stupid mistakes (my judgement, not his) to me and to set my expectations straight.

Concerning my expectations: I was expecting an e-Nano experience, but - if we want to categorize at all - then the MUSA is closer to a Cloud EVO experience. Just better than the EVO, at least in my eyes.

Yesterday, I took it out again to give it a final test. And this time, I really liked it. It heats up very fast (<2 minutes, if at all), but you could also leave it on all the time and start vaping when you feel the need. It's very easy to load and clean because of the SS basket screens. If you still have several stoner friends, then each could have his own basket and one could rotate the device within the group easily. The heater has no problem at all keeping up with large back to back pulls.

The ABV comes out evenly browned without any stirring and getting vapor out of the device is quite effortless. You can use smaller amounts or bigger ones. If you know the Vapexhale basket screens, then you also know about the possible quantities. The device itself is well manufactured and will probably survive a long time.

I also tested it with a water tool (even though I am not too much of a water tool type of guy) and I think that it shines here. I am sure that everybody with a water tool will enjoy using it that way.

I just had another bowl with it and am very well hit and medicated. The MUSA does its job.

Would I buy it again? I don't know. Not because the MUSA is a bad vaporizer (which it absolutely isn't), but because I am one of the few guys here on the forum who taste certain stainless steel screens in the air path. I can even tell the difference between a SS Vapcap tip compared to a TI tip, just by taste. I had the same "gripe" with the Vapexhale Cloud Evo. But if I had to choose between the Cloud EVO or the MUSA, then the MUSA would be the winner. I (personally) just get better taste from 100% glass airpaths/stems with no or just very small SS screens. Anyone without that "problem" will probably have a very good experience.

I hope that my humble opinion is at least a bit useful. Do not hesitate to ask questions if there are any! :)

@blokenoname: I have, of course, tested your MOD too and it indeed works... :) However, I like it better to use the MUSA as intended and an IH together with my Vapcap... ;)

@Dynavaper I have absolutely the same problem with cloud bullets.. Even after torching them numerous times they still have that metalic taste. I havent had that problem with the arizer cup screens ever, idk if it just because they are less by mass or just better material.
I suggest putting a screen in the adapter and loading directly into it. The heater in my DIYs is 50w bulb wrapped with some ecig 316L 200 mesh which proved to be powerful enough to vaporize from distance ,and also doesnt taste metallic if you do a burnoff before installation. Try this before giving up on the MUSA,i am quite sure the cloud bullet is the culprit. Also try washing the glass cover, maybe it has some residue from the mesh burnoff that you are still feeling.
Another thing you might want look into is if there are any numbers letterson the bulb usually written in black or golden, you can remove them with Alcohol. I guess they can offgas also, since it is some paint.

And while the MUSA works perfectly well as intended and advertised with the glass WPA, Stem and ELB screen, I looked for ways to add a full blown log experience to the MUSA Wooden Vape, looking for a way to connect it's massive 18.8 glass joint to the more tiny stems and adapters of the log world. :D

Based on my little quick & dirty Vapcap hack with the ELB top-screen and Arizer screen, that together would fit into the 18.8 glass heater cover and take 10mm Vapcap tips, I came up with this little adapter, which is more versatile, seals tight now with the 18.8 glass joint (the two screens would always draw at least some air), and basically could even turn your Cloud Evo into a log

2cftdo2.jpg

510 ss drip tip (~11,x mm OD), 3 high temp o-rings, set into an Arizer Elbow screen with the bottom cut off for snug fit in the 18.8 glass heating cover. Vapcap ss debris screen for the looks -and because it was the best fit.

ndr29.jpg

Big 11,x mm end of the drip tip now fits like a glove into Arizer Solo and Air stems/WPAs, which work like a dream.

2aj5i6w.jpg

1z2ggo0.jpg

Small 510 end now fits with it's 9,21 mm OD right into your stainless steel Vapcap tip, also like a second skin.

25aovw0.jpg

2w20cp3.jpg

The titanium tips seem a bit more narrow due to the grooves at the tip and so the 510 end doesn't slip right in like with the ss tip. I have to give mine a slight twist, as if screwing it on. It seals, but it comes loose easily. So better keep your hands on, when using a titan tip. I prefer the stainless ones anyway.

I usually keep the rest of the Arizer screen in the glass joint and insert the drip tip as need be. Wanne use glass Arizer Air/Solo stems and WPAs? Stick the small 510 end into the Arizer screen, the 11mm end pointing up. Wanne use Vapcaps and other 10mm tips? Stick the big 11mm end into the screen, the 510 end pointing up. And obviously don't do that, while the MUSA is hot ;)

ETA: As the 510 drip tips vary a bit in size, best take an Arizer stem and a Vapcap tip and test before you buy some.

reading this thread, i get the impression that @MUSA Vaporizer could take all the input of FC and rework the connection / Stem / bowl / whatever part of this vape and then have an absolutly killer product here. Just imagine optimized connections for all glas OR Vapcap OR watertool....

Have a great day!

I dont think that there is much to be done, either than providing some screens for the purpose .
2 arizer screens = Dynavap adapter.
5 x pipescreens for the Direct bowl loading
And maybe also do tutorial about other loading methods so potential buyers dont get the idea that this is the only way it works.
From what it looks it works pretty well paired with Water tool so i dont see what could be further be done to make it better.
@Dynavaper Waiting for Dynavaper to confirm that loading directly into the adapter is no problem for MUSA. As mentioned you dont need full power to make it work,so even if it is needed to bump the temp up a bit,it should be still hot enough to do the job.

Yep. The MUSA is a monster, as it is . And additional connectivity for Arizer Air stems and Vapcap tips is just a few bucks for a fitting drip tip, O-rings and an Arizer screen (guess, a lot of people will already have the fitting parts at home).

@Abysmal Vapor
You can use the provided glass WPA adapter with any normal pipe screen. Mine sits relatively high in the adapter, nearly directly under it's female joint. But with the amount of heat, the MUSA is capable to produce, it wouldn't probably matter, if you install a screen 10 cm away from the heater

"And maybe also do tutorial about other loading methods so potential buyers dont get the idea that this is the only way it works."
Second that :)

Thanks for your words. But i think you got a wrong impression there because the way i sell the Musa works perfectly fine.

Some customers prefere using very small doses, which works as well with the Musa, but the VapeXhale herb chamber is rather made for highdoses. I may go away from the VapeXhale herb chamber and switch to the arizer screens. (The arizer screens offer space for a good dose as well, so i would go the middle way)
This may be a good mouthpiece solution for the arizer screens: (it functions as a mouthpiece and waterpipe adapter in combination) I just have to workover the design, what do you think about it?

I havnt found a way yet (i did a lot of brainstorming) to do a universal solution for dynavap bowl, arizer-stems,.. but i think this isnt really necessary. For sure it would be a nice feature, but the construction possibilities are limited.
(But as you can see in the thread, you can easily get the parts to do your own mods for your prefered combination, and probably way cheaper if i would sell them on demand)

That looks very promising in my opinion! Just to clarify, i guess the Musa works fine like it is but right now it attracts people who like to tinker around themselves and who like to play with different Vapes and parts... if you "streamline" the connections a bit more and communicate this / write a nice manual it could widen your potential customer base a lot... just my 2cents

Thank you :)

I think the reason why people like to "tinker" arround with the Musa is, that people guessing that the Musa is a logvape (because it looks like one). But its a sessionvape like the Evo for example. So they maybe expect something different.
Anyways its nice to see, that its easy to customize the Musa into a logvape for very small money. This possibility may doesnt work with many other vapes.

My new mouthpiece solution will work with arizer screens AND vapeXhale screens. So in the future it will be a sessionvape AND a logvape to satisfy everyone outthere. (The virtual picutre of the mouthpiece is outdated)

Guys who want a sessionvape for big loads will be 100% satisfied with the actuall musa. (high tolerance people for example :D)

Thanks to everyone so far for your output in my thread, im always open for your ideas!

Have a great day everyone!

Well… last time I looked, the MUSA was still fitting at least my definition of a log vape: "heating rod in a wood stump", but I get where @MUSA Vaporizer is coming from :D

The MUSA vape basically IS a log vape, simply by virtue of being made out of one, even when it’s intended to be used more in the style of the VapeExhale Evo ;)
What sets it apart a bit from other logs though, like the Nano or Underdog, is just the size of the heater and the utilised stem system (think small, simple glass stems and WPAs vs. big glass tubes & hydratubes). I think the Underdog was tinkering with a massive heater (Alpha Dog) some time ago, at least double the size of its standard ~10-11mm (?) heater cover and utilising big glass stems with 18mm male joints.

You can also use any other log vape as a session type vape. That’s just a question of how high/deep you set the screen in your glass stem/WPA, the amount of material you fill it with and how often you want to stir (though… having a stem systems that also can accommodate ELB screens, does indeed make this process certainly easier). Where logs really shine, though, that is in instantly & constantly providing a massive amount of heat, that’ll enable you to extract faster and more thoroughly from even a few crumbs, than nearly any other vape on the market and the MUSA with it’s powerful halogen heater is completely up to the task at hand here. I can’t even copy that with my homemade log with the 36W Herborizer XL heater inside. It simply can't provide more heat, than it’s max setting, that is somewhere around 200-220°C and that me friends.. is nothing compared to what the MUSA's 50W halogen bulb in combination with its fine mesh ss covering can produce. And sometimes, it’s just those few degrees more that make all the difference between a ‘meh’ session and a really satisfying vape session.

Take an Arizer stem and fill it up loosely to the top. Stick it into your Solo or Air… and come up with the usual “Meh! Maybe another one!” after a 5+ minute session. Now do the same, but set it on the MUSA with a little adapter. After 4-5 massive, flooring tokes at about 4-5 o’clock, and before stirring the load, the question that usually forms in my mind now is more along the lines of “Will these few crumbs ever stop vaping!?”… while any thought of a second session slowly and simply just dissipates into thin air :o
In other words... with a log I’ve difficulty to finish even the 0,1 - 0,2g, the glass screen of an Arizer stem will hold and me tolerance is not exactly low :D
I wouldn’t even know what to do with an ELB, that’s 1/2 to fully filled :D Who will vape all this material in just one session!? :D

The personal reasons why I’m tinkering with the MUSA are not because it doesn’t work out of the box. It does that with excellence, indeed! :)
It’s rather on the one hand the fun, that such a versatile vape offers me in modding with the simplest of means (hell, I can even put the Arizer EQ' glass onto its heater, using the massive cyclone or DDave Mod bowl and then lean back and use it with a whip - and contrary to the EQ, I don't have to constantly worry about how far away from the heater I place my material, as I can simply crank up the MUSA, whenever need be), and also because I wanted an US style log, like the HI, Underdog, Nano or Woodscent, which aren’t available in our European shops. So I got the MUSA instead and frankly, a simple mod anyone can do at home (if he/she so desires) to reduce the size of it's heater cover’s connector is all that is needed to make the MUSA perform with smaller sized stems/WPAs and loads like any of the above ;)

Looking back though, on what I’ve just written, I’ve to say, that @Doktor Dub has a point, strictly from a marketing POV: "if you "streamline" the connections a bit more and communicate this / write a nice manual it could widen your potential customer base a lot…”
There simply aren't any log vapes availiable in European shops right now. And I doubt that this will change anytime soon (EpicVape just declared yesterday, that they stopped shipping to Germany and Russia for the time being), as nearly all the US log manufacturers seem more or less either one man shows or rather small businesses, that might not risk expanding to European markets, just to sell only a few units more. On the other hand there is definitively also a rising demand of log vapes in Europe right now, that wants to be satisfied. So fulfilling and utilising this demand as kind of a drawing card for the MUSA, and presenting it as a log vape, which besides your accustomed log vape features also offers a full blown Cloud Evo like experience with ELB screens for massive amounts and long multiple person sessions due to its rather unique stem system, would sound to me like a more reasonable and promising way to advertise the MUSA and widen the customer base, than the other way around, i.e. advertising it as a log, that is not a log ;)

So.. all said and done, I’m also really looking forward to the new wooden stem/WPA combi solution with Arizer screens and ELB, to accommodate smaller and bigger loads respectively. The so far provided glass combi works fine with the ELB when its filled with the accustomed minimum, but I also had me usual ‘too small a load into too big a chamber’ problem, when putting less than that minimum into the chamber, other vapes with fixed chamber sizes presented me with, as I already pointed out in an earlier post, and it also looked a bit too massive on the small body of the vape itself for my taste, but that is foremost due to it’s composite nature, as when you want to use the direct draw stem, it has necessarily to sit on the WPA that contains the chamber and provides the connection to the log’s heater. Having all in one, maybe more compact piece that can be used as direct draw stem and WPA and also better accommodates different load sizes, sound like a welcome improvement to me :)
