I received a comment on my last LB video, a forum member from Vapelife.com wanted to see the inside of the stem and heater , info on screens . I took photo and posted them with explanation in the "Lil' Bud by Vapwood" thread on
Vapelife . Thought I'd post the photos here too . Please find them in album link below .

`@P.A.M., it looks like the thread is getting some interest over on vapelife. That's very cool to help us break out into the world a little.

I'm not sure how this is gonna go. It really is based on the answer to these two questions.
How many people will want Lil' Buds?
And how many Lil' Buds can I build?

I know I've been raving about time saving processes, but when you find a way to substantially reduce the amount of time it takes to do something AND you simultaneously improve the consistency and accuracy of the end result, it's big news. But this switchbox cutout thing was huge. I have one or two other ideas that might shave another 10 or 15 percent, that's almost 50% in total. My goal was to do it in half the time, twice as good. Working towards that.

Oh sweet Jesus this vape can give super tasty thick rips. If it isn't just like Mike said - paraphrasing here- it's a function of grind, material dryness, tamp, and draw speed/force. Loved enjoying learning the learning curve... I'm not the sharpest, but it took me half a day to dial in the perfect load- draw speed. Oh and Im Using rimmed basket screens from 420 e d c.. feel like they seal the cherry stem better... imo... Mike, you knocked this one out of the park brother. Cheers to all, off to hit the lil bud..... D.

Thanks @DirtyD, I'm really glad you like it and found a set up that works for you. Dialing in the perfect load-draw speed is essential. It's amazing how there isn't just one perfect way. It's about finding that balance. Recently, I've been pursuing smooth taste. I found that smaller, evenly packed/tamped loads, with just the right draw speed are working soooo nice. I got to the point where I'm not even stirring. Not that I couldn't stir once and get another hit, but I usually just dump and load fresh, as the weed efficiency is off the chart (thank God for us heavier users).

One thing about vape building vs vape using, saves lots of product, as I never vape while working. And that's not because I can't work high, but I'm just too busy, and pretty much getting high on the building process (happy hormones are more powerful than herb). Also makes quitting time more enjoyable.

note: If you'll notice, Timber has been dropped from the thread title. You will see it soon in up and coming, but I thought it was time to have LB stand on his own. Look for Timber over the summer months.

So many vapes out there, esp portables , you have to warm up, and once they are warmed up the first hit is " flavor" which is a euphemism for " gee I hope the next one is a real hit" With this beast, (and some small learning curve) I can get monster fat tasty no burn juicy hit first time I hit it... 5 second button push or less then proper pull speed, let off the juice, still pull slow to clear.... here comes the moon, try not to crash land. Peace, every one needs one of these
Oh and cheers to all, D

Batch 4 update...
It was a working Sunday (as always). Switchboxes and back plates, as well as pre-assembly of 18 units complete. Now it's time to pull out the old Stanley smoothing plane, then finally sanding down to 600 grit, before applying the first coat of hot beeswax.

I am not going to build 18 coils at once, but rather break it down to 10 and 8 (part of batch 5). Half the units are cherry, half walnut. Some of the processes are becoming quite routine (very good). I have a feeling that coil building (next phase) will never get that routine.

Holy Fucking Shit!

This batch is moving along, everything falling into place, almost as if it took 4 batches to really nail down every process. I finished planing, sanding all 18 pre-assembled units. Planing saves so much time and work vs sanding. A little more 400 and 600 grit sandpaper, and it's beeswax time. Next it's finish off the back plates, and on to the most important job of all - coil forming, what makes LB and the instaHeat by @Alan so incredibly effective.

After doing some Spring cleaning this morning I managed to whip out the Vapo'lung for a test drive in the afternoon. I call it a vape'chute as it looks similar to a parachute once bag is pulled out . It Basically consists of a 2L cola bottle and a plastic bag. Very redneck by nature and Very simple to make at home. I will explain in a video how to make one and show it's potential while at it .

It's really cool to see the vapor flow from the stem and build up inside the bottle. Makes for some monster hits! Worked with LB on my first try , looking forward to share with you all.

It gives a good sense of how much vapor a vape can produce in your lungs. Coughing fit warning ! it's a lot of vape to inhale within the 1 to 2 seconds it takes to empty the contents. Still quite smooth though. Stay tuned !

Can't wait for the video! Nice to see creativity. Personally, if I couldn't create, I'd be in trouble.

No shop time today. I need the break anyway. I got the batch down to 400 grit, very nice. Beeswax soon.

I think I'm going to go at it differently this time, as much of the coil prep can be mind numbing -preparing wire, splice connectors, wood disks takes lots of time. I think I'll work in batches of 3 or 4, changing tasks every 20 to 30 minutes or so. This also allows a sense of completion / satisfaction of seeing a finished product (the coil) - testing it as I go.

Batch 4 really coming together nicely. I have to take pics!

I am absolutely loving this lil bud. Got my screen where I want it in the cherry wood mouthpiece. 1/4 " or a bit less from rim of mp. Was using a rimmed basket screen at first ( before I really learned how to hit it) , now back to stock screen pushed into tube " backwards" or is it the right way? So the walls of my herb chamber is cherry wood, just the " floor" is ss screen. Amazing pure taste and I'm in total control of the size of the blast I get. This vape is friggin bad ass. Never had pure convection on demand before, was beginning to think it was a myth. The lil bud is the tits. Love the stir tool. Can't wait to see more people get theirs.. Cheers! Mike you da man!!!

Quick question folks. When I’m hitting it like to take multiple sips while holding the button. Sometimes like 10 seconds at a time. My question is it it safe to have the heat and button on for this long? How long is too long to hold the button. I know load doesn’t start heating until it’s hit correct ? Just got want to make sure I’m not running my lil bud into the ground. Tia

Here is the thread for it.

Here is a short video I made of one a few years back.

Cool! I didn't know there was a thread for the vapor lung . Awesome , thanks @chimpybits !

Here's a freshly made Vapor Lung with the LB

Edit : @kaisersosay415 , from the website :

Button Switch & Draw Speed
The unit is *turned on* by the depression of the switch. Press to generate heat, but be sure to adjust draw speed to *pull* the heat into the stem. Coordinating button depression and draw speed is the key to good performance, but be sure to never press button without inhaling. Limit continuous button depression to 10 to 15 seconds. Feathering, or intermittent depression of the button may help you control the amount of heat that enters the herb chamber.

....
Looks like you are good to go  when I want a faster hit or on a low battery I give the heater an extra second prior to drawing .

Draw speed and button depression are the key to good performance, so great question. Either one will add or subtract heat in the herb chamber. If you just depress the button and don't pull, all the heat stays in the coil compartment. If you press too long, or draw too long or hard, you have the potential to combust. Pulling back on either one will easily prevent that. But how long can you press the button and not damage LB?

I'm testing my unit now. Full battery.
10 second depression before I put to my lips - body warm, not hot
5 second draw never releasing button - nice even hit, body still warm, not hot
5 second hold after draw never releasing - body warm, still not hot (20 seconds in)

Observations- body warm, not hot, thick tasty hit

The unit can take a lot of button depression. In this test everything stayed pretty cool (battery / switch cold). Only the wood body in the area of the coil got warm.

The coil is a resilient piece of equipment, especially in this form. LB doesn't really have weak spots, all connections are very solid, overkill actually, but it makes me feel better that way. The wood body can take a lot of heat as well. When I apply beeswax, I have to wear gloves to hold the wood as it gets super heated. The coil is unique in it's ability to generate a lot of even heat, vs a little bit of uneven heat, which would lead to hot spots and possible issues. I already described the deep red glow vs cherry red super hot that would ruin taste, make the unit stupid hot, and be hard to control.

LB is a tough little sonofabitch. Enjoy!!!

Interesting observation and my LB tip of the day.

@DirtyD mentioned screen distance dial in. I don't change screens often. I usually load light, wind up with nice dry abv, and just pick clean. Every time I put in a new screen, there is a break in bowl or two. The balance changes and I'm not completely tuned in, and it definitely changes.

There is more air flow, and hence your pull has to be adjusted. Also the matter of setting it the right distance needs to be addressed. Not that there is a wrong distance, just what you're used to, or what you expect. With a new screen, I think I wind up tamping a little harder, as the thin, even layer of herb is on its own as far as holding the heat. Not bad, not good, different. Just something to look out for if you seem to be throw off when changing screens / mouthpieces.

Funny you should ask...

Batch 4 and 5
VpOpyvM.jpg

Long story, but this is how it wound up.
4 all walnut
4 walnut / cherry
8 all cherry
(six of these are slotted as part of batch 5, but 10 will ship with batch 4)

After full assembly, I'll take lots of pics from all angles. The endgrain on this batch came out crazy nice. I spent lots of time at each grit of sandpaper - 220 / 320 / 400 / 600 over a two day period, and that was after hand planing to a glass like finish. All back plates are cut to sized and finished as well. Next, magnets for back plate, and then on to coil making. I'm leaving for Colorado a week from today, and my goal is to get 10 units out before I go.

That's the thing about Cherry, it darkens with age. And in this capacity, whether because of the handling, a little heat, or both, it accelerates the process. I'm really happy to have all that sanding and finishing done, my fingers / hands are shot. There is really no good way to clamp, because you need to change position so often. I need to build a *bench stop* or get a sticky mat to help reduce hand fatigue. Just wanna thank FC (staff and members) for keeping this thread drama free and all about LB. The only drama I wanna see on this thread is eager, happy customers, awaiting the arrival of the next batch of Lil' Buds.

I assume you're manually sanding with a wood block? I get that your hands are extremely fatigued, but don't you wear some type of protective, anti-fatigue gloves so that your fingers don't get abraded & helps with the fatigue?
