Sinus problems when vaping. Anyone else get this?

I agree with Dreamerr about mold often causing problems. For sure you don't have to see it for it to cause problems. Maybe it was grown outdoor and there was a lot of rain near harvest and it got contaminated, maybe it was grown in an apartment with mold problems, or basement. Maybe it was not dried properly and got a chance to get mold growth..many reasons!

I have become sensitive to mold and it is a big problem to have good quality mj without any mold contamination. please people be careful with mold as strong exposure to it might change your life as there is no way escaping it so much better to avoid in the first place than become highly sensitive to it.

I have been taking the prescription nose spray and allergy pills and that is helping. I really think most of our stash has mold in it no matter how top shelf it is. If you are sensitive you will react. Of course this is just a guess. I never realized till this thread but if I put my face in a jar of mj my sinuses will clog. I am going to dry all my mj dirt dry hoping this will help. I was always taught not to let it get that dry but now I think that is wrong. I was always told well put a lemon or orange skin in the mason jar or a fresh stem. I think this is wrong now. If you know anything about this please chime in.

Before I learned about stuff I always kept my stuff bone dry cause it was easier to use. I also used to pre-screen as well. This was years ago of course. I get stuff put it through the spaghetti strainer and back in the flimsy zip lock and I never had an issue. I am older so who knows this is all guesses. I guess learning is bad sometimes.

Mold spores are very common, and quite prevalent everywhere. What I do to keep my materials at optimum humidity is use boveda humidity packs (they prevent large changes in humidity, but also keep materials more moist than usual), that said, if what you use was grown outdoors, pollen from other plants may have accumulated on the resinous glands.
There are still a number of factors to consider, have you tried using a microscope to examine your material? Do you know the techniques your source uses to control pests? Some pesticides are suspected of increasing allergen sensitivity.

Nope on all the questions cept for what I grew. I have not seen any signs of mold through a microscope but the only way I would know is if it had mold hairs and obvious signs of mold. I will do some research on pics and stuff to see if I can detect weather or not stuff has mold. Right now any herb I have is ground up so I doubt I can see anything. I went back to my old ways of pre-grinding a couple of months ago cause it is easier.

Just keep in mind, it may be something so small you would need a very high power scope to identify it. Like pollen sticking to glands.

I guess I will never know then. So what is one to do cause from what you say it is likely as I suspected it is either mold, mj pollen or some other pollen causing it? I guess just like with doc drugs it will be a choice daily on what is more important at the time...breathing or medicating for other stuff that is going on in a particular day. Like now for example I am jumping out of my skin and am at a lose of what to do.

Try minimizing the symptoms any way you can.

Let your herbs get drier, let them breathe and store in huge containers with plenty of space and air, avoid inhaling particles (like smelling the raw material), take it slower when you vape. Keep everything in your air path absolutely clean.
Run everything through water tools with a lot of diffusion.
At every shower clean your nose with pressurized saline solutions, you can also moisturize your canals with jojoba oil.
Air your room, use ionizers, they help keeping particles down
All theses smalls things make a huge difference. I got from clogged nose and sneezes to amazing respiration and best smell sense. The only way to keep problems away is an irreproachable hygiene. I clean as much as I can.

Great post man! Thanks, will definitly try some of your tips.

Do you use a neti pot to clean your nose in the shower?

I use a commercial pressurized saline solution, because it is sterile, as it is the most important point
Doing it in the shower facilitates crap removal with the hot water steam and stuff, you body gets hot and tends to expel more. A small drop of jojoba oil in the primary nasal cavity helps moisturizing it and avoid your nose to get too dry inside and helps for a better, softer cleaning. I do that every day at least once. That's just a part of the process, if you don't clean everything else and still have problems, you know where to look.

I was sneezing so much I even had to take shitty useless prescription drugs.. Now I'm fine, thanks to my compulsive cleaning habits

Great post. While I’ve been vaping since 2010, my allergy and sinus issues predate that by a country mile. I have even had sinus surgery. While not new to vaping, I am fairly new to the NewVape FlowerPot, and I’;ve develope the worst sinus issue I have had in years.. Is it related? I suspect enough that I have shelved my FlowerPot until I get through this infection, for which I am on my 4th Antibiotic and have a CT scan scheduled for tomorrow. While this maybe funny for some, for those afflicted and reliant on Cannabis for pain management this is a bug deal, it sucks!

I have a lot of vapes, the FlowerPot is unique I always use it with water. My water piece gets rinsed after every use, almost daily. I also clean it with kosher salt and alcohol. I also use Reverse Osmosis water. Small particles due get through the bowl and screen that came with the FlowerPot, so I just ordered a Gravity Ash Catcher to see if that would make a difference. In the interim I am using other vapes. I’ll post more as I discover or feret out new information. Respect! -YaMon

Just one thoughy bro- are you dead sure it is a bacterial infection? I have and get all sorts of infections everywhere. I am very lucky to get pinpoint, accurate diagnosis of every infectiin, what it is, where it is, and what sort of problems it is causing- with the help of an amazing diagnostic tool which the medical establishment has villified and demonised with lies and propaganda.

Anyway, the spot oh feedback and precise info I get is so invaluable, and matches 1000% with every single bit of my experiencs and symptoms, on every curcumstance. It is called "Vega testing", but it does requite some competence to use the tool best and most accutately I believe. I wish everybody could get this unbelievable precise info on what is really going on on their bodies, generally, but specifically in relation to pathogens.

They use it in Germany and Holland in hospitals, doctors, dentists etc. It is quite expensive I believe, they are not suppressing it and denying it there like the UK and US evil governments and medical establishment.
I wish you could get some answers like this though to get a lot of feedback on what is going on with the infection, where else it is, and any other info or situational aspect that is relevant will also be visible.

Anyway, I get both bacterial and viral infections in my sinuses all the time due to immine malfunction. To me the viruses are a much bigger, more ongoing problem, and far harder to treat, keep down, and clear.
So just keep in mind dude- unless you are dead sure you have a bacterial sinus infection, thos antibiotics will do no good. On the contrary, they wipe out all your healthy intestinal Flora which giganticly weakens and lowers your immune system, which further compounds the problem with sinus infections making them much stronger and your body much weaker against them as well as a myriad of other health problems and immune deficiencies which can begin to show up.

My own illness which I know now was a case of severe lyme disease but with many additional factors, began with two courses of antibiotics in 2005. I already had the borrelia bacteria (Lyme) in my system which was just waiting for an opportunity to manifest into full blown Lyme disease, but it was taking the antibiotics which was the final straw at weakening my immune system to the point where the Lyme could easily take over fully.
If I had been wiser at the time I would have avoided the prescription antibiotics and use natural antibiotics to treat my two chest infections, and at the same time fortified and strengthened my already compromised intestinal flora (as a result of having no comprehension of living right to support healthy gut microbes with probiotic foods and drinks).

So just be careful about taking antibiotics unnecessarily and weakening your own surely already compromised gut flora (unless of course you make a habit of consuming probiotic foods and drinks on a frequent basis as we all are designed to do).
I just don't want to see you end up even more sick and find it harder to recover I would strongly recommend you to look into making some sauerkraut or fermented vegetables as a probiotic source. My mum has just started doing this there is a special type of pot you can get from Korea which makes the process much better and effective called an "Onghi pot".

Have a look into it anyhow. I'm sorry if anything I say comes across as being patronising I only wish to help and am very passionate about this having experienced long-term illness myself which could so easily have been prevented or reduced had I known more when I was younger.

All the best see you about.

Alexis, swabs were negative.
Are you referring to a some mainstream mediacl testing for infection? Which came back negative? If so, please dont put too much credence on the apparent absence of infection. The standard testing is so innacurrate. Only a small perecntage of infections get accurately identified. Seriously I know this, and you wouldnt believe how many people have pathogenic microbes underlying, even dictating, their health conditions and illnesses which allopathic medicine has failed to spot.

This has been 100% my own experience as well. If I had relied on them for help with my illness from day one- answers, explanations, progress. I would be nowhere. They have failed to give a single answer to any of my symptoms and problems. Vega testing has consistenly provided 100% fitting and precise explanations of what is going on.
The doctors have offered nothing, yet have been trained to angrily and bluntly insist that "Vega testing has been shown to be innaccurate".

Not actually trying to argue that you do have an infection, or not. Just another side to it, from my own experience and what I have learned.
I wouls however very strongly recommend the Oil of Oregano to you, by Zane Hellas on ebay or Amazon.

Absolutely amazing remedy for all things respiratory, be it allergy, disease, and especially infection of any kind. A must have and you would never believe the relief it gives, sinuses, lungs, throat etc. Stomach upsets, digestive problems...

I could not live without oregano oil. With my allergies, if I didn't have oregano oil to take everyvday, I could not even think about vaporizing. It is vital for me to manage my severe respiratory symotoms every day, whether I vape or not. But I could never vape if I didnt have it.

I take some after every vape session. Also every meal, and numerous other times during the day night as part of my 24/7 symptom management routine.
Again all in good spirit buddy in an attempt to help, with an overall picture rather than a y real advice as such.

I bought my Supreme with a view to fucking combustion. I read up a load on here before I purchased my SV and had it shipped over from the states. Sadly it causes my sinuses to block and also gives me a sore throat and cough so I have never really got into vaping :( . I have experimented with temperatures, water etc. I have recently started to combust pure and find it much better (than spliffs), the pains in my chest have decreased dramatically. (I have been a "full time" smoker of tobacco spliffs for 15 years and suspect this has caused some problems)
So, in short, I am indeed fucking combustion.... of spliffs.

@kertong, sorry to hear of your health problems. My symptoms sound similar to yours but I experienced them immediately after vaping rather than 5 years after commencing vapourisation

PS apologies for the disjointed post, (pun intended XD)

I steam with essential oils every day; once in the morning and once before I head off to bed. My go-to is 2 drops of oregano oil with about 2 inches of water. I let the water boil, take the pot off the element and then put the oregano oil in. Put a towel over your head and breath deeply; it may sting a little so just adjust the distance between your face and the pot. I usually do this for about 1 minute or so. I have been steaming for the last 5 years and I no longer get sinus infections or respiratory issues. Good luck.

Same here. I have extremely severe allergies and long term multiple chronic infections due to a ravaged immune system. My lungs are constsntly filling up with thick, dense sticky mucus. I soend 7 to 8 hours every day aggressively clearing the mucus out. I use spices like cayenne and turneric, raw garlic, high doses of oregano oil, lots more...

But the essential oils are vital to it all. I do steam inhalations every morning, except it takes me 30 minutes and is the most dreadfully painful, horrendous, torturous thing to go through.

I start with peppermint essential oil. It is the No 1 King at clearing respiratory mucus, except it is painful aa fuck. I dont inhale oregano oil though, or thyme, as they are very irritating and burning to my lungs.
I use "Thieves" oil by Young Living- it is a super potent antimicrobial blend.
I then finish with rosemary or eucalyptus radiata. They are both gentle and painless. Each oil works differently and they complement each other.
The peppermint does the maximum it can, then the Thieves does its extra job on top and clears stuff the peppermint doesnt work on, the Thieves also works powerfully against si us infections.

Then the rosemary or eucalyptus bring extra relief and clear everything out. I simply could not survive without essential oils and steam.

Have either of you tried vaping oregano?
That is a very good and relevant question. I have not yet, partly because I dont use oregano essential oil for steam or direct inhalation as it caused burning and irritation which lingered and was not just the temporary "no pain no gain" pain the peppermint oil causes, which is completely dependant on the amount and density of mucus.

The peppermint oil NEVER does any harm. It never even causes irritation of any sort. It just hurts when it hits mucus which is forced up and expelled so quickly, and this hurts the most.

The lower my infections are, and the less mucus in my lungs/sinuses, the less pain. And the pain is absent after the majority is cleared. Breathing more peppermint is painless then, whereas the Oregano burns and stings and causes lasting irritation with my lungs not feeling good for a day.

So I havent rushed to vape oregano, but have bern considering it recently. It may not be so irritating as neat oil, and I have the best wild organic dried oregano flowers in the world- from Zane Hellas, the same stuff they make the oil from. So I may be giving it a go soon.

YaMon, def look into the oregano oil, it is also a pain killer. Cayenne pepper is amazing as well, also numbs pain. The oregano oil will only help your sinus problem, whatever is going on I'm sure you would be amazed at the instant relief and daily relief you would find.
And I would also give the Essential Oils a shot. The one I mentioned above my Young Living called Thieves oil is particularly antimicrobial all you need to do is drop 2 or 3 drops onto your palm of your hand, smear your palms together to spread the oil out, but keeping it in a suitably spread area , cup your hands over your mouth and nose and inhale deeply and you will be getting instant relief from sinus and respiratory symptoms, especially when it is related to infection.

I get the rest of my oils from here, you need to be careful about using any old cheap brand of essential oil because many of them are impure and have lots of chemicals and I'm not the best quality or efficacy.

I recommend this one above, and here is the Thieves, but I never buy from thess guys direct, I check Amazon and Ebay for best deals.

Good luck with your CT scan today, please keep us posted on any developments and let me know if any of this helps.

Guess this is a good location to post this...

I was a heavy combuster for about the last 3.5 years, about 4-7 grams per week of high grade indoors. I've always had some off and on seasonal type allergies, but recently over the past month I've been having soreness in my sinus areas, primarily right below my ear lobes and along my jawbone. I find this especially odd because over the past month or 2 I've been cutting back to probably the lowest level of consumption I've had in the last 3.5 years (approximately 1 gram a week). I haven't been combusting hardly at all for the last 2 to 3 months either just vaping with my Silver Surfer through a waterpipe to help moisten the vapor (dryness sucks). I've been feeling this soreness off and on even when I haven't vaped all day long.

Okay, long enough story, just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar. I take a small daily dose of Singulair for what I'm told are mild asthma symptoms and I use a prescription nasal spray as well.

Even though your post is 6 years old I just wanted to say I have the exact same problem. I cannot feel anything with my hand but it feels like their is a tightness or swelling behind my ear lobes in that crevice where some lymph nodes are located. I went to a doctor about it and he said it could be from clenching my jaw. It only started once I began vaping daily. I am planning on taking a break soon to see if quitting vaping will make it go away.

I signed up for this forum to tell you guys my crazy sinus experience late last night. Quick background: I have Histamine Intolerance, so my histamine is always an issue. Always have sinus pressure, constant post nasal drip, I don't get actual sinus infections anymore since I use a nasal irrigation system for 15 years, etc. H.I. makes me super sensitive to everything: perfumes, all scented things basically. I always wake up stuffed up and running nose blah blah.

So, yesterday evening I went for a walk by the ocean and it got cold. I was vaping some Sour D (I only do flower) and did a bit more than usual. I didn't necessarily feel more of the effect though. I got home and an hour later I did more of a CBD strain than usual as well (Rising Sun). Within ... I don't know.. half an hour or so I got crazy cold and the air from outside through the window was hitting my bare feet and it chilled me to the bone. It was unusual and exaggerated. I sneeze lately when I vape, that's when I know I will really feel the effects of what little flower I vape, and I do get cold sometimes, but this was different. I sat in my LazyBoy and fell asleep a little. It was around 10pm and I was up all night the night before with a 2 day migraine from my high histamine issues. Side note: One of my "tells" that I am about to get a migraine is the area above my right eye (below my eyebrow) swells up and droops a bit that morning).

My right eye was itching to high hell as it does lately when I vape, so I added eye drops like I always do. But I did itch it.

All of a sudden, I'm realizing my sinus is swelling up *insanely*, and my right eye is feeling really, really weird and swollen. I thought I was "getting a bad cold" from my walk, but it progressed to a ridiculous level within 60 seconds. I went to the kitchen and blew my nose like mad. Thick, clear gunk was coming out endlessly. Some of it was white mucus as well. My sinus was at maximum swelling, it was insane. I was terrified my throat would close up, but it only got thick, or maybe it felt like it was because it is attached to the sinus in a way. A thicker glop dripped down my throat (sorry for being graphic) and I spit it out into the trash but didn't see it.

I put a warm rice bag all over my whole sinus and head, and then my eye. it relieved the swelling of my sinus, but my eye felt really weird.

I went to the bathroom to look at my eye after I had blown my sinus out and my right eyelid, the actual eyelid, was completely swollen!! Not swollen shut, but close. Terrifying. I called Kaiser Permanente after hours advise nurse and disclosed everything (I had to explain what CBD was). Because I wasn't woozy standing up and because I had no chest pain, she deemed me safe for the next 24 hours unless something changed for the worse. What's weird was, my eye wasn't red, just totally swelled up. I spit out another dripping glop and spit it out in the sink.. it was clear with a tinge of yellow. (Sorry so long winded and detailed).. I live in So CA and the allergies here have just about everyone going insane this past year.

The nurse advised me to put a cold wet cloth on it instead of the warm. I had taken Benadryl by now, more than my usual amount. I took a bit more 2 more times (the total amount didn't exceed a normal dose). Within maybe half an hour, my eye started getting slightly better.. at least it wasn't getting worse!
Within about 2 hours it was still swollen, but almost back to normal.

So, this morning?? My sinus is almost clear! !? My eye is still a tiny bit swollen. Was this a huge sinus purge/expectorant reaction? I so wish I knew. Of course I am now terrified to do ANY flower again, even though it really helps my anxiety, ADD and chronic pain from H.I. which is a form of Fibromyalgia (people with Fibro have high histamine in their muscle tissue).

I want to mention that H.I. is usually accompanied with eczema. When I started microdosing about a year ago (when I needed to try to stop my daily stress migraines, which microdosing flower amazingly did for me) about 20 X I got a HUGE rash across my inner thigh. Only one though, so weird. Also right side of my body as this was my right eye. I only got this when I vaped a bit more than my tiny usual. Last November I had a huge eczema breakout that I never had before. Because vaping flower DOES clear my skin overall, I'm still not convinced this wasn't some sort of detox. When I went to the emergency room my doctor insisted my eczema had nothing to do with the flower. My timeline makes me disagree.

For anybody who made it this far, thanks, and I guess I'm putting this put there to add to the discussion to try to figure stuff out.

@2GnomeMe well that’s one hell of a first post! Welcome to FC!

I started using Alkalol with a sinus rinse of saline as recommended by another member and my sinus problems seem to be in check. It is peak tree pollen season here now which is a really bad time of year for me, so far I am maintaining with the Alkalol/Saline rinse and the occasional Pseudoephedrine. Respect! -YaMon
