Box Mod Vape newb here, help?

Hello!

I am interested in an on-demand battery powered vape, that doesn't scream weed vaporizer and isn't too expensive ($200+) with the newest in vape technology.

Doing some quick reading the last couple days it looks like Box Mod style vapes are new and would be something that fits what I'm interested in. I've read the iHeat and Splinter are good ones, are there any others that are promising?

That brings me to my next question, Box Mods themselves. I know all about weed vapes, conduction vs convection and whatnot, but I know NOTHING about the new Box Mods as they were only used for tobacco until recently.

I have $75 to spend at 3fvape from a previous refund but I have NO idea where to even begin with looking at Box Mods.

I'm going to sell my CFX and another log vape that I don't use very much, so with that and the $75 I have to the website I'm hoping it will be pretty inexpensive. Thanks for all the help!! It is much appreciated.

Induction heater FAQ, prices, ordering

It's pretty doable to build one from scratch. But it's more difficult to have a portable power supply (or a power supply at all), and to have that button so it's only on when pressing down with a vapcap

There's also The Project. I don't know if Pipes or someone else is still making them. Can use one of those sidecar box mods to be more compact.

Or you could just get a tubo evic, though it's right around $200

Tubo evic looks very interesting.. Definitely a possibility! How much are the iHeat and Splinter? Hopefully I'm not breaking any fc rules by asking that

well, RBT (who make the Splinter) is in shutdown until April
i have no idea about the iheat, couldn't find anything
the project should be cheaper
do you want to vape flower or concentrate?

Should have put that in the original post, definitely flower. No worries on the shutdown, I was planning on waiting until April to purchase.

The more I look the more it seems like the tubo evic & the splinter are the 2 best choices. Anyone used both to have a comparison between them?

I'm happy to piggyback this thread because I'm also looking to learn about box mods... and hopefully shop my way into a happy, regulated, on demand microdosing rig without having to build the mod myself.

1) is the DIY section where these kind of posts belong? That section isn't as active as this one.

2) are there forum favorite DNA mods to pair with something like the Splinter? The Splinter isn't a box mod, it's just little oven you screw into a box mod.

3) is a dna/Splinter combo suitable for someone who doesn't want to tackle any building or software config or should one be prepared to learn about one or both of those things going in?

You can't go wrong with splinter or tubo. I have a splinter and love it. It's a hard hitter for sure. Tubo is similar idea...and everyone who has one loves it.

Splinter looks a little less odd to me, but Tubo is a bit more compact.

Yeah, but the Tubo is a complete portable vape built around a box mod while the Splinter is just the little oven on top and you still need a box mod to pair with it and power it, correct? So unless I'm misunderstanding it's apples to oranges to say "either one" since the Splinter doesn't have any buttons, screen, or power source.

I'd like to know the two or three forum favorite DNA box mods that are compatible with the Splinter.

yeah but you can just buy an evic mini for like $35 so if price is of concern the Splinter can turn out cheaper (or more expensive if you go hard and buy an expensive mod). End result is satisfaction with both vapes either way. If you don't like a disconnected powersource / heater, then Tubo clearly for you (for what it's worth, my Splinter is screwed in 100% of the time so I never even consider this, it's just a single vape from my perspective). If you like being able to switch from mod to mod Splinter is for you. Tubo also comes standard with hands free cruise mode (can get on Splinter but just extra steps) but that is a huge advantage with the Tubo and why many people favor it. I love my splinter and love other RBT vapes, but I guarantee if I tried a Tubo I would also completely love it and could replace any of my vapes with it. It just looks odd to me, I prefer the Splinter form factor and price.

I say either one because once you have a mod (again they're cheap), they are both on demand full convection vapes with the ability to do temp control and a few other neat tricks like cruise mode, both are hard hitting portables, and both satisfy a lot of people. It comes down to which form factor and price you prefer more. The Tubo has been around longer than the Splinter, but RBT the manufacturer has been around longer than Tubo. Tubo has a bigger following than the Splinter given that the Splinter is still new and mostly unreleased.

Besides the form factor, both are pretty similar vapes at what they accomplish. I really really don't think you can go wrong with either one performance wise.

When it comes to DNA box mods, check out the thread in ask FC about mods for 510 on demand vapes. Should answer a lot of questions.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. The evic mini v2 doesn't use a DNA chipset though, right? I'm tempted to just pm to ask what drives your Splinter so I can get in line with RBT and follow suit with the same box mod. Cruise sounds great but I'm a microdoser and a musician with a limited budget so I'd rather go with the lower cost option if the performance is just as high and the form factor is a bit tidier.

Thanks again for the clarification. I'll head to the 510 mod thread and bug folks there after reading up.

Thanks @tennisguru1! I meant to reply to your post a few days ago about that cheap Dual on eBay because I ordered one yesterday based entirely on your recommendation.. and the price, obviously.

What's this Diff atty you're talking about? I got the V3 and 2.7 concentrates attys from Divine Tribe. For dry herb I was gonna wait for a Splinter since I just got a Solo II that I'm really enjoying. Oh, maybe you just meant "different" attys and it got capitalized by accident.

I'm psyched to try the Splinter and get my mod game up. I also need to shop for concentrates to learn how to use the ceramic attys from DT.

Spring is in the air.

I do get confused, sorry 70+, enjoying medication too much?

Yes, I meant with Yocan Evolve + Cerum ect DT& 2.5/7 on concentrates Shatter ect &
Distillate cocktail combo for daily low temp TC sipping.
All these dounuts are LAYG , great for hanging out playing PS4.
I only do weed in my Volcano in the morning before tennis.
After that concentrates are the ONLY THIING THAT WORKS for ME.
After over 10 years just getting used to or tired of the balloons

So very cool how this EVIC turns into a single/double mod.
Like a transformer , lol, how high am I?

Totally cool. Let me know if you see the best price on the single battery cover. May as well have that option!

My dad was a tennis coach. Tennis weather is just about here too.

Vegas is really nice for tennis year round , played thru whole winter in shorts, lol.
I play at 6-7 am in summer, really nice if you leave by 10 lol.

Surprise, you get both for the $22 yippiee!
Look at the pic on Ebay, mine came with
the dual installed, the single 18650 piece
was in the bottom of heavy box.
I tried both, actually like the feel on the
single piece better than my mini.

I recommend the tubo for anyone especially a newbie. It's basically a box mod in a wood container and ready to use. It comes with the software already set although you can change it. It's also available now as opposed to the splinter and iheat. Having experienced the tubo made it much easier for me to make sense of the splinter when I got it since I'd never tried a box mod before. I love the splinter but use the tubic about as much as the splinter. And you can get a 1 battery or 2 battery tubo. I'm on a waiting list for the iheat but that's a pretty long wait.

@AJS The TUBOx has a big advantage if someone wants to use through water. Because it is in 2 pieces you do not have to try to balance a box-mod (with multiple 18650 cells) on your water tool.

Ah that's really cool. Didn't really know how the 2 piece setup works. Definitely a good plus!

Problem is all the mod cartridges are wait-listed for months. The earliest one shipping is the ModPod's Stempod in July. It's cheap & is more than capable. If you pair this with a cheap mod like an evic, you've only invested a little over $100 & if you don't like it you can sell it. If you like it, you can always get on the w/l for the Splinter, iHeat or the ModPod which is do out later this year., but most probably next year.

If you follow on instagram, you can see the live streams for the Splinter & Stempod.

If you don't want to wait & like an all wood mod type vape, then check out either:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/lil-bud-by-vapwood.25789/ Pretty sure you'll only have about a month's wait.

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/mistvape-touch.23205/ Don't know if there's a waitlist.
