The HI

Shit Snacks

My HI is the most attractive vape I own. I'm bad at pictures but may look back to find one that's similar. It is small and has kind of an hourglass shape. Absolutely lovely. This is a HI thread so I'm not going to mention that any time I need an accessory mp, wood or glass, or a whip for any vape I contact Alan. Amazing artistry.
(Was just looking back to find my shape and saw the pineapple and crushed pineapple shapes. Now I want one of those. So unique!) Does everyone who is ordering a HI know that Alan said somewhere back in the thread that he can make almost any shape you want?

Too bad I can't get a pineapple iHeat.

Ha an hour glass is cool! No photos around?

My HIbrid is a curvy vase shape and I was just discussing a slight hyperbola shape for my new HI standard core... With all the wood and shape options it sure makes sense to have a few lol

I used yours as a model. I am just visually/spatially impaired so I guess mine is not really hourglass shaped. T
The square ones look interesting too. Why does everyone get one shaped like a log?

Ah yes that is my HI in fact! Do you have any pictures of yours though? We've probably had this exact conversation before lol

It is a little hour glassy for sure, I was going to agree and say mine was too then thought about it and wasn't sure since I guess a true hour glass would have curved top and bottom with thin middle... Another shape for another time! I don't know why so many opt for the standard log shape, it is certainly very nice too, but I can never resist something more unique

Alan is the only log maker who will make a shape based on what the purchaser wants. I admire some of the engineering of some of the other logs but no one is better at design than Alan. I'm sure he would make an hourglass if someone wanted one. I'm still yearning for a pineapple but even with my VAS I don't need so many logs. My next purchase is going to be the iHeat.

My new Bamboo HI came in and I couldn't be happier, I feel like it's dummy proof. I've tried to burn my herb to see what would happen; at 12.3V I had faster extraction and a thin layer was slightly darker than the rest but it stopped vaporizing. The ABV is a bit lighter than what I'm used to since my Vapman and my Davinci IQ are conduction and roast my herbs differently. I even took my ABV from my HI and put it in my other vapes and extracted little if anything at all.

I feel like this unit is the most efficient low risk unit I've ever used and it isn't as expensive as most other units on the market! I've tested out different load sizes and I found that what I load in my vapman to be the perfect amount .05 - .1 it's easy enough to reload with the straw method. Also shout out to @Alan for this samurai looking poke tool, a needle in a bamboo skewer sheathed in a wooden dowel. In combination with my bamboo HI I felt like a real samurai lol

As for the aroma therapy cap I've been using my lavender from my last year's harvest and it's settle and I realized that I can also use the aroma therapy cup from my Arizer Air though there isn't a nice way to pick it up so I use the one Alan had made for me!

All in All, this is my daily driver; best taste out of all my other vapes and my preferred method of use is to use it dry with my glass J hook.

Anyways as always 420 in the 204

I just need to point out that this isn’t quite accurate, you can order an Underdog in a wide variety of shapes, they have around 30 listed on their site.

https://underdogvapes.com/custom-vapes
I like my underdog but those shapes are more variants of the log which I think most of the log makers make. My woodscent is not a straight up and down log either but I doubt any other log maker would make a pineapple or a square or any of the special shapes Alan makes.

@204Markie , you just got yours too, any tips from new to new user ?

I'd suggest a fine to medium grind, no big chunks.
-make sure HI has warmed up 15-20minutes.
-load roasting tube, insert tube over the heater about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep.
-you want your herb almost touching the heater or even herb against the heater. So back up the screen in the stem as needed to be able to insert tube over heater.
-Use a Slow draw.

During daytime , exhaling towards a window , aiming exhale under or to side of window , should help you see vapor path .

The glass heater at 12V should give a nice golden/medium brown abv, it won't be dark brown but that doesn't mean it didn't work. It does extract most if not all the goodies.

Other members might have better tips for you . Congratulations on your new Bamboo HI

@204Markie - Thanks so much for getting me to think about an aromatherapy option for the glass heater cover HI’s. I like to use it better than the copper aromatherapy cups on the SS heater covers too.

Glad to hear your bamboo HI arrived safely and you have been enjoying it. Almost impossible to combust using the glass heater cover. It does a good job of extracting, but it takes a few more hits than the SS heater cover does. I also use the straw method for filling. It sort of self determines how much can be drawn into the screen before the air flow is too restricted. The stir tool w/ sewing needle does a great job of keeping the screen clean which is important for even roasting.

@Walter Bishop - Good to hear from you. Glad to hear your HI is still treating you well.

@P.A.M. - Thanks for posting the photo. Your bamboo HI looks great next to your LB. Your desktop and portable needs look to be well filled. Glad you are enjoying the wooden roasting tube I made for the LB’s. Thanks for the roasting tips.

@little maggie - Thanks for posting the photos of the different shape HI’s I can make. I do plan to make an iHeat heater cartridge shaped like a pineapple. Should turn out very well.

@SpudBob - Glad to hear your HI arrived safely. Hope you have good luck roasting. The glass heater cover HI delivers such tasty vapor. Hope the roasting tube works well for your milaana too.

@Shit Snacks - Looking forward to turning something for you.

@P.A.M. I feel like the vape is fairly dummy proof, I have the glass heater with a thick glass roasting tube and my bamboo/glass water adaptor. I start with the heater slightly touching the herbs as I twist the unit to the left and right and as the vapor gets hot I start to pull the unit higher from the stem. I like to "shotgun" as to make sure I didn't wasn't any vapor. For taste I have my unit at 11.8v and that's the default; through water I change it to 13v.

After my session I turn it back to 11.8 as it's not safe to keep it on higher than 12 for long periods. I'm still trying to get used to the lighter ABV this gives over my Davinci IQ and my Vapman.

I might try making a lung for my HI using a oven bag and a large Gatorade bottle.

Has anyone tried attaching a SSV or any other kind of whip for a hands free experience + longer vapor path?

I had the good fortune of picking up a bamboo HI, my very first intro to logs:wave:. So far I have had 1 day with it and it's very enjoyable. The glass sliding tube is great because I can adjust the screen height so the material doesn't get charred but the nylon stems is impossible. No matter how I do it the material gets scorched even if it's a quick inhale. I don't have a voltage dial, can someone give me a cheap recommendation please? It blows my mind I can leave this plugged in continuously, being a newbie and all I unplugged it after 3 hours, lol. So far so good any tips for using the nylon stem would be appreciated. I try not to make any contact with the walls but that hot air instantly scorches the load.

Ive just recently got a Bamboo HI and ,also, am still learning. I find if you tilt the stem a bit, like at a 60 degree angle, and allow a bit of outside air in the tendency to char is less. I, too, have the regular PA and think an adjustable one might be in the works. It does, really, extract a lot of vapor from a minuscule amount of material though.

Thanks pal, that really made a huge difference. Anyway I picked up a glass core too and now i’m Trying to figure this one out. I realized I like the ss more but unfortunately I’m planning on giving that one away. On a different note here’s an oxymoron, the fact that the log is always on makes me use it less often. I feel like it’s always ready so i’ll Get to it eventually;)

I recently got mine and I absolutely love it! Absolutely wonderful craftsmanship and overall just a joy to use. Though I realize now after a couple weeks that I should have gotten a GonG or WonG adapter so I can really utilize it everywhere. Anyone have suggestions for 14mm?
Alan makes them! toasty-top.com.!!! They are really awesome and work/look fantastic in my Milaana too. So much that I don't use the RBT stems anymore. The one I got from @Alan came with a reduced diameter glass insert/tube! This allows me to load 8mm micro dosing-AMAZING!!!Im getting 5-6 good pulls from what is about .05gms. Thats 100+ hits from a gram!!! It also has 10mm and 12mm ends that allow you to, really, tailor your load. Im using, exclusively, the 8mm one though as it is enough!!!

Ah for sure, I should have had the foresight to order them from Alan when I was buying my HI. I thought I would only be doing direct draw but clearly I was wrong

If you do get one see if Alan has the glass lined ones! I didn't see one in 14mm that appeared glass lined but Im sure he could make one if not. The glass slips in/out so it is convertible too! Also I like to use the wong for all my draws because it is easier to handle. The combo of the wood & glass is really amazing. Alan says the combo scavenges less heat from the heater so helps with heat up too. Remember to tip the roasting tube a bit to let a bit of air in with your draws. It reduces the chance of combustion which IS possible if you go right over the heater cover. Al least that is my experience. If I had the adjustable PA maybe it would be possible with a lower setting say 11.5volts. I don't, though, so hence the tip technique!
